My coworker in California went to college here in Gainesville and recommended Satchel's as a place to eat. I'm in town through the weekend and decided to dine at Satchel's on my first night here. I love the unique ambiance at this place. My server explained the menu and recommended the salad which was delicious. She also explained to me that they make they're own soft drinks too. So I enjoyed a root beer with a salad and a slice of pizza. A very nice meal for $20. The salad was enough for 2 people. My only disappointment was the Cash Only policy. Who carries cash anymore? I'm on a 18-day business trip and have limited cash on hand. 4 out 5 stars because of the cash only policy More...
We love stopping in to Satchel's just to keep up with the ever evolving artwork and goings on around the property. Love the new plant nursery too!
Great food and service.
Great pizza and great service. Probably one of my favorite restaurants in Gainesville. It is a cash-only restaurant so plan ahead.
No better place for pizza in Gainesville. We travel a lot and eat a lot of pizza around the world and Satchel's ranks right up there. Just wish it wasn't so far off I-75 and we'd eat there more often. If the weather is nice, Eat in the bus!! More...
Great food and fun atmosphere for kids.
Satch himself came and took a photo of our group and made a birthday card for one of our party who was celebrating her birthday!
Ambiance is great, staff is friendly, beer is hoppy, pizza is good. The pizza actually burned and cut the roof of my mouth that took me days to recover from, so no matter how hungry, let the pizza cool for a minute or two. They actually forgot our second pizza and were apologetic about. They comped the pizza and threw in warm cookies. I still enjoyed myself and will bring people here in the future. More...

The most delicious calzone ever! The Mama with artichoke hearts, feta cheese, sausage and tomatoes. Oh, my! And salad.
Great pizza. Great deserts. Amazing service. We come a lot and don't regret it. The only down side to it is that you have to pay with cash. So the first time we went we had a whole meal without cash. Our friend drove down and gave us cash, but it was a very long drive from Gainesville. Great restaurant over all. More...

Omg so glad we found this place! The pizza is so delicious ... the salad was huge, The 4 of us could have gotten the 2 person salad- we had half left over so we. Oils leave space for PIZZA!!! Such a cool environment too. We'll visit every time we're in town!! More...
great place, great food, great staff.
This place was really fun and the pizza was pretty good too! Had the white pizza which could've used more salt but was otherwise good. The place itself is cool with a toy shop and other random things all around. The service was weird though. Our server took our drink order, then another server came by, then the original took our order, followed by another server. Then we asked a server for salt and they went to 4 other tables and never brought the salt. So strange! Definitely will go back though. More...
Pretty much some of the best pizza I’ve had since moving down from NY. Can’t wait to go back again!
Great pizza! Vegan options, easy to order. Just a long wait time is all but there is a cool shop to look around in and kill some time while you wait to be seated.
Such a great place. We love it a little extra because they have lots of food restrictions friendly options. Their gluten and dairy free pizza is pretty solid as well. The salad is always amazing, and we love their special sodas. More...
The best deep pizza!! Get the pesto one. The cheese is melted on the edges not dough- the taste will keep you coming back for more!!
Quirky little restaurant in the middle of nowhere! Went for lunch (go early...very popular and fills up fast) Our table had a calzone, pizza and salad. All very good but do NOT miss the salad! NOTE: they do not take credit/debit cards so bring cash (there is an ATM next door) More...

Satchel's has a great pizza served in an ecclectic atmosphere. Had the best pizza I ever ate there.. even beats Leonardo’s!
This place is so cool. The decorations are fun to look at. Comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered a large deep dish pizza and it didn't disappoint. All 4 of us ate, left very full, and still had plenty of leftovers for another full meal. Their salad was also delicious. This is a foodie must have. The service was pleasant and they were attentive. We enjoyed this place very much. More...
Satchel's is the type of place I want to review using one sentence...but I feel like I'd be short-changing a place that deserves a short story. This is the type of place that the kitsch alone steers me toward an above average review. If you don't enjoy the odd, artistic, misplaced or reinvented use of oddities and functional fare, you're not likely to stop here anyhow. The place is a mishmash of fun and practical. Who'd have thought? While you're waiting for your order to be delivered, take turns perusing the gift shop that you'll likely be visiting after your meal anyhow. Just a little preview of what you want to purchase. The food and service were both spectacular. They make food without overdoing it. Same with their service. Satchel's is the type of place that shows you that "more" does not necessarily "up" the quality. Keep it simple and spot on! Beer was good and the kids loved the craft sodas!I'll definitely be back as this is one of the best places to eat while in Gator country!Try: The Satch Salad...and any pie. Seriously, don't skip the salad! Then go buy the salad dressing in the gift store so you can fail at recreating it at home.Avoid: Trying to fit fat folks in the VW bus. C'mon...you knew better! Cash-only establishment with delicious pizza and dessert! My friend and I were in Gainesville on a weekend trip, and our hosts highly recommended a visit to Satchel's Pizza for a meal. We stopped by for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon, and we were seated immediately. The place is casual with lots of funky decor indoors and outdodors. We couldn't stop taking pictures.[PIZZA]You have the option to create your own slice (add your own toppings) or order their version of a supreme pizza. I ordered a slice of "The Major" (the supreme), and I was not disappointed. The crust texture is everything! It has a slight crisp on the outside, but is very light/fluffy on the inside. [DESSERT]The dessert menu is extremely clever. They have images printed on a reel for a View Master toy, so you can flip through them as you eat. I ordered the apple cinnamon cheesecake (or something along those lines). It was amazing! The cheesecake was the perfect texture, and the apple crumble on top was delicious! I highly recommend ordering at least one dessert. A great casual pizza place for a hangout with friends or a chill date. The food won't disappoint. More...

So THIS is what the buzz is all about. The quirky psychedelic staple has moved near the top of my to do list in Hogtown when I visit . Me , BWR & DD's enjoyed slices and scratch made salad on our 1st trip here. Loved the quality and "richness" of ingredients. Saw how they have a greenhouse outback for herbs and prolly some of the other veggies. My spinach and sundried tomato slice was superb, and the anchovies on my other piece were top shelf. On 2nd trip enjoyed Tempeh on a slice as a great deee-lish alternative. Salad beyond fresh, my only suggestion would be to have a less sweet dressing choice alternative & a bit more consistency from visit to visit. Since the slices seem to be a bit overcooked (both X's) which crunches up the crust, definitely from here on out I will be ordering whole pizzas and the full-size salad v/s slices and small salad. Hurrah to great ingredients and timely , friendly wait staff. Ohhhh... don't forget the craft sodas or hooooge cookies. More...

I had the Mama, a single slice of of pie with any 4 toppings. The food was incredible. Chef personally brought me a replacement slice after making a small error in the first one. I thought it showed great integrity and good will for him to do that unasked. Decór is quite unique and fun. Indoor and outdoor seating available. The patio tables are surrounded lush greenery. The flooring and tables are a fun and unique addition to the decór. Enjoyed our pizza, and the salad was out of this world. Love the dessert menu! I definitely recommend. More...

