We have had our dog for 7 years and just had our first child. Our dog did not appreciate the new focus of our attention and became jealous. We chose this company for training because of the good reviews. Our initial meeting was with Sean, who is fantastic. The next session, we had Ashley (the owner). She was unprofessional, and abrasive. We were initially willing to look the other way, however during a training session with Ashley, she dragged our dog against the lead on pavement. She simply stated “he knows how to make the discomfort stop”. He was limping for several days after this session.

Fast forward to our 5th session (which lasted 15 minutes), and she “corrected'' him quite abruptly, the second time, she “corrected” him so hard, he pooped himself. We asked her to take it easy to which she replied “excuse me”? I asked her to take it easy on him, as he’s an older dog, and was limping for several days after our last training session. Her response was where everything went south. She stated that she’s an expert, and has been training dogs for years, and we were going to have to reschedule. After a brief pause, she stated: “You know what, I’m just going to have to recommend another trainer for you”, and proceeded to show us the door. All because we asked her to take it easy on an older dog. We understand that dogs need corrections, however when a dog is limping from training, and then soils himself from a “correction” we had to draw the line. We would have still been willing to work with her, but after that response to what should have been a simple conversation, we knew any attempt at moving forward would be futile.

After making an attempt to cut our losses, paying $2000, and only receiving 4 and a quarter training sessions, the owner refused to issue a refund stating that after half or more sessions had been given, that no refunds were issued. We're out the money, and never actually achieved what we set out to accomplish from the beginning. I seriously advise you to think twice before choosing this establishment.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, Michael. From our perspective things happened differently but we do not want to argue. You DID receive a refund after not putting in any work with your dog over 5/7 lessons and wasting our time. Shaun requested that Ashley do that lesson specifically because you weren't doing your work at home as instructed. On the 5th lesson, the first thing that was said was "we didn't practice much this past week." Which means the lesson that day was a waste of time foing over the same lesson for the 3rd time. On lesson 5 we were still working on lesson 2 due to no follow through happening at home. Ashley offered to refer you to another trainer that may be able to work with you in a way that you're more comfortable with and she was met with anger from the male owner and silence from the female owner. We do not offer refunds for going through more than half of our lessons and then changing your mind which is clearly stated in the contract that you signed. We wish Finnegan and your family luck in training and in life.

10/10 would recommend this training facility! Ashley and her team are wonderful! The training is definitely hard (mostly for us humans). But it has been so worth it! I have seen such a change in my dog and that’s saying a lot since she’s six and very much was stuck in her ways. This team and their hard work and patience is so worth it! I can’t say enough great things about this staff and the owner! If you need help they will be there! More...

Can’t say enough good things about Ashley and the staff at Barks & Rec. I was determined to not have a stereotypical “yappy” Pomeranian. I now have a dog I can trust in public and I constantly get compliments on how well behaved he is. The best part? He does all of this without treats which is so important in making sure my little guy stays safe. I’ve felt so supported through this entire process and could not have done it without Ashley’s support and guidance. The upfront cost can be a bit of a hit, but it leaves you with a companion that you can take anywhere with you for years to come. More...

Ashley worked a small miracle on my shepherd Squall. I was honestly considering re-homing him before he went to her boot camp. Now he's mostly a different dog (unfortunately he remains a puppy and a moron, and no amount of training will fix either of those). Either way I'm now confident that when the puppy part wears off he'll be a good (if still dumb) dog. More...

Our GSD puppy, Romeo, was in dire need of training due to our lack of knowledge and know how. Ashley was highly recommended to us by the Vet and vet techs at the Bansfield Vet Clinic in Anne Arundel Mills. We contacted Ashley and set up a consultation. We had already had two other consults with other trainers at this point and after meeting with Ashley, we knew immediately she was the one for Romeo & for us. You can not train a dog without training the human. Romeo already new some basics such as sit. Romeo still has a few quirks a year after his/our training but he/we work daily on the training Ashley taught us. Today, Romeo will sit/stay and I can walk several hundred feet away without him moving until he is commanded to come. He "places" on random objects on command. He knows high five, right paw, left paw, down, belly, most times he will sit at every corner when walking without being commanded to sit. We can't thank Ashley enough for teaching us tools we needed to give Romeo a happier and healthier life.

