Shayne is truly talented as a trainer. We have her to thank for giving us our family and our sanity back. Â After an unsuccessful experience at "puppy board and train," our 9 month old goldendoodle was crate adverse, destructive, jumpy, and lacked all impulse control and manners. With a newborn and toddler at home, we were considering rehoming him with family for a year unless things improved. Â That was when we found Shayne. Â She explained the reasons behind our dog's behaviors and that her board and train option with the e-collar would be best. Â After completing her in-home board and train program (all conducted personally by her), Shayne thoroughly explained all commands, follow-up, etc. Â She also texted us everyday checking-in on how things were going once our dog returned home and offering additional advice. Shayne is absolutely amazing! She turned around our impulsive Collie who was having issues adjusting to moving away from the country. Within one session we saw huge improvements- I can finally take him for a walk without having my arm nearly yanked off! Shayne also had no problem including my son in sessions so he was able to learn to interact :) overall the ability to change the dynamics of our relationship have been a huge bonus to our home. We are bringing home a new Dane puppy to train for my specific service needs and I am so excited to see what magic she can work with this little(big) guy. Vinnie was out of control and we were fed up. He would not listen, guarded his food, harassed my other animals and eliminated in inappropriate places. I contacted several local dog training services and Shayne was welcoming and knowledgeable from the beginning. She came to our home and spent time talking to us about our concerns. We were never rushed and felt comfortable sending him for the Board and Train. Highly recommend this program but if it is not in your budget, she does offer private in home sessions. Shayne truly is a "Star Maker"!!! Our Duke was all over the place and socially in everyone's face, but thanks to Shayne we are now able to take Duke to the vet, the pet stores, and to Home Depot with absolutely NO ISSUES!
We have had several outings now that have made us believers of the board and train experience. We took Duke to the vet and was able to request a sit and stay and down and stay with all sorts of activity and traffic of people and pets to distract. He was terrific!!!
What a relief, as we were at our wits end with him and his stubborn streak. In public places he would pull, demand his way and scare people and pets by rushing up to them. At home he would jump on guests and suffered separation anxiety, and would pull on the leash.
Thanks Shayne for restoring our sanity and turning it back into a Happy Home for our us and our pets!! :)

Shayne is such an amazing trainer! She helped me train my dog, Kaiser. She has a ton of knowledge and experience. She has also watched Kaiser for me when I've had to go out of town. I feel 100% confident when leaving my baby at her house because she makes him feel like he's staying the night at a friends house. Shayne is the real deal! i approached her with the Herculean task of training an adult female Akita with no previous training experience. I was relieved to find Shayne has a vast knowledge of all different breeds so she was prepared for the challenge. She's thorough in explaining her techniques and the why they work to help you and your dog meet your training goals. She even helped me think of ways to modify hand signals to accommodate my physical limitations! Shayne was great with our dog, Chef. And she fully grantees her service. Upon his return, after a month or so we were going backwards and it didn't seem that the training was 'sticking'. I'm sure more because of my not doing the right things (as a first time dog owner, didn't really know the do's and don'ts). I highly recommend Star Maker to anyone who has issues with their dog’s behavior! While my dog has always been a sweet and playful dog, he was impulsive and ran towards open doors, other dogs, and people.
I am able to not only control my 100 lb German Shepherd on a leash, but I can also let him off leash with great recall, even if he sees other dogs and wants to sprint after them. He is so well behaved and I couldn’t be happier! Today, two ladies even asked me if I would sell him �
Shayne Woods and Stephen are amazing at what they do, and they are reasonable and understanding folks. 5 star dog trainer. Our German Shepard puppy had MAJOR behavior problems. We tried everything!!!! Our puppy is completely different and I feel like as it's owner I can trust her again! Was worried about investing so much money in the board and train, especially for a first time pet owner. But it was worth every penny! So thankful for Shayne and all of her hard work!! Boarded my 8 month old dog with Star Maker Dog Training for a 1 month training program. Our dog came back truely able to demonstrate nice behaviors and obedience. We have received so many compliments about how well behaved our dog is, especially out in public. Â We can now take her many places I would not dare try a month ago. And she now has obtained her "Good Canine Citizen" certificate after her one on one training with Shane. Shane is very knowledgeable as to training techniques that prove very effective for our furry family member Sadie. I am so glad to have found Star Maker Dog Training. Training with Shayne is definitely worth the investment. Â I am a new pet owner and wanted my Shih-Tzu/Maltese (Tubby) to be well-behaved. At first, when Tubby was old enough I enrolled her in a six-week class at one of the well-known pet stores. The training at the well-known pet store was ok but I felt like Tubby could have learned more, she was still extra hyper, and she had problems walking on a leash. Now, I know that the quality of training services is dependent on person training; however, if I were to compare classes at the well-known pet store to Star Maker Dog Training.... Star Maker Dog Training would win my vote.What's different about my dog is that she is not necessarily food-motivated. Â Shayne helped