The staff to customer ratio is high here so you get served very fast and your glass is kept topped up! This did mean expenditure was on the high side but if you want a treat where the food & drink is both delicious I recommend a visit to this restaurant. It would be nice if they could offer a 3 course deal with wine pairings as going for the chef tasting is a lot of courses and obviously very expensive for most. More...

Outstanding brunch at this contemporary stylish restaurant. The red and grey decor colours just popped visually for me. I had a Veggie Eggs Benny and it was delicious. All the ingredients were super fresh. It came with Poached Eggs, Avocado, Mushrooms, Smoked Tomato, Goat’s Cheese, and Hollandaise. The smokiness of the tomato made this dish stand out for me. I have dined at Saveur a number of times, both for the tasting menu as well as a la carte, and each time has been incredible. Chef Rob Cassels is an amazing chef and this is one of, if not the top spot in Victoria for fine cuisine. I have sampled every dish on the menu and each has been perfectly cooked and presented each time. Some of the highlights for me are the chicken wings and pork belly appetizers and the halibut and beef mains. The service and ambiance are also top-notch. I went here over a year ago and still think about it. As a vegetarian it can be hard to find a good tasting menu - and this one is the best I've ever had. My favourite restaurant in Victoria! Food tastes so good and presentation is amazing. Pricier dishes but well worth it for a special evening.2nd Review: My fiance and I just went there again for brunch and we were both wow'ed by the presentation of the dishes. We both ordered the seared tuna salad and everything tasted so good! The avocado was sliced and presented in such a pretty way. The flavour of the tuna was amazing. When I came across a French restaurant in Victoria with a tasting menu I knew we had to try it but I didn’t have high expectations. Victoria has good food, but surely it couldn’t measure up to tasting menus we’ve experienced from celebrity chefs in New York, Las Vegas, and Vancouver, especially in a restaurant I’ve never heard of. Well, I was wrong. OK, it couldn’t quite match the Mario Batali 10-course tasting menu we had 14 years ago in New York, but our dinner at Saveur was a pretty close second. It started with a pea puree that was so far beyond our mundane expectations that it made me giggle with delight. And the other courses were all just as delicious and full of flavours. Add to that the good service and fantastic wine pairings from staff that obviously enjoy being a part of Saveur and it was an unexpectedly enjoyable meal.At the end of the meal we had one small issue that came up in conversation – a personal issue that was no fault to the food, service, or facility – but the staff still went above and beyond to make sure that we left the restaurant completely satisfied with our experience. Impressed!! I didn't know of Saveur until a month or so ago and finally got the chance to try it this morning with my friend and our girls. Not the most kids friendly place in terms of no kids menu etc. But the staffs wee very accommodating and friendly. Amazing menu choices for brunch. Spectacular high-end farm-to-table (mostly) food preparation and excellent wine selections make this restaurant a stand-out, even in the relatively competitive if small Victoria dining scene. Chicken wings with intense but approachable sauce were cooked sous vide AND fried AND grilled. Soba noodles had a pea miso sauce with mushrooms and arugula leaves, yet hinted at mint (even if there was none). Ling cod in sauce was delicate yet flavourful; the outer fish flesh was perfectly crisped. The beef filet, well worth its expense, was not overwhelmed by a perfectly balanced sauce, mushrooms and crisp potato “roastini.” The rhubarb custard desert included dehydrated rhubarb chips as well as crunchy rhubarb meringue in white chocolate cream — a coup de grace. Leave the kids — and your dietary scruples — at home, unless you’re going here for brunch, where kids and scruples will be fine. More...

Amazing experience with my three kids. My two older ones tried everything, the 9 year old tried most everything. We ordered two snacks, two appetizers, two main courses and two desserts, which was a reasonable amount of food for the 4 of us. Flavor combinations were rich, complex yet approachable / understandable. Tasting courses looked amazing (but some of portion sizes looked small). Saveur is a West Coast-French restaurant where food is to be savoured amid conversation and drink. Not being a drinker myself I will only speak about my dining experience. At the time of this writing Saveur has only been open less than a year. The space is cavernous, the decor industrial chic. My dining companion and I found the place a little drafty despite seated next to the kitchen. The bright kitchen light was somewhat distracting. I'd suggest sitting in the middle of the dining room. The food was excellent--well seasoned, fresh and creative. We had the chick pea snack, and the beet terrine for our appetizer. The entrees were the lentil and broccoli pakora, and the ricotta and ling cod. The cod was excellent and the lentils had pickled fennel which delightfully added zip to the lentils. The pakora was a little soggy as we think service was a little slow at getting the plate out so it steamed itself a little. However, we still enjoyed the meal very much. The service was attentive, courteous and knowledgable. We would definitely return but give them another few months to work out the minor kinks. More...

