SLH Counselling & Psychosensory Therapies Q&A

Company Q&A

What do you love most about your job?

I have worked with people all of my life, in nursing, the criminal justice system and counselling/therapy. I meet new people every day, and feel honoured that I am trusted with their personal thoughts and feelings.
Working in counselling also means that I have been able to diversify - so I am able to work in many different fields - supporting people with a wide range of issues.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Starting my own business was natural progression really - it means that I can work with many different issues, instead of being tied to what an agency is able to offer or deliver. I am able to work with ‘the big picture’ as apposed to just elements of it - as we are all part of a bigger picture and it is unhelpful to just focus on one part of it.

Why should our clients choose you?

I have many years of experience, including working within the NHS, the Prison Service, and many different counselling agencies - both paid and as a volunteer.
I have been told that I am easy to talk to, I don’t judge, and I am very flexible - both with my counselling style and appointments.
I am supportive, a passionate believer in the power of change, and above all, honest.

Tapping deactivates the underlying unresolved emotional stresses and/or limiting beliefs that triggered your body into the stress response. First, this calms the body and you feel better. Then, as we address all related stresses, whatever’s not working properly gets back into balance. But most importantly, once the original unresolved emotional charge is gone, the stress pattern in the body is released for ever. Positive life-force energy (chi) can flow freely as it should, can nourish all the parts of your body, and you will return naturally to well-being. If you’ve hit a wall in some part of your life, unconscious fears, anxieties or limiting beliefs are likely holding you back. Unconscious fears or beliefs show up as: Worries about almost anything, including being visible, being judged, public speaking, social/performance anxiety Procrastinating, giving up before you even get started, writer’s block/creativity blocks Relationship difficulties Feeling paralysed or like you have “no way out” Overwhelm or repeating negative patterns No matter what has been hard for you, believe this: you can experience freedom and ease. You can do what you want to do. You can show up differently. I do all kinds of things now that I never imagined I’d be able to do. I feel differently in relationships. And I’m still growing. Tapping and Instant Pain Relief: How and Why It Works So Fast When a muscle is chronically tensed, lactic acid causes the muscle fibres to contract and go into seizure. Tension accumulates at certain points in the body, and these “pressure points” are the areas where acupressure works most effectively. Tapping can relieve this muscular tension almost instantly by working with pressure points. Relieving the tension allows the fibres to relax and elongate…and as a result, blood flows more freely and white blood cells flush out stored toxins.Tapping Gives You the Power to Heal Yourself The basic technique of tapping involves focusing on the problem at hand—physical pain, fear or anxiety, a bad memory, or any unresolved problem. While focusing on this issue to be resolved, you use your fingertips to tap 5-7 times each on 12 of the body’s meridian points (on the head, face, and upper body). When you tap these meridian points while concentrating on accepting and resolving the negative emotion, you stimulate and re-balance your body’s energy. Although tapping uses the same meridian points as acupuncture, it has at least 4 superior advantages: It requires NO needles and is completely painless It can be learned by anyone in just a few minutes, while acupuncture takes many years to learn You can apply it to yourself whenever you want, wherever you are It is inexpensive and much less time consuming Tapping EFT therapy gives you the power to heal yourself, putting control over your destiny back into your own hands. Your body is more powerful than you can imagine…filled with life, energy, and a compelling ability for self-healing. eft therapy When you learn tapping at the Tapping World Summit (which you can “attend” in the comfort of your own home), you can take control of that power. Impressive Clinical Research Results with Tapping/ EFT Therapy Tapping/ EFT therapy is highly researched and well proven. Numerous clinical studies on tapping/ EFT therapy have produced very impressive results. Here are just a few tapping applications that have been proven in recent studies: Elimination of Pain & Physical Symptoms—including fibromyalgia and seizure disorders Promoting Weight Loss & Minimising Food Cravings Alleviating Anxiety/Depression/Emotional Challenges—including the reduction of public speaking anxiety, psychological trauma in veterans, long-term psychological symptoms, test anxiety in university students and bereavement issues Enhancing Athletic Performance Eliminating Phobias—including the reduction of intense fears Eliminating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

What is Energy Psychology?