Our pup Olivia (Livy) is a half lab/half shepherd mix full of energy and smart as can be. Ashley has done a fantastic job training her and giving her the skills and manners any owner would be thrilled to have in their pup. Actually, Ashley has far exceeded our expectations. Livy was a private/board client and stayed with Ashley for a little over 2 weeks. The day she came home I was blown away. She responded to commands quickly and was so well behaved. Before training Livy was very difficult to walk, full of energy, jumping, nipping at my legs, etc...now I can not only walk Livy with ease, I can walk her with my older lab Bella as well. Life has been great! In addition to the boarding and training sessions, we hear from Ashley regularly to check on Livy and she is always ready to help with any questions we may have. She is well worth every penny we paid! It has been a blessing to have such a knowledgable, respectful, caring and just nice as can be trainer. If I could give her 10 stars I would. After just one training session we saw progress while walking on a leash (no more pulling!) Now both dogs are able to walk on a heel without us even holding their leashes! I highly recommend Smashingly Respectful to get the most out of training for both you and your dog. More...

Q&As

I have always been passionate about helping animals. Helping people and their dogs and watching the progress from their first lesson to graduation gives me a sense of purpose in life. Creating confident, well-behaved dogs is my favorite thing and it's why I love coming to work every day.

I worked in veterinary medicine for 15 years. I began by working with our veterinary clients to improve their dogs' behavior and realized that training is where my passion lay. Once I knew that training dogs was what I was meant to do, I transitioned from helping veterinary clients on the side to beginning my own training business, and I have been helping people and their dogs ever since.

The training methods we use at Limitless Canines go beyond teaching sit, stay, and lie down. We combine many different techniques to individualize the program for the dog and owner. Our process creates a reliable, secure dog who will be able to relax and ignore stressful surroundings because he has faith in you to handle any situation. Our training gives you a dog you can have as a solid companion wherever you go.

Yes! Our K9 Konnection Virtual Academy is an 8-week program completed entirely over Zoom. It consists of all the same lessons as our private tutoring program and works well for those who are isolating or live far from the facility.

We haven't had to make any adjustments for COVID-19 because we were already following the mandates prior to the pandemic! We teach dogs by teaching their owners, which means you are doing the physical work with your dog. We give you direction, but unless we are passing dogs off, we will be much further than 6 feet at all times.

Services

If you're looking to get your dog started off on the right paw, signing up for the most popular program will be exactly what you're looking for to help with all of your training and behavior needs. Your dog will stay in my home and added to our daily routine with multiple training sessions.

Private Lessons involve intimate understanding of your animal's natural and individual history. Your dog has plenty of potential to learn and understand commands, and my techniques will lay the foundation for you to build upon.

Puppies need a LOT of time and work to make sure that you have a rock star of a dog when they grow up. Waking up every couple of hours for potty training. Trying to sleep through your puppies cries while trying to acclimate to the kennel. The puppy biting, the chewing, the potty accidents. And that's not even starting to touch on the actual obedience and puppy handling for baths and nail trims. There's so much to do and you don't know where to start! Let me help you get that perfect dog!

No time to train your dog? This is the program for you. With our day training program you can drop your dog off as early as 9 am and pick up by 6 pm. In this program your dog will learn all their basic obedience skills as well as proper manners and boundaries. Kamp K9 is in session 4 days a week for 3 weeks and includes 30 minute weekly meetings to discuss your dog’s behavior and review any new skills.

Forget the mess and let us help get your puppy off to a head start. With this two week board and train program we will introduce common handling, crate train, and potty train your puppy.

So you can’t make it to the training center in person. Maybe you live too far or are maintaining quarantine; whatever the case, our trainers can still guide you through the process of working with your dog. Two - 30 minute lessons weekly for 8 weeks held via Zoom.
