John is personable, joyful and has a serious love of creating beautiful spaces -- big or small! Our job was several small areas in our very vertical SF home, and he brought energy and enthusiasm to the whole project. He was open to listening to what our family wanted and had a great kindness in pushing back on areas that he felt would be better served by a different approach with plantings. It was super fun to collaborate with him, and he really invites you to be part of the process. Thank you, John! More...

John, by far is the best gardener I've had and I've gone through a few in the last 4 years. He has a great taste, finishes the job he promises, makes fantastic recommendations, is flexible, goes the extra mile, and also gives generous discounts, so you get a lot more than your money's worth. He's also does photography, writes poems and short stories, acts in some operas as a side hobby. Ask him about it! He's a funny guy.Tips for working with John:1) Double confirm appointments and remind him through text/phone call, as he's super busy with various clients.2) Be flexible as prior gardening jobs may take longer. If you're on a tight schedule let him know and he'll accommodate you. Thanks John for making my garden looking great always!Sasan More...

John is a phenomenal craftsman - you'll spend a lifetime looking for people who enjoy their work as much as he does. He did a wonderful job of fixing the landscape of our Noe Valley home. For both the front yard and the backyard John went above and beyond anything we expected. He completely fixed our backyard garden so that our two-year-old could have a safe and beautiful area to play. We plan to use John and all of our future gardening adventures - You cannot go wrong hiring this professional. More...

John performed creative magic on our yard. He sees possibilities in the randomest things- an old rusty chair becomes a secret place to sit under the jasmine; a rock unearthed by a fence redo becomes an angular centerpiece for the garden. He's the kind of multidimensional artist who not only applies his whole creative being to the task at hand, but knows what "a way out of no way" means. More...

Gardeners are the gypsies of modern life, piecing together clients, suppliers, and workers while promising a seamless delivery of a client's hopes.
John is one of the rare ones who delivers not only what you sought but also brings his expertise on plantings, your specific landscape environment (including sun!) and suggesting what you might not have known about. He is reliable, keeps a clean site, and is thrifty and cost-conscious. You will be pleased to have his help. Plus he is a delight to have around.

John was the only gardener out of the 5 gardeners I found on yelp that actually contacted me back.  I find it very unprofessional for a service provider to not contact a prospective customer back, even if it's to say that they're too busy to handle the requests.  John not only contacted me, but he did so within a reasonable amount of time. Our yard had been neglected for years - the trees were overgrown, weeds had sprung up everywhere, and it was just a mess in general.  I sent some pics of the yard over to John and he gave me a quote that I felt was reasonable for the amount of work to be done.  If I had to do it all myself, it probably would have taken months as I could only dispose of the waste as much as my compost bin could allow, not to mention my allergies that would leave me miserable.  John and his assistant got in at 10am and left around 1:30pm - I was astounded at how much they were able to get done in that short amount of time.   They removed all the weeds, trimmed the trees, and paid attention to the small details that I had requested - all with a smile.  I highly recommend using John - not only will he get back to you, he'll do the very best job and has got a pleasant disposition to boot. I hired John to take away all the dead plants, grass and debris from our 500 ft backyard, prep for sod, install sod and powerwash our wooden deck.  Because it is a small space and a small job, most landscapers that I found on yelp didn't want to bother with it, or were already booked out several months in advance. John jumped in and did the job.  The process involved him coming over for a few sessions each of which was a coupe hrs long. I suppose that's the nature of the process. We had a few awkward communication moments during the process where I wasn't sure if they were coming or going or neither. Perhaps that was my fault. All said and done,  John completed the job at a high quality and a fair price. He doesn't actually install the sod, but he did help me manage getting it ordered and installed by Pacific sod. I would hire him again. More...

John and his assistant were just out to our place in Pac Heights this week and did a fantastic job overhauling our yard.  It was a mess and very overgrown from a few months of neglect.  While we hired them strictly for cleanup work, John provided copious recommendations for plantings, including nurseries from which to purchase the plants, etc.  While he and his assistant worked on an hourly basis, they were quick and thorough. John has done three projects for us now, and there's a reason we keep calling him over anyone else: he's awesome! We first had him replant a houseplant that had grown to be something much bigger than a houseplant but hadn't quite become a tree. It was too unwieldy for us to replant ourselves (and we were afraid we'd kill the thing as we are utterly lacking in green digits). It was a relatively simple job, but John did such great work (and was also so fun to be around) that we had him back for two larger projects. He landscaped the tree in front of our house and it's now by far the best looking tree in the area. On his third visit, he did some container planting, beautifying our formerly plain boring porch.Sadly, we don't have a big yard for John to transform, though he is without a doubt the person we'd call if we did. If you need a reliable gardener to do work indoors or out, call John! He'll work with your budget, make your space beautiful, and make you laugh while he's at it. We'll certainly be calling him for all our gardening needs! More...

I am a crummy gardener. I've killed so many plants over the years, I cannot even describe, and I have no sense of taste when it comes to plant arrangements; this is where John comes in.  I first called John Guglielmelli nearly ten years ago to help me with my front "lawn," which was really two patches of dead grass. Within a few hours John had magically transformed the area into a lush green area filled with plants, many of which are still alive today! John has also helped me to dig up some very stubborn plants and has landscaped areas of my yard, always with great success and requiring little money. He's a hardworking guy who will turn cartwheels to make your space the loveliest it can be, with the least amount of expense. I treasure John and know you will, too. More...

John is an artist and nature photographer who creates gorgeous personal garden spaces. His approach is intuitive and he makes his choices based on an intimate knowledge of what will grow and thrive and how it will all look once the plants have established themselves. He was able to transform my dull, dry, and scrubby little suburban back yard into what I have come to enjoy as my private park. I wanted a semi-wild tropical feeling and my friends tell me it looks like Hawaii. He created something lush and new in what was basically an empty space.