Energy is the blueprint, the infrastructure, the invisible foundation for the health of your body. Your body is composed of energy pathways and energy centres that are in a dynamic interplay with your cells, organs, moods, and thoughts. If you can shift these energies you can shift your health, emotions, and state of mind… Building on conventional therapeutic modals, Energy Psychology utilises techniques from acupressure, yoga and energy medicine that teach people simple steps for initiating changes in their inner lives. It works by stimulating energy points on the surface of the skin which, when combined with specific psychological procedures, can shift the brain’s electrochemistry to help overcome negative emotions, habits and behaviours. textWhile this is still a controversial area within the mental health field, evidence is mounting that these techniques are significant and powerful tools for both self-help and clinical treatment. Energy psychology focuses on the interrelationship of energy systems, emotion, behaviour, psychopathology and health. These systems include the electrical activity of the nervous system, acupuncture meridians, chakas and biofields. While psychological functioning includes cognitive, hormonal, neurological, genetic, neuro – chemical and environmental factors, bioenergy is involved in emotions and behaviour. Just as a radio receiver is informed at a subtle level by radio waves, subtle levels of energy influence psychological and other aspects of functioning. Energy psychology is applicable to a wide range of areas including psychotherapy, education, vocational guidance, physical health, sports and peak performance. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Thought Field Therapy (TFT) are amongst the most widely known energy therapies.

Weight loss & other issues

Weight loss & other issuesscales Emotional Freedom Excess fat is often more about feelings than food, and for many of us the two are inextricably linked. EFT is effective, easy and it works fast. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) for Weight Loss If you are an emotional eater the chances are that you will sabotage your own efforts as the emotional pull to eat is just too strong to ignore. EFT targets the emotional triggers that lead us to crave certain foods and comfort eat. These emotions are triggered by daily stress, issues from the past, a family history of obesity, limiting beliefs about your own ability to lose weight and sometimes fear of the future. Why Psy-Tap & EFT can work for you We are all born with an empty suitcase (our unconscious mind) but during our childhood we start to fill it with anything negative or upsetting that people might say or do to us – this could be teachers, friends, family or anyone – it’s all in there even if we can’t consciously remember it. As time goes on the negative load in the suitcase becomes heavier and heavier and of course we carry on dragging it around. It can eventually destroy our confidence in ourselves and hold us back from achieving our goals. When I feel anxious I eat too much When I’ve done something difficult I feel like I deserve a reward and so I eat When I feel uncomfortable in a social situation I eat all the wrong things and too many of them When I feel sad or lonely I comfort myself with food When I feel tense for an unknown reason I have a strong urge to eat If we eat when we aren’t hungry it is due to an emotional trigger. We aren’t normally aware what the trigger is but something makes us feel tense and we want to eat. In fact we can often eat and not realise until afterwards what has happened. This kind of ‘mindless’ eating keeps us overweight and on the diet treadmill. Psy-Tap & EFT is growing in popularity and is now used by thousands of doctors, psychologists and therapists worldwide. How does it work? EFT is a simple and painless form of acupressure, which involves tapping with your fingertips on key points of the face, upper body and hands. You are literally tapping into your energy meridians. In fact it is often described as acupuncture for the emotions (but without the needles). The creative use of positive statements enables you to focus during the tapping treatment on removing the emotional blocks that are driving you to comfort eat. One of the main benefits is that results are immediate and a one hour phone consultation may well be all you need to change your eating behaviour. EFT is proving very effective for weight loss and also: Stweight loss laneopping smoking Overcoming fears and phobias Anxiety and stress Cravings Addictions Pain relief … and more. So at last help is at hand if you turn to food as an emotional crutch. The ‘tapping’ bit sounds very strange and I was very skeptical myself that something so simple could work – until I tried it! Ever wondered why you overeat when you feel stressed, upset, lonely, bored or nervous in a social situation? We often overeat at these times and it’s never the broccoli or carrot sticks we reach for! Oh no, it’s always the chocolate, cake, biscuits, sweets, junk food, takeaways, pizza – everything that we know is not good for us in fact! For most of us the roots of this behaviour stem from childhood and it helps to explain why so many of us end up yo-yo dieting without really understanding why. Did your Mum or Dad give you sugary sweets or chocolate as a child as a reward for being good? Was a takeaway a family treat to get excited about? As silly as it may seem we are still at any age reaching out for the perceived comforts of home, of wanting our Mums or Dads, of wanting to be in a safe, secure environment. We want to go back to a time when we didn’t have a care in the world or any responsibilities. On the other side of the coin emotional eating can also be due to a trigger that reminds us of a past traumatic event, a bad experience, perhaps a friend, family member or teacher said or did something negative that has stayed with us ever since (sometimes this can be the cause of our overeating but we don’t even associate the two things together.) These emotional triggers have the power to sabotage our healthy eating and dieting efforts time and time again. Our perceived need for comfort when we are subconsciously reminded of a negative past experience is a very strong pull and makes food cravings impossible to resist. So – The good news is that by using EFT you can simply and easily clear away these emotional triggers and start again with a clean slate. Your subconscious mind is the ‘only’ thing coming between you and the body you would like to have. Any of these strike a chord? Call me today for support and a new way of being…………….

