Cute little spot in downtown Chestnut Hill. Salon has modern music playing in the background, coffee brewing for clients and a clean friendly atmosphere with lots of hair care products to keep up with your hair until your next visit

I am one of those people with the WORST luck with hair salons. l rarely walk out feeling great about my hair, its a total bummer. I'm also one of those people who prefers to commit to a hair stylist long term instead of bouncing around. I moved to the area about 5 years ago and my search has finally ended with Kate at SL8.

I try to be thorough, so I judge a stylist in four visits:
- First I get a haircut
- If I like it I get two blow-outs
- Lastly a 2nd haircut to see if they are consistent

First, the salon itself is really nice and the Oribe products are awesome. I'd never heard of that brand but I plan on accumulating a nice collection (over time because it is pricey, like any good thing). I like that there are only four chairs in the salon. Keeps the commotion and noise down. Its clean and simple, sleek and understated. Drinks and snacks provided.

Kate asked me plenty of questions about what I wanted on my first visit. I loved my cut and her blowdry technique was spot on for my texture (thin/curly). I have short hair that I am awkwardly trying to grow out with an undercut bob. First time clients get 20 % off FYI. Since I loved the cut I went back for the two blowouts and they were perfect and lasted. Sometimes a stylist put their best foot forward, then slack when you come back. This was not the case. Kate also informed me about the products but didn't pressure me to purchase anything.

My 2nd cut was a tad shorter than I wanted. Not completely Kate's fault, I didn't really give her a lot of details. But I think she forgot that I was growing out, not maintaining the same angled bob. Objectively, it was still a cute cut, but I was super disappointed so I got sew-in hair extensions the next day. I called to let her know that I didn't like the cut and she graciously made time in her schedule to cut and style my extensions for free. I walked out happy.

Overall, this salon is tip top. Not snobby, but not shabby. The ladies are nice and friendly and not phony like Chestnut Hill can sometimes be. Not cheap, but not too obscene. I'm gonna rock the extensions for a little bit while my length comes back and will book an appointment with Kate without hesitation. Judging from the ladies in the other chairs, I think all the stylists are talented.

Awesome salon very sleek and polished look the stylist are great with color and various styles the owner Danielle is very informative of all her products she uses in her salon and stands by them there is no longer wait for your appointment like most salons that over book your in and out in a timely fashion they have a junior stylist Haley who gives the best scalp treatment and shampoo

What a wonderful new addition to Chestnut Hill! I came in today and sat with Danielle the owner for some color. She rocked my blond on the first go-- complete with a thorough color consult before we began. Danielle and the wonderful SL8 crew offered me a bellini, an amazing door prize to celebrate their grand opening and they went above and beyond to make sure my hair was exactly how i wanted it. I will definitely be returning! There is a new hair jam in town and it is not to be missed. Thanks Danielle & team!! More...
