The banana pudding here is so very good! I did just have a burger at The Highlands location and it was juicy and quite tasty!!
Chicken; The red headed step child of bbq no more. Saws has perfected the succulent smoke of this typically dense and dry bird. Sure, you can bread your breast or deep fry the flightless one or gussy up a gobbler with all sorts of holiday brines... but what Saws has perfected is a featured headliner --- slathered in a white wonderland of chicken bbq sauce. Sweet tea not too sweet and sides plentiful. A big smile and a bigger meal wait for you at Saws. More...

awesome food. we drive an hr to eat there
This location is near my house. And I try to enjoy it whenever I can. I’ve always found the service acceptable, reasonably fast, and the food outstanding. If you’re from out of town in search of BBQ, this place needs to go to the top of your list. More...
Tied with Uncle Sam’s as my favorite ribs in Birmingham
Pulled pork was amazing and my buddy had this stuffed potato. Extremely fast service. Even with the large group we brought in I had my plate within 5 min of my rear touching the seat. Overall it was pretty fantastic...
Meat was extremely tender so that's what you come for. Sides were a little small to me and the bread was cheap. Kids menu is one thing.
Some of the best bbq in Alabama...smoked wings are great!
We have tried the other places, the imposters, the new kids on the block and the wannabees but we always come back to Saw's. A person cannot put into words the sheer joy of a Saw's pulled pork sandwich. If I had a last meal granted to me on death row it would be everything on Saw's menu. And the people here are the best, friendliest, most helpful and appreciative hosts in town, especially Miss Sharon (or is it Cheryl?). When they get busy and the line goes out onto the sidewalk, no one freaks out - they keep on smiling. Thank you, Saw's. More...
food was great. the staff is very friendly and helpful when ordering.
This place OMG so so so delicious! I was in town for a visit and happened to magically find this place! It was so good I went back the next day when they opened! I'll be seeing you again if I ever get back that way!!! Pulled pork sandwich was amazing as were all the sides I ordered! More...
My favorite bbq
Very goodLots of meat of the sandwiches
Freakin best pulled pork I've ever had. So tender and juicy. Sauces were the bomb and potato salad made with mustard/mayo just like my moms
May very be the best BBQ restaurant we've visited yet!
Very good. Ribs, Chicken and Pulled Pork was amazing. Was in town for the UAB vs. Rice game and wanted to find a local place to eat.
Actually this is the one I ate at, heard about it on Triple D I believe. Totally awesome, chicken is great, good sauce, slaw, beans. GREAT
Saws is the abosolutr best BBQ in Alabama! You can visit any one of their three locations in Birmingham, and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. All of their locations have different menus, but the Homewood location has amazing ribs that completely fall of the bone. Downtown in Avondale they have a pork and greens plate that is phenomenal. This is a must try if you are in the Birmingham area! More...
Awesome food! Excellent Hospitality and service!
Outstanding food great friendly service. They come in fast, but you gonna walk out slow
Where has white bbq sauce been all my life? Wow, loved it. The pulled pork was good and didn't not come with sauce on it. The ribs seemed very fatty to me but the sauce was good. The chicken was quite charred but the sauce made the chicken amazing. The turnip greens were better than most. The Cole slaw didn't have mayo which is how I like it but I am in the south. I did not like the deviled eggs as they were bitter and had a similar flavor to the Cole slaw. More...
This is legitimately the best barbecue in Birmingham. I don't care what anyone else says. Make sure to get the barbecue chicken with the white sauce (mayonnaise based). It is the specialty of Northern Alabama and also of this place. The chicken is so full of smokey flavor and so tender, even the white meat. And the sweet and tangy white sauce is a great complement. The ribs were also good. They were fall off the bone tender (so I think they were braised first). More...
So good! The lady taking the order was awesome! The food was amazing! We got there right before dinner rush, so we got our food really fast! My husband and I will definitely be going back soon! More...

Great food and great staff
Great local treasure. Awesome food. Great service and fast. Nothing cheap good quality ever time.
Kinda a hole-in-the-wall type place, small seating areas, but overall bbq was pretty good.
Try the white sauce. All was great.
If you want bbq but don't want to stand over a hot grill, Saw's is the only place to go! The chicken with white bbq sauce is divine! The ribs are yummy and the brisket is AMAZING! Great sides like mac and cheese and baked beans make for a great lunch or dinner. It is kinda kinda smoky when eating in but you will be focused on your food and won't care! More...
This is a hard review to write because we went there to eat BBQ, but could not find any BBQ on menu that excited me. I saw they had a fish sandwich and I tried three fish and was best I have ever had. Good serve and everyone enjoyed their lunch. More...
The Ribs Were Seasoned And Sauced To Perfection... #TenderToTheBone!!!! Intimate And Cozy Atmosphere...
Good food. The location of the restaurant is in the middle of town and parking is very difficult to find.
This place was amazing! I had the pulled pork with turnips and grits. The Pale Ale with this delicious meal was perfect. The service was friendly and fast. This is a go to place for sure. More...
The Pork and Greens are delicious! The combo of grits, greens, bbq, fried onion are amazing. The wings are really good too.
Really good barbecue. My favorite bbq place in Birmingham for sure!
Excellent bbq. That white sauce is so freaking good..
Great service they stayed open after closing time to allow time to finish a great meal.
I had the pulled pork it was tasty but not enough sauce! Mr had chicken with with bbq sauce and same thing not enough sauce... friendly service and chill environment More...
Busy, but well worth it.
This was easily one of the top 5 BBQ stops I've ecer been to. Will be sure to return!
Bbq very good. More like a pork roast than bbq. Busy, crowded and hot at lunch. The result of being good.
Great food , casual atmosphere and friendly service !
Locals are right, this is the best barbeque we've had in Birmingham. Restaurant is retro but very clean and staff is great. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful. Cornbread better than my own. Parking on the road a little tight. More...
Amazing. I had brisket and chicken and it was so good. The white BBQ sauce is fantastic.