Eclectic, quirky little pizza joint!
It's pretty good pizza with a "vibe." I love being able to put "things" on my pizza. I can get as fancy as I want. I got anchovies and garlic and spinach. I also like when there are "lunch deals" because then I feel like I'm a part of a negotiation which is great because I like arguing. The deal came with a salad. My boyfriend, a pizza enthusiast, calls the pizza "decent" and the service "fine." I think those are fair assessments. I'm slightly warmer on the meal because I also enjoy thinner crusts. It makes me feel less like utter shit. Oh, right, the vibe, imagine what an interior designer might do with a recycling bin. Hubcaps, glass bottles and decorative plastic are repurposed from the neighborhood hoarders, turning trash into ornament. This makes the outside seating charming; you can, in fact, eat inside an old broken down VW bus. (Maybe next time.) I'll visit again, why not. Next time it'll be for dinner and beer. More...
Great time and food! Yummy!
A favorite since they opened, best pizza and eating experience in Gainesville!
First impression: like a flea market threw upSecond impression: eclectic, kitchy Salad was generous and delicious - 5 starsGluten reduced pizza: was pretty good. Meaning: choices for delicious GF pizza are so limited in this area. So this is an ok choice. Crust kinda dry but ok. Not worth eating the leftovers. However I appreciated that there was a pizza I could order when out to eat with family. The normal pizza, thin crust, according to the family was ok. Nothing to brag about. Satchel's has to be one of the most unique places here is Gainesville. The pizza is so good and even the salad. Usually I do not eat salad when I am at a pizza place but there is nothing like Satchel's salad it's a MUST HAVE. I recently had a baby and was told I could not have dairy. I was so sad at the thought of not being able to go to Satchel's but I went a few weeks ago with friends and found out about their Indy Pizza. It's a personal sized "vegan" pizza and it was delicious. More...
We loved this place and will return! So much fun and unique decor! I love the toys, some over 50 years old! The bar was laid back for lunch and the staff was so helpful and accommodating. The calzone and salad were both huge and fresh! There's something for everyone. They offer 2 types of vegan cheese and it's fantastic.I look forward to coming back here and want to see the band. They have a garden room outside to eat, a play area for kids, and a restaurant area. I couldn't be happier with my visit. More...

Nice relaxing atmosphere and delicious pizza!
Great pizza and enjoyed the live music
My doctor told me about this place so we went and OMG! This little gem is a must go to! We went on a Tuesday night which you would expect to be slow. NOPE we had to wait 30 minutes for a table. They are always crazy busy. They are great for families and even have a small playground for the kids while you wait or go to back building and shop in store or have a drink in the bar. The food is unbelievable. Pizza and salad and calzones. We got the satchel pan and shared with 3 of us and we still had leftovers to take home. This was like heaven in a pan! So if In Gainesville, you must check this out. More...
Every good college town has its popular quirky hangouts that make the area unique. In Gainesville, Satchel's is one of those places. I went to Satchel's the other day for lunch with some business associates, as that is the sort of thing you do when you have guests from out of town. You don't take them to some chain restaurant that they can go to in any town across the nation... you take them to that which represents the local area... in that, I believe Satchel's excels in.This place has what you would expect for a local attraction... quirky artwork, interesting seating arrangements (ask for the bus... though unless you have kids, I expect you will do this once, then never again... the bench seats in it are not exactly the most comfortable), and a store out back that sells all of those items that you might remember as a kid as being the fun little toys you wish you had. Be ready for a couple of things if you go... if you order a full pizza, expect a wait. Their oven is not very big, and if it is even moderately busy pizzas can take a long time to arrive at your table. Also, this is a cash-only establishment, so forget using your credit card. They do have an ATM whose proceeds go towards charity, so if you have a bank that reimburses you for ATM charges, that is a great way to go since the bank will be the one making the charitable donation! They have their own sodas brewed in-house, so if you are up for that, they seem pretty good. On tap they also have a number of local brews, so that is always good too. I ordered up the salad and a slice lunch special, which is a pretty popular order. The salad is quite good, and they have a variety of dressings that range from vinaigrette to... vinaigrette. OK, the variety there isn't all that wide, but it is still a good salad. The pizza is really pretty run of the mill. New York style (they do have a pan pizza, but you are going to pay a pretty penny for it) pizza with a wide variety of toppings that provide lots of vegetarian options. I went with a Hawaiian slide with onions, because those are my favorite toppings. The pizza was alright, but really I have had much better. The other item that Satchel's does well is their calzones... I have had them in the past and enjoyed them. We finished up our meal, paid, and were out of there. It was a decent lunch for a group of folks that needed something to keep them going while performing an installation, and that is all that we could have asked for. More...

Love, Love, LOVE Satchel’s! It is a must-stop in Gainesville...even if you are going from California to NYC...LOL.
Best deep-dish pizza and really great salads! Atmosphere is family friendly and a lot of fun. This will be one of our regular spots when we move to Gainesville! #bigmove2019
Fun, uniquely Gainesville place, with great pizza, nice choice of draft beers, and some great local talent playing a variety of music on open-mic night. Get there early to get a table!

Art , interesting decor & home made food items!
I've eaten here plenty of times for dinner but never for lunch. They have a great deal for lunch- a slice of pizza and a salad for $7! Their salad is to die for. I have never come and not ordered the salad. I didn't realize I could get a thick satch pan slice for lunch and I was so happy that they asked if I wanted it! My go to order is the satch pan with basil, garlic, and sun dried tomatoes. For 50 cents a topping i could recreate my favorite pizza for lunch. I also love their root beer and this is the only place that I order soda. On top of great food this is the best place to bring guests who are visiting Gainesville for the first time. The decorations are unique and you find something new every time you walk in. Their gift shop is the perfect place to wait when they're busy and kids love it! More...
Really fun pizza joint. Great pizza but amazing salad. Quirky gift shop and cool outside dinning area. Will be back.
Satchel's is one of my favorite places to take people when they visit Gainesville. Not only do they have great quality pizza, the restaurant also offers a unique atmosphere you can't get anywhere else.On this particular visit, my group and I (finally) had the opportunity to sit in the van out front. It made a typical dinner so fun and memorable. Our service was wonderful, as usual. The pizza is great quality and giant! It's definitely some of the best you kind find at this price point. I love the Mama because of the wide variety of toppings. Just don't forget to bring cash, as they don't accept cards here! More...

Pizza was superb, salad was delicious and the root beer is the best I have ever tasted!
Good beer, great pizza and Bluegrass.
This is really a cool place to eat pizza. Many friends suggested here to me. I have tried once, and it's delicious!
The best Italian restaurant in town! the simplest pasta dish is as delicious as the most expensive! My favorite is lasagna.
I can't believe it took me 3 years, but I finally made it to Satchel's. Wow this is a unique restaurant and I can see what the big fuss is about. Make sure to allow plenty of time because it is busy place. We ordered a few things and everyone was more than pleased with their meals. My only wish was for them to have a "truly" gluten free pizza or more gluten free options besides the salad. This is definitely a Gainesville staple! More...

Love this place! Love the atmosphere!
Awesome pizza, awesome people, awesome atmosphere! And thank you for your special treat for our Road Warrior Rabbit!
Very kool atmosphere. Music. Decor is eccentric. Gotta go!
Our hotel recommended going here because it's "iconic" Gainesville. Quoted a 20-25 minute wait which was more like 15!. The Satch Salad family size lives up to its name and was delicious. We ordered a medium hamburger and pepperoni pizza which was really delicious. 6 slices was plenty for the three adults after the huge salad. The toppings were plentiful with a hint of garlic butter to the crust! We sat in the van which for our first time going there was a must. It's a bit cramped and won't be repeated but definitely a great first-time necessity. The back half had live music and fantastic craft beers on tap. The only trouble we had was our take out order didn't have pepperoni on half like we ordered. Unfortunately, we didn't realize it until we were back at the hotel. Looking forward to going again our next time in town! More...
i was recommended to go here from my boss. it was a restaurant with a unique design. the owners seem to have put art that was recycled from metal trash. restaurant was very colorful and with little trinkets hanging from the ceiling. hand designed menu was colorful and artsy; i had to ask questions about items on the menu but my server gave me good and accurate answers. i ordered a large 18 inch pizza. i ate 3 slices (maybe 1200 kcal total), since it was quite filling. i ordered a pizza with half pepperoni and half pineapple. it took me 3 meals to finish (because it felt like alot of calories). they played 80s and 90s music on the intercom. there was a mostly young crowd there(under40) although about 20% of clients may havr been over 40. i like the idea of supporting a organization that recycles and even makes art of trash. i will definitely be back. More...
The food was good but not as good as I expected. I love the atmosphere and all the recycled and re used stuff! Our server was excellent, however, a guy named "Almond" brought out salads and was extremely rude. Probably won't go back. Oh... the store in the back was fun! More...

