Gets better every time we visit. You can't beat the quality or the price. I'd kill for the wayu and uni combo again. It's truly best of both worlds.

I have now been here twice. Love this place. They have mastered the art of making every bite count and every bite better than the last. The ambiance reminds me of the tiny bars in Tokyo-funky and intimate. Will be back soon More...

Sushi is fresh and delicious, however fish size varies depending on which chef is making yours. It's fun vibe and very affordable, but towards the end of your timeslot, you can feel next round customers breathing down on your neck.

So good that I've been here twice! The omakase is a great value and the vibe of the restaurant is cool, classy, and sexy. Highly recommend for those looking for an alternative to NYC's more well known Sushi restaurants.

So I finally got to eat here after postponing for a while and it was definitely worth the wait! The sushi was really fresh and the sushi chefs were really friendly and kept us entertained. Shoutout to Kevin the bartender for consistently checking up on us and making sure we had everything we need!! He recommended us to try the Big Mac and I wish I had more space to order more because it was so delicious!! The service was amazing and will definitely  come back again soon :) Forgot to take a picture of the Big Mac cause I was too eager to eat hahaha More...

This review is long overdue as I came here months ago (maybe a year?) with friends. I had already had omakase at Sushi on Jones, and this is very similar--I think they were started by the same people--but closer to Port Authority, with a cooler (graffiti, naughty japanese wall art, neon signs) ambience, and I would argue better friendlier service. 12 pieces of sushi for ~$50 may seem like a lot, but it's probably the cheapest omakase you can get anywhere. There are garnishes and gimmicks, and it may not be a super authentic experience, but the fish is fresh and delicious, and it's always fun to watch the chefs work in front of you. I think this place and Sushi on Jones are both great intro acts for the omakase-naive out there that don't break the bank too much. Also, I had the shiso cocktail and still think about it from time to time. I think it's one of the best mixed drinks I've ever had. More...

I love Sushi by Bou!!! I've been here twice and both experiences have been great. I absolutely love omakase style sushi and it's so nice that at Bou they have affordable pricing to make it accessible for more than just people who can spend $150+ on a meal. Each sushi piece is always great. I don't think they have the one I loved the first time I went, the three amigos. I don't even remember what was on it besides quail egg but I remember being absolutely blown away - please bring it back!!!The toro is always perfect, and I love the steak they put the flame to in front of you. Be prepared for a fairly quick in and out situation (hence the lower pricing) but it never feels rushed. More...

What an amazing hidden gem. A tiny room with a speakeasy feel. Beautiful decor and really cool art on the way to get in (it feels like a maze). The sushi was incredible! We loved the tasting menu. Drinks were decent too. Would love to be back. Very tiny (only about 12 or so seats) so make a reservation - although we walked in and got lucky. More...

This sushi place was really good. It's a really small place but very hip. The people working there were really friendly and nice. Being from LA we knew our sushi's. The omakase meal was phenomenal. We got an extra hand roll that the chef made up. Toro seared with scallops. It was so good. It was one of the best meals in the big apple. Highly recommend!  Make sure you make a reservation. They are very organized with their 30 minute time slots! More...

The food was absolutely delicious! I had a 30min omakase course (which went over 30mins) and a big mac, and left the restaurant still hungry. I love sushi. Every piece was my favorite piece. The Botan (Sweet Shrimp) definitely stood out, and the Wagyu Uni handroll; so generous of them to include Wagyu Uni in a $50 omakase course. The Big Mac was to die for. You need to try that at least once! $50 for 11 pieces of sushi and a handroll? That's a bargain! The service here was attentive, just a little too chattery. If you like having the staffs engage with you while you're eating and taking pictures, Sushi by Bou is the place for you. If you just want to do your own thang and enjoy a good meal at peace, without feeling like people are looking over your shoulder the whole time, this may not be your spot. More...

I'm a HUGE fan of Omakase so during my trip to NYC I yelped for one of the best and found Sushi by Bou! This bougie restaurant was one of the highlights of my NYC trip. *You NEED a reservation* which you can easily do on yelp. I say this because the restaurant is small, I mean 9 seats small, and it's timed (30 min) which means you have to get there ON TIME or you'll forfeit your reservation. *Location - I was so lost lol. The restaurant is actually in a basement and located underground. It's the door with the small gate and lots of graffiti. I walked back and forth because google maps was telling me I was at the right spot but there was no sign! I ended up walking down to the basement and the workers were laughing at me - apparently they have a camera and were watching me go back and forth lol. IMAX - Such an awesome dude! He's the host, bartender, friend, manager, all of the above - and truly made my experience here that much more. I came alone and he sat me down next to this couple who were also watching Hamilton after dinner. We ended up bonding, drinking, laughing so hard. IMAX, thanks for introducing me to new friends! He made us delicious (and strong drinks) and also poured us complimentary sake shots! *FOOD - TOOOO DIE FOR. Everything I had was AMAZING. 12 fresh, high quality sushi pieces for $50 is a steal. In LA, that's easily $100! There was not one thing I didn't enjoy. This place isn't just about the food (though it was delicious) but the incredible, stellar experience. More...

I heard of this place because of my cousin. He's been following their instagram page for a while. I'm glad we stopped by and tried this place! The best bang for your buck. This place charges about $54 dollar for an omakase. You get about 12 pieces. What makes this spot a different (versus other omakase places (comparing this to California) is that you only have 30minutes and for the price of 54 dollars. You're getting uni, wagyu, and toro! The sushi was very high quality.(melts in your mouth) Also, on top of that they have great customer service. Shout out to the Manager Kevin, for making us feel very welcomed and made sure we had an awesome time. I will definetly stop by whenever I visit NYC. I highly recommend stopping by this place! Another note, you need to make a reservation before coming! (They only have about 9 seats) More...

My beloved wife and I came here in between shows for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.  I am writing this months later as I still look back on the experience fondly.  It was my first omakase and losing my culinary virginity in such a wonderful way was magical.  Each piece was memorable for it's simplicity and purity.  I have been doing extensive research on all things omakase based on this experience.  Was well worth the price we paid and I would undoubtedly return.  Well done! Great traditional sushi with a modern twist. Excellent quality even or especially their Santa Barbara and Hokkaido uni, which are always a test of freshness and quality.Cool, hip space that is really just a counter with 9 seats hence the time limits. Sake and beer available, and the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable.Highly recommend texting ahead for the Bougie (60 minute, 17 course) meal if you're less than 5 diners (5+ automatically specify Bougie) instead of the standard 30 minute menu. Will be back soon! It took me longer to find this place than it did to eat! Somehow, I missed the big pink neon sign and went this roundabout way through the backdoor of some Chinese restaurant next door. My gripe with omakase has always been how I'm still hungry afterwards, and the hunger only multiplies as I have to wait 10 minutes between each serving of fish. This was not the case at Sushi by Bou because of the 30 minute seat time. The chef kept them comin', and I sampled toro, uni, ebi, and wagyu. Everything tasted delicious, and I felt like I'd hit on all the major ingredients that you would typically see at omakase for a much lower price. I wasn't full afterwards, but I easily filled the gap by getting some ice cream. More...

I've gone to this place twice and it's never disappointed. The quality of sushi is on point and the service is great! I came around last year and then again in September 2019 (this time served by a chef who just started 4 months ago - I didn't catch his name but if you read this you are awesome!!)You sit down for 30 min for 12 pieces of sushi for their regular omakase, or you can upgrade to a 60 min experience for 17 pieces. I've personally only ever done the 12 piece omakase but I'm tempted to do the 17 pieces in the future Definitely recommend you try Sushi by Bou out! More...

I had been following them on IG for some time and definitely made it a goal of mine to get there whenever i made it to NY. Let's just say it didn't disappoint. The sushi was amazing and the service was equal! And to top off the experience you have the best person, Imax (yes, like the theater), to help run the show and make you the perfect drink. This place is probably the best sushi place I have ever been to in my entire life. The price is pretty affordable considering you are getting very high quality pieces of fish.  My trip to NYC was only 4 days long and I had to come here twice because it is THAT GOOD!Service: If you go to the Time Square location and have the honor of meeting Mr. El Chapo, you'll probably have a great experience.  He was the one that was preparing our omakase meal. Because this is a very intimate dinner with just 8 seats, he is very focused on providing great customer service. Since they serve 8 people at a time, they do time your meal 30 minutes.Food: Not going to lie, I loved EVERYTHING they gave us to eat. Although it's a set menu of 12 pieces of sushi, you'll have the choice to get more pieces closer to the end of your meal.  During the service however they ran out of uni but they more than made it up to us by giving us a lot of other sushi pieces and hand rolls.Drinks:  I only got the Yuzu lemonade and it was the most delicious lemonade I ever drank. I'm sure if you wanted you can add a shot of sake to it but I got it as a mock tail More...

