Initially I liked this caterer a lot...website is great and they were good at communicating with me as we made the arrangements. On the day though I was left feeling like they were very unprofessional. The caterer went to the wrong postcode and so arrived 45 minutes later than they’d planned. These things happen sometimes in life but at no time was I telephoned to explain the problem and to reassure me that they were coming. It was left to me to try to find out what was going on. As it was the caterer who was bringing the party decorations and table coverings I was unable to fully set up the hall until she arrived. This meant that party guests were arriving and the hall was still being set up. This was embarrassing for me as none of the guests were friends...it was my first time meeting a large number of them. Then I discovered that she hadn’t brought enough tablecloths to cover all the tables. So half the guests had to eat off tables with no tablecloths. This was INEXCUSABLE as far as I’m concerned. Plus, I had paid extra for a couple of “display” items but there was nothing “display” about them. She just plonked everything down on a table I had had plans for how I wanted everything to be but because all the guests were now in the venue because she had arrived so late, it was completely impossible to engage in a conversation with her about it because we were all rushing around trying to get everything else ready. And then I discovered that she’d arrived without the drinks I had paid for! She offered to go down to Tesco and buy some, which she did and also brought back some flowers as an apology...but it didn’t change the fact that a professional caterer had forgotten to bring an important element of the catering! And quite frankly if I’d wanted Tesco wine I wouldn’t have decided to pay the high price I paid for this caterer. I had received quotes from other caterers that were significantly lower than this caterer but I decided to go with them because I thought I was going to get a higher quality of service. Sussex Chef’s team were perfect for our wedding day in June. They did an amazing job! The food was delicious, cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. The lobster was particularly good! The quantity was also very generous so none of our guests went hungry. We have had many of our guests tell us how much they enjoyed the BBQ food, and the fish and chips were a huge hit. Thank you so much for catering our wedding at The Sussex Barn on the 1st of August 2015. We can not fault you at all, the communication throughout the booking and during the run up was 100%. We felt very confident that you had listen to what we wanted and gave us some great ideas for our food. The presentation of our wedding buffet was beautiful, rustic and just what we wanted. The food was delicious and lots of our guests went up for seconds and thirds! The evening food was a bit hit, everyone loved the pulled pork rolls and the veggies loved their pittas.We had had a lot of comments on our wedding food and we will be recommending you to everyone! The attention you all paid to detail was second to none and the presentation of food, drinks, and table-styling was fabulous. You can tell that you and your whole team take great pride in your work. Thanks to Ben (and his team) for providing a fantastic hot buffet for a meeting I conducted in Brighton this week. The quality and presentation was faultless and the taste was magnificent! ! He beavered away silently in the background while the main speaker was conducting a Q&A session so that we could have the hot dessert when the meeting concluded. We had Sussex Chef for two linked events in one day for my 70th birthday: a buffet lunch at midday and a waiter/waitress provided canape service in the evening. The food was all specially prepared on site and was delicious, not only in our view, but based on comments from the guests at the two events. Sussex Chef also took care of all the drink provision at both events. It was a pleasure dealing with Ben and Clare from the pre-event planning through to the actual day. Because of the "effortless" skills of Ben, Clare and their talented and can do staff, my wife and I were able to relax and enjoy both events, totally confident that everything was in such safe and welcoming hands.