Best pizza in Florida!!!!!
Satchel's is my go-to whenever I'm in Gainesville. I love the eclectic vibe and the old VW bus parked right outside (that you can actually eat in). The back half of Satchel's burned down not too long ago, so they rebuilt the Lightning Salvage shop where there's a variety of trinkets and toys for purchase and even added on a bar which is a great place to hang out while you're waiting for your table. The garden area is beautiful and is my favorite place to eat in, there's stained glass everywhere and lots of shade. They make their own homemade sodas which is unique, you won't find any Diet Coke here. We both went with the Stevie Z and it was pretty good. For our pizza we went with the Medium Mama pizza (which comes with 4 toppings) with Ricotta, Spinach, Mushrooms, and Steak. Our pizza didn't take very long to come out, though they do warn you it could take up to 45 minutes. The crust was so buttery and fluffy and the pizza had the perfect amount of toppings to sauce ratio. There was no skimping on the toppings, either.Service was okay, nothing special. The waitress seemed annoyed to even be there, forget having to service us. Satchel's is cash only, but there is an ATM inside. You don't pay at your table either, you bring your receipt inside and pay at the counter. More...
Great folks, great food, fun & funky vibe! If you haven't experienced Satchel's you are missing out!

AWESOME pizza! Phenomenal eclectic location to visit as well!
This is my favorite place to go when I am in Gainesville, the food is fabulous and the service is also! I could spend hours looking at the walls and gifts! Always a great time!!
Best restaurant in Gainesville. ♥️
Such a good pizza place! I'd only ever had it at an event I went to, but eating it fresh was much better. Two friends and I got the medium-size mama (cheese with any 4 toppings) with basil, sausage, onion, and mushrooms. It was a good size with 6 slices, and they did not skimp on the toppings. The crust was cooked well, and it had more bite to it than being soft and doughy, which I enjoyed. The interior is really eclectic and cool, and each table has something different under the glass. Ours had Nancy Drew book covers, and the one next to us had different currencies.Would recommend this place to friends! More...

Great food, friendly customer service and awesome music!
I really enjoyed my experience at Satchel's. The ladies and I went after class for some pizza, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was! - This place is CASH ONLY. I repeat, CASH ONLY. Weird in 2018 right? Whatever. - Good service but took a while. - Pizza slices are LARGE. I ordered two and only finished about one and a half, and I was hungry. - Calzones look amazing - my friend ordered one. They are also large, so make sure you're hungry! -Toppings are GOOD. I got fresh basil and pepperoni, fresh garlic, and green peppers. Order "the mama" and get whatever four toppings you want. It's worth it. Dang it, now I'm hungry and it's 10:32am. More...
In this college town, pizza places are literally on every corner but Satchel's definitely stands out as one of the best! Gainesville sure loves this place - that became apparent to me when I started seeing Satchel's bumper-stickers on cars all around town. Now that I've been here, I can certainly see what all the hype is about. The atmosphere is funky and fun. They have an old VW bus out front with booth inside - you can choose to eat your pizza here if you're into it! The patio seating is very appealing on a nice day - they've got a cute little garden adorned trinkets, hubcaps, etc. The waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. The food here is exceptional! The menu is pretty concise - they have pizza, calzones and salad. As far as I'm concerned, you can't go wrong with any of it. I am sooo glad we tried the salad - it was one of my favorite salads I've ever had at a restaurant! The dressing is so good and I just found out that they sell it by the bottle at Ward's Supermarket! The pizza is fantastic as well and very reasonably priced. They have lots of good topping options and I can't wait to try more combos. Their pizza dough/crust is really good too. I've only tried the hand-tossed so far but I think on my next trip I will try the deep-dish. Thank goodness I finally tried this place, so I can officially jump on the Satchel's bandwagon! More...

Terrific! Expensive but worth it. By far the best pizza in town and even their salads are good. The atmosphere is also something to visit Satchel's for.

Satchel's Pizza was a great spot for me and some of my Bumble BFF's to grab dinner together. Satchel's was super accommodating for all of us and the amount of people in our group. Rethink, repurpose, reuse. If you think these are dull, goody two shoes words you've never eaten at Satchel's, whether inside an old VW bus, in a room alight with old stained glass windows, or in the greenhouse. Or maybe just at a table adorned with mosaic (benches too). It's enough to make you think about all those little bits of stuff that accumulate and why aren't you clever enough to form them into a 3D mosaic that includes both poker chips and plastic squirrels?!? This place has an awesome vibe. It's whimsical and fun. And pet friendly!! The pizza is good, and the dessert menu comes on a viewfinder! Plus they have house made sodas and good looking salads. But it's the atmosphere that will hook you. More...
Pulled up to an amazing atmosphere! Quaint little spot, sat in the vw van outside , really nice server and the pizza was delicious. Good place to take a date for sure. More...

Great pizza, cool place. I love their salad also! So many fun trinkets to walk around and look at. Definitely a one of a kind place. You'll never forget it.
The hippest pizza place in town. Not a huge fan of pizza, but I have to say, it was pretty good. The ambiance is something you probably can't get anywhere else! It's a great place to go celebrate for something, or a great place to go out with your friends. Just be warned, it's cash only. More...
My kids and I were in Gainesville recently for a game and decided to finally try the much talked about Satchel's Pizza. I've seen photos and had friends rave, so I didn't even check out the menu or info, just put it in the map and went. Overall, great place that we'll be back to.Pros:-Eclectic and fun atmosphere that includes one table in a WV bus outside, beautiful garden seating and stained glass windows.-Small kids play area for while you wait-Service! Everyone pitched in for every table, and were quick and friendly. A mistake was made on an item and they were very helpful in fixing and apologizing.-The Satchel salad was SO good, full of healthy things and a bit of parm and tossed in a house balsamic. Options to add are ham or feta for $2 and I went with ham. They are sharing size, but since I wasn't eating pizza, I ate the salad for 2 alone and was very full.- You can get basic slices for $3 each that are good size. We opted for this for my kids vs a full pizza.- Vegan pizza option- Bar & Toy Store in back. Odd combo but fun!- The deep dish pizza at the next table looked like a dream.- Cheese slices were exactly as you'd hope.Cons:- menu is pizza, calzones and one salad. Nothing more (had hoped for wings and or a sandwich for one of my kids)- only have all natural soda, which is fine except my son ordered a sprite and rye natural lemon lime soda that came was a surprise. I saw them on menu but didn't realize there weren't also standard sodas. So that was a complete waste of $3 when he didn't like it.- cash only, with an ATM inside that charges 1.50 but reportedly is donated to charity though not sure which. Plus the charge from my bank makes that a $4 mistake for me not having enough. Plus, sketch ATMs (not owned/services by major bank) are never my choice.- you're told up front on the menu to expect up to 45 mins for your order. We didn't experience that, likely due to the salad and slices only order.Next time, I'm indulging and getting pizza! And hopefully will time it right for a seat in the bus. More...
Loved it !
I've tried various combinations of pizza here (pepperoni, sausage, tomato basil) which were all solid, and especially enjoyed making my own topping pizza with bbq tempeh, sundried tomato, and mushrooms, on top of pesto sauce (it sounds like a random combo but it was surprisingly good!)I know that they also have a vegan pizza, which tastes a bit more rich and the dough was less soft, but it's an option nonetheless. The salad here is known to be really good as well. It has greens, carrots, apples, and they even put in pecans or walnuts for good luck! Besides really good pizza and salad, I really enjoyed the eclectic decor of this place!I highly recommend bringing guests from out of town, which was what I did, and she was impressed by the cool decorations and of course, the iconic satchels car that you can dine in! (I'm saving that for next time when the weather is not so hot) After we ate, we went out back and found this really nice space with lots of plants, a fountain with miniature decorations, and even a huge plane that looks to be mounted to the roof. I imagine this space is for overflow seating, and would be perfect to sit in the cool night time. More...