Honestly, it's hard to find really good sushi in NYC with the right price point. Yes, you can call me a bit of a sushi snob and I'm sure there are quite a few people out there willing to argue with me on this point. However, I do my best to take an objective approach when rating sushi restaurants in NYC. I consider the expected experience, ambience, service, cleanliness, speed (doesn't mean I expect my sushi to be prepared quickly), presentation, drink options, and of course taste when giving my reviews - publicly or privately. While I don't recall what our bill came out to, I do remember that the quality of our Omakase experience fit the bill. As an establishment that touts bringing high end Omakase in a speakeasy environment within a timed period (30 minute and 60 minute options) - they delivered. And their cocktail options were also well paired with the sushi menu. Don't expect a quiet and secluded dining experience. It's loud with club music and you're seated side-by-side with other guests and honestly, I didn't mind it! If you're looking for a more affordable, fun, and quick Omakase experience in NYC because you've tried all the different sushi places, then I think it's worth giving Sushi by Bou at Flatiron a try. My first Omakase experience and it couldn't have gone better! I arrived 5 minutes before my reservation time, was immediately greeted by name and directed to the waiting area and bar, where I had an excellent Old Fashioned made by Imax the entertaining bartender. This is a small space, but the staff makes it very welcoming and relaxed. After a few minutes the previous seatings cleared out and I started eating. The quality of sushi is the best I've had, the selection was varied, and there was a clear progression in taste from mild to adventurous. My favorite was the Chutoro, and when offered the opportunity to request more food at the end of the tasting I quickly requested it. There is a homey atmosphere to Sushi by Bou Times Sq., and pairing that with affordable prices and excellent quality food, I happily gave this 5 stars. More...

Came here for my first omakase and it was the best experience. They give you 12 pieces for $50 which is an amazing price and the quality is A1. You get 30 minutes for the experience and it's definitely worth it. Just make sure to make reservations ahead of time because they don't take walk ins! I also want to point out that their customer service is amazinggg. They're SO nice and make conversation with you as you're eating and are part of the experience as well. The host, Kevin, was super personable and fun to talk to as well! He made everyone feel super welcome and the sushi chef was also funny and nice. It's a small, hip, intimate restaurant so it felt really cozy and welcoming. I loved the experience from the people to the food. The food was SOO good and unlike any sushi I've had before. Sushi by Bou should be the gold standard for all omakase experiences. They make marvelous bite sized goodness that can rival your most expensive sushi joints. This is a personal journey that you and the chef embark together. Make sure you get reservations because seating is limited. Our favorite dish of the night was their toro hand roll. I honestly don't even know where to begin but let me just say, if you haven't already tried Sushi by Bou it's time for you to make that reservation ASAP! This was hands down my most memorable and best omakase experience up to date. From the service to the ambience to the food, everything was a perfect 10/10 for me. Emulating something similar to a speakeasy, Sushi by Bou Times Square is located underground down a flight of stairs. Upon reaching the door, you'll be immediately greeted by one of their staff members and invited in for some drinks while waiting for the sushi chefs to prepare your meal. It's 12 piece omakase for ~$60/person that consists of nothing but high quality seafood. Each piece had its own unique flavor that was amplified by the chef's personal touch. The most memorable pieces for me had to be the wagyu + uni, scallop and o-toro however, each piece was truly amazing. I also can't forget to mention how sweet and friendly the staff was. All of the workers there were more than happy to strike up a conversation and made sure to check in with you throughout the meal to ensure you were having a good time. I can't rave about this place enough! Please, please do yourself a favor and stop by Sushi by Bou if you haven't already! More...

WOW!!Location: either you will stumble upon this location by luck or you know someone who's been there and they gave you directions. There are no bells and whistle drawing you to the restaurant but once you get in you won't want to leaveSpace: it is truly a small space with maybe 10 stools in front of a sushi bar. It is a lovely spot if you want an intimate sushi bar experience. Restrooms are located in the back There is a bar that serves a variety of Saki, vodka and other exotic drinks. Service: WOW. The bartender was the gift that kept on giving, he was so upbeat, full of life and everything I wanted in a bartender- he even offered everyone saki shots. He made the night so memorable. The chefs who served each piece of fish were also very attentive, happy and created a fun atmosphere. They took the time to pose for photos whenever they brought out the blow torch Food: FRESH. Delicious and presented well. I definitely recommend the albacore tuna- everything was great but this piece took me back to living in the islands and having fresh tuna. They menu is set- you get served about 8 different pieces of fish then you can order a la carte Recommendations: DEFINITELY get a reservation if you can, they accept walk ins but since the space is small you might not get in same night. - Quick, casual, affordable spot for omakase- 30min omakase for $50 (12 pieces) or 1hr for $100 (17 pieces)- Not your traditional omakase experience- Graffiti along the staircase on the way up- Make a reservation- They first seat you on the couches in the 'waiting area' so you can decide if you want to try any cocktails on the menu- The entire room feels like a speakeasy- As soon as you sit down at the bar, there are little notes on the table that remind you the experience is timed- My favourites were the uni, o-toro (torched), and wagyuni- Even though we only had our seats for 30 minutes, we never felt rushed. Each piece came out with enough time in between and we ended up chatting to the chefs for most of the meal. - The manager got bored and came to chat with the chefs a couple of times too.- We had such a great time with the chefs that they gave us an extra piece on the house. It was such a fun experience!- At the end of our meal, we were asked if we wanted to order anything else a la carte but we were already full. - Not good for large groups.- Definitely a fun experience to have if you're just visiting or if you've never experienced an omakase- Might give their other locations a try! It's worth mentioning they also offer a 18 piece Omakase. I walked in with no reservation and they were very accommodating--only had to wait 20 minutes till the next Omakase offering cycle. This is a great casual omakase place for a great price. The restaurant itself has speakeasy vibes since you have to enter through a basement and go up a fair number of stairs until you find the inconspicuous entrance. Three of us came on a weekday evening and made a reservation online the same day as a last minute treat after a long stressful day. One of my friends was late however the host graciously still accommodated our reservation. The set menu is posted on the wall and includes 12 pieces for 50$. This is pretty much a steal because no where else in Manhattan will you find such a quality omakase experience for such an affordable price. The order of the fish was yellowtail, lean tuna, medium fatty tuna, spotted prawn, salmon roe, albacore, scallop, sea urchin, fatty tuna, salmon, surf and turf, and bbq eel. The stand outs for me were the spotted prawn, fatty tuna, and the surf and turf. The spotted prawn was raw and so so creamy. I have never had prawn that tasted that way! The fatty tuna was delicious and had a very rich flavor. The surf and turf featured wagyu and uni which was a delicious combination. The wagyu is torched in front of you so it makes for a great instagram picture. As with most omakase, we were not full at the end of the meal so we decided to get a hand roll (which ended up being 12$). I would stay away from ordering extras unless you truly love whatever fish you are getting. 12$ is a bit steep for something so small.Toward the end of the meal we were getting rushed by the host so it seems they were fairly strict with the 30 minute time limit. This is very much a get in get out type of dinner. Overall, I would still recommend you try sushi by bou out since it is definitely tasty and reasonably priced. More...

(May 2019), Courtesy of Yelp's mother day's giveaway, I was able to bring my parents to this wonderful experience of omakase. The way to get there was very mysterious as it is hidden upstairs of a Chinese (Jue Lan) restaurant. The place is small and reservation is recommended. After we are seated, our sushi chef Cameron served us the fresh sushi with the perfect garnish of sauce. I also entered the social media challenge and won a hand roll and sake. Overall it was a delightful evening with good food and company. More...

We loved the experience. The sushi is very good and 30 minutes is plenty of time. We never felt rushed. I'm not giving them five stars because the venue. We were going into the restaurant and as soon as we opened the door there was a pile of empty cardboard boxes just laying there. The lay out it's also confusing and not very attractive. The best quality and quantity of sushi you can get for the price! I don't think I've heard or been to anywhere that serves better sushi for $60/person. I've always come here for lunch as it's really fast yet still satisfying. Make sure you come here on time, because their phone number doesn't work!  Once I was late for less than 10 minutes, (on their policy says 10 minutes) I tried to call and text them, somehow it's a different location that received the message, the time square location wasn't notified. When I got to the time square location, they wouldn't seat me and said they may or may not be able to squeeze me in depending on if there's any no show. Luckily they were able to seat us, but another couple, who were late, had to wait. The place's too good for me to give a review any less than 5 star, even with that hiccup. I can't wait to come here again the next time when I go back to NYC! More...