Perfect pork BBQ meat, well-trimmed, with a NC-inspired red sauce that compliments it flawlessly. No idea about the white sauce since I don't favor "white" bbq sauces anywhere. When I say the sauce compliments it flawlessly, I mean it: if you were making competition BBQ and using part of the drippings in a custom sauce intended to work with the way you prepared and cooked your meat, this is what you would be striving for. Spot on. Onion straws are outstanding. Okra is outstanding. One visit and this place shot into my top five BBQ joints of all time, really, top two if I am being honest. Service is friendly, and is also reasonably quick, as you would expect from a place that keeps the menu streamlined. Seating is limited, possibly the only quibble I could come up with regardless of how long I had to think about it. Pricing, for the quality, is very reasonable. My wife tells me they make a fantastic burger, I would not know since I don't stray from what I know they do about as good of a job as can be done. You owe it to yourself to try it. More...
A great place to get white BBQ sauce. Birmingham is the home of white BBQ sauce and Saw's is an excellent location to exploit. The redo is located near Interstate 65, so the visit did not delay our Nashville to Montgomery drive too much. The staff is helpful. More...
The bbq is great but the chicken sandwich is mind blowing. It will rock your world and make any other sandwich you have ever eaten seem like bologna. The portion is huge and the white sauce is memorable. You will leave with a bottle of white sauce because it is that good. You can use it on anything and will want to because it is that good! The fried oreo dessert was phenomenal. Service is great, the people are friendly and the location is worth making this place a priority. Why they have not franchised out is beyond my comprehension. This place could be a national phenomenon if they expanded. If you are within 2 hours, make a detour. You won't be disappointed. More...
Chicken with white sauce. Nuff said. Being from Texas i know bbq chicken ya hear and this was eaily in the top 3 leg quarters ive had in my life.
Couldn't decide so had to go with the sample platter; three meats and two sides. The pulled pork was okay but the ribs were very good and the crown jewel was the chicken topped with that white sauce. DELICIOUS.
Great flavor, long lines, food brought out really quickly.
Some of the best restaurant bbq I've had. The white bbq sauce on chicken is bomb.
Such good BBQ. The pulled pork is full of flavor and their aides are epitome of comfort food. The location is small, but that's no big deal. Food was delivered with fast, friendly service and located in the downtown area of Homewood. Can't wait to go back. More...
Out standing Food.. a little hold in the wall but the food is good. Took my dad for his Birthday we all enjoyed our food.. will return
My favorite restaurant in Birmingham. There's so much variety and EVERYthing is good. My go-tos are the wings and fried pickles. The sweet tea chicken sandwich is good, as well as any of their smoked meats. The only thing I don't like is how loud it is when you get seated in the bar area during live music. More...
Saw's Juke Joint has the best cheeseburger in Birmingham, in my opinion. The smoked wings, sweet tea chicken sandwich, pork & greens, stuffed baker and basically everything else on the menu is great too, but the burger stands out to me. It's a standard beef, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, special sauce cheeseburger, but it is anything but average. As a self proclaimed burger connoisseur, I've tried every cheeseburger in town that's been hyped. The Saws Juke Joint Cheeseburger is the gold standard I compare the rest to. If you want to scratch the burger itch but aren't starving, order the kids burger with the big cheeseburger set up. The staff is very helpful with stuff like this. They also have different specials daily. The Friday special is usually Fish and that's a real treat regardless of the type of fish or how it's prepared. Sunday special is the patty melt - a favorite hangover cure for me. Tuesday special is usually the "tomato stack" - a tower of fried green tomatoes - that unfortunately is a summer only special I'm afraid. They switch up the specials a lot aside from the above mentioned regulars. They aren't "BBQ" dishes - we end up ordering the special most of the time since eating cheeseburgers daily is apparently unhealthy. Or so I'm told. We've become friends with nearly everyone on staff which keeps us coming back again and again. They're incredibly friendly, play good music, have good conversation, and remember your name if you frequent the place. You'll actually notice a lot of the same folks around the bar every time you're there. It's a very family friendly place. My kids love it and the staff love them too actually. There's a park ("Crestline Park") not far away if you want to bring your family for a lunch, short walk, and play time. It's a great way to spend a couple hours before nap time. The only "issue" is the parking. Which is a good problem for them since the lot isn't small. It's just a popular place. There's rarely a long wait if you're willing to eat at the bar. The price is right. Be sure to get the white sauce ;) More...
Incredible. Ordered the Pork Tater with a side of Mac n cheese. Huge, delicious portions. Wish we were local so I could try more!
Love their white bbq sauce!
Best BBQ in the Birmingham area, probably the whole state.
Great, and in such a great location. Unpretentious and delicious.
The chicken sandwich with white sauce is wonderful!!! Bar-b-que is really good too but I am a fan of the white sauce. Get some everytime I pass through town.
The pulled chicken sandwich with white bbq sauce is one of the best I've had. The bushwhackers are delicious and pretty strong. Service and the live music are both good. Love this little spot! More...
Great barbecue and sides!!
Loved the smoked wings with the Alabama White Sauce.
Incredible!! Fried green tomatoes, house made chips served in a paper bag, best fried okra, pork n greens and sweet tea chicken!! Wow!! So good. Stuffed taters are perfection. Great service and cool loud vibe. We love SAWS More...
I can see why Saw's BBQ is one of Alabama's best BBQ places. The ribs were wonderfully moist and tender. The flavor was overpowered however by the tomato and vinegar based sauce. The pulled pork was flavorful with a light smoke and smooth bite and pull. All meat in this two meat plate was drowning in the aforementioned sauce. The greens were a very sweet and vinegary side that was an unwanted surprise and the Mac and cheese left much to be desired. As stop number two in Alabama on our mini crawl it was a much wanted improvement to there completion south in Montgomery. More...
Friendly service, Great Food, Best Turnip greens I've ever had, Had Rosted Chicken with White BBQ Sauce and Deviled Eggs, I Highly Recommend it. A++++ Loved it. :)
Absolutely everything we expected. Excellent BBQ, great atmosphere, and a staff that made us smile.
This place is truly a hole in the wall restaurant but their food is really good. Not a large menu but what they do they do really well. BBQ & typical sides.