Located in back section of Satchel's Pizza, where live entertainment is presented along with an eclectic collection of unusual gift items.
Awesome from beginning to end. Pizza was amazing. Our family had the traditional and also the deep dish pan pizza. The deep dish crust was light and buttery and pie was cooked to perfection! Great salad as a starter and cannolis were a perfect finish. Staff is wonderful. Great vibe. Very eclectic art, sculptures and decorations. Felt like going to a friends house for dinner!!! More...
Bring cash, enjoy pizza Loved the quirky atmosphere. The staff was great handing our large table like pros. Adults and kids loved the pizza. The dessert menu items on the viewmaster were genius advertising! More...
I love Satchel's! We always do a simple cheese pie and their salad. Cannolis are yummy too. Not a fan of the deep dish.
Very relaxed atmosphere. Great pizza and loved the hard cider. Be prepared to walk from alternate parking lot on peek hours on weekends, no biggy.
Good food, great atmosphere--this kind of place is much attempted but rarely perfected.Pizza is unique, with a slightly spicy sauce and garlicky crust. But it's definitely Gainesville's best. The dessert is also awesome--their chocolate cake is almost the best I've ever had, second only to my mom's family recipe.Service can be a bit slow, given Satchel's is almost always packed. But the cool building has lots of nooks and crannies to explore, lots of places for kids to play, and plenty of decorative curiosities to stare at. I'm not at all surprised that Satchel's is a Gainesville institution, and I'll definitely be going back. More...
First time to eat at Satchel’s - delicious salad, The best deep-dish pizza ever, and the caramel apple crunch desert was “to die for”! Also loved the uniqueness of this restaurant and would definitely recommend it anyone in the Gainesville, FL area! You will not be disappointed and will leave with an appetite that has been fully satisfied!!! More...
Great place, finding a parking spot can be challenging though. But all in all it was a great place!
Satchel's is a Gainesville staple known for their pizza, but honestly, I come for the salad. I'm not a salad fanatic, but the Satch Salad is hands-down the best salad in town; I've never truly enjoyed or looked forward to a salad until I tried Satchel's. It's a mixture of carrots, cucumbers, apples, Romano cheese, tomatoes, almonds, sunflower seeds, and walnuts. These are typical salad ingredients, but their secret dressing is what makes it worth it. If you want to add their dressing to your salads at home, they sell bottles of it by the cashier. I typically come here for lunch because they have a great lunch special deal (salad and a one topping slice for $7), but I've been here for dinner a few times as well. Satchel's offers a large selection of toppings for your pizza and charge the same amount for any of the toppings. If you're a deep dish fan, you can ask for a deep dish slice as part of their lunch special depending on their availability. Satchel's decor is very unique and makes it a definite stop for out-of-towners to visit. Satchel's has plenty of indoor seating in their main restaurant and in their air conditioned patio, as well as outdoor seating, and even seating in a van and greenhouse. Keep in mind that Satchel's is a cash only restaurant. They have an ATM inside that charges a service fee, but the fee goes towards charity. More...
I love the place. I ordered thick crust pizza and wine. It took 4 people to finish that delicious pizza. It's a really cool place to hangout with amazing ambiance (specially the van out side). The staff is real good. Just remember to have some cash on hand because they don't accept cards. More...

Loved Satchel’s!! The pizza is amazing, the decor and atmosphere is fun and the dessert menu is the best!!! If you are in Gainesville you HAVE to go!
Excellent food and service with a quite eclectic artsy decor. Not the least expensive place to eat but again there is nothing like it. Gotta try it!

The best pizza I’ve ever had. The toppings are so fresh, and the crust is perfect. Great atmosphere!
YOU MUST GO FOR DEEPDISH!!!! Is it to die for!!! You won't regret it. They are unique and out standing! You must come here when visiting Gainesville. The quality of the pizza is great, a little bit overpriced but you know what you're getting that's for sure. Will be back (: More...
Our first time here and we loved this eclectic pizza place. We ordered the Major pizza without cheese. The pizza was 6 (huge) slices for a small. The salads are very tasty and big enough to feed up to 4 people. They make their own sodas so we will be back for pizza, salad, and sodas. Absolutely love their support of saving the environment/animals and not serving straws unless requested. More...
Awesome pizza and great vibe! It’s a little bit of Austin Weird in Gainesville!
Awesome place to bring your family!! We came for our sons 1st birthday because of storms cancelling our plans for Depot Park. The amazing part is we were treated to great music a great glass of beer and the most amazing pizza. The only thing that got me down was the looks from other people for having kids that is not ok but the place has nothing to do with that. We tried to sit outside but it was full More...
Words cant describe the amount of times we have been there and all the memories made. Pizza is amazing. The big slice of cake is great if sweet frosting doesnt hurt your teeth. It’s just awesome!
Great date with the kiddies they loved the pizza and the fun art ! Bring cash I personally loved the calzones and satches salad
I've been living in Gainesville for two years and only just found out that Sachel's was a thing! I wish I had heard about it sooner because they have some of the best pizza I've had in Florida! The menu has tons of options and ways to customize your pizza and they even have gluten-sensitive options, which is awesome. The restaurant is so cool too. I love the eclectic decorations inside and also in the outside dining area too. I highly recommend giving them a shot if you're looking for some seriously good pizza and a fun place to hang out while you eat. More...
Fun place, good food, cash only but the atm fees go to charity.
I have been a big fan of Lightnin' Salvage since it opened way back when, and was completely devastated when it burnt to the ground after the last fire at Satchels. (I'll be honest, I may have actually shed a tear or two over it.)I was both excited and nervous to see what the new and "improved" LS would be like when it reopened (last week.) I was pleasantly surprised to visit tonight and see the spirit of the store captured with new whimsy and more AC than I've ever experienced at Satchels! The store portion is way smaller, but it's still just as fun. The space is more open and clean (without feeling sterile.) Anyone who has ever been there on a Friday or Saturday night knows just how needed that extra space is! The dining portion, while may technically be less tables, feels way more open. The tables are new and filled with collections (which are appreciated, especially since they lost the collection museum in the fire.) There is a sewing pattern table, a Polaroid table, a I phone screen table, a key table, a match book table, a cassette table, a bike chain table, and a couple more I couldn't view due to guests. The bar is flocked with completed puzzles and more whimsy. For those not familiar with Satchels or Lightnin' Salvage, Satchels is Gainesville's most local, funky, and delicious pizza joint, and LS is the fun shop in the back where you can meander through collections and interesting new yet vintage style toys; or simply have a drink while you wait for your table to be ready. There was a order at the counter component for food in the past, but in all my years of going I never took advantage of until tonight. Tonight I took advantage of it because 1. There was zero wait vs the (not bad for Friday at Satchels) 20 minute wait inside Satchels 2. I wanted to scope the new digs 3. I wanted to enjoy the live music 4. I wanted to enjoy the magic of their new AC. I know I've mentioned the AC twice now but this is probably the first time I've visited Satchels on a summer night and not sweat! The AC is amazing!Overall, It is not the old LS but it has many different great qualities. LS offers a cute and quirky store, nice bar area, it's own ATM (its cash only), and the ability to order Satchels pizza and salad more quickly. The food does come in to go containers and does lose a little of its magic in that, but it is still the same tasty food that put Satchels on the map. More...
Love this place one complaint when there is a performance going on on the stage pay attention and control your children please
When your friends recommend a place is for a good reason and I'm so glad we came to Satchel's.This restaurant has seating area inside, outside and even inside a car as you can see in my pictures. It also has a store and another ample room with more tables and a stage, where a band performs every Friday and Saturday from 6-9pm. The service was ok, the decoration was extremely interesting; vintage, with crazy things all over this place and everything looked awesome. We had a lunch special with a slice of pizza: delicious, crispy and soft in the inside, a little spicy red sauce, all home made, and scrumptious pieces of ham. This also came with a salad and let me tell you, this was extremely good, with nuts, cheese, and chopped green apple. My son had the steak calzone and it was so good that tonight we might go back for more. This one was a big serving of mouthwatering, well done, home made calzone. The steak inside was so tender and the melted cheese went perfectly with the crispy onions. I didn't want to leave with out trying something sweet and we had the chocolate and vanilla cannoli. I loved the filling but not the dough. My daughter loved everything!!!!Thank you for having us and thank you Diandra, Marilu, and Matthew for the recommendation... on point. More...
That salad, the pizza and the art what more can you ask for. 5 starts all day. This spot is a gem.
Originality is their specialty! I love their homemade sodas, they have a good selection and they'll let you try different ones after you've tried one. Only downside is you need to pay in cash and it can be a little pricy for a college student, but it's yummy and they have an ATM haha. The service is really great as well. Very homey vibe to the whole local. More...
Pizza was amazing! Not greasy at all, the crust was perfect if you wanted to fold it you could, or after 3-4 bites in and you can eat it with one hand. The atmosphere is unique and definitely worth taking a few selfies. I can't wait to have our leftovers tomorrow! Oh and the cannoli was fluffy and soooo good, I had the half and half mmm dont believe I've ever lived a cannoli this much. We tried the soda flight it was fun, the ginger ale is super good and the root beer and the lemonade surprised me to, I'm not the biggest fan of soda but obviously had a sweet tooth tonight! Some of the best pizza I've had hands down. We will be back to try the deep dish! More...