One of the most unique and cost effective Omakase experiences in NYC.  For those who work near the restaurant, you surely know there is serious dearth of decent lunch spots.  You can get a million fast food options, and one or two expensive nice sit down ones, but there are few inbetweens and even fewer that are great! Sushi by Bou is exactly what you need if you've had these thoughts.  It is an excellent lunch option as they do the seatings in 30 minute slots. I'm happy they are no longer just taking text reservations, that was a bit cumbersome. Now you can make a reservation on open table.  If you are very hungry/want to stay longer, just make two back to back reservations!  Their Japanese cocktails are excellent to get your palate warmed up, but personally I prefer beer with the sushi.  Each piece is perfectly crafted, and really follows a traditional style with some flair.   I've easily been 10x and the food has been 100% each time.  The cost is right and the atmosphere is amazing. If you haven't been, it's time to make a reservation. More...

Best sushi I've ever eaten. Hands down. We came in late after we got in from our flight, and Arielle greeted us right away and made us feel extremely welcome. Richard then hooked us up with some amazing old fashioneds and we were quickly seated for our 9:30 Omakase reservation. Sergio was the sushi chef and prepared everything so amazingly. I've never had fish that tasted so fresh in my life. We couldn't decide on our favorite - the salmon, eel, shrimp, toro were all out of this world. And then since we posted on Instagram, they hooked us up with free sake shots and a hand roll. We then kept ordering more hand rolls because we couldn't have enough. We closed it down with Arielle, Richard, and Sergio and they all made us feel at home. Thank you guys so much!!Please bring this concept to Detroit. We are in desperate need of good sushi! More...

This place is absolutely incredible, from the nice funko-pop scenery and the seats (there are only 8 so make sure to reserve) this place really makes you feel at home! The chefs are absolutely amazing and fine tune every piece for you to perfection! They even cooked the pieces of fish for my brother because he doesn't like raw fish and he loved it! The prices are great, because for the 30 minute omakase you only pay $50 and for the food quality it feels as if it is $600. The host, Imax, was a spectacular person, always checking on us and providing the fun and joy to really make this experience worth it! One recommendation is to get either the big mac, or the wagyu-uni hand-roll, they are the best I have ever eaten! There is only one thing you have to do, you have to eat the big mac in ONE BITE so be careful ;) Over all, this has been the best experience for my family and I, and we are most definitely coming back everytime we visit nyc! The best Omakase in New York. Period. The atmosphere, service, vibe, and food is A++. I've lived in Japan for 3 years and Sushi By Bou is next level. Each piece gets better and better. Our bartender imax recommended the Sake flight where we got 3 glasses of sake that go from a sweet and floral to a crisp and dry which compliments the Sushi from start to finish. I heard amazing things about Sushi by Bou and brought a friend when she was visiting. I loved the space-small, intimate and warm.  I enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching the sushi chefs work their magic. The drinks were phenomenal and beautiful. And the service was wonderful. The sushi was very good. Very simple sushi pieces but the fresh fish plus the pairings with sauces...out of this world. However, there were a few pieces I was not a fan of - the shrimp and surf and turf.  Those two pieces did ruin it for me a bit.  That being said - the price is VERY reasonable, the sushi amazing and the experience is lovely.  I would recommend checking it out. Sushi by Bou is a modern, affordable take on the traditional omakase experience. There are a few locations around town, but getting a table can still be difficult - plan ahead and make a reservation! You'll book an exact 30 minute slot (they may also have a 60 minute option) so make sure to arrive on time or early. The Flatiron location is a speakeasy located inside of the Jue Lan club. There's cool graffiti art decorating the spot and a small sushi bar upstairs with a mix of velvet, rich interiors and neon art and electric signs. Very cool feel. If you want you can wander off and explore the rest of the club if you have time. Before or accompanying your meal, the bar is available to serve you a selection of interesting cocktails. They use different Japanese liquors/flavors and I especially enjoyed the yuzu honey bee and the shiso southsider. You can also choose from a selection of sakes, which is always a good choice with sushi. The service was also excellent, our bartender gave us great recommendations and was attentive when our drinks ran low. Now, on to Omakase. The set menu includes 12 pieces that are served over the 30 minutes for the amazing price of $50! Despite the time limit, I actually felt like the pieces were served at a good pace that didn't feel rushed. Our sushi chef was also friendly and engaging. Each piece was expertly done, with just the right amount of wasabi/soy sauce etc. Some of the highlights included the fatty tuna (you get two!), the wagyuni, and the BBQ eel. When you've finished with the set menu, you can also choose to order a few pieces a la carte. I've heard that the Big Mac is an extra worth trying, but we were satisfied with our meal. Overall, I thought this was a very fun spin on the traditional Omakase, making it accessible to the greater population of young new yorkers. This is a fun place for a date or with a friend, not ideal for bigger groups due to the space limitation. Now that I've tried this location I can't wait to go check out the others! More...

This was an alright lunch omakase. From both a performance and food perspective, I think my experience was basically mediocre. I'm surprised that this spot has such stellar reviews - not to say that it deserves less than 4 stars - but I think it's partly because the omakase is fairly cheap. After reading about this spot online, I was prepared to pay about $100, but I was completely misinformed, with the final price being about $50 per person before tip (super reasonable). I'm guessing the dinner omakase is probably more expensive. The spot is a little bit hard to find, in sort of the basement of a building. It's a cute little venue and definitely a sick date spot. The host is friendly. The fish itself didn't taste really fresh in my opinion, and I thought that the wasabi was a little bit overpowering at times. The rice was pretty good. I think I would probably change the order of the dishes to make the uni and wagyu piece last. That was definitely my favorite, though ending with the unagi wasn't a bad choice either considering how strong the flavor was. The uni here was pretty good in general.I felt like the meal was super rushed. I hadn't even gotten to eating some pieces before the next one was coming out. The omakase chefs didn't really interact at all, which is something that I'm just not used to. There wasn't really any performance aspect here and it was hard to see what the chefs were doing. I think they're on a pretty tight schedule or something. The 12 piece meal lasted about thirty minutes - a meal that would ordinarily take an hour or so.Overall I had a good experience, but given that there are so many solid omakase spots, I probably don't see myself coming back. I mean what more could you ask for?  This is such a unique experience. You're not coming to Sushi by Bou for a meal, it truly is an immersive experience.  Came here for date night- had an 8:45pm res, entered at 8:40pm and was asked to wait by the bar while the previous group was finishing up- there are 8 seats total so prepare yourself for an intimate experience! We ordered drinks at the bar (Bou-jito and Old Fashioned) and got seated within a few minutes of getting our drinks. Our drinks were delicious and expertly made. The fresh basil in the Bou-jito (chili infused gin, lime juice, ginger syrup, fresh basil) was so damn.... well, fresh! Highly recommend this delicious cocktail. As for the food...... amazing! The wagyu + uni, scallop and Uni were my favorite bites of the night. Honorable mention goes to the medium fatty tuna. Imax was our bartender and all around source of entertainment for the evening. He came to check on us every so often without it being overbearing. He also made us laugh A LOT.  We additionally ordered another wagyu + uni and scallop hand roll. The omakase here is incredible. I was particularly impressed with the ikura, which was marinated in some sake, mirin soy base. Each piece of omakase has a different flavor profile thanks to the garnishes/basted sauces. The chef will prepare and present each piece with an explanation of the type of garnishes/basted sauces. It was a great experience. I also really enjoyed the botan (shrimp). All the pieces were equally delectable and it was hard to choose a favorite. I would rate them all 9-10 out of a scale of 10. Sushi by Bou fills the need for affordable, casual omakase. It's not traditional Japanese omakase. Some may even call it a bit white-washed, and I really debated whether to come try it for that reason, but I ended up giving it a shot.Reservations were easy to make via Yelp. They texted me a few hours before to confirm. The restaurant was a bit hard to find. "Hidden" restaurants are kind of overrated now. The check in process was quick and easy. Since I was a few minutes early, I was seated on a couch with a drinks menu to peruse beforehand. There's only bar seating which is a plus since seeing the chef making everything is part of the whole experience. In terms of the omakase itself, I was expecting every single bite to wow me, but to be honest, the only pieces that really stood out were the o-toro and wagyuni. At the end, I ordered the o-toro a la carte because I'm a fan of smokey flavors. At $8, the price was steep for this tier of omakase. The o-toro ended up falling apart on my plate and the chef could tell I was disappointed so he surprised me and made me an extra torched o-toro sans rice. Thumbs up for that, otherwise, this would have been just a 3-star experience. There's definitely a difference in quality of ingredients and creativity between Sushi by Bou and a $$$$ Michelin sushi restaurant, but it hits the spot if you're looking for something casual and relatively affordable. This is probably one of the most unique sushi meal  experiences I've ever had. In the past when dining at other sushi restaurants I've never had done an omasake meal where you leave your dining experience in the chef's hands. This location of Sushi by Bou has made me to consider doing this again. You start off by entering into the building and walking up the stairs to the restaurant. The walls of the stairway are beautifully decorated with sushi inspired graffiti art. The decoration for the restaurant did stand out a lot where you get a classy yet casual feel. The restaurant itself felt like you were walking into a fancy speakeasy. The small space fits about ten people around the sushi bar. There is a corner where the drinks are made and a small couch and bench to wait to be seated. The omasake meal is perfectly timed. The chef shows you a timer to see that the experience is completed within thirty minutes. I liked that each piece was packed with flavor, yet was finessed with simplicity. My top picks from the omasake were the uni, o-toro and wagyuni. At the end of the omasake you are given the option to purchase more pieces from the omasake menu, but don't forget to check out the menu on the right side of the sushi bar for more options. We got the Big Mac as an added piece which has uni, toro, scallop and wagyu. The chef instructed to eat this particular piece in one bite. It was one of the most unique bites. At the end of the meal you are given some of their house sake which was ridiculously smooth and I'm usually not a big fan of sake. If sake is up your alley, they do have a sake flight that pairs with the omasake meal. They also have a great option of cocktails to choose from. I had the yuzu honey bee which was very refreshing and had a nice clean finish with the citrus note.Service was really great here and the guys really made an effort to make sure we had the best experience. I'm looking forward to returning again. More...

