Having almost been flooded through incessant rain in February, to within 1/2 inch of the air bricks, I called in two drain clearing firms as an emergency to flush out the storm water drainage systems. This was without success. Pine needles, and silt run off from the farmers ploughed fields sown with Turnips (Swedes) seems to have created a blockage that could not be penetrated.I had used Struan's firm the previous year to renew field drainage and to tarmac the stone strewn driveway. I contacted him again to see what solutions he could propose. With the farmers approval, the field boundary with my property was re profiled so that run off from the field would be channelled into a large conduit bypassing by boundary and diverting the flow into a natural run off channel leading into the Cromarty Firth. As the storm water channel blockage was somewhere beyond an area that could be easily exposed (covered by two sheds and sculptured garden raised beds, it was proposed to insert a T junction to divert the flow into the field to discharge at the same point as the where the large conduit comes above ground. This work could not be done as access to the farmers field was necessary, and it had been sown with barley that was already growing.Once the barley had been harvested, and the straw baled and removed, Struan completed the diversion work, refilling the access holes and the channel needed under the hedge and wire fence, and retying the fence where it had to be severed. All work was performed with as little disruption as possible, and could hardly be noticed once complete.During the summer months, Struan's Landscaping removed existing lock block, laid fresh packed stone sub-base, and laid fresh lock blocks on a sand foundation; a wonderful improvements to what was done previously 21 years ago.Importantly, final Invoices were never greater than had been estimated.