This was our first visit. First of all, we loved the eclectic “decor”! We went in expecting to order one slice for each of us...but decided on the lunch special...which included a salad with the slice. The salad was delicious (something I never thought I’d ever say)! The pizza was reminiscent of our favorite New York pizzas. The dough was perfect...the cheese and sauce were delicious...and our toppings were just right! There is no place like Satchel’s - delicious food, awesome servers, and the restaurant itself is a work of art! Make sure to check out their fun gift shop out back, the fountain out in the parking lot, and Satchel’s van where you can dine inside of if you choose.
Great service, and great food. We had the Satchel's salad and it was delicious. We split a Satch-Pan pizza and it was sooooo good, but sooooo filling. Major props for having four local brews on tap. Love to see support for local businesses. The only negative is it is cash only. More...

I come to Gainesville for work, and Satchels is a MUST!! Cannot go wrong with salad and a slice for lunch. And try the lemonade, it's sooo good!!
This place has so much to see that you really have to go more than twice to see all of it! From eating in a treehouse to the van, and underneath a collection of tires and old cameras. They also have calzones, salad and a variety of desserts. You need to try the cannolis. They are hands down the best I've had in Gainesville. This is a cash only place, so bring your bills. If you forget there is an ATM inside. The fee goes to a local charity. Food can take a while to come out and there is usually a wait on the weekends. So be patient. More...

Pretty impressed with this local pizzeria! My husband use to eat here back when he attended the University and he has been wanting to take me for awhile. We finally got the chance to go and give it a whirl. There was a bit of a wait when we arrived. It's a busy place so be ready to give some time here. Once seated we looked over the menu and debated options. There isn't too much to there menu so it shouldn't take long to make choices. They do make everything to order and it took about forty five minutes for the pizza to be made, so again, be ready to spend time here. Maybe split a salad for an app while you wait it out the pizza. The staff was friendly and did let us know about timing and options and all. They checked on frequently to ensure we were doing okay. Drinks were kept fresh. The place is smaller with a variety of seating options. If you can, try for the fun bus table. It'd make for a unique experience if the weather permits. Overall: ASolid local pizza place, but be ready for long waits. More...

Believe it or not, I've had this unpublished draft for over a year now, so I hesitated a bit before posting it, but I decided to go for it. I did publish a review in Facebook that's pretty much a summary of this one, and the restaurant answered to it (just now, a year later), wishing it had been a five-star experience, so I'm going to go a bit deeper here in yelp:I did love the place! All the things on the walls and the ceiling, the cds, the cameras, the bike wheels... the whole place is covered of different things and it gives it a personality of its own.In all, ambiance is great. The band was sweet. Entertaining but not so loud as to drive you crazy, with enjoyable tunes. The store was fun (I even bought a hat), you can entertain yourself for a while even if you buy nothing. The staff was also friendly and helpful, I love it when people tends you with an honest smile. Now, here's the deal: the food was good, but there are better pizzas on similar establishments at a similar price range. That does not mean it was a bad pizza, but I can't give it a full five stars.Personally, I liked the Calzone more than the Pizza, but again, even though they both were good, I do think they fell short of a five-star. I would probably give them another half-star (earned with service and ambiance), but yelp doesn't allow half stars, since this is a food establishment, I thought that good(not great) translates better to four than to five, even more when you realize That a place with "pizza" on the name delivers a better calzone. That said, you can bet I'll be returning to Satchel's Pizza next time I set foot in Gainesville. It is a nice experience. More...

