Hi, I'm Stuart. I'm a trainee psychotherapist, in the fourth and final year of my psychotherapy training at the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy. I'm a member of the UKCP and covered by their ethical guidelines. My decision to train as a therapist, which began with my own personal therapy nearly 10 years ago, is the fruit of a life-long interest in psychoanalysis and human nature.
Through my own therapy, I've learnt how transformative it can be to be understood, to be listened to with openness, honesty and care. I try to create a space in which it's safe to look at the parts of ourselves that are difficult to accept. In this way, therapy is a process of self-understanding. But I believe that therapy must also foster a deep emotional understanding between people, inside and outside the therapy room.
In my practice, I've helped clients work through painful issues like depression, relationship-breakdown, communication difficulties, disturbances in intimacy, anxiety, obsessive modes of thinking, anger, self-destructive impulses, poor self-esteem and emotional dysregulation. These issues have their origin in our early lives and early relationships, and I aim to provide a space in which old restrictive patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour can be worked through, understood and, most importantly, changed.
Feel free to drop me a text, email or to give me a ring. I'm happy to discuss the issues with you on the phone free of charge, to answer any questions you may have before we book an initial session. My therapy room is in central Chorlton. I hope to hear from you!