One of the best BBQ restaurant in Birmingham! Awesome pork and their thin sauce is to die for!!!You can not go wrong at Saw's in Homewood!!!
I was lucky enough to get taken here while visiting for business. The ribs are out of this world! I'm super grateful our host took us here.
White bbq and chicken, what a beautiful combo!
This place lives up to the hype. You've read just about everything you need to read about it here on help but just know this, you can write on the walls if you want and I read this "Travis is out of jail" think about it, you just do a stint in the dirty south and get out, where do you choose to celebrate that first delicious meal? That's all.... enjoy

Great food and amazing service me and my family came and ate here together and we loved it
Great ribs and great mac'n'cheese!
I was in town for Piper Davis Baseball tournament . I was looking for some good BBQ place and found this gem. The cashier was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items . The place was clean. The food was great the ribs was tender . I would recommend this place . More...

Put on some goggles, bring some gloves, break out the handkerchief for the sweat off your brow...this place is gonna make you workout your mouth and facial muscles! The pulled pork melts in your mouth and the juicy drippings leave a lasting love for more after every bite. The sausages are authentic and brimming with Smokey tailwinds coming out your ears. Wipe the tears and brush back the hair while watering your pallet with iced brewed tea. Order up to stay if you find a table or make a new friend and share one. Order out, beware, you may want more later, take two of each. Sweet Home Alabama indeed!!! More...

Staff was wonderful and cool under pressure during 4th of July. Food is always excellent.
Wasn't quite as good as the other two times I've been.
Very good! It's a small place. But busy. Clean! There are seats outside. I would go back!!!!!
Saw's is one of the best barbecue joints I've been to in Alabama. The ribs and the pulled pork ous consistently full of flavor and easy to chew. The chicken is always juicy. Price is competitive for the area. It's worth going a little bit out of your way. More...
From my first step into this restaurant, I knew it was going to be as good as the reviews said it was. It's small and looks older and really authentic, like you stepped into an old school southern bbq joint. Nothing fancy because the food does the talking. I wasn't sure what to order so I got the Special which was the "sampler" and came with a little of everything. Ribs, Pork and Chicken (with the amazing Alabama white sauce) and two sides. I got the mac & cheese and deviled eggs (best ones I have ever had by the way). The food lived up to the hype, some of the best bbq I have ever had. If you are in Birmingham, Saw's is a must. More...
Unique shack but good que!Small order at counter and grab a seat.Need a return trip to check out pork and ribs but chicken with white sauce was top notch
Amazing bbq recommended by a friend. Everything was great. Parents, my child had 3 helpings of green beans if that tells you anything.
My mom and I were so happy we made it to Homewood for this great bbq. We had the with chicken and broccoli baker. The picture doesn’t do it justice so I ordered a pull pork sandwich thinking I wasn’t going to be full! Yea right it was load fully packed to rim with chicken, broccoli, cheese and sour cream topped with great bbq sauce. The potato was so soft like I was eating mashed potatoes. I don’t like working for the food on my plate. Pay a little extra for the Mac and Cheese because it’s worth it. Only down part about the Homewood location it was small and imma big girl. However Tiffany was very helpful and made sure we had Sweet Tea. O and the young boy on the register is a beast he was taking walk-in orders and phone orders all at the same time. He was awesome... had to bring some back to Mississippi with us! More...
Just one warning the space is really tight like blood pressure cuff tight. Please don't let that stop you from stepping through the doors. They do have tables for dining in if you prefer to eat there. The customer service was great, the waitress/hostess was very polite. Now, the food is something to write home about. I had the pulled pork sandwich with a side of macaroni & cheese, me and my friend ate in silence because the food was so good. Lol. My friend had the bbq baked potato (with your choice of toppings) and greens. Be sure to try the cornbread. We went during the afternoon hours after the lunch rush. I have went back and tried the ribs and I wasn't disappointed, my food was even better the next day. The parking is like curb side and I think some people park on the side. On the same block you have Taco place, Big Spoon Creamery, Ono Poke, Pizza spot, another ice cream place, and an antique shop with a Chevron gas station on the same road if you need to refuel. Hope this information is helpful. More...
Nice pulled pork BBQ. Generous portions of succulent meat. Zero atmosphere in cramped quarters. If you want atmosphere go to Highlands Grill.
The stuffed baker was good. Upset they took the beef brisket off the menu.
Very good BBQ
The food was very good, as unusual. Loved the smoked chicken and baked beans. My son loved the ribs and baked beans. The employees were extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. One employee quickly replaced my cup one I showed him the leak. He was performing another task, stop and resolved my situation immediately and with a smile! Wonderful service. Wish there were more indoor sitting tables, otherwise, I had an enjoyable experience. More...
Great BBQ. Homemade Mac and cheese. Amazing. I was in town for work and came across this place
Great BBQ eatery. Try it, you will like it lots.
Excellent BBQ...especially the pulled pork. It goes well with the sauce. Mac and Cheese was great as well as the coleslaw.
Best bbq I may have ever had
Customer service is great!
Pricy, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five I really enjoyed the chicken with white sauce. The place was packed on a Sunday afternoon.
Great BBQ stop in if you get a chance ribs and chicken are great
Always awesome and friendly staff. Best BBQ chicken in town.
Love the Ribs
Best ribs and smoked chicken in Birmingham!
The best! Quick food, freshly prepared, friendly service, accommodating for large groups. LOVE the sweet tea fried chicken sandwich with white sauce and pickles. It's like Marriage Supper of the Lamb kind of good. Homemade chips are excellent as well. Everything fish on the menu is seasoned well and fresh. Neighborhood fav More...
The Sweet Tea Chicken Sandwich was sooo delicious! I almost wish I would have gotten two Also our waitress provided us with excellent service!
Amazing, authentic, Alabama style BBQ. Do not miss the chicken with white sauce, ribs that fall off the bone.Sides ate just ok, but that meat is the star of the show. Don't miss it.
