Q&As

This is a very difficult question to answer as there is everything to love about my job. It is a unique career, and probably one of the most rewarding out there. You get to form unique bonds with people as therapist and client, one like no other in everyday life. You meet people on a deeper emotional and mental level, where you help guide and facilitate the client towards change. You walk alongside them in their story, explore their world and help lead them towards a more emotionally and mentally positive future. You create a safe, confidential and boundaried space that can allow someone to be their true self. That space is one of warmth, understanding, non-judgement, openness, respect, trust and honesty. There are even fewer jobs out there where you get to know someone so uniquely. This is the only job in the world where you aim to make yourself "redundant" for that client, which ironically is the best thing that can happen to a therapist because it means the client no longer needs your help, as they have in fact, found the strength and tools they need to be freer, make positive changes and lead what is hopefully, a happier and more fulfilling life on their own. The latter is probably the most beautiful thing of therapy.

I won't lie, starting my own business was not initially on the cards to start with, not for many years. However, as I had a room that could be utilized as a therapeutic space I felt that actually, as I was fortunate enough to have this space that I could use it for the benefit of helping people. , I felt compelled after seeing the potential to reach and help more people, especially with how extensive waiting lists with organisations (both profit and non-profit) are. I also wanted to honor my mother by creating something that I could dedicate to her, thus Shooting Star Counselling, a symbol of how hard I have worked and how determined I am to continue.

There is only one reason clients should choose me.... That is because they believe that I am the person that can help them. Choosing a therapist is a very big feat and no amount of sales talk, qualifications or experience will necessarily say that I should be chosen. Clients need a therapist whom they believe they can make changes with, trust in, feel safe and secure with, that they can open up to and be honest and vulnerable with; and this may or may not be me. All I will ask is that a client does not feel obligated to choose a certain therapist, but that they follow their instincts and choose one that fulfills elements of what they need from therapy and a therapist.

Fees
I would like to offer reduced fees for my first year post qualification whilst I am studying my Masters up until July 1st 2018. Sessions will be charged at a rate of £30 per 60 minute session (up to July 1st 2018).

The first session will be a 30 minute session free of charge to discuss our therapeutic contract, safeguarding and confidentiality, how therapy will work (payment, appointments, cancellations etc), to ask any questions that you may have and so that you can get a sense of me as a person. There will be no obligation to continue with me if you feel that I am not the right counsellor for you; I want you to make an informed decision that you will benefit you and the help you need to make those changes.

Students/Trainee Counsellors

I would also like to offer student counsellors in training that require personal therapy as part of their course (or personal development) a reduced rate of £20 per 60 minute session.

Most courses require 10 sessions of personal therapy to meet course requirements and I will offer a 10 session block at a rate of £175 (weekly/fortnightly/monthly appointments depending on your needs).
