It was a pleasure collaborating with Robert Jamieson on our renovation. As a Project Manager, Robert excelled at creative problem solving and communication, and we owe the success of the project to him. And as a Designer, Robert's eye for detail and materials helped us the achieve the thoughtful and cohesive look we were aiming for. I highly recommend Robert Jamieson and look forward to working with him on future projects. More...

Robert lead us on our first journey of Home renovation/restoration and we would not have survived without him! From the initial consultation, to dealing with contractors, vendors, inspections, etc - not only was Robert looked to, but he always was a step ahead. Beyond his ability to navigate us through the process, his attention to detail in the design process is impeccable. Although this was our first makeover on a home, we had a very strong aesthetic opinion and, of course, a very limited budget to work with. Robert was able to meet us, direct us and bring to us ideas and designs that exceeded our expectations... all while being professionally patient and thorough. Ultimately, we love our home... and feel so fortunate that Robert was the one to design it. More...

Robert came to our property in Brooklyn for a consultation. As it turned out, the project was too small for him. However, he spent quite a bit of time with me, and he gave me a great design idea which I hadn’t thought of. We followed through w/ his idea, and my husband and I are both very happy with the way his concept turned out. He also recommended the type of firm that I needed. More...

Robert was a pleasure to work with, who went above and beyond at each step of the process.

We first contacted Robert while looking for a home to renovate. Without us asking, he went to Open Houses for several of the homes we were interested in to gauge their potential. (We were not local during this search, so this was particularly helpful.)

After we selected a home, Robert spent a lot of time talking with us to understand our vision. He presented us with options that we would never have thought of but perfectly matched what we were looking for.

Along the way my wife and I added many elements to the project and ended up over our budget. Robert helped us reduce the scope and make necessary substitutions. In the end, we are happier with the "reduced scope" version of the project anyway!

Robert was also extremely helpful during the construction process. This was our first major renovation, and management of the many contractors and vendors involved would have been beyond overwhelming for us.

We selected the contractors based on Robert's recommendation, and they were worked seamlessly together. It's hard to imagine there would have been much difference if they were one "design-build" firm.

In the end, we have a home that we love and is beyond what we could've imagined. We're starting work on a new external project with Robert and I expect we will continue to work with him for any projects in the future.

STUDIOrobert jamieson has worked with Urban Evolutions on multiple projects over the last 15 years, both commercial and residential. He is highly innovative in his approach to material design. Because of his experience, he understands the opportunities and challenges posed by reclaimed wood products. We recently wrapped up a project where we supplied reclaimed tobacco lath for an office space and the final project pictures were absolutely stunning. I first saw Robert's work in Philadelphia Magazine, which featured photos of his home renovation. As soon as I saw these photos I contacted Robert for a consultation with our lower level renovation. Our houses were designed by the same architect, Robert McElroy, and
from the moment he walked in I knew he was the right person for the job. Before he came over for the consult we were only thinking of replacing the 1980's teal carpet and painting the walls. Robert envisioned making a larger bedroom for our son in what was then a storage room. He also suggested knocking out a wall in the family room to create a bigger open space. These two ideas completely transformed the downstairs layout and we're so grateful that he thought outside the box and made these suggestions. My husband and I would never have thought of these ideas on our own. I am in awe of his vision and creativity because now that the project is complete we have much more living space and natural light coming into the den. Robert also chose the hardwood flooring which looks stunning and is in keeping with the spirit of the house. Although we were short on the amount of flooring that was ordered we were able to obtain more within a few days so it really wasn't a big issue.
Robert also suggested a contractor to perform the work and that company complied with all of Robert's specifications. Their quality of work was excellent.

We plan on renovating our kitchen within the next couple of years and
Robert will be the only one we trust because of his vision, creativity, and aesthetic sensibility.

My husband and I discovered and purchased a beautiful, 2.5 acre wooded lot on a bluff overlooking West Grand Traverse Bay in northern Michigan. The view from the site, as well as the beautiful surrounding woods was incedible, and we wanted to have a home design that would take advantage of the natural beauty. Also, we wanted a home that met our lifestyle - that of two working professionals with demanding schedules who desire a home that is a comfortable nest. Also, a home that would lend itself well to informal entertaining, and provide comfortable and private spaces for overnight family and guests. Robert worked very closely with us during all facets of the design of our home. He created a space that reveals the beauty of our site as we move through our home. He also was responsible for seletion of materials throughout the home, including furniture. In northern Michigan, we enjoy four beauiful seasons. Robert's design has truly captured the beauty of the site, actually blends the outdoors with the indoors spaces, while also maintaining good flow throughout the house. More...

As new house owners, we left a condo living and decided to move into a house. We ultimately decided to purchase an older house and customize it to our tastes and needs. I had used Houzz.com to source some architects to help us out. We found Robert and a few others but it was Robert that accompanied me to house inspection for one and then also accompanied me to view the house we ended up purchasing. From start to finish, he was there.
We utilized Houzz.com albums to collect photos and ideas to share so he could get a better sense of our needs and wants. He managed pretty much everything from the contractors to the purchasing of items. He also has a great eye for detail so when he conducted the final walk (we were traveling) and approved it, I didn't worry about him missing anything. As new home owners new to renovation, we did go over budget and in the end, we did have to omit some of the items/detailing that we wanted which was frustrating but Robert provided us alternatives so that we could discuss and decide. In the end, with the budget issue and not having the home 100% to what we wanted, we are still very happy with the project. People who have seen the home before are amazed at the results.
We are very happy to have found Robert. As non-creative home owners who have never renovated a home, we would have never come up with some of the concepts he produced. He enabled us to customize this house enough that it meets our aesthetic and functional needs.
Robert is very diligent and detailed. I think he may have been too detailed for us (ha) but as a result of me giving in to him, we have a stand out master bathroom.
I view our home a great learning experience into the area of renovation. I now have Robert to use as a standard.

Q&As

Design is an iterative process that begins with the client, project program and site, whether it be an existing building or virgin landscape. Style, experience, space and views are developed as a result of the client and site, not imposed upon them. We work to develop initial design concepts using 2D plans and 3D renderings so our clients understand how the space is being transformed, and the impact of various design solutions, materials and lighting. Once the client approves a design direction, we prepare detailed architectural drawings and specifications for bidding, permit and construction of your project. We also partner with contractors throughout the construction process to insure they are executing to our design intent.

Our firm specializes in modern design but is also skilled at implementing reclaimed materials and found objects into the project in unique and unexpected ways.

We love taking a clients initial ideas about how they want their project to look and giving exactly what they asked for but in ways they had never imagined.

After working for large Architecture firms in New York City for the early part of my career, I helped create and direct store design for lifestyle retailers, Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters, based in Philadelphia. I had always done small projects on the side and in 2014 finally had enough private clients that allowed me to start my own firm.

We are a small design office, so you get personal attention and thought directly from the Principal of the firm, not someone who is right out of school.