OMG delicious !!! From the fried pickles, deviled eggs, fried okra, fried green tomatoes, wings, catfish, sweat tea chicken and the AMAZING boudin sausage !!!! Great pork sandwich and greens, wish they had wings at all locations though.
Depending on the direction you come from you may feel your GPS is wrong. The direction I came from to me through a neighborhood, ll of the sudden at a small intersection, there it was. Food was great, my only reason for 4 stars, the portions were a little small, unlike most BBQ places. Beer was cold, staff was outstanding. More...
The food was delicious! A few things that disappointed me 1. The menu online is incorrect (i.e prices and sides listed online) the slab of ribs are not $23.99 and they offer more sides than what's listed 2. I asked a couple of times if bread would be included and was told it was, but got home without any bread. The Mac and cheese was amazing and even the lady at the counter was more than pleasant but I don't like wrong advertisement! More...
Southern barbecue can be hit or miss. Saw's Juke Joint really gets it right in Birmingham. The menu isn't huge, which means they put all the attention in the food. I ordered the smoked chicken with white BBQ sauce and it was great and served over a bed of cooked greens and grits. I wasn't sure if it would work but it did. They also have a variety of sauces that are pretty solid. There's also a full bar to add a little kick to a good meal. The vibe of this location "road house" so you can kick back, watch a game, and get stuffed. The service is good too. More...
Excellent representation of Alabama BBQ
Add me to the list! Old school looking b-b-q with great food. I'd give 5 stars, but they ran out of pork. Had to settle for chicken. I am not holding that against them, completely, as I know places like this have limited daily supply. But I was really looking forward to some pork. Waited about 30 min to order, but with all the craziness, the staff was all smiles!!! Had the chicken platter with sweet potato fries and fried corn on the cob (do that!). Great flavor and portions. They give you white sauce unless you ask for red. I really wanted red but forgot to ask. My bad, but the white sauce was really good too. Great place to take people when they want to experience a southern bbq place. More...
Fantastic fried okra, fish and grits! Great place to sample authentic Alabama soul food

My parents were in town visiting for the weekend so I did my best to show them all things Birmingham. We opted to go to Saw's Juke Joint over the Avondale one because of seating concerns and I'm very glad we did. We started with the chicken wings, which were highly recommended by the waiter, and the onion rings. I'm not a huge chicken wing fan, but these wings were AWESOME. They are smoked and have very good flavor. The onion rings were also very good, thinly sliced and well seasoned. Although, I would probably opt to try a different appetizer instead of the onion rings or just order more chicken wings. For entrees, I had the chicken and greens (with grits), my boyfriends had the pork and green (with grits), my dad also had the pork and greens and my mom had their house special fried chicken sandwich. All the food was awesome, and I really like their white barbecue sauce. I liked being inside, with AC and would probably opt for this location from now on. We were too full to try their desserts so I'll have to go back and try them next time. More...

We were in the Birmingham area for an event today and wanted to get something local to eat. My husband was in charge of this and picked Saw's BBQ and I am so glad that he did. This was some of the best BBQ we have ever had!! We all got the pulled pork, I got the stuffed potato, my husband got the plate and my daughter got the sandwich. The BBQ sauce was perfect, the pork was tender, and the sweet tea was just right. It was a little pricey, but well worth it! Next time I am down that way I will be making another stop at Saw's! Damn good Alabama bb-q. I went to the downtown location small inside but well serviced by the cashier. The white bb-q sauce was unreal. Well worth the money.
Amazing food and friendly staff. They have very limited seating so be prepared to make new friends by inviting strangers to dine with you.
Seriously good food!
Ribs were tender and service outstanding.
Amazing as always!!!! And fast service!!!!
The best bbq in Birmingham area, maybe the whole state of Alabama. Don't miss it!
Whenever its in season I always go for the fried okra spears.
The food is amazing. Definitely will be back.
Great service and meal.
Good BBQ, very small so I suggest do a takeout
Best BBQ in Birmingham if I had to choose! This place never lets me down!
Food was great and excellent service.
A few years ago we were a hangry couple on our way to visit a friend in northern Alabama from Florida and needed food. Yelp reviews pointed us to Saws but my wife didn't want bbq. She was leery about the white bbq sauce too. Now we stop here every chance we get and usually buy a cooler to bring food home in. My wife and I always orders extra white sauce now too. Love this place! The loaded bakers are insane. More...
The food was AMAZING. Definitely worth the stop. I was so excited to find Boudin there!! All in all my family had the BBQ chicken, ribs, boudin. greens, potato salad, mac and cheese a a hot dog. I can say all were very very good aside from the hot dog which I didnt eat. However my very picky son ate it so it had to be good . Its a safe bet we will seek Saws out the next time we are in Alabama. It's one of those local kind of "hole in the wall" restaurants. The ones that usually have the beat food. The staff was busy and efficient. I did not have an issue with anyone being rude. it's just a little crowded. More...
Very good eating!
I've never had such a magnificent experience eating so much wonderful food that is likely to take weeks off of my lifespan.
Chicken + white sauce makes Saws my #1 choice restaurant in Birmingham. Plus the employees HUSTLE! Love it, keep doing what you do!
Best white bbq chicken I've ever had!!!!
Helon Rodabaugh Barton
Everything I’ve had has been great.
Amazing BBQ. I had the smoked chicken with white sauce, request extra white sauce, that stuff is gold
Best BBQ in the state. Banana pudding is also amazing.
The food was excellent. Highly recommend
Absurdly amazing food and fast and nice staff across the board.
The best bar-b-que anywhere!
Pam Styres Buell
The best ribs we have ever had.
This was my first experience with the Saw's brand several years ago, and while the food is still delicious, I can't say it's my favorite location (hat tip to Crestline). The menu is somewhat limited, but everything we've ever gotten is delicious. I'm a big fan of getting the barbecue plate (with white sauce, of course!) and making a few meals of it. I'd recommend getting your food to go, as it's definitely a sticky table situation. But, if that doesn't bother you. carry on. I'd recommend calling your order in, as it can take a few minutes if taking it to go (not inordinate, but still). Their signage is pretty aggressive about tipping for a place with counter service and a self service drink station, but be that as it may the food is delicious. More...