me learn how to work with my hyper/play-motivated dog. In the small group class, in addition to learning a variety of commands, I learned how to work on ensuring that my dog would listen to me even when a lot of distractions were all around us. Shayne also helped me work with Tubby so that Tubby would be able to walk nicely on leash (which was a dream come true for me). What was also amazing was that we also did drills off-leash and Tubby did not run away and she actually listened to me (I never thought that would ever be possible). If I did not take Tubby to Star Maker Dog Training I would imagine that she would be all over the place. On a side-note, I also had Tubby boarded for a weekend with Star Maker Dog Training since I was going out-of-town. Shayne took great care of Tubby. We were so lucky to find Shayne in our quest for a dog trainer! Â We had recently adopted a Pit/Great Dane mix from a rescue shelter, only to find out that our homeowner's insurance company would be dropping us for an "ineligible dog". Â They informed us that we need to obtain an AKC Canine Good Citizenship certificate before they would reinstate us. Â We knew our dog wasn't a threat to society, but it was time to prove it to everyone else. Â While Sheeba is a giant love-bug, she is also a little hard-headed and we were in dire need of someone to show us how to train her. Â Then we found Shayne! Â Sheeba took to her immediately, and Shayne was able to show us exactly what we needed to do to get our stubborn dog to listen and obey. Â It was almost like magic! Â Within the first session, our dog (and us!) learned how to do three new commands and we were hooked. Shayne is absolutely amazing with dogs...I adopted a blue nose pit puppy named him Monster. He was about 12 weeks old with mange. .. Great dog.. got along well with the family.. He was fixed about 6 months old... as he gets order the more out of control he gets...Well Monster is now a year old. I was in the process of finding him a new home when I met Shayne by chance on a facebook post through a mutual friend...I am ever so greatful definitely a God sent to our family! Monster had chewed all the sprinkler wires....chewed all the cable wires connected to our home...He ate the water hose... He ate the wood pillars on our back porch.... He ate my kids tetter totter including the wood seats!! Monster has dug so many landmines in my back yard it's not even funny.... He was currently on lock down because he wants my neighbors puppy so bad he has dug and ate the fence... He had this horrible habit of jumping and nipping/biting. .. my kids were not allowed outside alone because he was so hyper he would knock them over to bite them... I'm sure I forgot a few things... Needless to Say Monster was the Devil....We had given up any hope and decided he would be better off with someone else. .Let me just tell you after one session with Shayne...Monster no longer jumps or nips... He sits...He lays down... He will leave a treat until I allow him to eat it...He goes for a walk!! I walk him he does not walk me... before the only way he would walk was with a shock collar... Shayne is always available and probably sick of my million and one messages a day...I don't know where Monster would be had it not been for Shayne... What do you love most about your job?
For most people, having a trained dog is something that makes their relationship with their pet more enjoyable. In some cases, however, it goes far beyond this. In those cases, training is the last hope before the dog is re-homed or given up, because the owners can not longer handle the behavior and/or it poses a safety hazard in their home. When I can truly help these special cases, and hear my clients tell me that I saved their dog and their household, it makes all the struggles of this job worth it.
What inspired you to start your own business?
There was truly a need for private trainers who could address a number of issues within the client's home or a targeted environment. I was working as a trainer for a well know pet store and was frustrated with the numerous clients who came through their doors needing my help, but in a different setting and with a different approach. Being bound to the store and its policies, there was little I could do to help these cases other than try to work with them in sessions at the store, which often was far from the ideal environment needed for dogs with severe behavioral issues. I wanted to take on more training cases, help more people and dogs, and do it my way.
Why should our clients choose you?
My entire life reflects my true passion for dogs and my lifelong dedication to them. Not only is dog training my career, it is also my lifestyle. I have been training and competing with dogs for almost 20 years. I own 5 dogs myself and compete in a number of dog sports with them. My home is tailored to the comfort and safety of the dogs in our care, both my own and client dogs. My daily schedule is tailored around the dogs in my care and their needs always come first. Client dogs are treated with the same care, respect and dedication that our own dogs receive.
Anybody can do a course of study and bookwork and call themselves a "dog trainer" but I have two decades of actual hands on experience, training dogs of all breeds, ages, sizes, and temperaments. I have an always expanding wealth of knowledge and resources to tackle even the most difficult behaviors and achieve positive results.
Chances are, the problems you are having with your dog are something I've dealt with countless times before. I can offer solutions that are effective and easy to apply, and can customize the approach to your dog. All dogs are unique, and my extensive experience has taught me that trying to apply one methodology or quadrant of training to all dogs will limit your ability to help them. I always train the dog in front of me and create an approach that will best fit his temperament and his owner's needs.
In addition to two decades of hands-on experience, I also have a college education as a veterinary technican, am CPR certified for canines, and am an AKC certified Canine Good Citizen evaluator.