This place is pretty neat. I went here alone for the last seating on a Saturday night when I couldn't get into my neighborhood go-to, Sushi Seki on 23rd. When I arrived there was some confusion as I think they had overbooked somehow, but they were nice about it and gave me some complementary sake- and I eventually did get seated. For the price tag, the quality of the food is great, and it ends up being a large meal if you're a smaller person like me. But I think the real selling point of this place is the atmosphere. The space is charming and the chefs and staff are friendly- and surprisingly diverse considering it's a sushi place. More...

Like the classic Nike ad campaign - Bou knows!I dunno how this place does it. 50 dollar omakase. That's right. 50. In Manhattan. And its actually sushi. Quality sushi. What the effing what. Un. Real. Just these facts make place worth checking out. Talk abt bang for your buck. A picture of th is place should be part of the bang for your buck entry on Wikipedia.Howeevr, this place isnt just abt the price. The sushi pieces are good. They're all sauced, wasabi'd and seasoned/accompanied with condiments prior to being served. No additional soiy sauce or Wasabi necessary, as omakase shud be. All the pieces were good. I believe there were 13 thst come with the omakase. All were delicious. There was scallop. There was uni. There was wagyu. There was Toro. There was unagi. There was two types of tuna. There was salmon. How do I remmeber all this days later after I ate it? Cuz it was good. Dman good. And I tend to rmemebrr lots of useless things in general. Those worried abt the ''time limit" or "shot clock", don't be worried. Once u sit the food service begins. No thinking involved. Plus there is enough time in between each piece to discuss with ur companion as well as drink some alcohol and eat some ginger. If ure not full yet (this is typically the case with me after I have an omakase meal), plenty of add ons to choose from. I wuf def recommend ordering the big Mac special. It's an atom bomb of decadence. So so good. Also Got like 7 other hand rolls in addition (for 2 ppl). Also had 2 scotches. Damage pp after tip was the cost of ur typical good quality omakase before tip. So, I mean...Happy birthday to me and my wallet. And to you and yours if u come here. I usually don't like to write reviews because I have to be moved or disgusted to actually want to share My experience. In this case there were couple of times I had the chills while eating omakase because of how well they prepared the fish. My favorite was the salmon with yuzu sauce on top. Who would've thought that yuzu would go well with salmon?! Great service, friendly waiters and servers- shoutout to IMAX for making the experience more enjoyable. Located in a hidden little entrance on the street, Sushi by Bou is a tiny gem for anyone who is trying to get into the world of omakase and sushi. Priced at $50 per person this is probably one of the best frugal omakases you can get. The space is fairly small, only seats for roughly 9 people. Despite this though, the dining area does not feel overtly cramped and most of the guests are generally courteous as they're first timers like myself. The meal itself was a 12 or 14 course meal. Unfortunately I forgot the number but I will say the fish was well prepared with a personal favorite being their Hamachi. If it's a first time experience, I would highly recommend this place as you'll get a mix of typical fishes. Ranging from leaner fishes at the beginning to fattier fishes like o-toro (fatty tuna) near the end each nigiri piece is well composed. Additionally since the sushi bar is small it's fairly easy to interact with many of the other patrons. That said though, depending on your course there is a time limit to how long the meal lasts. It would usually end in either 30 min or 60 min. In either case, after the meal you'll be ushered out of the chairs so the next set of patrons can be seated. Just be wary if you're not used to this but it's expected given the price and the space. Overall, I would recommend this place just as a more casual omakase experience. If you want a more immersive experience there are plenty of more upscale ones in NYC that have more unique dishes. TL;DR Great beginner/casual omakase experience with an excellent price point. Came here to celebrate a special occasion on a Sunday evening. We regrettably arrived late for our 30 minute omakase and were afraid we wouldn't be able to be seated, but the host was graciously able to accommodate us. I would definitely recommend getting here early- we felt bad that the chef had to make our sushi separately from the rest of the counter's because we were late and the meal was paced slightly more quickly in order to catch us up with the rest of the group.Surprisingly, even despite this we didn't find the pacing of the sushi to feel too fast. There was sufficient pause between pieces and the chef described each piece to us and even made conversation with the table throughout the meal. We also liked that the whole menu was clearly spelled out on the chalkboard behind, with English definitions as well as the Japanese name when applicable. This is something I haven't seen at other omakase places and while the surprise element is reduced, I liked knowing what I was getting. The sushi itself was good. My favorite pieces were the medium and fatty tunas (can't go wrong) and the wagyuni (wagyu beef topped with sea urchin). Having tried higher end omakase ($100-200 price point), I could tell the difference between that and this, but for the price point I was satisfied with the quality, but not blown away.A small aside, the only iffy part of the meal was when the chef high fived some of the guests and then proceeded to continue rolling some sushi haha... ick! But at least he was friendly? Overall, it was a cool experience and I'd recommend trying it! My biggest tip- don't be late! More...

Sushi by Bou is a restaurant that only does omakase. It's about $50 for 12 pieces and they have a seating every 30 minutes. It was my first time doing a omakase. For those who don't know what an omakase is, it basically means "leave it to you". You trust the sushi chef to make you something good. Here at Sushi by Bou, they already have the 12 types of fish/protein selected.  The sushi chef gives you the sushi one at a time so that you can experience the sushi at it's freshest. The pieces of sushi were really fresh. I especially like the wagyu toro piece and o-toro piece. It was also the first time I tried uni, which is sea urchin. It's not my jam. Imagine if someone used ocean water and made a super creamy sauce.Because they seat every 30 minutes, I felt rushed and couldn't enjoy it at my own pace. It was over so fast. If you liked a certain item, you can order it a la carte when the omakase is over. It's about $12 an order. The restaurant is underground and can be easily missed. Look for a wooden gate, which leads you down the stairs. The walls leading to the restaurant is spray painted. Inside the restaurant is pretty small. There is the sushi bar and only 8 seats around it. Reservations highly recommended. There is also a small mini bar.Since they have to serve everyone at the same time for freshness of the sushi, don't be late! Don't be that person who holds everybody else up. They will wait a few minutes. More...

Truly a fantastic omakase experience- from the price, to the intimate atmosphere, to the quality of the food. Let's start with the fact that this place takes reservations (wow, how unpretentious of them! cough cough sugarfish) and is only $50 a head for a 12 course delicious omakase menu (that includes wagyu beef, uni, salmon roe, eel, and all other kinds of delicious fish in between). Now the rice! One of, if not the most important element of sushi, at Sushi by Bou was delectable. Perfectly 'slimy', sticky, and flavorful. The chef ensured to add just the right amount of wasabi, ginger and/or other sauces and flavors to each respective piece, so that it complimented the flavors of the fish or meat without overpowering it. Because this is only a 12 seat sushi bar, the setting is intimate and quiet, and they get you out in 30 minutes. You literally come to eat, enjoy your food and leave. No fuss no muss. The setting also enables you to watch the chef delicately construct each piece by hand with the effort and precision you expect from a 5 star sushi experience. The interior decor was hip and funky, and the 'find our secret door' element made you feel like you are a part of something special that's not yet been overtaken by gimmicks or NYC hype. I would absolutely recommend this place and am likely going to go back whenever I need a yummy, quick and affordable sushi fix. More...

