Saxon interiors have supplied and fitted numerous curtains and poles for me. Starting with the initial consultation they listen to your colour ideas or come up with their own for you to consider, followed by ordering as many fabric samples as you wish for you to try out in the desired rooms.
Once the fabric has been chosen the quote for the work/materials involved is very swift. The quality of their work is great and all the curtains and poles they have fitted look lovely.
On our initial order they worked to a tight deadline for us as we were moving into a new house and they met our timescales perfectly. They came to fit our curtains the day we moved into the house which was a godsend, fitting us in at short notice once we got the final completion date. Saxton Interiors were fantastic.
They have also supplied some plantation blinds for a bay window, which receive many compliments from visitors to the house. The quality is extremely high. We liked them so much we've just ordered some more for the bedrooms. Their prices are extremely reasonable, and you would probably be hard pushed to beat it.
I would highly recommend Saxton Interiors, not just for their workmanship but for being friendly and helpful, yet professional at all times too. Nothing is too much trouble.
Thank you

How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Often the conversion of a garage into habitable space is a cost effective way to add living space and alue to a home. Very rarely is a garage not suitable for conversion, it is just the level of work required to meet building regulations depending on the required use for the space.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
In some cases, planning permission is required when the look of the frontage is being drasically changed. However, building regulations approval is recommended to ensure that the new space is 'signed off' by the local building control and re-catagorised as habitable space. Often a garage conversion works can be submitted on a 48 hour building notice to the local council, meaning that works can commence in a short time scale. The majority of the building work involved is usually down to the insulation requirement (in the floor, walls and potentially the roof) and the closing up of the garage door(s) which require the erection of a retaining wall on a suiable footing or lintel. Once the basic building work has been conducted, the remaining works and regulations depend on the desired purpose for the finished space, similar to an extension. These are often more cosmetic and the running of services (water, heating and electrics).
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
Well, in essence, most loft spaces are convertible, but there are governing aspects as to whether this is a viable option for the type of space you are wanting to add. Major contributing factors are the height of the space available, as although entire roof replacements or the building up of the brickwork to increase ceiling heights are possible, these situations can make a loft conversion project not economically viable. Most commonly, the requirements are for a master suite to be added in the loft space, thus adding an additional bedroom with ensuite and/or dressing room. As this will often involve the dwelling becoming a three story property, there are strict building regulations in terms of fire safety which have costs attached to them. An example of this is the replacement of doors on the ground floor to self-closing 30 minute fire doors.
Permanent access to the new space is also an aspect that can be overlooked, some clients opting to lose a small bedroom on the 1st floor in order for the staircase to be installed. Although space saving or spiral staircases can be an option, it is important to note that items of furniture need to be taken up or indeed down! A little futile building a bedroom you are unable to get a bed up to it to sleep in!
Installing dorma's can add the often much required additional floor space lost to eves whilst providing the window/natural light requirement, with solar tunnels or velux style windows also possible.
Building regulations are also strict in terms of the thermal value of the conversion. Required insulation in the form of Celotex must have appropriate rafter depth to hold it and although these can be extended, ridge space and costs should be considered.
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
Most often, a planning permission is required when adding dorma's etc. An architect can drawer the various designs for you in order to submit to your local planning authority. Once a permission is obtained, building regulation approval is then required.
In layman’s terms, if your planning permission is the 'nod' to build, the building regulation part is the 'how will it be built' bit!
This will most often require calculations and drawings from a structural engineer to ensure necessary supporting beams in the form of timbers and/or steels, are sufficient, and mathematically proven to be sufficient, to do the 'holding up' job they will be required to do.
This is where many potential clients get concerned that this is too much, or 'things' start to get 'serious' and beyond their understanding. Building regulations are not something that should deter someone from doing any improvement works to their home. They are there to protect you, the current occupier, and all the many other people that may in turn call your house, their home, in the centuries to come. The people involved in this process are professional individuals/companies that are accredited and have studied long and hard for the necessary qualifications to be able to provide the service required. All of these professional services are available to us at Saxton Interiors, tried and tested and rest assured, we will be there with you every step of the way, to explain, advise and ensure that you are comfortable and informed throughout the process.
Architects, together with any other required professionals, will provide through us, or to you if you chose to appoint your own, drawings and calculations of the required development for submission to the local council. A fee is then paid to them which is location and size dependant. This covers checking of the plans, drawings and calculations to ensure they are accurate and contain enough detail that the building control department are happy that the additional space meets the requirements to pass regulations. In addition to this checking, the fee also covers numerous visits from the building inspector to the site, to ensure that the tradesmen conducting the works adhere to the materials and installation requirements passed under building regulation approval.
