If your looking for some good wings, and great customer service this is the place to go! When you first walk in if you look to your left you will see the bar and a sitting area and to your right there will be another sitting area. They have a paper menu on the table and they also have the menu on the wall.  The reason why I gave Saw's four stars and not five was because I felt as though $3 for one deviled eggs was a bit pricey and the baked potato I ordered wasn't good. I ordered the chicken and broccoli bake potatoe and added tons of salt, butter and sour cream and it still wasn't good. The wings were great!!!!but for $10 bucks I fell like you should get more than 5 wings....and that doesn't include any sides. I also tried their fried green tomatoes and they weren't half bad. If you like a more thicker cut slice of fried green tomatoes then you will love theirs. Me, myself prefer a more thinner cut. Yes I would come back here again and I would definitely order their wings again! More...

Saw's BBQ - BBQ - Homewood-Birmingham, AL - 4.5 StarsEvery drive through the Deep South on our way to Georgia always leads us to BBQ, and we usually end up in Lynyrd Skynyrd's favorite state when we "democratically elect" to chow down on "A Rack o'Bama. " In fact, we rarely eat anything else, and when the Bible Belt Blue Blatherings made us feel "blue" with a complete dearth of food options in neighboring Mississippi, we sought to "break fast" after a minuscule Hardee's breakfast, even if we meant we had to "break" for Homewood "fast" given the 3pm closing time. Despite having been burned by an inaccurate Yelp opening hours listing in Meridian while facing the choice of stopping in the mile-away Tuscaloosa or continuing in hope Saw's would be open, the reviews from eminent local journalists made the risk worthwhile. And when we arrived at 2pm to find Saw's wide open and staffed by a bearded African-American gentleman with a black apron, we knew we could sing "Lord I'm comin' home to you!"It's not "throwing pearls before swine" to order something besides pork in Alabama, because the local specialty seems to be smoked chicken with a white as a North Dakotan mayonnaise-horseradish sauce. But since I also wanted to taste their pulled pork and ribs while I had the chance, I thought "¿Por qué no los tres?" and ordered a giant combo plate of all three with two sides and cornbread, knowing this time I would have stomach space before and after. A vinegar-based coleslaw was a very safe bet, but sadly, the green beans were "had beens" rather than "has beens" in the kitchen, and I had to reluctantly change to baked beans. Before we could drawl out a verse of "Sweet Home Alabama," a platter piled higher than any of the pileups on the loudly customer-officiated Saints-Panthers football game trotted out of the kitchen and drew envious looks from my familial dining companions who had only ordered smaller meals each. The baked beans were not "rad beens," but definitely a notch above generic versions, with a more homemade texture and some flecks of pulled pork compensating somewhat for the spartan seasonings. The coleslaw was sour and vegetable-heavy with a pale yellow curry-like color reminiscent of chow chow relish, and proved a refreshing foil for the tripartite carnivorous assault to come. The pulled pork was stringy and only moderately chewy, the edges flecked with smoke and adequately juicy. The ribs were thicker than Jeff Bezos' wallet, their size the only detriment to their juiciness as the meat on the joint near the bone got slightly tougher, but elsewhere they were the perfect balance between chew, fat, and meltingly tender meat with a delectably sour sauce that ranks among the finer I've eaten in the state. But the real star is the born and raised Alabaman white chicken, the meat the juiciest on the plate and almost defying logic as moisture seems to seep out of the flesh while it's being cut or chewed, the skin and edges of the thighs drying out only just enough to become crispy, and the white sauce smoothly insulating the meat while also soaking up the heavily black pepper-perfumed rub into its subtle flavor profile. As I sopped up the streaks of white and red on the Styrofoam platter with the rustic homemade cornbread, I gazed proudly around the graffiti-strewn side wall and framed newspapers all over the main wall, thinking just about every single boast was well-deserved. It wasn't completely perfect, but Saw's ranks among the finest BBQ adventures in this state out of the five we've now undertaken. We were gladdened to see that they took the trouble to open at all on Sundays, even covering up the "Closed" sticker by the word "Sunday" with their new hours in classically BBQ slipshod fashion, to bring us heaven's food on the Lord's Day. This is what I want when I think of BBQ. The place is just what I want my BBQ restaurant to be. It started when we walked in the door. The climate was warm, I mean temperature warm. Not necessarily hot but almost to the point where you want to eat and leave. The lady that greeted us when we approached the counter was friendly but all business. She almost told us to hurry up without saying those words. The brisket, greens and pink eyed peas ( they were black eyed peas) were all delicious. I had a PBR to wash it all down. The people working were busy but polite. I don't need somebody to be overly nice to me when I got to a great BBQ restaurant. I am there for the food and this place nailed it. If you ever get a chance to stop by here, you will get what you came for, a lot of good food, in a quick amount of time, and you will not leave here hungry. I will certainly be back. More...

Saws was recommended by the hotel we stayed at in the area. The place is a little dated and dingy but the food that came out was mouth watering. The blues music in the background was a nice added touch. Everything on my sampler plate was really good but our favorite was the chicken leg smothered in white BBQ sauce. Chicken; The red headed step child of bbq no more.   Saws has perfected the succulent smoke of this typically dense and dry bird.  Sure, you can bread your breast or deep fry the flightless one or gussy up a gobbler with all sorts of holiday brines...  but what Saws has perfected is a featured headliner --- slathered in a white wonderland of chicken bbq sauce.  Sweet tea not too sweet and sides plentiful.  A big smile and a bigger meal wait for you at Saws. We have tried the other places, the imposters, the new kids on the block and the wannabees but we always come back to Saw's. A person cannot put into words the sheer joy of a Saw's pulled pork sandwich. If I had a last meal granted to me on death row it would be everything on Saw's menu. And the people here are the best, friendliest, most helpful and appreciative hosts in town, especially Miss Sharon (or is it Cheryl?). When they get busy and the line goes out onto the sidewalk, no one freaks out - they keep on smiling. Thank you, Saw's. More...

Where has white bbq sauce been all my life? Wow, loved it. The pulled pork was good and didn't not come with sauce on it. The ribs seemed very fatty to me but the sauce was good . The chicken was quite charred but the sauce made the chicken amazing. The turnip greens were better than most. The Cole slaw didn't have mayo which is how I like it but I am in the south. I did not like the deviled eggs as they were bitter and had a similar flavor to the  Cole slaw. More...

This is legitimately the best barbecue in Birmingham. I don't care what anyone else says. Make sure to get the barbecue chicken with the white sauce (mayonnaise based). It is the specialty of Northern Alabama and also of this place. The chicken is so full of smokey flavor and so tender, even the white meat. And the sweet and tangy white sauce is a great complement. The ribs were also good. They were fall off the bone tender (so I think they were braised first). More...