I really want to give this place a 5 star. However, this one time we were rushed out of our seats by the manager who was very rude to us. He came in to serve us in the middle of the omakase course because our chef was moving "too slow" and then served my piece that I ordered to my bf. He ate it and then realized it wasn't what he ordered and told the manager. He then turned to us and said "then why did you eat it" with an angry face... really !! Is this how you treat regular customers. We haven't gone back since this incident but I'm willing to look pass it and give the stars based on the other times we visited. We used to go to this place twice a month because it was so close to where we live. They use a texting system to make reservations and you HAVE to book ahead of time because there aren't that many seats. The chefs are all super nice and friendly. The drinks are amazing and the whole omakase vibe is just GREAT for young people. The fish is amazing and simple. They really do a wonderful job to stand by their concept of 30 min omakase. We never felt rushed (but that one time) and always left happy. You can always order more hand rolls if you're not full and everyone is super friendly at this place. The restaurant is hidden on the second floor of jue long club. The decor is super cool and hip for such a small place. I think it's one of my favorite quick sushi place in the city. Definitely worth trying when that manager isn't around!!! More...

I visited this place while on a business trip for work. This is my most proud dining moment as I dined alone. First off this is prob the best place to dine alone or on a date, as it is a fun experience. It is a set Omakase menu where the chef makes it interactive and explains every piece. The scalp and eel were just ok, which is the only reason this place did not get a five star from me. To be fair I'm not typically an eel fan so ok- say a lot to me. Must visit in time square! I cannot say enough good things about Sushi by Bou; it is truly one of the best dining experiences in New York. They have multiple locations in the city; all of their locations are very intimate (only seat 8-10 people). They're very good at getting people in and out on time (which makes it a great spot for quick work day lunches). The sushi is absolutely fantastic, every piece is extremely fresh and delicious. Amazing time! We came here by chance after we were rejected from Haven as their rooftop was "over capacity". Lucky us, we had a drink by the bar here to celebrate my birthday and Peter was an amazing bartender. We had the old fashioned and it was one of the best we ever had  While we were enjoying our drinks, we noticed that few seats opened up so we were lucky enough to sample the omakase. It was $50 pp for 12 pieces, ranging including toro and uni. Our chef was Kin, whom used to work at Masa. We had a great time there and everyone was super friendly. (Updated this to five stars after many repeat visits. The quality has been consistent every single time!)This place was cool. I mean hip. And hop. Ok, it was a little party inside. I've never been to a sushi bar with an ambiance like this one. There was loud lounge music, hip lighting, and original high-quality cocktails. The seating is timed and constantly churning. This makes sense: the place can only serve 7 people at a time. You get 30 minutes to eat. Each course comes at you as you finish your last. This is not a leisurely Saturday night sit down sushi. But before you dismiss it, know this: the sushi is excellent and the omakase is a great price!!This is a great place to start your date night, especially if you've got a show to run to. The quality is high for what you pay, the ambiance is definitely good for dates (unlike a typical well-lit sushi joint), and you can very accurately schedule when you'll be done. BEST SUSHI ever ! 12 pieces for $50 omakase. Wth? So cheap! This was SO good, each piece was seasoned perfectly. Sushi seasoned to perfection and it's also quick ! If you're not down for that 2 hour dinner, here is quick but also definitely not lacking on flavor or taste. All of the workers were super friendly and personable, making our dining experience even better! Also the drinks are SOOOO good. Love this place, but had birthday reservations and was running very slightly late because of there being a literal flash flood (had to walk through Times Square barefoot after getting all dressed up in a velvet maxi dress and leather heels just to get there in one piece), and the fact that they didn't seem terribly sympathetic or willing to accommodate really blows. Wanted to have a great time at my favorite place in NYC, but felt rushed and like I was just being an inconvenience on my own birthday, which was a real downer on what could have been a great night. Made a reservation for this amazing restaurant one week in advance and the entire experience was incredible. This was my first Omakase and it exceeded my high expectations. It is a tremendous 12-course meal in 30 minutes. The ingredients they use are extremely fresh and you can taste every component each piece. The service was great and the sushi chefs are charismatic and you get to watch them make each entree in front of you. My favorite dishes in no particular order were the Wagyu-Uni, Uni, Scallop, Toro, Scallop, Botan Shrimp, and Albacore. They have a promotion where if you get 30 views of a picture in 30 minutes, you get a free Toro handroll, which was absolutely delicious. I made reservations for a party of 2 during lunch hours for their 30-minute omakase experience. This place wasn't that hard to spot as they had a sushi by bou sign out front and you can notice the graffiti stairs pretty quick. You have to go downstairs and it's in a small room. The staff were really friendly, always joking around. There are only 8 seats so the place is pretty small. The omakase comes with 12 pieces for $50 + tax & tip which is really worth it for NYC prices (or america in general). I honestly did not have very high expectations since I went to sushi on jones (the original $50 omakase place in nyc) and had a terrible experience. The fish was very fresh and delicious! I didn't feel like I was rushed at all and had a great time.I normally don't like shrimp or uni but I actually don't mind it here. We've been looking for a reasonable omakase place so made a rez at Sushi by Bou based on Yelp reviews. So glad I did, what a unique and wonderful dinner we had there! As noted by others, it's a cozy space with 8 stools at the sushi bar and a few seats along the wall for imbibing cocktails. One must make a rez by text and make sure it's been confirmed (no phone calls). First one descends a street art decorated staircase to enter the culinary cocoon.  I felt like I was back in Japan with the homey atmosphere. The lovely hostess Tenzin greeted us and offered us some cold water. Tenzin was super friendly and upbeat throughout, engaging with customers and keeping the pace going. Frankly I was skeptical about a 30 minute turnaround being adequate so splurged for the "Bougie" one hour meal which consists of 17 pieces of sushi (versus 12 for the regular omakase), including the deservedly famous "big mac" uni and wagyu roll. The fish was uniformly fresh with several buttery pieces of o-toro, ebi and my fave hamachi included. The sushi chef seared several pieces of fish with a mini torch which brought out the flavor even more. Following Tenzin's recommendation we got two sake flights that went perfectly with the meal. We topped it all off with a beautiful jewel box of mochi ice creams, said our goodbyes and were off. Next time I'll try the 30 minute meal, the place runs like clockwork so I don't think I'll feel rushed after all. More...

Truly a wonderful omkase place, but it has some minor flaws.  First off, I get the "seating around the bar/right next to the chef" type of experience but can the seats be slightly more comfortable? I felt like a child on a high chair the whole time (albeit I am only five feet tall). Second, some of the sushi completely missed the mark but holistically speaking it was great. And no, you obviously don't get to pick and choose and it's set up as a fixed 12 piece course. With that being said, the piece with the caviar (forgot the name) seemed promising but was very off putting. The hamachi and botan shrimp were also not the best. However, there were several pieces that truly stole the show and made me give Sushi by Bou four instead of three stars. This included the o-toro, wagyu uni, and unagi. My favorite by far though was the chu toro. I thought I would've enjoyed the fatty tuna more but the medium fatty tuna was absolutely perfect. All in all, though it's not perfect, Sushi by Bou is worthy of trying at least once, especially since it's a lot more reasonably priced than the vast majority of authentic omkase places in the city. This was my first Omakase and it was certainly a memorable experience. Amazing and high quality fish. 12 pieces in around 30 minutes, all chosen by the house. However, they do ask you if you have any dietary restrictions and allergies before starting the meal. The fish ranges from tuna, to salmon, sea urchin, albacore, and eel. The chefs are friendly and really talented, sometimes using a blow up torch for some of the pieces. Overall expensive ($50 each for the Omakase), but worth it. One thing I would like to note, for hungry people like myself, this is not very filling, and you may leave feeling hungry still, even though you just dropped $50 dollars. More...

If you want an affordable omakase experience, Sushi by Bou is probably your best bet. But do be warned, if you're hungry at the end, don't start freely ordering hand rolls as those quickly add up. We got (in order) hamachi, lean tuna, chu-toro, botan shrimp, ikura, albacore, scallop, uni, o-toro, salmon, wagyu uni, and unagi. My favorite piece was definitely the o-toro (unsurprisingly), but to my surprise, I really enjoyed the albacore, which was torched. Also a fan of the ikura, and wagyu uni is a hard one to dislike. I did sometimes find the amount of wasabi dabbed into my pieces of sushi a bit much but didn't know if that's just because I'm a wimp or because they went overboard. More...

