This thanksgiving I ordered a Cajun fried turkey and Smitty really made a delicious juicy turkey and was very accommodating with the pickup! What a wonderful surprise this evening.  Walking through North Park I caught a smell of BBQ.  It appeared to come from Torque Moto.  I walked in to ask if they started serving BBQ.  That's when I met Smitty and learned about Smitty's Taste of the Bayou.  Now I have had BBQ from all over the U.S and lets face it California is not a powerhouses when it comes to BBQ.  Smitty is trying to change that. I ordered the combo plate which with 2 ribs, 1/4 of chicken, Mac & Cheese and Green beans.  I started with the Mac & Cheese and it was AMAZING! The ribs had a amazing homemade bbq sauce.  The chicken was smoked to perfection and the green beans was out of this world. Went here tonight for my mom's birthday dinner. I got the combo plate: ribs, chicken, green beans, and dirt rice. Both meats were tender and moist. Usually bbq chicken can be dry, but no hint of that at all with Smitty's chicken. The sauce was delicious and not overbearing. The smokiness of the meats added even more greatness to the flavor already there. The green beans were the best I've had. Flavorful, not salty, and the juice from the beans at the bottom was just as good. The dirty rice was amazing as well. Most rice dishes lack in flavor where this was the complete opposite. The touch of spiciness was just enough to not overwhelm the other ingredients. Everyone left full and happy with enough for delicious leftovers tomorrow. What's even better is it is a Veteran owned company and Smitty was very friendly with a great sense of humor. I will definitely be coming back soon to try the other rotating menu options. I went for the first time and when I tell you the food was sooo amazing. I got the bbq chicken plate with Mac and Cheese and green beans and when I tell you the chicken was soo tender and good and well seasoned. The Mac and cheese was sooo good it wasn't dry and you can taste the seasoning one the green beans. Also Smitty makes you feel right at home very friendly and clean and when you sit there he checks on you to make sure everything's ok. My friend & I shared their chicken/rib combo plate with green beans & "dirty rice".  The meats were beautifully made & delicious, but I am going to gush about their sides:  the green beans had a hint of acidity, a hint of smoke, & a hint of sweetness.  Addictive!  I have never had dirty rice, but it seems to be a tasty, meaty rice dish.  Their food is reasonably priced, generous in portion, & served by very likeable people. Came In right at 3pm to grab some of this BBQ goodness I've heard about. Smitty is such a down to earth dude, really enjoyed the vibes as much as the food. I ordered the 2 rib plate w/beer. It came with two sides(collard greens and Mac n cheese). Portion size was perfect and the flavors were excellent! He serves catfish on Fridays! Will definitely come back to give that a try! The greens were SO GOOD which is the first thing i try at bbq places. Like a lot of places can have a good sauce but can't deliver on the greens. i got the quarter chicken plate and my boyfriend got the 3 rib plate, that day the sides were greens (as mentioned) and mac and cheese. I would have gotten the gumbolaya but I also wanted to try the ribs and chicken and he can't eat crab. Their bbq is really good, the chicken was cooked perfectly and so were the ribs. Very well sauced but not drippy. The mac and cheese also has like a seasoning spice mix in it which was good.The staff there was really nice and the outdoor eating area is very spacious, you can fit a large or small party very easily. By far some of the best bbq you can have in SD. I arrived pretty early but was still greated with a warm welcome and good conversation. The chef is a very pleasant person to speak with and he makes the services what it's supposed to be enjoyable and personal. Now for the real deal the food, let me tell you it was finger licking good. Smitty's is the perfect place to go when you want some taste of home.  The COMBO (2 ribs and 1/4 leg chicken)  was amazing!  The flavors of the BBQ RIBS  was sticky and sweet and fall of the bone goodness! The CHICKEN was cooked perfectly moist and smoky-ring pink. The GREEN BEANS were off the hook! ... and the DIRTY RICE was a perfect side, the rice was fluffy, full of flavor and balanced with the perfect amount of meat and seasonings. You will definitely want to double up on the order next time! I called the number listed to make sure we can sit and dine. I was told that they'd take me food anywhere I wanted lol the food was delicious. Smitty was cooking it up and chatting with us a bit. When he delivered the food he said he hooked us up and waited for us to see the food... in the words of my 4 year old it was, "Woooooow". This place is actually located inside of Torque moto cafe. We was trying to find good barbecue for late lunch and this place killed it. Smitty and the owner of torque moto cafe were very nice to us. We had rib plate and gumbalaya(gumbo+jambalaya). Seriously, the gumbalaya was everything!!