Hands down great food! The staff was very welcoming! Highly recommend!!
This place has good BBQ and the banana pudding is something I crave from time to time, I highly recommend it! The atmosphere is relaxed but can be a bit loud and crowded inside the restaurant. I like the option of being able to sit outside. I wish the prices were a bit cheaper but if I really want BBQ I will pay for it. Make sure you try the white sauce! It's really good! More...
Amazing Southern BBQ! The staff was so nice and friendly

Saw's white BBQ sauce is the bomb!!
The best bbq i have ever had period! You cannot go wrong with the pulled pork!
Best BBQ I've had yet hands down.
Great little hole in the wall, BBQ joint. Get the white sauce... it is CRAZY good!
I was waiting to visit this establishment, and I FINALLY made it! This is a small "hole-in-the-wall", AND it has character! The food is unique and amazingly deliciious! The bbq sauce is vinegar-based. It is definitely one of the best bbq places I have been to. The employees are friendly! And, lastly, I was impressed with the restroom. It has a contemporary, CLEAN, cute out-house vibe to it. This is a bucket-list restaurant for anyone who visits Bham. 5-stars, especially for the service AND the food! More...
Chicken, ribs, pulled pork, banana pudding: all great.
Great bbq!!! Love the atmosphere so nostalgic!!
Southern BBQ done right
Great barbecue. Relaxing casual atmosphere.
I Don't know who only gave 4.5 STARS but I just left a small BBQ place where the food was top notch and the service was A 1. SAW'S IS A 5 STAR BBQ JOINT. There was a customer getting take out wanted to make sure it was plastic ware because she said she wasn't going to make it home. Hahahaha. Now you tell me if a place has food that GOOD that a customer can wait to get home before it's all gone. How is it a 4.5 STAR restaurant. Well I'm waiting. Hahahaha. Thanks for the Greens and Banana Putting after you guys were closed. Love Ronnie Eanes. More...
Some of the best barbecue in the south
Best BBQ not only in town, but in the region IMO. The pork is second to none, but the chicken is an extremely close second. The white sauce is fantastic.
I legitimately say best ever in a number of reviews, but in the case of Saw's ribs I have never had a rib this tender and flavorful. I strongly you suggest ordering with no sauce, or sauce on the side, because they really don't need anything in them More...
The best Bbq.

Yes to their fried green tomatoes. Yes to any of their "____ and greens" plates. Yes to their sweet tea chicken sandwich. And YES to their BBQ chips! Their banana pudding is an indulgence, for sure. I recommend sharing it with one other person because it is probably as filling as the entrees ;)We came with friends on a weekday evening and it wasn't too crowded. There was live music inside which was cool but kind of loud, so we opted for outdoor seating (dog-friendly!) which was a lot quieter. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. More...
Best BBQ in town! We love the pulled pork! My favorite spot for lunch!

I have long thought Birmingham was overrated for barbecue. Then came Saw's. It is simply the best barbecue in Alabama. Pulled pork is great, chicken is best in area, but the ribs are the best anywhere. More...
Got the smoked chicken platter with sides. Y'all that white sauce. The stuff dreams are made of. Next time though I'll get the sandwich so I don't have to mess with pulling the chicken myself. Wonderful sides (especially the mac and cheese) and friendly staff. Also have tried the BBQ sampler platter and it was great. Asked for pulled chicken on the platter for an up charge in place of a leg quarter. The platter came with pulled pork, ribs, and the pulled chicken. The pulled chicken was our favorite of the three. We were out of state customers and JC Was helpful and friendly and provided excellent service. The food was delicious especially as we were trying some new southern delicacies. Definitely 5 stars!!
Fried okra: excellentCheese grits greens and pork: excellentI would not call this a true barbecue joint. There's no brisket, sliced pork etc. It's a very limited menu of entrées but oh my they are good! First I will talk about service. This place is a little intimidating. The menu is hand written on a wall. The wall full of text. It's a little overwhelming when you come in. And unfortunately when came in there wasn't any people waiting to order. So the guy called me right up, "what are you having?"I know employees hate to hear this but I said, " this is my first time, what do you recommend." There was no condescending sigh or body language. He was very helpful and recommended a couple items. The gentleman told me their fried okra is the best and he was absolutely correct. I've never had better fried okra.I rarely give five stars. But this place deserves one. The food was amazing. Great flavors. Great imagination and great presentation. Also the dining area both inside and out had a lot of character: Music, lighting, Decour. I wish I had time to dine in but i needed take it to-go More...
If you're a barbecue fan, this place is a must try. This restaurant's location is small, so it is not designed for large groups. A positive is that they do have a small outside seating section if you would like to sit there. I ordered the smoked chicken plate with baked beans and macaroni and cheese. I was charged an extra dollar for white meat. The chicken was tasty and came with white sauce on top. The macaroni and cheese was delicious; however, the baked beans tasted like they came straight from the can with no extra seasoning. The wait time wasn't so bad and the temperature of my food was warm. Due to the restaurant being so small and packed, I was unable to see how clean the restaurant was. More...
Love love love this place. The fried okra is a must try. Their Mexican corn is delicious. Everything I have ever tried from saw's has always been great. Service is always nice also.
The BBQ is great, but the other items like the burger, fried chicken sandwich and wings put this spot over the edge. Fun atmosphere and great prices as well.
Oh my, today we had a crowd at work and the boss told everyone to write down the place we wanted to go for lunch. Everyone voted for a different restaurant and eight of the votes were for bbq places. We chose Saw's Juke Joint because everyone went "oooooh" when we read about their fried green tomatoes. These were quite good, as were the turnip greens, sweet potato fries and onion rings. Even the French fries were good and hard to stop eating. The homemade Bbq chips were quite spicy and perfect crisp texture. Some got the pork sandwich, others the smoked chicken with white sauce (which is heavenly). One diner even had a wedge salad which was "the best" with homemade blue cheese dressing. Our waitress was great - fast to refill drinks and get our food out. I wanted banana pudding but she brought our check before I could order. This place is amazing. More...
