Sola Photography is the passion of Wiltshire based photographer Emma Law (me). I specialise in family, rural, event and wedding photography and for the past ten years, my passion has been noticing the moment and capturing it forever.
I love working with people especially those who don’t usually like having their photograph taken, making them feel at ease and getting those candid, touching or even funny moments that they can then treasure forever.

Myself and my little boy who is now 7 had the most amazing hour's photo shoot with Emma. Emma made us both feel really comfortable, and made it fun for my little boy who had a great time, and said how much he enjoyed doing his poses! We got some great photos, and they made a great present for our family for Christmas. The best thing was that we got all the photos on a USB which no other photographer does, and we got an amazing video compilation of our photos with music in a beautifully presented box which was totally unexpected. Emma did the photos at my parents' surprise anniversary party and I couldn't be happier with them. She started by taking a photo of every guest as they entered so we have memories of everyone one who was there, and then she managed to capture the moment of my mum and dad walking through the door while we shouted surprise. Emma was amazing! If you want natural beautiful pictures she is the lady for the job!Emma has such great ideas! Emma has such an amazing talent for capturing ‘moments’ which is exactly what you want! Whether it's your wedding day, a birthday, a pregnancy photoshoot and more! It's not always the formal photos that remind you how great a day was – it’s the natural fun and excitement that is so important to be documented. Our band Thieves’ Kitchen made the right choice when we approached Sola Photography for the photoshoot to accompany our last album release.
We spent a thoroughly enjoyable day with Emma taking portrait and group shots in several locations, and her easy manner, kindness and professionalism made the experience a truly relaxed and joyful one. Emma's passion and energy shines through in her photographs, and she produced a remarkable set of images that demonstrate a real understanding of her craft and her skill for capturing the moment. They not only look great, they make us look great - not an easy task!
The photos were perfect for our international press releases, media coverage, website and inside-album artwork. Speaking as camera-shy performers who nevertheless have gritted our teeth through countless photoshoots over the decades, we were delighted with both the experience and the product; we simply cannot recommend Emma highly enough. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
I always tell my clients that there's no secret - everyone can take a great photograph but making your subject(s) feel at ease, happy, relaxed and safe is the way to ensure that the resulting image really captures them and their personality. That's what makes something truly special - when you can actually relate to the person in the picture and see that it really is their own self shining through.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I always ask clients what they are expecting from the shoot and what the photos will be used for, as well as discussing any fears or reservations that they may have about being in front of a camera. We will discuss locations, timescales and budget and put together a tailored package that suits their requirements exactly, perhaps giving them even more than they anticipated.
What do you love most about your job?
For me, the best part of the job is being trusted by the most amazing people to capture their day, their personality or their request, and provide it to them in a way that makes them smile. It's always an honour to be involved even in some small way in the reason behind the requirement to have a photographer in the first place and so when a client is happy with the results, that makes it even better. Happy clients, that's what we like.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've been involved in photography for at least a decade now and what started off as a passion became a business very quickly. Clients like my work, my approach and the fact that there are no hidden extras, no unwelcome charges and all edited photographs are included in the package as part of the deal. I don't believe in charging clients extra for the photographs once they have been taken; it didn't seem ethical and so being able to offer something different to the market was a driving force behind Sola Photography.
Why should our clients choose you?
When a client chooses me, it's a huge honour. Many people hate having their photograph taken - many won't even look at a camera, so it's my job to build that rapport, be as friendly and professional as possible and make sure that what the client is expecting is what is delivered. If I can deliver more, than that's even better.