Literally a dream come true. The price was reasonable- only $50 for 12 pieces!! Our chef seemed so passionate about omakase and had a nice conversation about how important fresh uni was. Everything was soooo good we were speechless, we literally did not speak the whole meal. The experience is quick since we did the 30 minute session but definitely worth a try. We HAD to try the Big Mac which was an additional charge but it was AMAZING~~~ They even gave us sake shots on the house for finishing it in one bite!! Since the chef seemed so passionate about the freshness of the uni, we were easily convinced on trying an uni handroll. Although it did add up, I do not regret having it at all. This is by far the best sushi I have ever had. Each piece is prepared in front of you, after you have eaten the piece before. Each bite is better than the one before. Perfect amount of seasoning. I really can't articulate how amazing and fresh everything is. It's more traditional than some people might be used to. No rolls or tempura or soup here. It is straightforward omakase style sushi. Chefs choice and I recommend eating it just the way it's given to you. Doesn't need anything else. The cocktails are as amazing as the food. The old fashioned pearl was absolutely incredible. By far the best old fashioned I have ever had. I'm still dreaming about it. There are 12? Seats around a bar with up to 3 sushi chefs preparing the food. (There may be more but I've been with 1 and I've been with 3). The ambiance of the place is amazing. It is a small spot inside another restaurant. The walls are painted the most amazing blue color and the photos on the walls are of Warhol, Basquiat and the likes. More...

Sushi by Bou is a cool place with a much different vibe than most other omakase spots and quite frankly with fish that makes you wonder why you would spend $400 at an upscale place anyway. The $50 pre-fixe is a deal, but combined with a drink or two, you'll already find yourself in comparable territory with some higher scale sushi places, but none of that really matter at the time because the fish is great. The tuna, the uni, the yellowtail and much more are all really well done and leaves you with no regrets by the end of the quick 30 minute meal. By the end of it, I was actually contemplating if it was really that similar to some of the higher class omakase places i've been to, and if it was, it was either marginal or my sushi palate isn't as refined as I thought.Overall, the fish is nice, the place and presentation isn't as classy and the wait staff is hit or miss, but I would definitely recommend this place as a first go for omakase. I can't say enough about our dining experience.  This underground hideaway was a real knockout.  Apparently Times Square restaurants are generally for tourists and leave a lot to be desired...but not Sushi by Bou.  And in fact, it had a regular type of crowd (vs. tourists) all enjoying the easy feel of the sushi bar/restaurant and great fare.  A reservation is a must - a lot of people just turned up - only to be turned away.We opted for the one-hour menu - 17 courses - and I was FULL!  (The 30 minute menu is also very popular).  I was worried I'd feel rushed, but the best plan is to get there early and have a cocktail and then enjoy dinner - and there was plenty of time.  Everything was really well done and the place has a good, fun nearly speakeasy type of ambiance.  We went for a pre-theater dinner,  and had so much fun we stuck around for drinks afterward and to chat with the upbeat and fun-loving Imax, their long-time bartender.  Imax made us feel like old friends.  We decided even if we can't get in one night, if we are in the area, we'd make it a point to have cocktails there.  Imax delivers some great ones - and even infuses his own rum with hot peppers to make a fabulous spicy mojito-style drink.  He really enhanced the entire evening for us.Ashi was our sushi chef and he was easy and fun to converse with.  He taught us the difference between some types of fish - as we tried a couple we had never had before...and we eat a LOT of sushi.  The "surf and turf" (waygu and uni) was inspired!  Each dish was beautifully presented and the fish was extremely fresh.  And I like that the sushi wasn't heavy on rice.Besides the theater, Sushi by Bou is a great reason to visit Times Square! Super amazing value for $50!! The omakase experience includes 12 pieces of sushi, strict 30 minute window from the time of your reservation- be on time! (Mine started less than 10 minutes from my reservation time) The restaurant only has around 10 seats available so you definitely have to make a reservation beforehand. Every cut of fish was fresh and since it was my first omakase it really made me want to try others as well! After the experience is complete, they will ask if you want to get more of any of the pieces and they add the price accordingly. You can probably stay about 45 minutes max. More...

Sushi by Bou was by far my favorite dining experience during my time in New York. My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to get last minute reservations at this sushi bar designed to seat 8. The manager/bartender Imax is a jack of all trade and a master of hospitality. Very solid place in NY for omakase - and great value too! $50 omakase, 12 pieces, 30 mins (NY and its efficiency). The entrance is a little hidden and has colourful graffiti around it. The restaurant has 8 seats and you definitely need to make a reservation beforehand. And make sure you arrive on time! WHen I went there, they had the 30 in 30 challenge going on - basically if you post a picture of the restaurant/food on instagram, as long as you get 30 views/likes in 30mins, you get a free shot of sake and a toro handroll. Great marketing strategy but the challenge stressed me out a little during the meal so I wasn't able to focus on the food as much as I would like. Okay, to the actual food - all the sushi was made so well! My favourites were defintiely the uniagi/wagyu roll (I aws still thinking about it after the meal), the scallop and the fatty toro. I really like d the 12 piece selection - it hit all the right spots. The sushi chefs were really nice and joked around with us during our dinner. You can also add handrolls/uni shooter at the end if you're feeling up for it - but I was  feeling full enough after my omakase and handroll! Check this place out, you won't regret it!! More...

This was our first time having omakase and we were blown away.  The ambience was great.  It felt like a speakeasy and was really urban/hip in comparison to other Japanese restaurants.  We decided to go for the Bougie package for 17 pieces/60 minutes and we did not have any regrets.  Our favorite sushi were the toro and the wagyuni hands down. We also took advantage of their 30 likes in 30 minutes to get a free shot of sake and additional handroll.  After the meal was done the chef surprised us with an additional piece of sushi (sweet ebi).  We ended up with 19 pieces for $100.   We will definitely go back in the future as we felt the value was really good.Only advice: Watch your step! Overall: A favorite date night spot.Vibe: Lots of Warhol decor right when you walk up and has a trendy, dim aesthetic.Food: Pretty standard, but high quality omakase, especially for what it's priced at. The scallop was definitely my favorite out of the omakase, and the Big Mac was fun to try a la carte - though would probably not get it regularly.Drinks: I ordered the Yuzu Honey Bee which was great, but my boyfriend's Southsider was really, really good.Service: We actually waited some 10-15 minutes to be seated, but that's just because the earlier reservations were late - which I imagine always makes the servers stressed out. An absolutely delightful find. It is omakase that is very affordable. It was under $70 per person along with drinks and omakase. We are seated based on a scheduled time (make sure to call in advance) and we were sat at a sushi bar where the sushi chef's will make your nigiri sushi on the spot. The rice is warm and the fish is fresh. There was a cut of every fish but my favorite was the truffled wagyu and the uni. You can tell it's made the right way as they serve it to you one by one instead of all at once. This ensures that all is fresh. This place was amazingggg. Has easily become my top sushi spot in Manhattan! We were hoping for the one hour $100 omakase but we only got a reservation at 9:30 and my fiancé was a few minutes late so they couldn't accommodate for that but they did make sure we had a great time while we were there and our time certainly went over the 30 minute anyway! FYI, We were only accommodated for being late because we were the last seating - don't plan on being more than one or two minutes late or they will not seat you, they run a tight schedule so it's understandable, as soon as your 30 minutes are up, the next guests are coming in to dine. The chefs were very interactive and fun, it's a very intimate setting with only 8 seats I believe so everyone gets a little attention. The sushi just melts in your mouth, everything I ate was truly delicious! If you have allergies or things you don't like, they get creative and concoct something else for you to enjoy. You can order additional items a la cart at the end if you like. Will definitely be back for more! More...

I went there to celebrate my bday, they gave me a complimentary sake. Other than service, the order of omakase designed pretty good~ the salmon, ottoro, fish egg, uni are all so fresh. This is definitely what they call a hidden gem! You can easily pass the entrance of Sushi by Bou if you're not paying attention. The entrance was located right next to a hotel that also had a sushi restaurant in it but you're all down this graffiti plastered staircase down into a small sushi bar. The art, lighting, and ambiance of the place had very good vibes and every piece of sushi was amazing. I had to force myself to take pictures so I could remember some of the pieces I ate because I just wanted to eat everything the moment the sushi chef placed it on my plate. Having eaten sushi at a number of places and in Japan, I can confidently say this place serves very high quality 12-piece omakase experience for an extremely reasonable price ($50). Even though there is a 30-minute time limit, I didn't feel rushed while eating. My only regret is that I didn't take more time to talk to the chefs and take the time to remember each and every piece. Side note: the host and staff were very kind and attentive throughout the whole meal. The ones that stuck out to me were the ootoro, scallop, and shrimp pieces. The ikura was also really nice and not super salty or fishy like most other places. Of course, the pictured Wagyu beef with uni was quite amazing but I kind of felt the seaweed got in the way of the amazing flavor of the beef and uni. In other words, please try this place, try not to take pictures, and enjoy the food and people you dine with. More...