Wonderful, friendly staff. Loved the white BBQ sauce. Between everyone in our group we were able to try chicken, ribs, and pulled pork. Large pieces of meat in the chicken sandwich and pulled pork sandwich, definitely no skimping going on here. Excellent flavor to the meat. The only disappointment was the side dishes. The deviled eggs, mac and cheese, and baked beans were a little bland. Still worth it and we'll probably stop in again the next time we pass through More...
My co-workers and I went during lunch. There was nine of us. The place is small, but they were able to accommodate us. The food and customer service were great! I would definitely go there again.
Some of the best BBQ that I have ever had. It has a great smoky taste to it and some incredible sauce. Can't wait for the next time I am back to visit.
It LOOKS good! It SMELLS good! It TASTE good!
This is a great Friday/Saturday night spot. Typically there is live music in the bar area and it may seem super crowded from the parking lot but you can usually snag a table. Pro tip: order the sweet tea chicken and greens. It's not on the menu but they will let you do this. It's delicious! More...
Came here on a recommendation from a coworker and it didnt disappoint at all. Seating can be a little tight if you come in at the wrong time of day. Sat down at a table as i waited for another coworker had to find a parking space. The cashier came around and cleaned off the table and directed me to find the menus (by the front door if you have never been there before)Ordered Pulled Pork Sandwich, Potato Salad, Chili Cheese hot dog and some deviled eggs. The pulled port sandwich was tender and had a light drizzle of thin bbq sauce all over the meat and the plate. Added a bit of hot sauce for heat and then i dont know what happened but i finished the sandwich quickly. Since time went by so quickly and I started to eat the chili dog, the chili dog was a bit on the chilled side. Not an issue from the restaurant, but i wish i could ask for the second dish to be brought out about 10 minutes later than my original meal. Pretty good taste to the chili. I cannot say that I am an expert on Deviled eggs. I have had worse than the ones here, but cant say they blew my socks off. At this point i am stuff from eating everything else, the potato salad was left to rot. I couldnt handle it, but a heads up, it is finely diced potato which i never seen before. DifferentWill be back again if i ever come back to AL More...
I could eat here everyday. Everything is perfect. The sweet tea fried chicken sandwich with white sauce is the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. Their pork and greens are also very good. Great atmosphere and often has live music. We come multiple times a month. More...
Smoked chicken with white BBQ sauce will take you to heaven and back!
Great music, delicious meats and White BBQ sauce! Don't miss out on this!
The sampler platter gives you the best of everything --and the baked potatoes are huge.
Great bbq.. one of the best
Someone publication somewhere said it was one of the BBQ joints around. I don't know about it. But it's pretty solid.
Best BBQ in Birmingham in my opinion. Nobody around has ribs like they do. It is the meatiest rib I have ever had. Saw's sauce packs a Tangy sweet with a little bit of spice that is just right. Not craving BBQ? That's ok, pop over to Saw's on the side for a Saw's burger, sweet heat chicken wings or another of the tastey choices they have. You could also grab a local draft brew or they sport a full bar as well. Love this local treasure!! More...
I had the stuffed baked potato with chicken, vegetables and barbecue sauce and it amazed my dinner guests!!! My brother exclaimed: that’s not a potato, that’s a football! It was easily the biggest and the best stuffed potato of my life. More...
Was scrumptious! We had done a 12 hour day drive from Texas. Yelp led us to this place, so glad. I got the pork potato. For me it is at least two meals maybe 3. Lots of brisket on top all covered with BBQ sauce. My husband at the ribs and Mac n cheese. He devoured the Mac. He said he thought the ribs could of had more smoke flavor. The place is clean and has a rustic atmosphere. The bbq sauce has a touch of vinegar and a touch of sweet. More...
This was the best BBQ I’ve ever had!
Service was quick and friendly. We got a BBQ plate, chicken BBQ sandwich, and fried pickles and green beans. Food was delicious. I think their white sauce could've used a touch more flavor though. Finally, I wasn't a fan of them using styrofoam for plates for dining in. Investing in some reusable options would be wise on all counts, in my opinion. More...

The best pulled pork sandwich I have ever had!!! And I’m 70 years old!
Great home town flavor! The BBQ sandwich is good but the wings are awesome! Smoked wings in a white BBQ sauce. Bar area is fun on music nights. Great for lunch or hanging out at the bar watching the games. Highly recommend More...
Love the food. The white bbq sauce was delicious,it's what stood out to me the most. we ordered the one pound chicken ($25) it comes with four buns, 2sides of your choice ,a big cup of white bbq sauce, cup of pickles and two drinks. The chicken is juicy. Highly recommend mixing the white sauce with the bbq they have on the table for you. Location is rather small with one bathroom. But overall I enjoyed the atmosphere.Don't expect a fancy restaurant but do expect EXCELLENT FOOD. More...
I had the Alabama style pulled pork plate, served with tangy pickles, two slices of bread, and choice of two sides. I chose green beans and cole slaw. Everything was excellent. Brisket is often available until sold out for the day. More...
Best barbecue I have ever had.
Saw's Juke Joint is definitely a place I'll be back to when I'm in town. I'd go on to say it's a must visit for anyone coming through Birmingham. Some coworkers and I came here for lunch, and despite being busy, we were sat down and waited on immediately. Our waitress, Bee, was nice and really helpful. As far as the food goes, everyone in my group was satisfied. I got the smoked boudin plate with the cheddar cheese grits and turnip greens. Everything was delicious. This is the first time I've ever had boudin smoked, and I was not disappointed. The cheddar grits and turnip greens were both seasoned really well, and they had so much flavor. However, despite my meal being so great, the main event was the banana pudding. Honestly, it was amazing!!! I am seriously salivating as I think about it typing this review. It was definitely made with a custard, which all of the real ones know, all great banana puddings are made with custard. I definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for great food. More...
First visit and I was pleased. From our waitress Katie (who was fantastic by the way) to my sweet tea chicken sandwich, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Those fried green tomatoes (My God)! Not to mention the sauce on both was flavorful and unique, something I admire about restaurants (having something to helps them stand out). I wonder who is the cook?! Kudos to them for sure. I'll definitely go back because not only was the food good the drinks were top notch too! Misslady Scores Saw's an A) More...