Post-traumatic stress disorder is a condition that is most commonly associated with war veterans, but according to the National Institute of Mental Health, the term applies to any chronic anxiety that people experience after “seeing or living through a dangerous event.” In our modern world, that covers a wide spectrum of situations, everything from car accidents to school shootings. Any insight into what makes such a large number of people who live through these events suffer from PTSD has the potential to help so many. Unfortunately, most conventional “talk” therapies require the client to remember, verbalise and discuss their memories and feelings.Alice This process and runs directly counter to the client’s powerful subconscious need to stay safe through repression, and offers only a very gradual discharge of traumatic emotions. Well meaning therapists may do more harm than good by strongly re-triggering traumatic memories and strengthening the related neural pathways. Instead of discharging the negative emotions, they become more deeply entrenched. One treatment method that has demonstrated very promising results for PTSD relief is EFT (emotional freedom techniques). EFT or “tapping” operates on the premise that all negative emotions are a disruption in the body’s energy system—the same network of energy meridians that acupuncturists use. Instead of using needles, the EFT practitioner has the client tap on specific acupuncture points with their fingers, while focusing on negative emotions, physical sensations and recollections. When applied properly, the technique often provides immediate relief. Repeated rounds of tapping may bring about a complete discharge of the negative emotional intensity associated with a particular memory. EFT is also remarkably effective. To fully discharge one specific memory may take, on average, anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. These seemingly miraculous results are possible because EFT addressed the root of the problem: the disturbance in the client’s energy system, rather than hashing over the memory itself.

EFT – Emotional Freedom Techniques i

What is EFT? EFT – Emotional Freedom Techniques is a relatively new discovery and a fast-evolving treatment within the field of Energy Psychology which is catching the attention of healers, scientists, spiritualists and lay people. Often referred to as “Psychological acupressure”, the technique works by releasing blockages within the energy system which are the source of emotional intensity and discomfort. These blockages in our energy system, in addition to challenging us emotionally, often lead to limiting beliefs and behaviours and an inability to live life harmoniously. Resulting symptoms are either emotional and/ or physical and include lack of confidence and self esteem, feeling stuck anxious or depressed, or the emergence of compulsive and addictive behaviours. It is also now finally widely accepted that emotional disharmony is a key factor in physical symptoms and dis-ease and for this reason these techniques are being extensively used on physical issues, including chronic illness with often astounding results. As such these techniques are being accepted more and more in medical and psychiatric circles as well as in the range of psychotherapies and healing disciplines. happy girlPsy-Tap & EFT treatment involves the use of fingertips rather than needles to tap on the end points of energy meridians that are situated just beneath the surface of the skin. The treatment is non-invasive and works on the ethos of making change as simple and as pain free as possible. Psy-Tap & EFT is a common sense approach that draws its power from Eastern discoveries that have been around for over 5,000 years. In fact Albert Einstein also told us back in the 1920’s that everything (including our bodies) is composed of energy. These ideas have been largely ignored by Western Healing Practices and as they are unveiled in our current times, human process is reopening itself to the forgotten truth that everything is Energy and the potential that this offers us. EFT has provided thousands of people with relief from all manner of problems and conditions, often in startlingly quick time and after long and painful periods of searching for a cure. The diversity of successful treatments have ranged from trauma and abuse, phobias, self sabotaging behaviour patterns, to deep set emotional conditions of anxiety and depression, addictions, physical illness, to name but a few. Psy-Tap & EFT are drawing attention from the broad spectrum of healing professionals; from the scientists to the spiritualists and everyone in between. It is at the heart of the rejoining of the old and new paradigms. Both Psy-Tap & EFT restores awareness and trust in the natural healing abilities of our mind and body, providing ground-breaking opportunities to achieving physical and emotional well-being in a faster time frame. Because the techniques are so simple, they can be used effectively as a self-help tool, which empowers people to actively contribute to their own healing and development process. This facilitates a much faster relief process, previously believed impossible by healthcare professionals who advocated lengthy (& often painful) hours in psychotherapeutic or medical care, often with limited results. These techniques do not discredit the medical and psychotherapeutic professions, but rather serve to contribute to a holistic healing process.