Our visit to the Saveur Restaurant was a unique and very pleasant experience. First, we arrived just before 6pm and were able to choose our table. The four of us chose the table in the window which gave us a view extending from the three chefs in the open kitchen to the activities in the street.Second, we could choose from three separate menus: the Chef's Tasting, the Chef's Vegetarian Tasting and the a la carte. The Tasting menus each had five courses with an optional wine pairing for each course. One of us chose the Vegetarian and the other three the Chef's Tasting.Third, three very nice and articulate servers in various combinations presented the five courses one after another over the next couple of hours. Each serving was exquisite in appearance and taste. Even the bowls, plates and cutlery were each unique. There was a connection between the abstract art on the walls and the servings on our plates. The tasting menus are an exquisite dining experience. The flavours in the dishes are nicely balanced. The lemon pudding on the vegetarian menu was delicious, however, the pear profiterole not so much. I wished they served the molten chocolate cake on the tasting menu. It looked great on the other tables. The plating looked beautiful and added to the whole experience. Overall the dinner was almost perfect, letdown by just a few mistakes. We arrived for our reservation ten minutes early, but were seated thirty minutes past our reservation time because the tables were still full. Almost twenty minutes past our reservation time, the wait staff finally took notice of us and offered complimentary drinks while we waited. During our meal, an ingredient was left out of the dish twice and brought to our table after our meal was already served. There was one dish where the waiter couldn't pronounce/remember the whole introduction. For the price they are charging and the level of service they are aiming for, this was a little bit of a disappointment. However, overall a pleasant and tasty experience. We read about this place online and during a long weekend, made a reservation here for dinner. Is located just a bit outside the main downtown corridor, but is it easily within walking distance of the majority of hotels.It's got a great look inside, with low lighting in the nice combination of industrial and modern type decour. Lots of exposed pipes, a nice bar and simple, elegant seating and tables.They have a tasting menu for $65 per person that is five courses and looked quite good. None of us are hungry enough to do a tasting menu so we decided to do Allah cart. We were a bit surprised at the relatively small number of options on the menu. We have not done a lot of dining in Victoria, so I'm not sure what normal is, but nonetheless it was a pretty limited menu.We ended up trying a number of different appetizers and splitting one main dish. The three appetizers that we shared were the crispy chickpeas, the chicken wings and two orders of the pork belly. All were very good, but the one that stood out the most of these was interestingly the crispy chickpeas. These were very good, had a good flavor, just enough salt and a nice crunch. They did seem more like something you would have at a Gastro pub rather than a nicer place like this, but they worked well.We also split one of the main dishes - the chicken. It to had a very nice flavor and presentation. The gnocchi that came along with it was very good and added a nice undercurrent of flavor to the chicken.The wine list was not extensive, but got the job done. The drink menu had some fun stuff on it and the bartender seemed to know what he was doing, though they interestingly did not have cherries for topping off drinks.All in all, we were well taken care of and enjoyed the meal, though it didn't blow our socks off. Based on the tasting menu, I figured they would have a few more à la cart options, but c'est la vie. We ultimately were happy with the choice to dine here and it made for a very enjoyable evening. What I really don't understand is why this place is not full with a long waitlist. Every night. We came on a slow Wednesday and the chef assured me that they were full the rest of the week. If that is the case be sure to get a reservation and get here. The food is amazing. We did the tasting menu. A veggie option along with a meat/fish option. Both were excellent combinations of flavors. The chef mixes things up quite a bit and there were three new dishes tonight that he had not served before. They were all new to us. We often hedge on wine pairing because too often it's too much. This time it was just right. Probably about one full bottle of tastings between us. The combinations were right on! There was only one pairing where I disagreed but left myself open to the new combinations. I won't describe each dish but will attach pictures of everything we had. It was all so good. Will definitely return next time I'm in town and see what the chef comes up with next. More...

Spectacular tasting menus (regular plus vegetarian). Every dish felt like it had at least 7-8 flavors. Capable service, but this was the one area that could have been improved: we had to ask three times to get more of the (gorgeous) bread, and they mixed up who was having what more often than not. The wine pairings worked wonderfully with the food, even if the portions weren't terribly generous, and didn't wow us on a first taste. But the food completely made up for it. We'll be back. More...

Rob is an amazing chef. The decor and ambiance of this little restaurant made for a very romantic evening for my wife and I. We both tried the Tasting menus and we were not disappointed. Service and food was absolutely spectacular. The space is smaller and intimate while still being well staffed. This means that you get best service. The food is experimental and in a good way because each dish tasted phenomenal. We had the chef tasting menu and the vegetarian one as well so that we had more to try. We also did one wine pairing and it was great. Highly recommend a date night here (if you have the funds for a luxurious meal). More...

We did the chef's tasting menu and the vegetarian tasting menu. Each of the 5 dishes on each of the 2 tasting menus was carefully crafted so that it had several distinctive unique and uncommon flavors that came together in a beautiful way. Doing this for one dish is impressive for 10 dishes it is simply incredible!I highly recommend doing the wine pairing with the tasting menu. On some dishes the wine made the dish and on others the dish made the wine. Executive Chef Rob Cassels is truly a rising star in the culinary industry, and Front of House Manager Ryan McGibbon was exquisite; he made impressive drinks he provided exquisite detail on the food served and nailed the complicated wine names from all across the world on top of that he is one of the most likable personable people I have ever encountered. A warm greeting, efficient, knowledgeable and very friendly service, all accompany a spectacular Chef's Tasting Menu. There's the incredibly tasty tuna tartar, braised scallop, succulent mushroom risotto, and short rib tastes, through to the finale, molten chocolate cake, with expresso-infused, toasted quinoa, leaves you wanting more.