We love the ribs here. They are always fast and there is outside seating, which we love to take advantage of during the spring and fall. We always walk a couple of shops over for Ice Cream afterwards. It's a great spot to dine with kids. More...
On a recent trip to Birmingham I googled best bbq and Saw's was one of the top choices and I was nearby so I gave it a shot and I was not disappointed. I ordered the sampler that included ribs, chicken and pulled pork and the ribs were definitely my favorite and were very tender. I ordered a small banana pudding for desert and they gave me a big serving of it and that was also delicious. The staff was friendly and service great so I'd definitely recommend it to anyone in Birmingham looking for a good bbq spot. More...
Best ribs I’ve had in a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ate here a couple of weeks ago and I had the best customer service experience ever.It was great will be back.....
This place is definitely packed on Saturday nights! Since parking is pretty limited, plan on parallel parking along the streets, bc that's what we did! Upon entering, we walked into about an hour wait for a 2 top around 6pm. Note: they had a live band playing that night so this might have added to the hype, I dunno. I guess you can check out their social media before going. Luckily they had a separate bar room to order drinks, which my fiancé and I made a bee-line for. Great bar vibes, just packed. If you're lucky, you might be able to grab you a seat at the sofas in the back of the bar side while you chug a beer and wait for your table. When they did call our name, they ended up sitting us outside. Which we didn't mind because on our way in we had seen some outdoor heaters. But they ended up sitting us all the way to the side where there wasn't a heater in range! Not gonna lie, it was chilly out there. Since I was already 2 beers in, I decided to stick it out so we could order our food. As far as service, our server was very attentive. She got our order in and out in less than 10 minutes! Those charred wings were so bomb, I forgot how cold it was outside lol. The only thing I wish they could do is make them spicy. But then again, I can't really complain with their signature sauce lol. Another bomb dish you HAVE to order is their fried pickles! Ugh. Just saying... As far as my fiancé's chicken sandwich, the entire bottom bun was soaked by the time it arrived to the table. Soaked as in disintegrated lol. The juicy factor was definitely there but it was a little too much for the bun to handle. I ended up giving him my 2 slices of bread, which I didn't plan on eating anyways. Overall, their food is great. I'll be back... on a weekday haha :) More...
we came from Montgomery to meet family from Nashville. and we all loved the BBQ and the Ribs! the sides were delicious! the customer service was EXCELLENT!!
Best BBQ in Birmingham by far.
Best BBQ restaurant in town. Love the vibe here and food is super Delicious. Can't wait to visit again.
Pork was delicious...sides not so good.
A wonderful quaint small hole in the wall place in delightful downtown Edgewood. All of the food is made there. For sides I had green beans & cabbage --- cooked Southern --- so, you know they were excellent. :) I had the smoked sausage -- throughly enjoyed. More...
Current favorite BBQ joint
This place was great. Awesome location and a friendly staff. Pulled pork was amazing and any bbq joint with White bbq sauce is a winner. Definetly check this place out!
Old building adds to the atmosphere.
Food is great. I love the banana pudding but the last time I went it had no cookies or and only 3 banana slices.
The banana pudding is sooooo f'in delicious...every serving size it comes in is considered a single serving to me...
Great little BBQ joint!
Best and biggest ribs in Birmingham area
Please could you always have enough rids. Don’t go late or you will miss out. Love this place.
Saws Jukebox has delicious wings and fried okra.
We arrived before opening and wasted some time at a nearby shop. Fifteen minutes after opening the line was out the door. This place is all about the barbecue and they have gotten it exactly right. Not much in the way of amenities, not many tables but Saw's is the place for barbecue in Bham. More...
the best bbq ive had in years! ao glad i found this place! you will learn my face well!
the BBQ chicken with white sauce was amazing!!
Saw's BBQ is a MUST VISIT when in Birmingham. It's crazy good food in a casual neighborhood bar.The smoked wings are INSANE: smoky, sweet, crispy, sticky, tender. I crave this dish on a weekly basis. Also, you can't miss the sweet tea fried chicken sandwich. It's like a Chick-fil-A sandwich... but much better. The chicken's perfectly crispy, and the white sauce really sets the whole thing off.Let's not forget dessert: BANANA PUDDING. Banana pudding is one of my favorite desserts of all time, and this one does not disappoint. It's not too sweet. It's perfectly creamy and texturally pretty light. More...
I'll keep it brief. Stopped in going from Nashville to New Orleans. Man. PERFECT PITSTOP. I had "The Colonel"- a fried chicken sandwich topped with pimento cheese and white bbq sauce... Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. The wife got a shrimp stuffed potato. Delicious. Banana cream pie. Good-but honestly needed more banana, but still good. Not sure when we'll pass through Birmingham again but when we do...... TIME TO SAW IT UP. More...
Absolutely. The. Best. Barbecue. If I had a “last meal” I would not think twice about ordering Saw’s bbq and side. The veggies will make you think you’ve had desert. I’m not a Mac-n-cheese fan. But, they’ve taken it to another level. Arrive early. The demand is high and seating limited. And expect to smell delicious the rest of the day. The smoke that makes it so awesome will stay with you if you dine in. But...It’s. Worth. It. Do not try to capture the melt in your mouth greatness on your phone. Pic’s fail. Words fall way too short. Saw’s is a must. More...
This is our favorite Saw's because all the saws have slightly different menus. This one is in a quite suburb of Birmingham. It has Mac n cheese. It's a smaller location. More...
My husband likes this location because it has burgers, all the saws have slightly different menus. He likes the shirts they sell at this location as well.