We love Satchels, used to be the only place to get gluten free pizza and beer, still the best place!
What an eclectic place. The decor is beautiful, so much to look at. The service was to notch and the food was excellent. The in house soda was delicious. The tables of good size to hold several pizzas and still have room. The salad, with it's vinaigrette was leaving us wanting more. A must go to again! More...
nice and cozy environment, it took half an hour wait for the pizza to come, but i think it's worth it.They put tons of toppings instead of pouring cheese as a lot of places do. and the dough are very crisp. The only thing i dont like is that they only take cash. More...
Where do I begin with my love affair with Satchel's Pizza. This place is a Gainesville institution. If you studied in Gainesville, Satchel's was always the king of pizza. Even if all you did was visit a fellow Gator I am sure you have been brought to Satchel's at some point. If not, you should really reconsider your life choices. It's that good. Some of the best pizza with the best vibes come from Satchel's.When I was in college, this place was one of our favorites. Consistently good, and always a fun spot to grab a bite. Fast forward to 8 years later and Satchel's is still serving up pizza as good as I remember it.First things first the menu is small, and the ambiance is quirky. It looks like a collection of things your most fun, crazy family member would put together to decorate their home. You feel welcome from the moment you step in and the service is always friendly. When it comes to the food you MUST try the salad to start. It's a heaping portion and comes with slivered almonds, tons of veggies, cheese, apples and the most delicious vinaigrette. It's a simple salad, but a necessary and delicious way to start the meal.As for Pizza's - you can go classic or get creative. They allow you to add your own toppings, and have a few varieties you can choose from. This is thin crust, huge slices, no frills pizza. I love the pepperoni, but I don't believe you can go wrong with any. They also have calzones. We got the steak and cheese this visit and it was yummy. But if this is your one visit here, get the Pizza!Desserts are yummy too - and you can see the menu in one of those old school view masters. Aside from the quality pizza - the extras about this place are what make it so special. They have a junkyard in the back that is a mix of garage sale and toy store, and it's one of my favorite places to find things I never knew I needed. On my last visit, I purchased a bacon air freshener...because...why not?! You also have the option to dine inside an old VW Van turned into dining area - how cool is that? One thing to note - this place is cash only! Do not hesitate to visit Satchel's when you're in the Gainesville area. It doesn't disappoint! More...
We tried a calzone on this visit. It was so tasty. The sauce was great! The salad was so good. We stop here on many of our trips to Gainesville.
Outstanding experience all around! Excellent service! Nice salad - very fresh ingredients. Awesome pizza! Our 1st pizza was thin crust with meatball - perfectly crispy bottom and very generous with toppings. Our 2nd pizza was deep dish with sausage, mushroom and roasted red peppers. The crust was airy and perfectly cooked! I've lived in NY, Detroit and Chicago so I have some strong opinions about pizza. This place is my new favorite! I will definitely be back - its worth the 70 mile drive each way! More...
Pizza and drinks were awesome the service could have been a little better as friendly but over all a great place to eat
This was our 2nd time at Satchel's. We had a great time again and got to meet Satchel. Fun place and great pizza and salad.

The best ginger ale I’ve ever had, the salad has everything I love in it, and the calzone made this Italian Jersey girl feel like I was home.
Fresh natural ingredients beautiful ambience and very responsive waitress cute place. Artistically delicious
From the eclectic vibe to the delicious eats, the dining experience at Satchel's is one you will never forget! My go-to order is a glass of Homemade Ruby Root Beer, a Satch Salad to share, and The Mama Medium pizza. With the Mama pizza option, you are able to choose 4 out of the 31 toppings they offer! From the salad to the pizza, the colors are vibrant and and the serving size is generous enough to share. Every ingredient was fresh, crisp, and kept me wanting more. Their home made dressing enhanced all the fresh flavors and you can even purchase a bottle of dressing to take home with you (which I certainly did)! As the waiter walked over with my pizza, my mouth instantly started watering. You could smell the warm dough and fresh basil bubbling on the top. It's quite the challenge but I highly suggest saving room for dessert. Even if you decide you're too full to eat something sweet, ask for a dessert menu because it is presented in a that makes me smile each time. It should be noted that Satchels is a "cash only" restaurant. However, they do have an ATM inside and the ATM service fee is donated to charity. I know most people don't carry around cash these days but Satchel's is worth it. Overall, Satchel's is a restaurant that I would recommend to anyone who comes to Gainesville. It's the perfect spot for people who are looking for something off-the-beaten path that will satisfy their craving for a yummy meal and a unique Gainesville experience. More...

Amazing as always. Lunch special is perfect! Salad & slice.
Their menu is small and colorful. They sell pizza pies, calzones, and a salad. Also, they have homemade sodas and you can sample them all by trying a flight. We had already eaten dinner, but wanted to check out the junk museum regardless.Good thing they have baked in house desserts. Keeping with the Italian motif there are cannolis, but something about that chocolate cake screamed - don't pass me by!It was rich, moist, and made me wish I got a chance to eat a full meal here surrounded by obscene local art - particularly between 6-9PM when they have live music. Met family traveling through Gainesville and had a fabulous experience. The pizza was as always phenomenal, the weather was great, the atmosphere interesting, and the company spectacular! Our service was prompt and efficient. We had a large Major and a large cheese. The crust was perfect and toppings fresh. My brother-in-law and I split a small salad with plenty for both of us. Again the salad was fresh and crisp. No pictures because we started eating too fast. More...
PIZZAGAZM the service is amazing and honestly this is such a unique place MUST try. The food is sooooooo good.

Enjoyed the cool decor, food was great and staff excellent
If I could give 10 stars for this place I would. Very funky but fun. Best salad I've had in recent memory. Pizza was fabulous! Crust fresh, crunchy and soft at the same time. Sauce with a bit of spice. Lots of veggie and vegan options. And the homemade sodas are crazy good! Get a flight! Oh wait, there's dessert! Homemade and fabulous!!I'd go out of my way to come back! Had it 5 years ago when traveling through and have been wishing I could go back ever since!
The pizza and salad we had there was amazing and my son loved playing on the little playground!!!
This place rules. It's authentic and it's real. They don't hide anything. They know what they are doing. It's very rare that a place has beautiful decor and amazing food at the same time. It's usually one or the other. If you don't try this place because of the few people that left 1 star reviews than you are just another robot. Give this place a try. It's a very cool experience. Absolutely obsessed with this place...I feel like I have a problem...it's just so damn special. More...
This is our go-to restaurant for most of our family celebrations!! Perfect for birthdays or just a fun family night!
I have heard through the SEC Network that a place that was a must try in Gainesville was Satchel's. They were absolutely right! This was a treasure to find and worth crossing to the other side of Gainesville from I-75. The atmosphere definitely is hipster by proof of the van in front. There are also tables inside the van. However, if you are hoping to catch a Gators game from here, you are out of luck. I did not see one TV. They also only accept cash.My friends and I went with the medium 14" Mama pizza. It came in 6 slices. With the Mama pizza, you choose 4 toppings. Out choices were pepperoni, meatball, roasted red peppers, and feta cheese. The pepperoni was smaller than most places. The meatball were sliced into pieces, which I loved. Some of the best meatballs I've had. I love Roasted Red Peppers and they were a delicious choice and the feta cheese matched well with it. I asked for extra sauce because the worst thing for me is to have a pizza with little to no sauce. I'm glad I did because the pizza wasn't loaded with sauce but had the just right for me. I would have been disappointed if I hadn't asked for extra sauce but I'm a sauce-aholic. The sauce was a mild, sweet marinara that was glorious. I'm one of those who don't usually eat the crust. But the dough was kind of thin to support the pizza. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! But Satchel's makes homemade soda that they seem famous for. I have just become old that I cannot stand much carbonation anymore. Something else neat about Satchel's was they give you one of those old viewfinder toys to check out their dessert menu. Now that's innovative!Satchel's...definitely one of the best pizza experiences I've ever had. More...

