I used Stirling Ackroyd Legal recently for the purchase of a new house but of particular interest for this review, a really quite difficult sale. My solicitor, Rey Caliskan, was genuinely fantastic - personable, patient and the quality of her work was tremendous. I understand the communication concerns that I've read, but I came to understand that this was more a function of the fact that if there was no update to give there was no need to necessarily communicate it. Frustrating with obvious asymmetries of information and on reflection maybe something their front of house staff could communicate better to clients. Our flat purchase was handled by Peter and Reyhan. They did a great job all along the process, checking and explaining every step clearly. They were hard working, diligent, and understanding. The sale of my house was handled very swift and professionally handled by Zara Bhavnani. I was kept informed every time there was any exchange of emails, this may not seem relevant to some, but can prove to be very useful if the conveyancer acting for the other partie makes random claims of already provided documentation not being submitted etc. Zara answered the phone and dealt with all concerns raised every time I called, again this may seem trivial, but just getting a conveyancing company to answer the phone, let alone getting through to the individual handling your sale or purchase is a rarity.Very pleased with the service. Dear readers I wish to share my experience with this law firm. First of all I am a Russian national doing business in Dubai. I met the CEO and his team at City scape property convention last year. This year I decided to buy a portfolio of properties commercial and residential in Cambridge. I sought Mr Ahmed’s advice and was automatically received with positive attitude, attention to detail and advice. I had 2 initial meetings in Dubai for which I was not charged. I was allocated a team of 2 Solicitors (I understand this is the same as an attorney or lawyer). Both my lawyers were fantastic from inception. They negotiated the deal on my behalf and as such saved me almost £600k in tax and stamp duty alone!! Instead of buying the assets we decided to buy the company which was much easier and financially better. Immediately the team produced a shopping list of questions for the seller. They did thorough aggressive due diligence over the course of 5 weeks and executed the deal in an orderly fashion. I am now taking their advice on other ongoing business and commercial mergers in relation to the same asset. I can not thank them enough for all their support and enthusiasm. I have always found English lawyers to be very very expensive and hard to communicate with, but not this company. I was given fixed fees from our first meeting and was not charged hourly which I think is simply ridiculous!!Anyway I would recommend to anyone and everyone especially if you are an expat or international client living abroad. I found sterling legal through a price comparison site after we had an offer accepted on our house and our offer accepted on another. Having not done this for awhile we were unsure what to expect. Both estate agents tried to get us to use their solicitors and both were extremely expensive, obviously. We were under some time pressure but from start to finish Stirling ackroyd were great. We were looked after by James Shepherd who was frankly amazing. I would even receive emails on a Sunday from him. He was always one step ahead of the other solicitors in the chain which was great for us and kept the pressure on other people rather than us. Can’t thank him enough for his help.