I moved to Birmingham from Orlando in 2017, and ALLLLLLLL everyone told me was to "EAT BBQ". Well...I did. From like, 5 different places, and they all sucked and I was disappointed. Until...I went to Saws. I wake up and go to sleep dreaming about Saws BBQ. Smoked sausage? HOLYCRAPDELICIOUS. Smoked chicken? Finger-lickin' good...literally. All of the BBQ sauces? Just pour them in my mouth. And if BBQ wasn't good enough...mac & cheese (of which, I consider myself a professional connoisseur)...YUM. Fried green beans? I'll take 3 orders please. Fried catfish? WHOSE SOUTHERN GRANDMA IS BACK THERE COOKING UP THIS AMAZING FOOD ! I've been to a couple different locations...although some are smaller than others, which might make for a bit of a crowd, it's ALWAYS worth it. Great music, great food, great people, great vibes...just great. BRB - gonna order some lunch from Saws today. More...

Best pork in town.
Divine! Super friendly staff. Anti fancy. Loved it!
Best white BBQ sauce I've ever had
Ive eaten here several times and used their catering more than once for family gatherings. food has always been good. Service has been friendly and fast
Saw's is my favorite local BBQ since moving to Birmingham. The space is tight and seating is first come first serve. Ordering is simple at the counter and they bring it to your table. The white sauce on the chicken is a must try. The sweet tea is southern approved. More...

Best bbq in Birmingham !
In town on business near UAB and found this place. Arrived near closing time but service was still good. I had the pulled pork sandwich and mac n cheese. Pork was tender and flavorful with great vinegar based sauce with a little kick. The mac n cheese was just average and seemed overcooked. More...
Terrible pictures, but this place and the atmosphere are awesome!! The wings were absolutely delicious and so were the fried pickles! My husband got a fried or Easters sandwich and had a pretty large shell in it, but it was still delicious and fresh! The onion rings are more like onion straws, but served as a great side. We sat in the bar area and loved getting to hear the live band play! I don't know why it is taking us so long to come to this restaurant but we will definitely be back very soon!!! More...
Great southern bbq in comfy little restaurant. Chili and potato salad were awesome. Sad no room for desert.
We were on a long multi-state road trip and wanted to eat local food exclusively. Seeing nice reviews, we drove out of the way to have lunch at Sal's Juke Joint, and it was absolutely worth it. We tried several things, our favorite was Pork n Greens, hands down! Put that at the top of your list if you like greens. The whole combo was unusual, but excellent. The Mac & cheese was what seems to be the norm in much of AL, but was not something I would order again. We loved the funky, honkey-tonk vibe. Two and one half years later, we still remember that great lunch and tell friends & colleagues who mention travel plans near Birmingham, to make a point to get to Saw's! Know ahead of time this is not "fancy" food, although the Pork n Greens was a creative success that could hold it's own anywhere! Parking is limited in a small strip center, abutting residential area, with neighboring shops reserving spots for their own customers. Plan for extra time spent parking, or arrive early / late. It is an experience not to be missed! And get a bottle of sauce to to take home, you'll be craving more. More...
It's a crime than anyone rated Saw's less than 5-stars. This is the best BBQ I've had. From the hole-in-the-wall location, to the smokey after-smell on my clothes and GREAT BBQ - This is everything you want your BBQ to be.
My tastebuds have been captivated by Saw's whose barbecue has become my gold standard. Every other BBQ spot in Bham just seems merely meh now. There's just something about the Saw's pulled pork that gets me every time. So super succulent and divine. You cannot fail with the ribs or chicken either. That vinegar sauce too, amazing. And the vinegary turnip greens and not-too-sweet baked beans, yes please. I like to order the pulled pork plate ($13.50) which has a pile of the drool-inducing pulled pork, two slices of Wonderbread-ish white bread, and two sides, along with pickles. Owner-chef Mike Wilson hails from North Carolina, hence the vinegar emphasis. Apparently Saw stands for "Sorry Ass Wilson," a high school nickname of his. Well, Mr. Wilson should now be called "Super Amazing Wilson" since Saw's is certainly the pride of Birmingham and beyond. Saw's is closet-sized so try and come early or at an off-peak time. And they can and do run out of offerings, another reason to turn up well before closing. Order at the counter, fill up your drink cup, and then nab a table. Parking? Find a space either on Oxmoor or in the lot at the northwestern corner of Oxmoor and St. Charles, entrance on St. Charles. And if you can't make it to the Homewood Saw's for some reason, the Soul Kitchen and the Juke Joint are also highly recommended by me. They have a little empire now, it seems, with a cozy new bar/eatery next door. More...
We just happen to come up on this little place to eat. The food, atmosphere and service was wonderful. The bathroom was even clean, and believe me that is a big deal to me. Only reason I'm giving it a 4 star and not 5 is cause the homemade chips were way to salty! But truly this is a 5 star place. More...

Fantastic food and great customer service!
Excellent taste BBQ rib and chicken
This is some of the best BBQ you can get in the Birmingham Metro Area. During peak hours, you will probably have to wait, but they are pretty quick at turning tables. Grab a drink and see if you can grab a seat on the couch next to the fireplace. I have never had a bad experience with the staff here. They are always on top of things and friendly too. The drinks here are great, which means strong by my definition. They got a good beer list too that's fairly priced. You can't go wrong with any side here. If they're in season, get the okra. It's incredible. If you're feeling hungry, I'd go with a pork baker. They bake the potato to perfection and the pork is the best pulled pork this city has to offer. The sweet tea fried chicken sandwich is also killer. If you're looking for something more keto-friendly, order the smoked wings. They are the best wings in the city and worth the price imo. The white sauce that comes on them is better than what they have in Decatur. If you're coming to Birmingham and want to see how we do BBQ. Get yourself to Saw's Juke Joint More...
Easy to get off and on I65 on your way to wherever.
We were traveling back to TX and had one night in Birmingham -- and as always, we wanted local fare. Saws Juke Joint ended up being close to our hotel -- with a very cool spot on the edge of a neighborhood. The "Pork & Greens" was what got us there -- and it was just fantastic...amazing comfort food. We also had fried pickles -- some of the best we've ever had.Other entrees our group tried were Smoked Sausage (very good!) and the Iced Tea Chicken Sandwich -- which was incredibly tasty.Would have loved to try their bread pudding -- but we were too stuffed! Maybe next time! More...
