What makes a great website?

Making the effort to get to know and appreciate your client and their service and/or product. That way, you can plan well and execute to the best outcome. Otherwise you are simply trying to apply a 'one size fits all' template to your client. That fails because clients are individual. Each has specific needs and goals. It's about choosing the best options for them that will work and applying them successfully.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

Can you tell me about you and your business?
What is your vision - what do you want to achieve (Sales targets? Building your profile? Pushing brand awareness? etc)
What is your budget?
These would create a rapport with the client and a conversation where we would get on the same page. Asking the budget question is for both of us. It allows realistic milestones to be planned and met. It also allows the expected outcome to be reached. No over promising, under delivering or missing deadlines. It doesn't mean we cannot have ambition - additional ideas and 'wishes' could be set aside for now and addressed in the next project/job. Websites should be constantly evolving and growing.

Describe your creative process.

Meeting the client & planning the project milestones.
Initial concepts & client feedback.
Working through milestones with regular updates to the client. Each milestone discussed & signed off.
Final sign-off before going live (soft launch, website) within 24 hours or providing final artwork.

What information do you need from a client before you can start work?

Who are you?
What is your service/product?
Send any brand guidelines to follow (if any).
Send any high res (for print) photos or logos (if applicable). If there is a wait, I can improvise with low res images.
How you prefer to communicate, frequency and best times to contact (phone, text, whatsapp, skype, email etc)

What do you love most about your job?

Meeting or exceeding client's expectations. When they are happy I am. It's thrilling to have the opportunity to work with interesting, diverse people on equally interesting, diverse projects.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I enjoy helping bring make people's visions a reality. The creative challenge and opportunity to develop new skills. To push my own ideas and skills further so I can offer my clients the best service and the best ideas I possibly can. My aim is to compliment and enhance my clients' business/service/product. Pleasing them gives me job satisfaction and extra motivation. I also try to boost other's confidence in pushing their own ideas and boundaries, letting them know I am always on hand to support and help them.

I care. I've worked across the spectrum with a range of clients of various sizes. SME's, larger commercial businesses and charities. I've experience working in events and wedding fairs having been a former partner in a local wedding fair business. Upon project completion, I will check in each month to see how you are getting on. Roys Bike Shop Lanzarote

The business had inconsistencies between the domain name (electrobike-lanzarote) and its identity (rent-a-bike). As a family business who has a friendly, approachable manner, I felt that having more ownership over the name would really boost their profile. Simple, straightforward: Roys Bike Shop. Adding Lanzarote would establish the business' location. From the get-go I was thinking about rankings, search terms, SEO and a name that would be easy to remember. Roy wished to keep the blue and yellow scheme. This coincidentally ties in well with the Lanzarote brand. The brand style ties in with the cycling world - bold, simple. Something that can be identified from a distance or (on a bike) at speed. Roy placed a lot of creative control and faith in me. We worked together every step of the way. We were in different countries but used email and messenger to discuss, sign off and assess the project as we worked through the milestones. Since launch, there has been growth across social media and the website has generated conversion with new and returning customers booking in advance. Low bounce rate and audience flow behaves as planned. Currently we are developing merchandise, the next phase of the website and a website for his accessibility stock.
