I read several good things about this dog trainer, until I found BARK!! By then it was too late and my dog was a few days into their "training program". My dog came back in a terrible state, nervous and has not been the same. I was sent no videos as promised and have the feeling she was not trained at all given how she has been acting. Something seems very off about this place, and upon collecting my dog I could sense something bad had happened as they were quick to get me off the premises.
Upon further investigation I have found more bad press about this company, from animal abuse to mistreatment of staff to being banned from keeping animals!! BEWARE!

Quite disappointed with our experience at Sheps, paid to have our dog on residence for 2 weeks but ended up pulling him out after a week and a half. On his 4th day on residence we received our first video of his training (can't help but thinking he was in a kennel all the time up until that point!) The next 3 days we received videos from the assistant trainer but unfortunately from then onwards, none of the 'main trainer' - in total we have around 25 minutes of footage displaying his training progress. I cannot deny progress was made with our dog (a big thanks to Rebecca - assistant trainer who taught him general obedience) but however does not justify the price we paid for this 2 week course. After querying what ours dog's training structure was and his behavioural issues are being addressed we was told that they would require further 2 weeks (at a slight discounted price to what we paid for the original 2 weeks). Due to the lack of apparent training sessions within the week and a half, we decided to pull out. After discussing our concerns with extending his stay at the residence, we took up their offer of one-to-one at home training sessions with Rob. On his first visit we were charged for a second assessment (which was originally completed prior to his 2 week course). This second assessment took 15 minutes and we were charged for the hour (£200). During this 'assessment' we were told he would need equipment and to catch up with his wife regarding the training completed during his residential course (all of which could of been completed within the 10 day window between ending his 2 week course and his first 'session' with Rob). The next weeks session was moved around twice (from a Monday to Thursday then a Friday) which left us feeling secondary and unstructured. It was a very hard decision to drop Sheps services as they do hold high accolades and testimonies but our dog's future depends on the decisions we make - and unfortunately Sheps did not make us feel confident within them, regardless of how good of trainers they may be. Reply from Sheps Dog Training ltd

Absolutely correct, indeed we do!! we are balanced trainers with over 100 years experience between us. Yes we use the cord influence collars as used by the SAS and many professional dog trainers in the UK and Ireland The collars are excellent for "safe" training in dangerous situations, for example helping a dog who chases cars at the side of a busy road, the dog cannot back out of the collar and bolt away from the handler into danger. Sadly, this is not the case with so many other collar types, many are insecure and some are even dangerous to a dogs anatomy pulling their heads and necks into unatural positions thus causing injury. It would have been so much nicer had you spoken to me about your concerns. Had you taken a few minutes to do so I would have happily explained it all to you and you would have gone away much wiser and happier and probably bought an onfluence collar yourself! My only other question to you is when did you come to class and what dog did you have?? Its just that l always take names before people are invited to class and I havent a record of anyone called Darcy??also we video the training every week...please remind me which one is you??

Highly recommend sheps sent my 1 year old GSD for 15 days residential training with janie and her team and wow the difference in him is amazing got daily videos sent and the best part is there is no fancy editing to the videos they send you so you hear and see everything. when picking my boy up I got a hand over and got told and shown in so much detail what they had done with him. I can’t thank Janie and her team enough and I will definitely be travelling to join in the class on a Sunday morning. More...

I can't begin to explain to people what Rob and Janey have done for me today. I have a reactive Rottie that 130 sanctuaries refused to help me with, 2 dog training companies, 2 farmers and list continues. I was worried Mia would hurt my kids. Yesterday afternoon Mia was due to be PTS. With a last ditched attempt I tried again to reach out to anyone who would help me. Janey said call me with 20 mins before Mia was due to vets. I drove for 4 hours to take Mia there. There was no judgement! Just talking to me about how we can together get Mia to be more obedient. I have left her there with them for agreed two weeks. Mia is then being brought back to me to get training for myself and family to have her at home. All the kennels were so clean, the animals all had buckets full of water, bowls full of food. Mia has been there for less than twelve hours and I've had videos to show me that she is ok, calls to tell me how she will be walked later. I prayed to God for help and he sent me Rob and Janey. Can't wait to see my baby again in two weeks! UPDATE: Mia has been home a week now and is a different dog! Listens well walks better and does not react to other dogs when walking it’s been a dream! Sheps Dog Training Ltd I was there today for a trial shift. When I began, no one told me there was a strict no phone/ photo rule. The colleges working there mentioned NOTHING about phones. Furthermore, I did not pull my phone out in any other instance than when we got assigned our break. In our break, I took a picture of a cat. A cat. And was accused of taking pictures of the kennel dogs (which you told me you have evidence that I never got to see when I requested). After, I was told without warning to get off the premises. Bare in mind this is in the middle of nowhere, with no pavements situated on a 60mph road. I couldn’t order a taxi or be picked up, yet when I went back in to tell them this, they simply told me to get off the premises. As a young girl I felt very unsafe and nearly had a breakdown from the way I was spoken to. I worked for free for 5 hours yet got spoken to and dealt with in a manner I have never seen or experienced before IN MY LIFE. I never violated any rule, as no rules about phones were discussed by management prior to me starting my shift (or during my shift). Next time, before hosting an 8 hour trial shift make sure you clearly state what can get you KICKED OFF THE PREMISES. More...

Responding to your reply re: Jamie's review As clearly stated in our review, we did acknowledged and gave thanks to the work Rebecca did. What should be very clear that we did not pay £1650~ for general obedience. You sold us on the service two week residency course would be fit for our cause regarding all the information we gave you on our dog's issues. Even after paying you to come down for an assessment to ensure Arnold and his issues can be addressed within the two weeks you still felt confident that this could be achieved, but however you failed us on that. On multiple occasions that we would receive daily videos with his progress but as previously stated you also failed us on that. Regarding Rob's dealings - During prior and post conversations, Rob and his achievements/experiences were communicated when enquiring about your services. To say he is not connected to Shep's despite having his own company is not only bending the truth but is irrelevant to mention in your response as there was no official ''transfer''. We are saddened that Rob lied regarding us cancelling our one to one sessions with him. The first session was cancelled upon his request as our dog was unwell ( very reasonable) but however the following session was happened as stated previously. The next session on Monday, was moved around 3 times as he was in another location. While on the phone with us, he put on hold abruptly to speak to someone else which was the final straw. The saddest part of it all is that this has been a damaging first experience dealing with trainers as it has mentally and financially hurt us. Currently, we are recuperating our loses and we are also very cautious (overly cautious!) in seeking out future trainers. More...

Me and my girlfriend went down to Sheps, as we were searching for a place that would take him on a residential dog training course. We arrived and intently thought, this was a mistake. We handed our Border Collie over for an hour or two and spoke about the residential course. We simply wanted to turn up and evaluate our options, not realising that this in itself would cost us £40 (in which there was no prior mention of any costs - considering we didn’t ask for any training on the day). We have felt let down and hurt by our experience after they claimed that he wasn’t trained and needed more obedience put onto him. This was something that I had been working closely with, given my own knowledge and experience of working with dogs in certain environments (Military Working Dog Handler). Since this, our Border Collie is now in South Wales at a rehabilitation centre, in which the problems were a lot deeper then “simple training.” The unprofessionalism of the young training assistant had me feeling a wee bit creeped out, after a number of times invading my personal space when we went to leave.