Great sushi it their foundation. Every bite was delicious - even the maguro, which I usually think is quite boring. What makes this place special is the fun experience - the sushi chefs and all the staff worked together to make your experience fun and enjoyable, on top of delicious. They ran out of uni at the time of my reservation, but they made me whole and more by accepting my idea to come back the next day without reservations - and made me the most generous portion of the Big Mac, plus an uni nigiri. When i showed up, they remembered me and sat me down, no questions asked.  I'd definitely go back and made recommendations to my friends in NY. More...

Came here last week for the first seating at 5pm on a Thursday. This place is easy to miss. It is next to a hotel, and down the stairs to the basement area decorated by artsy graffiti. We were greeted immediately upon walking in and offered drinks prior to being seated at the sushi bar. We came for the 12-piece omakase which was timed at a rather strict 30 minute meal time. We were seated at the sushi bar, which only had about 8 seats. The chef was very friendly and spoke to us the entire time. Omakase included the following : hamachi (yellowtail), wagyu/uni (surf/turf), uni (sea urchin), unagi (eel), lean tuna, otoro (fatty tuna), ikura (roe), scallop, shrimp, salmon with yuzu sauce, albacore tuna. Each piece of fish was fresh, hand crafted and nicely presented one at a time. My favorite piece was the wagyu need and the uni - what an interesting combination of land and sea. The otoro and uni were also very delicious. Having a 30 minutes limit for dinner might appear to be rushed, however we did have enough time to savor each piece prior to being served the next one. Also the fun part of dining here - if you post a photo of your experience at sushi by bou either on Instagram or Facebook, and receive 30 views/likes before your meal ends (within the 30 minutes), you will receive a free glass of sake, and a free handroll. I got the otoro handroll for free, and it was unbelievably melt in your mouth good. Highly recommend this omakase experience to anyone looking for an affordable ($50) omakase experience. More...

It's been awhile since I felt an Omakase so satisfying and worth its price. The atmosphere, staff, service, quality of food, and price are on point and I have nothing to complain about. It's little hard to find the gate, you have to step down some sketchy looking stairs. Once you open the door, you see crazy and hip graffiti all over the wall until you see another entrance to the bar. The bar is classy but fun. There's only around 10 bar seatings but didn't feel crowded because of the way they set up the bar.We came in around 15 to 20 minutes earlier to our reservation but sat right in. We ordered a sake tasting which was three cups of sake for $32. They went very well with the pieces and they were flavorful overall. The chef was professional and very quick to serve. It felt little fast but in order to finish the course in 30 minutes, that was understandable. It went fast! All the pieces were so good and fresh. After our course, we were able to order more pieces. We ordered Big Mac, which is wagyu, scallop, uni, and toro. It didn't feel too buttery, was on point. I was little surprised because it was topped with buttery and fatty pieces on top to top. It's like $15 a piece but they give you a free sake shot if you take it in one bite. It was not that hard lol so I felt like it was a decent value. Also they offer sake and one roll if you get more than 30 likes in 30 minutes on IG. Through the way they chipped in little fun elements throughout, the experience got better and more satisfying. It's a great spot to enjoy quality sushi without being in an authentic and typical wooden interior Japanese sushi bar. More...

THIS. PLACE. IS. TO. DIE. FOR. Like I really want to just give them 10 stars out of 5. It's THAT good!! Ugh, I'm drooling just thinking about it now. Anyway, I came here for dinner with a friend and made reservations in advance. When we were walking in, it was REALLY sketch but it was part of the theme I'm guessing? The place is very small and secluded with limited seats. All guests have a time limit so that way, those who have reservations after us, will get their seats on time. Service was phenomenal, hands down. We came in and were welcomed as the previous guests were leaving. There is a small couch there you can wait on and a rack for your coat. It was so comfortable and cozy in there that I just left my bag there on the couch while we heading up to the bar/dining area to have dinner. (Don't worry, I can see my bag! Haha) We ordered two Omakase sets for my friend and I and I believe it came with 12 different courses/fish. All of them were so good and melted in your mouth every time! I was shook. My favorite was the Wagyuni (surf + turf). I'm telling you, I can eat that everyday for the rest of my life! It was so good, we ordered extra on the side hehe. Also, did I mention that the omakase was only $50 That is a steal!! Usually places are $100+. How is it possible to get such a cheap omakase with quality I still can't believe it but I'm not complaining! I will definitely be returning every time I can. I remember the fond times in my late teens and early twenties when I could go and have a great time at all you can eat sushi places for $20 or enjoy cafeteria sushi arrangement for under $10. I could enjoy random prepackaged sushi with salmon and tuna and eel with the plain rice that had been sitting in a fridge for hours, and even some cases days. The one thing I could not stand was Uni or roe as it often tasted sour. This all changed when I started discovering quality sushi places that had verities  of fish and expose me to parts of the fish that were sublime. Discovered sushi chefs who understood that the rice and temperature was as important of an ingredient as the fish, and that sitting at the counter and eating the piece right after it had been prepared was an optimal experience for eating sushi. Sadly these experiences aren't cheap and generally come at a huge cost. Well what if I told you that you could get all of this for only $50 a person. Yes I know it isn't as cheap as $30 all you can eat sushi, and if you enjoy that experience I would advise you to stay away from Sushi by Bou. I think it is the best omakase for the money in NYC so far. We reserved for 845pm but didn’t get seated until 9pm. The layout is weird but some can say special. We were served by Chief Cameron and I would recommend him again. The sushi are really fresh, fish are high quality. Uni is straight from Hokkaido. Atmosphere is really lay back and chilly. Music is a little loud for my taste but my gf likes it. There are only bar seat as should all legit omakase. Just be aware that anything you order outside of the omakase is kinda expensive as compared to the course itself. I made it the day of and thankfully got a spot. It was a Tuesday though so you might have better luck when you go on a less busy night! The staff are really friendly and the chefs really know their craft. The sushi came out at a very fast rate, considering you only had 30 minutes to eat 12 pieces of sushi - that's an average of 3 minutes for the chef to craft 4 pieces of sushi. There are two chefs - and a full bar has 8 people, so the place is pretty small but you definitely do get some undivided attention. Now that I think about it, I may go back again soon :) More...

I'd give this place 7 out of 5 stars, it's that good. I wanted to do something special for the girlfriend's birthday, and found this place on Yelp. After reading the recommendations and seeing the food, I had to check it out. You absolutely need to make a reservation because they book quick. It only seats 8 people, so it's nice & intimate. I love that over the hustle & bustle of a busy Manhattan restaurant. After checking out the punk rock exterior & staircase, you make your way down to a single room with very helpful & friendly staff. You check in and are seated. When everyone arrives, that's when your omakase experience begins. For 30 minutes or an hour, you are given the best hand made fresh pieces of sushi you'll ever have. Every piece is like a masterpiece made in front of your eyes. It's fresh, delicious, warm, and almost melts in your mouth. Take your time and enjoy every piece you can. I also ordered a Big Mac hand roll and mochi ice cream for dessert, and they were amazing. Watching the Big Mac get made, and then eating it.... like if Da Vinci was a chef. We had an absolute blast and recommend Sushi By Bou to all our friends and family. You won't be disappointed. More...

Make sure you're on time for your reservation!!! They start on the dot and start counting down the clock. The staff were so vibrant and nice. Max (host), my new bff, was so darn cool. I almost didn't make it but bucked it from 49th street dodging the immense amounts of tourist and got there just in time. I was winded, out of breath. He knew I was there for my bday and gave me a shot to rehydrate myself (you da best) as we were about to get seated. The sushi and sashimi are fresh and absolutely delicious. Take advantage of the 30in30minutes challenge!!! The one negative thing I'd have to say though is that the sushi pieces are definitely small so you may not feel full afterwards. My friend and I ordered a few pieces additional as a la carte. It's definitely worth going to for a quick bite. Thanks Max for such a wonderful experience. More...

I've been converted. I was never really into raw fish, or raw anything, so I never understood when people spend hundreds of dollars on omasake meals. My friend really wanted to try out this place so I decided to give it a try as well. I was so surprised because I literally loved every single piece! I didn't feel disgusted eating it and nothing was fishy or gave me nausea (like how Sugarfish did).  Now I understand the quality is key! The price was so reasonable and the meal left me wanting for more. The timed meal was perfectly executed and I really enjoyed this experience. More...