The best pizza and salad I’ve ever had. Enjoying my salad dressing Christmas present from my Gatorgirl!
The best pizza we had outside of Chicago. Great service! Great Ambience! A must go to place!
Truly a unique and experiential place. The atmosphere is fun and warm. It has an artsy/hippie vibe with artwork and crazy sculptures everywhere. There is even an old decorated van you can eat inside of. My friends and I would go here as our "celebration" spot anytime something good happened (new job, finished the semester, etc). so it has a special place my life. The pizza is GREAT, I usually got the mama slice with pineapple, spinach, bacon, and black olives and it was always mouth-watering. The strombolis are to die for as well. They make all of their own sodas such as cola and ginger beer and their sweet tea is delicious (after moving to south florida, I didn't realize how important good sweet tea is, lol). Their desserts are amazing. I would recommend the apple crumble cheesecake as it's always creamy and sweet but their cannolis are also fantastic. Downsides: The wait can be up to 45 min-1 hour on the weekends. Before, they had a huge fun giftshop with a bar/music you can wait in so it was always fun to hang while you waited. Cash only & they don't split the bill initially so if you're paying with a huge group of friends it can get a little confusing. BUT WORTH IT.If you go to Gainesville and don't go to Satchel's, you need to reevaluate your life, haha! More...
The pizzas are delicious. The crust is perfect, maintains a bite to it. They aren’t selfish on the toppings either!! Vegan options are available if you choose. Decent beer selection, 4 taps and 2 are rotating, and no it wasn’t only IPA’s! We enjoyed the Hefeweizen, doubly delicious! The feeling here is unique from music playing, decor, and to the desserts presentation via view finder! To finish we would recommend the peanut butter bonbons. A tiny delectable finish to a fantastic meal. We will definitely be back!! Thanks for a great time!! for having cash only, if you use the ATM, the fees are donated to a wonderful local charity. That’s wonderful! More...

What an amazing place. Salad was so good, love their dressing. Pizza delish, Calzones were delish!! The decor reminds us of The Shed in Mississippi.
Fantastic pizza! Excellent salad. Atmosphere was very cool, everyone was super friendly who worked there. All of the food tasted fresh and 100% quality! Can’t wait to go back!
Super place to have dinner with kids. Very friendly.
The salad is amazing, just sayin. The pie is great too, all is so good. Bring cash but if not cool, they have an ATM and any extra charge goes toward a cause. Great atmosphere quirky jives. Love love love Satchels More...
Satchel's owns a piece of my heart. I ate here for the first time in 2008, and have had a literal addiction ever since. I have eaten at the #2 pizza restaurant in the WORLD (Italy) and I kid you not, I was thinking about satchels while eating that pizza. The satch salad is a MUST. Fresh, healthy, delicious and made with a home made dressing. The calzones are monstrous and can easily serve two people when sharing a salad to start. The slices are as big as your face and I used to half joke with satchel asking him to make a crust only pizza because the garlic butter kissed crust is to die for! Call me plain Jane but one of my all time favorites is the classic cheese slice. A few fun slices I've created are: 1. A philly with steak, white onions and green peppers. And 2. A slice with bacon, ricotta, and garlic. Don't forget desert!!! Their non bons are insane, the brownies are sinfully good, and THE CHOCOLATE CAKE with homemade icing is so good it has been served at my mothers 50th birthday, my sisters wedding, and multiple family events. Treat yourself to a restaurant that epitomizes all things Gainesville- you won't regret it. More...
Fresh, hot, crispy, cheesy PIZZA! Wife and I ordered a large pizza with steak and onions on one side and mushrooms on the other. This pizza was baked to perfection and was loaded with toppings. It doesn't stop there, the steak and onions was premium steak not that kind you get at Pizza Hut or Dominoes. You could definitely notice the difference in quality even in the mushrooms. One of my favorite things is that they charge you only half the price of a topping if it is on one side only. They make sure you get a fair deal. They make their own cane sugar soda and drinks. We ordered the flight of all 6 sodas which is a paddle with medium sized drinks for only $5. There are no refills on drinks if you order the paddle but that's why I'm here. They charge $3 for a house made cane soda with free refills. Varieties include: cola, diet cola, root beer, lemon lime, ginger ale, and lemonade. My favorite was the lemon lime which tasted a bit like fruit loops. I usually like diet cola but did not like their version at ALL. The other drinks were mediocre. Cool unique atmosphere and seating arrangements. Customer service 5/5. More...
The service here is excellent. All of the servers wait all the tables so there is always someone trying to help. The pizza is the best in Gainesville and the salad is a must have! I highly recommend it and guarantee you will not be disappointed. More...
I thought when I left Chicago after my college years that I had been to the mecca of deep dish pizza and, aside from the occasional visit to the Windy City, I would never experience it again. Little did I know that a tiny shop on the east side of Gainesville would capture my pizza heart and prove me wrong. Satchel's is my all time favorite deep dish pizza. I love everything about it, from the homemade dough that gets little crispy burnt edges after being in the oven for thirty minutes (or however long they cook it) to the slightly spicy sauce to the various toppings. It is the kind of pizza that, when I lived in Gainesville, I had to have at least once a month. It is the kind of pizza that, now that I live in Tampa, I drive two hours to eat every once in a while. Note: Satchel's pie is not a traditional Chicago style pizza. You won't find the same flaky crust. You won't find the sauce on top and the cheese in the middle. It is a great deep dish pizza but if you are coming in expecting Chicago style, you won't get that here.Outside of the deep dish pizza there is a lot to love about Satchel's. They are extremely vegan friendly. You can order a pizza with vegan cheese (must get a whole pie, will not do vegan cheese slices) if that is your thing. You can also top your pizza with locally raised tempeh (which is really good). They can top pizzas and calzones with their house made pesto sauce that is vegan friendly. Satchel's has a great salad, called the Satch salad. It mixes red and green lettuce with carrots, cucumbers, apples, almonds, sunflower seeds, red onion, diced tomatoes and Romano cheese in Satchel's own house vinaigrette. It is a salad so good that I have spent years trying to replicate it at home (sans the cheese). The menus at Satchel's are out of this world, with each having a Satchel musing or story on the back (at least they used to be like that, I haven't used a menu in a few years). Chances are, with a group of four, you would get at least three different menus. That means you could spend the time it takes for the deep dish to cook reading three different Satchel musings. While Satchel's is all about the pizza, and probably not about the politics, they are a very progressive place to work (at least from the view of an outsider looking in). They have made no secret of the fact that they pay their employees a living wage. Because of that their prices are higher than other pizza places. I'm okay with that because I know that some of those higher prices are going to line the pockets of the employees that work there. Satchel's is always closed on Sundays and Mondays, making it so their employees always get two days in a row off, one of which (Sunday) is a day when kids aren't in school and most non service jobs are closed. They also try to keep their costs down by accepting only cash. Don't have cash? No problem, there is an ATM on the premise that has a 1.50 cent fee. That fee....goes to a charity.I could go on and on about Satchel's. It is everything that I think a pizza place....ahem....a restaurant should be. But I'll stop and just leave you with this: if you are in Gainesville, give Satchel's a go. It is one of the most unique and tasty experiences that you will ever have. More...
Satchel is my all time favorite. I have been coming here for years, never a disappointment. Their deep dish pizza is amazing however I would recommend sharing with someone. If you don't want to share, honestly taste even better leftover. They also have vegan pizza which is to my surprise is delicious. Both the deep dish and vegan pizza comes in whole, can't buy individual slices so it can be bit pricey. Lately I've been getting their lunch special. It comes with salad and 1 slice of pizza with one topping. Perfect portions if you are trying to not to stuff yourself. If you have never been to Satchel's definitely try their salad! Bring cash because that's only form of payment they will accept. The staffs are wonderful. They all work together to take care of the customer. Satchel have a casual environment. You have the options to sit inside, outside, or in a shaded patio area with ceiling fans which is my favorite! More...

