We booked St Augustine's recently for our end of year corporate party... and what a party!! Specia mention to the Events Staff, Helen and Kieran in particular, were extremely helpful and nothing was too much effort for them. They ensured that the evening went smoothly and we didn't have to worry about a thing! The venue is absolutely stunning and the food as great considering there was over 150 of us. We got married at St Augustine’s at the weekend. What can I say what a fabulous venue. Kieran took the reins last minute as our wedding Coordinator and what an absolutely fantastic guy he was. We cannot speak highly enough of him. Whatever we asked for was done, last minute changes were made without any issues at all nothing was too much trouble for him. He went above and beyond even delivered my wedding cake to my home the following day! All the staff very good and always very friendly. I have no complaints at all. We held our works annual dinner for around 80 people on Friday 7 June 2019. Our theme was “The Great Gatsby” so we decided to use “The Chapel” room. Our event co-ordinator and her team did us proud. From start to finish she was there at the end of the phone or email answering our various questions and queries. We visited the venue a handful of times to go through with our event co-ordinator what we wanted to do and arranging everything from menu choice, wine, layout of room, decorations and she had so many ideas and suggestions as well to help make our dinner a brilliant one. A venue was beautiful, full of character and charm. We had a wonderful evening, the food and the service was very good and staff organised, friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of room for everyone to enjoy socialising, dancing or relaxing in an area away from the DJ should they wish. The bar service was good and again room to move as it was in an area on it's own but still near enough for everyone to still be socialising. We got married on bank holiday Sunday in August last year!! It was literally the best day ever!! Kieran was our coordinator and we could not have asked for a better person! ! He literally became more of a friend. He went out of his way and nothing was too much!! He even organised sandwiches for the bridal suite while we were getting ready and plenty of gin and Prosecco!! The day went without a hitch despite the weather being torrential rain, we could not have wished for anything more!! I work here so am a little biased, but it is, without a doubt. the most amazing venue to hold what ever wedding you choose. There are so many different variants all dependant on your individual requirements, weather based on budget, needs or your childhood dreams. We had the perfect wedding. Run so smoothly.. Ask for keiran (wedding Co ordinator) nothing was too much and was so hassle free. .. Memories we will treasure forever.. Only thing is had some feedback from guests and the main 3 course wasn't all that.... Don't order the duck.Rooms and settings are perfect and I think they offer discounted wedding packages for evening weddings. If you haven't been to a wedding here,. 5 Star We had our Twilight Wedding yesterday at St Augustine’s..........everything was perfect. From the first meeting we knew we were in good hands. My daughter and now son-in-law held their wedding here. This former Benedictine Monastery caters for Civil Weddings, so our ceremony was divided into two, the first half being Civil and then the chapel being turned back into a church for the Christian half presided by a retired priest. The staff were very helpful and worked tirelessly to make the wedding perfect. The main downside was a problem with sound, as the usual wedding manager was off unwell, and the stand-in person wasn't aware of how to run the microphones and sound system. This meant quiet a few people couldn't hear what was being said at the alter. All in all though, full credit to the staff who worked their socks off and managed all of the timing perfectly. Although a sad ocassions, the staff and venue made the wake of a dear family member bearable. We arranged for friends and family to meet at the lounge bar. Kelly and Amanda had made a great job co-ordinating the afternoon and the food was wonderful. Great spacious venue with loads of character and extremely good value for money! Parking is easy, cars can be left overnight. They were very thorough with the planning and the day went like clockwork, except for one thing! I attended my niece's wedding recently (August 2018) and whilst I feel that St. Augustines Abbey is such a beautiful place for both the wedding and reception of couples, with good staff and would recommend them for the able bodied. As a disabled person and self propelled wheelchair user, along with another lady on the day who needed help with her wheelchair, I do not think enough is being done to accommodate us. I like to stay as independent as I can without the need to have to ask for help unless vital. On first arrival I could see stairs at the entrance and no ramp. I had to send a family member in to ask for help to gain access into the building. I also found this to be the case in nearly every room including the chapel and on the outside grounds when having pictures taken. At one point I needed the ladies (toilet) and was trapped inside the reception hall for a good while, waiting at the door feeling very exposed and embarrassed whilst my son tried to find a staff member to again return with the ramps as they kept disappearing. Also the ramps that were used were not heavy duty and one was broken in the middle, this is a health & safety issue and these ramps should be rectified immediately. I also found the grab rail in the disabled toilets to be very loose and starting to come away from the wall. I understand that the building is old, but this is 2018 updated and adequate adaptions should of been made for the disabled by now. I urge any staff member/owner to sit in a wheelchair and take a look around the building have someone take you up and down the ramps you have, try them single handed and experience how frightening the steepness is . Not only does this make this lovely venue impossible for disabled couples to wed, but also excludes their families from experiencing a stress/anxiety free day. More...
