Southwark, Greater London, London(1 Review)
I am a central London based portrait photographer. My work includes headshots for actors, corporate headshots and editorial work. I am always happy to collaborate with clients to design a shoot based on their requirements. My studio is located in Southwark, SE1 and I am happy to host shoots here or to travel to your location, or find a suitable venue to achieve the shots you're looking for.
Depending on requirements and the location, I am happy to work with available natural light or flash. I am also happy to recommend makeup artists and stylists if needed for the shoot.
Following a shoot, I supply proof images in an online gallery where you can choose you favourites. For corporate shoots, I can supply electronic contact sheets for each person if required. Proofs will be available within 24 hours of the shoot. Once you have chosen your favourites, I will carry out retouching as required. I'm not a big fan of photos which are over-photoshopped, however subtle improvements can be made which significantly improve the final image. I will supply final images in high resolution for print, and in low resolution for the web, and in black and white or colour depending on your requirements. I can offer quick turnaround on retouching (under 48 hours) and am happy to offer a quicker service if needed.

Simon Kelski Photography Q&A
What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
There are lots of components to a good photograph: subject, lighting, composition, contrast, post production... But for portraits, the most important thing is for the subject to be relaxed and engaged with the camera. As a working actor as well as a photographer, I know what it’s like sitting on the other side of the camera. I know that not everyone enjoys having their headshot taken, so it’s very much part of my job to make you feel relaxed as possible. The more relaxed you are, the better the shots will be.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
The most important thing to understand is what your portraits will be used for - are they actors headshots for posting on casting website? Corporate headshots for a business website? Or for your own personal website? Whatever the purpose, it's important to first understand the message you want to convey to the viewer about you, and about the kind of person you are.
What do you love most about your job?
It’s incredible to me how so much information about a person can be communicated in a two dimensional image: how a subtle difference in a person’s expression can make or break a shot – and when captured well, can create a lasting connection to the viewer.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've been interested in DSLR photography for about 5 years. Through my experience working as an actor, I have always been around cameras and have been very grateful to learn from some of the best photographers and cinematographers in this country and abroad. I've always loved taking photos, but I love taking photos of people the most. So starting a portrait photography business was a logical extension of that.
Why should our clients choose you?
I think having your portrait taken should be a fun and relaxed experience. Of course we're working to get a really great set of images of you - but I hope that above all a photography session with me feels relaxed, fun and stress free. All of your images will be available to view in an online gallery within 24 hours of the shoot, and you will be able to pick 4 for retouching.