We absolutely love Satchel's!!! We drive from Jacksonville just to get pizza and hand crafted sodas! We are so glad you have finished the rebuild so we might see you this weekend!
Love coming to Satchel's on my visits to Gainesville! Pizza is delicious and fresh!! It's a cash only establishment which is a little nutty in this day in age, but the place is always packed and the pizza does not disappoint! We usually get the Mama pizza and can choose the 4 ingredients depending on what we are in the mood - they allow you to do halves too. So one half can have 2 ingredients, while the other has 2 other ingredients. Their Lola Cola is delicious! Like a Coke but made with cane sugar! More...
The vibe of this place I would give 5 stars. All of the artwork and designs and the "hippy van" (where we sat to eat our meal) were all a unique design that I had never seen anywhere else. Although the wait time that night was around 30 minutes to an hour, the reservation system that the place uses was awesome in the fact that it would text you when your table was ready. There was a bar with a similar vibe of the restaurant in the back, which was a great place to get drinks and wait for our table. I even noticed that a lot of people would get their orders to go and eat them in that area. After getting a text saying our table was ready, the staff got us a table in the hippy van (which was awesome they were able to accommodate our request). The service was pretty good, only thing I noticed was we had like four-five different servers so sometimes it took a while to get our orders since no one person was on top of whether we had been served. Honestly, the reason for the four stars is just because the pizza wasn't like "oh-my-god" good, it was just okay pizza. I liked how I could get whatever toppings I wanted on my personal slice, so I only had to order one slice instead of a whole pizza. For all the hype I've heard from this place, I just expected it to be better. I feel like the pizza didn't have a lot of flavor on its own, so my recommendation is get toppings with a good amount of flavor (and trust me, make one of them extra cheese). Overall, this is a fun place you need to try at least once for the cool atmosphere and I might come back for the dessert (which looked really good). More...

Such a unique place! Loved it! The salad and pizza were GREAT!
First time visiting after years of hearing that I need to eat here and I loved it! I did the lunch special-slice and a salad- which was phenomenal. I love the homemade sodas. I highly recommend the ginger ale and grape soda. Not only was the food delicious, the service was exceptional. It appeared lint from a server's shirt fell in my drink before reaching my table and I attempted to retrieve it from the glass with my knife. A server noticed immediately and asked if he may replace my beverage. While I wasn't bothered by a harmless foreign object in my drink, I was impressed by the servers' attentiveness. Every time I am in Gainesville, I plan to make a stop in at Satchel's. More...

Loved going to eat there. Yummy pizza. Fellow Ford Falcon Owner as well. I’ll go again anytime.
OMG! I'm not even a huge pizza fan, but this place is amazing! You can taste the love in the pizzas. Also, the vibe and decor is quite eclectic which just adds to the experience. This place is a must go whenever I have an extended stay in Gainesville! More...

Delicious although slightly over-rated (in my opinion). Deep dish is pretty expensive but their normal pizza is good and so is their salad (love their salad.
My favorite restaurant in the entire world. The best pizza I've ever had. The slightly spicy sauce, perfect amount of cheese and golden, buttery, crisp crust all combine to create my favorite meal. When I moved away from Gainesville I was constantly craving Satchel's and found it hard to find pies that matched the quality, even in big cities. Luckily I live in Gainesville now and can pick up a pie every other week or so. Don't even bother to get toppings, in my opinion they aren't necessary and I think plain cheese just can't be beat. Yes, it gets busy, but just order take out and sit in the back if you're starving. Great place to take out-of-town guests to. Looking forward to the new Lightning Salvage when it's done! More...
It's Pizza. Everybody in town freaks out and swears this is the BEST pizza... I don't understand why? It's good, but I still would consider average in flavor. Restaurant has a comfortable vibe inside, friendly staff More...
So being from Chicago finding good pizza in Florida is like finding the mother ship. This was recommended from "Only in Florida" and it was GREAT. We ordered the Satch-Pan which is a deep dish with a buttery crust and gets a caramelized edge that is so good, we had sausage, mushrooms and roasted red peppers and they loaded up the ingredients. While waiting we had the small Satch Salad the small fed 4 of us. The dressing is Delicious. Then the star of the night showed up the pizza. It was so delicious and so filling we were unable to order dessert (next time). Hubby said I will drive the 90 minutes just to have this pizza - that says it all. Yummo More...
The salad here, much like the decor, has a little bit of everything. Very flavorful. It's plenty big enough for two. The pizza was thin and crispy and the sauce had a sweeter taste to it. The crust was the best part! It tasted like a fluffy, buttery breadstick. Ask for a dessert menu even if you don't want dessert, trust me. I love how it is presented! I got the apple crumble cheesecake and it tasted homemade. So yummy. As far as the service, I don't really understand why people have left negative reviews. Just about every person working yesterday spoke to us, and all our needs were met even as business started to pick up. What makes Satchel's so good is that it is something different. There are so many cool, unique things to see anywhere your eyes wander. I love the atmosphere. I'll have to go back one night when they have live music. More...
Fantastic pizza, home made sodas, and wonderful desserts. This is a must go to place in Gainesville. I was visiting UF with my daughter and decided on pizza. We went to Satchel's after the Gators/LSU game, because it is apparently a tradition to do so among my girlfriend's family. Neat place, with neat and nice people. The parking is sort of incomprehensible, with a one-way space on the right (as you're looking at the front of the building). Not really one-way...but you can go in, but you have to come out the same way, which leads to inconsiderate efftards going the wrong way around the roundabout at the end. Ah, life in a college town, largely populated by selfish assclowns too impatient to be considerate.I and three of my party had pizza. Not lying, it was an exemplar while it sat on the aluminum pizza tray. However, that dough isn't pizza dough. It is bread dough, made into a pizza. No chew whatsoever. It was good. Great sauce, great toppings, great everything...except the dough. The gluten hadn't been developed. Maybe because there are too many complaining snowflakes faking the gluten-free lifestyle. Who knows? But pizza dough has a chewy bite. This had none. But it did have an awesome flavor. This is a fairly large place. It has an eclectic and folk art influence. Lots of stuff to look at, none of it as offensive as the dough. Very nice staff, which pool tips and split them equally. I think Katie was our server's name, and she rocked it, willing to go above and beyond. But other folks stopped by to check on us, too, which was awesome. So much so that I tipped $50 on an ~$80 tab. Our visit was just that awesome. Strange bathroom. A stool after the sink, with a urinal up a step and behind a door. I mean, if someone is on the throne, I'd be inclined to pull the door closed and wait. But I'm older now and maybe norms have changed. In the army, we had bare commodes in a line, but I got out a long time ago and don't wish to relive those days. You should definitely go here. The pizza is good. Not great. It *tastes* great, but great pizza has pizza dough. The pizza here doesn't have pizza dough. More...

Awesome pizza and people. Sage was an awesome server!!
Service was great! Pizza was better!!! We got the deep dish major pizza and it didn't disappoint.
Really delicious pizza!!! Ordered half cheese/ mushroom and half cheese/ sautéed onion & steak. The pizza was so fresh! Definitely one of the top pizza places in my book. We ordered the soda sampler. You get to try all 6 of their house made sodas. I was not particularly a fan of the sodas but I am glad I tried them. I thought they were a little warm and not very carbonated. We also ordered a cannoli. The filling was nice but I did not like the shell. Regardless, I will definitely be back for the pizza!!! More...

This place is awesome and has a very unique decorative style to it. The salad and pizzas are amazing. If you find yourself in Gainesville you need to check it out.
Really good pizza and salads in most likely one of the coolest restaurant atmosphere's I've ever been to! This place is awesome. When you pull in and see hub caps everywhere, trophies everywhere, and just random stuff, you really do not know what to expect. Also, they are rebuilding the section of this place that has burnt down I guess for either a second or third time. I went in with a group of people from work on a Wednesday and the place was packed for lunch. They allow you to call in your order and done in when you get there. We had several different orders so this was good for us. The food was amazing and fresh! I along with
