When my father suddenly passed away a month before Christmas, we had never arranged a funeral before. It was a daunting and overwhelming prospect but we were blessed to have found Simple Kent Funerals. From their reasonable cost structure and my first exploratory phone call with Toby, I knew we were in safe hands. Toby is responsive, and professional but more than anything he is caring. And I think that's what we valued more than anything whilst we dealt with our shock and grief. He listened to what we wanted and gently and calmly guided us to create a funeral that was entirely fitting for our Dad. We cannot rate Simple Kent Funerals more highly. Thank you Toby. More...

My 99 year old mother was hugely comforted to know that she would be looked after by much loved Toby after her inevitable demise. I love that Toby offers alternative arrangements for funerals but my mother was a loyal member of her Church and wanted a traditional Christian Service conducted by Reverend Margaret Roylance, who 20 years ago, held the service for my father. Q&As

Helping families through a difficult time in their lives by supporting them in a caring and loving way.

A very close friend died and I helped his wife organise the funeral. The funeral directors we contacted were all very nice but had an old-fashioned formality about them which wasn't what our friend's family wanted. I was working at that time for a Community Interest Company social enterprise, working with people who have long-term health conditions, so I already had personal experience of supporting people at the end of their lives. I decided to set up my own, more up-to-date funeral service following research which showed me that almost all funeral directors in my area were traditional in their approach and offered only limited opportunities to people to do things more flexibly and simply.

I think that's best answered by the feedback and recommendations we've received - these are the most recent 5 we have been given:

From the very first phone call Toby was professional, patient, attentive and sympathetic to our needs, guiding us through the entire process resulting in the most memorable day and perfect send off for our father. Thank you Toby.

Services

Our bespoke burial or cremation funerals are personalised in every detail, to create ceremonies and celebrations from the simple to the elaborate. We can arrange for the ceremony to take place in a special or beautiful venue too, indoors or in the open-air... at home or in your garden, in church or a local village hall, at a crematorium, in a field or in woods, in a rural barn or chapel, by a lake or by the sea.

Our eco funerals and ceremonies are a more natural, sustainable, green-minded and eco-friendly way of saying goodbye.

We care for your loved one with minimal impact on the environment, we don't use the more artificial elements traditionally associated with funerals like lacquered veneer MDF coffins, embalming, big funeral hearses and limousines. You can choose a coffin made from natural, sustainable, bio-degradable materials such as cardboard or willow, woven grasses, woven banana-leaf and bamboo, made in World Fair Trade Organization accredited workshops.

Burials can be in natural burial grounds and unspoilt landscapes rather than conventional cemeteries, and while a cremation must take place at a crematorium, the ceremony itself can be held at a special or beautiful venue, indoors or outside - at home, in your garden, in a field or woods, a rural barn, by a lake or by the sea, in a village hall...

Humanist funerals are non-religious. If the person who died wasn’t religious, a humanist funeral is a more authentic way of celebrating who they were in life.

We're celebrants too, so we can organise and lead the ceremony as well as help plan the celebration.

Our humanist burial or cremation ceremonies and celebrations of life are personal in every detail. You can choose to hold the ceremony at special or beautiful venue, indoors or outside - at home, in your garden, in a field or woods, at a natural burial ground, a rural barn, by a lake or by the sea, in a village hall - as well as more traditional venues.

Fee from £850 + 3rd party costs from £475
Total cost from £1,325.

Our Simple Direct Cremation service has all the essential care and practical elements of a cremation - but without the ceremonial aspects and costs. We'll arrange everything over the phone with you, there's no need for us to meet.

If you're planning to make most or all arrangements and decisions yourself for a home-led or DIY funeral, we can help with as much or as little practical support and advice as you want. Our service starts with an initial chat to discuss your plans - to work out together exactly how much help you're going to need. We'll then give you a fully-costed quote and payment schedule. As soon as you're ready, we can start supporting you. If plans change or you decide you need more help - please let us know as we are completely flexible and can give more at any time. We'll update the quote if necessary so you're always in control of how your money is being spent.