My new go-to lowkey omakase spot. There are less than 10 seats at each time slot, so it's an intimate setting around the sushi chefs. The decor is very hipster amd is a great date spot. I felt super comfortable as a solo diner. The pacing (30-45 min) is actually perfect for a quick dinner, one of the major pros in my mind.Had the yuzu honey bee (gin instead of bourbon) and the drink was well made! Pricey new york drink of $17, but Imax, the bartender was super social and welcoming. The fish was so fresh! The scallop, hamachi, and tuna were so delicious. Adding on a Big Mac (wagyu, uni, toro, scallop) is a must, even if it's pricier! It's a decadent piece that should be saved for last. I'll definitely be back. Atmosphere, pacing, food, comfort: 11/10 Was a few minutes late to my half hour reservation (don't be like me!) but all was fine and good. Given the nature of how the sushi chefs serves everyone at once, really best to be on time. More...

This is a very small place with attentive and friendly service and a decent deal for the amount of pieces they give you. I really enjoyed the experience and for the price, I'd definitely recommend it! They also do a challenge where if you post a story and get 30 views in 30 minutes then you get a free handroll and sake. My favorites were the scallop and the uni. The last piece was a wagyu with uni on top and seaweed wrapped - delicious! Total came to be $65 with tip and tax so it's comparable to the sushi on Jones experience but I think you get more pieces. GO to Sushi by Bou! Never, ever disappoints. My mom came to visit a couple of weekends ago. We wanted sushi. I knew exactly where to take her -- Sushi by Bou, and I made reservations in advance. I've been here several times before with visiting and local friends alike, and it has been absolute heaven in my mouth every. Single. Time. Give into the tantalizing neon lights that implore you to "EAT ME," and step downstairs for the most intimate dining experience. Fish is SO FRESH. Wasabi really HITS THE SPOT (I don't even like wasabi, but the wasabi here is killer, the perfect amount of zing!). Staff is SO kind and friendly. This time around, my mom and I came for lunch. Imax greeted us. He was the chillest bartender! Went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. We became friends by the end. We didn't get the name of the hostess, but she was amazing. Such good conversation! And our CHEF. Oh my, born to create sushi. We opted for the 60-minute, 17-piece, $100 omakase (includes hand roll), and each piece was glorious -- naturally buttery, melt-in-your mouth kind of flavor; full, full, full of tasty goodness. Every bite elicited a sigh of delight. I'm salivating just thinking about it.This was one of my mom's favorite meals while she was here. THANK YOU for making her trip to NYC that much more special! With good food and company like this, she went back home to Cali knowing I was in the best culinary hands. Will return soon!! More...

There's a new option at Sushi by Bou for a 60 min option which we went for. we were running late but they were able to accommodate no problem. I figured it'd be a pretty quick experience, but I still felt like it was really rushed. There was another party next to us that finished their 30 min omakase in just 15 mins. Just be prepared that they're really efficient which can be good or bad based on your preference.  The food itself was overall really good. Some of the other reviews say that the pieces are small - and they are a tad smaller, but not too dramatic. We definitely felt satiated after the meal (keep in mind we opted for 60 min seating). The quality of the tuna was really excellent! In terms of drinks, decent selection. I had one of the sake options and it was really good. Can't speak for the cocktails. We would go back if we want to have a quick omakase meal. Would likely just go for the 30 min next time because the additional pieces we had weren't stand-out enough. Great fast and cheap omakase. You have 30 minutes to eat 12 pieces of sushi. All decently fresh and well made. Must try their Big Mac to get the ultimate umami experience! It consist of seared wagyu, scallop, Uni (sea urchin), and toro. Super fatty and delicious! Their sushi are smaller pieces compared to other 30 mins sushi joint but their quality is definitely good. The toro was fatty and rich. Wagyu melts in your mouth, don't require a lot of chewing, and topped off with creamy sea urchin. For the cocktails portion, I thought the sangria was average but there are probably better other cocktails they offer. Or you can go for the beer option as well. They also offer sake flights for $34 for 3 types of sake, all three were pretty decent size. More...

Cannot say enough great things about this place. After a recent reservation mix up that ended up  with us being unable to dine here one night we had a reservation, the management was quick to reach out and remedy the situation. I think it might be because I'm such a loyal customer... I would eat here every single day if I could.SETTING: We were able to come here another night instead (9:30PM on a Friday night). As expected, the sushi counter was packed as was the small seating space they have, with people waiting to seated. The omakase counter is run like a tight ship- you're either in or out, but never rushed. And with how good this place is, you end up eating faster than you think (30 minutes is no issue) because as soon as you're done with one piece you're shoveling the next one down your throat. It's SO GOOD. The place is small but very cute/trendy with big neon signs, nicely lit interior and music playing not too loudly in the background. Perfect for a date or sushi with friends.FOOD: The sushi here is hands down the #1 best omakase I've had in this city, both in terms of incredible fresh sashimi with mind blowing pieces and cost/value. You cannot get $50 omakase with this quality of sushi anywhere else. Each and every piece here is incredible, all perfectly paired with some minor topping like salt or yuzu that simply elevates the taste of each bite to another level. With each piece, you think this is truly God's gift to earth (and your mouth). The fatty tunas are so buttery almost, they melt in your mouth. I would buy the entire tuna they have if I could (and actually requested my boyfriend buy it for me next time we're here for my birthday). I'm not exaggerating it really is that good. VERDICT: please do yourself a favor and come here. If it's not the best omakase in NYC for taste and value please let me know what place you think is possibly better. I'll give you $10 if you're right but I strongly doubt anything could dethrone Sushi by Bou in my book. More...

Just outstanding. Sushi always fresh and high-quality, even on a Sunday, which I used as a test. I've been to this location twice now and one of their other locations as well, and all have consistent excellent omakase. Don't go if you want a leisurely long dining experience however. That's not what this place is all about. My only minor complaint is that they consistently try to upsell you on expensive things like sake flights. Just rubs me the wrong way the way they talk about it with such obvious marketing hyperbole. I'm sure it's very nice. It must be a money maker for them. Anyway, because of the quality of the fish and rice, and good price point, I am a fan. I look forward to trying their other locations. More...

This is the same review I sent directly to the restaurant (via the Yelp text service). Had thought it would be reflected directly on Yelp afterward. I've added additional details below it.--Everything was great except for the wasabi that was included in what could've been my favorite piece (the wagyu/uni). Even though I explicitly stated no wasabi. Be glad I am not allergic, but would hope you be careful for someone who might be.Unfortunately I could not taste the luscious wagyu or uni over the overwhelming wasabi flavor :(. In the past, when this happens at a sushi/omakase spot, the chefs usually apologized and re-made that piece for me, but this did not happen here (made me feel like I was unimportant).--Additional details of my Omakase experience aside from the aforementioned wasabi fiasco:My favorite piece was the otoro with truffle salt/oil, because anything with truffle is epic.I do wish the chef explained the pieces a bit better. Not just which fish - but also the garnish. Will come back to potentially try the a la carte items I didn't notice until we had left the sushi bar.Enjoy your omakase experience! Especially if wasabi doesn't bother you. More...

SENSATIONAL!The omakase experience you can get for $50 here is unbelievable. This is heaven for sushi purists. All of the pieces tasted amazing but the big mac (uni on top of seared wagyu) was the highlight of the meal. The uni and wagyu just melts away in your mouth. It was soooo good that I had to close my eyes to savor every second of it. I got annoyed when my boyfriend tried to ask me a question when I was still enjoying this piece. Other standout pieces include the otoro, shrimp, albacore, and uni. Even their medium fatty tuna was amazing! I love the simple straightforward omakase experience here. The restaurant is very intimate with only seats 8 guests total. Everybody is seated around the bar so you get to talk to the chef and watch them prepare each piece for you. The chef serves all guests at the same time so it's very important that you come on time. Each omakase time slot is about 30-45 minutes. I was worried about feeling rush at first but the pacing was perfect for a 12-piece omakase. Sushi by Bou just became my favorite sushi place in NY! It has everything I value in omakase places and is super affordable! More...

Incredible experience. This speakeasy is extremely inviting from the time you step in. 30-minutes of high quality sushi comes your way - the 12-piece for $50 is ethereal and leaves plenty of room to splurge on additional pieces of your favorites or handrolls. This place is such an amazing spot if you're looking to impress a sushi lover. (Forgive me, because my palate isn't quite as refined in the sushi world.)  It's omakase meets speakeasy meets lunch express. This restaurant only serves small groups at the same time, so be sure to get a reservation early. They specialize in the 30 minute 12 piece omakase lunch course (for $50) or a 60 minute 17 piece dinner course for $100. The food is simply out of this world. The meals are well paced, but rushed and it is out of this world. You get to try everything and to be honest, after 12 pieces of sushi, you start to feel a pleasant satiated. 17, and OMG, you're done. One thing I do love about the chefs here is that they ask for you dietary restrictions and cater the pieces to you. We had someone that couldn't eat certain fish, and they very easily made substitutions to account for it. More...
