I recently had my BMW 1-Series serviced at a garage in Bangor, the follow up report suggested that the engine had " Excessive play in the timing change", although no symptoms or diagnostics supported this report. But this could be catastrophic, if the timing chain jumps on the cogs or the actually brakes while the engine is at high revs. The garage gave me an estimated cost to replace the chain to be over £500.00. I was obviously concerned, but because I had doubts about this report I decided to get a second opinion from Johnny at Scott's Garage. Johnny took the time to do a thorough inspection of the engine, run complete computer diagnostic report, and a test drive. His conclusion was the timing chain appears to be serviceable and of no concern at this time. Johnny a competent and experienced engineer, who at short notice gave me his valuable time and honest opinion.What more do you want from your garage? we recently had a contract to carry out work in Belfast. Whilst we were doing the work. Our van develop problems and I had to get the AA to transport it to Scots garage. Now we are based in the West Midlands on mainland UK so you can understand my apprehension of having the vehicle worked on with very little control from my side. Well, I had no reason to worry because John and his team were excellent . They diagnosed the problems and got them all fixed. The van is now running superbly and I believe that the work they carried out would have cost me more money in mainland UK than what John charged me. I highly recommend this company. I came to hear of this garage from a friend in work this year (2013).I'm fairly choosy who I use for garage repairs ( to my Smart Car) because I have been ' misled and miss charged' over the years with other independent businesses. "Scott's Garage" is the place that broke the mould of me mistrusting Independent garages and I say that for a number of reasons:1. My initial contact with the garage was met with a friendly,honest and personal approach, giving me the feeling that I could confidently ask for a service quotation and would be guaranteed to receive an honest and forthright price ( which wasn't based on my lack of knowledge of cars), something which has happened too many times before!2. When I arrived for my service, I didn't need to hang about like a 'spare part' - the guys knew I was coming and on seeing me drive in, approached me and introduced themselves, setting my mind at ease, right from the off!3. As the mechanic carried out the service he asked me if I wanted to know exactly what he was doing ( simply because I showed my interest in my Smart) - I learned a few things that the owners manual didn't tell me!!4 When the bill was prepared, it had no ' hidden charges', was exactly what was quoted for the expected work and it came a smile - something which is absent too often these days!!!All in all I am impressed by Jonathan Scott's garage, his staff, his honesty and the professional manner in which they all looked after both me and my car!I would have no hesitation in recommending him to my friends and work colleagues, with the same confidence that I was initially introduced to him. I'm going to sound like a complete Daddy's girl today (which isn't too far wrong to be honest...), but my dad has been impressed with Johnathan Scott since going to him with car problems three or four years ago. And he's never looked back...Scott's Garage was initially based on the Ballyregan Road, which was handy enough for us being less than ten minutes down the road. My dad took both his car and my mum's for MOT prep, for repair when he had a couple of accidents, and just general look-overs. Johnathan would always give my dad a lift home before starting work on the car, which was really lovely of him, and meant by dad didn't have to use public transport (it's been a while), or get a lift.Last year (I think...these years start to roll into one after a while), Johnathan opened up a new garage in Carrowreagh Business Park, allowing him to expand his business, and still provide the same great service. My dad has never had a complaint about him, he works incredibly hard, and offers his services are incredibly decent prices. What more could you want?! More...