Once the planning/approval stage is complete and the project execution is to start, the process of implementation differs slightly depending on the type of conversion to be conducted. For us, a typical dorma style loft conversion would run as follows.........
Firstly, it is unlikely that any work would initially be conducted anywhere other than within the loft space to be converted. Roof tiles and a section of the rafters are removed where the dormer is to be situated and contained within temporary water proof membranes to guard against the intrusion of rain and weather. This access to the loft space is necessary initially for the arrival of the materials required to build the conversion. Our suppliers of loft conversion materials have an ingenious loft crane that delivers the materials to the most difficult to access places. We employ this technique as it saves carrying materials through your house, many of which, it would not be possible to do so due to size. This saves time and manpower whilst ensuring that the bulk of any dusty works can be concluded prior to the permanent joining access of the existing habitable space t the new loft conversion. Work will then continue in the loft space with reinforcement works, beam installation, insulation, electrical/plumbing works dorma/wall formation, plastering, bathroom installation (if required), even woodwork, painting, decoration, all often prior to the breaking through point and installation of the access staircase.
Once the entire project is complete, a final visit from the building inspector to ensure he/she is satisfied together with the issuance of certification (Gas Safe, electrical etc - as necessary), the local council will issue a completion certificate and sign off the project. This is retained in hard copy and electronically for insurances, compliance, property resale purposes etc.
What’s your interior design process?
Start at the end, finish at the start!
Most designers you will meet, start at the beginning of a project, forming designs as they progress. At Saxton Interiors, we turn that completely on its head, starting with forming a vision of the end result and working backwards to the starting point. This we feel extremely passionate about, every detail is meticulously planned before the commencement of any works, ensuring there is a designated plug socket for your favourite lamp, or space for those curtains you have always dreamed of!
We offer a 360ᵒ service at competitively affordable prices, which will usually begin with a free, no obligation consultation offering design advice and ideas. Whether the scope of the project is large or small, you will be greeted with a warm, friendly, personal and professional service.
Which interior design styles can you cater for?
We cater for a huge array of styles and tastes.
We believe that design is subjective and thus look at interior/exterior design differently to many other designers.
Taste and personality are huge inputs to the design process and is of utmost importance that we get to know our clients very well indeed. This is so we can make suggestions that WE think you will like, not what YOU think you like, else, what is the point in our employment? Our designs are tailor made to you, not some blended vagueness that the majority would like, or probably more poignantly, that the majority would not dislike! Isn't that why magnolia was created? Rarely loved, but never found offensive! "well it looks clean and bright" being as definitive a comment as you will get!!
It is my aim for my/our designs to create opinion! Although rare, I would much prefer a comment of, "I hate it!" to "it's okay" or "it's alright", as it means there is enough design layers to have created an opinion and a definitive one! Our designs, teamed with immaculate execution, will always provoke a descriptive word, anywhere from words like elegant, sumptuous, classic, all the way up to crazy, bold or even bonkers!
We will endeavour to provide you with cutting edge design, bespoke solutions never implemented before, utilising technology and embracing the latest and innovative techniques. Providing you with something unique, classic, flamboyant, crazy, stunning, sumptuous, sublime, tactile, exhilorating depending on your desired result, but it will always breath taking and perfectly executed.
How long have you been in business?
I started Saxton Interiors Ltd in 2013. Since that time, we have grown exponentially, providing impeccable craftsmanship and great design to everybody. We have also added affiliate companies to the Saxton Interiors brand, such as Saxton Soft Furnishings Ltd, doing what it states on the tin, with Saxton Capital Projects Ltd mainly for commercial and larger scale development.
What guarantee does your work come with?
We will only use quality materials. That doesn’t necessarily mean expensive!
Thus the majority of items used will be guaranteed by the manufacturer.
All of our works are fully guaranteed and insured, the length of which would be dependent on the type of works conducted.
Our guarantees run from 2-50 years.
What do you love most about your job?
I/we have the most fulfilling of careers, meeting a vast array of people and personalities. Sometimes quirky, eccentric, humorous, serious, calm, hectic, but always unique and interesting. It has long been known that a person’s home is their castle, I get to enter their homes and provide something they will see, usually every day. Give them something to be excited about, proud of, amazed by, smile about, delighted with, something that truly makes a difference in their lives.
Not many people can say that about their jobs can they!!??
What inspired you to start your own business?
Owning your own business ensures that you are ultimately responsible for the way work is handled and the steer of the business overall. This enables you to be flexible and adapt to your clients needs and wants.
Why should our clients choose you?
We at Saxton Interiors take the responsibility of conducting works within our clients homes and work places very seriously. We will always give 100% commitment to our tasks and conduct work correctly and ethically, ensuring the best possible result is achieved at the best possible price.
