I have been to the SCK's new location, so this is an update.  There have been a lot of changes to the salon, some good, some less so, over the last few years, but I am happy to recommend SCK.  I remain very happy with my colorist, Melissa.  Melissa is, without a doubt, the best colorist that I have encountered.  She is extremely talented and is constantly growing and evolving as a colorist, and her clients get the benefit of that evolution.  Melissa is client-focused; she  listens to what you want for your look, and expertly executes your vision. She has creative solutions to client challenges, and is extremely professional and respectful.  You will get the result that you want, and will feel great, regardless how dramatic or subtle a change you might make to your hair.  Melissa is incredibly kind, professional, supportive, and honest.  I value both her exceptional skills as a colorist and the conversations we have while I am in her chair.  As for the new location- my first impressions of the SCK's 5th Avenue salon were overwhelmingly positive.  The new location is very bright, stark, spacious, and modern.  I really like the touches like the wood details,the floor, the accent walls, the color of the spa room, and the shampoo area is really lovely.  My first appointment at SCK 5th Ave. was right after opening week, and though the salon looks different, the salon staff made me feel right at home.  I am always so grateful to the wonderful people that work at SCK.  Thank you, Regine and Karen, you made my first visit across town a great one!  Thank you for being so welcoming and professional, just amazing!  I look forward to coming back soon. I was in town for business and needed to have a manicure ASAP. I used Yelp to contact the salon and they were incredibly responsive, taking the time to accommodate my schedule.  When I walked in, the salon was beautiful and the staff was incredibly friendly.  My manicure was quick (what I needed!) and my manicurist, Lisa, was very professional. The sign of a good salon isn't just about how happy you are when you leave, but how welcome you feel when you first arrive. Salon SCK has the most welcoming atmosphere as well as the kindest and most attentive staff and this is because they have one of the best owners.  I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Clint and he is one of the most genuine business owners I've ever met that truly takes how his clients feel to heart.The spacious salon overlooks Broadway and I love the natural light that flows through it.  I liked how each station had ample room from the other so you didn't feel elbow-to-elbow with another client like a lot of salons in NYC.I moved from Chicago to NYC last year and I've had the same two people color and cut my hair for the last 19 years.  This was a HUGE step for me to let someone I had never met cut my hair.  Not everyone can cut curly hair!  Clint was so reassuring and paired me with a colorist and stylist that would understand my needs.I felt like I won the hair lottery when I met Dallas and Ryan.  They truly are the dream team!  Dallas listened to what I wanted to do with my highlights and saw my vision immediately.  It was the same with Ryan, and he definitely knows his way around curly hair!  I had him blow it out (I don't get to see my hair straight often) and it looked fantastic.  When I washed it a couple of days later, I was ecstatic at how beautifully the curls fell into place even without using a diffuser.  My highlights came out exactly as I wanted too!Salon SCK - Clint, Dallas, Ryan - thank you all again for such an amazing experience!  I look forward to seeing you at the end of June!! Stylist Beau did an amazing job touching up my roots. There are no greys left which has never happened before--He is wonderfully detailed which is a great attribute for a stylist. He really took the time to consider my current color and my plans for a future bayalage and cut, even introducing me to his colleague Fiona for my haircut the following week. I have been going to Lai since 2007.  My brother researched the best places and people to get haircuts.  We found Lai.  I think he researched it for his wife who also is a huge fan of Lai.  Lai did my hair for my wedding in 2009.  It was beautifully done and I couldn't of been happier that day.  Throughout the years,  I still go to Lai when I can do it.  He gives an incredible cut with each hair falling perfectly in place.  Do you know how I can tell?   When I wash it, I can actually do it myself.  The salon is a little tricky to find, but it's a hidden gem and so is Lai. Literally, the best place to treat your hair, to keep regular maintenance, or to try something new. I've been dedicated since it's opening years ago, and I refuse to go anywhere else or trust anyone else except for the talented artists here at Salon SCK. It's completely worth every penny. Bravo to Carolina who is an amazing color stylist and excellent person! She's a licensed "apprentice" at Salon SCK who's going through the salon's training program and, as far as I'm concerned, she has earned her stripes as a dependable go-to colorist at the exclusive salon. I have very long, thick, curly hair, and they always do an amazing job with it !! Everyone there is SOO nice. Almost every time I get my hair done somewhere, someone makes a mean comment about it, which I don't think is fair because I'm just like every other girl who wants to have their hair done every once in a while lol, but no one here has ever said anything rude to me about my hair ! Got a mani/pedi here. The service from when you call to when you walk in the door is outstanding. They are  very friendly.  The salon is beautiful. The nail technician is not the friendliest but she was nice. She put the dryer on when my nails were done and never came back. I was overall happy with my nails but disappointed with how it ended. Came here for a hair dye with kelly as a recommendation by my sister in law and convenient proximity to my office. I had requested no stripes soft caramel blonde balayage and showed her a pic of what i was looking for. She offered her opinions and suggestions for what would work with my jet black hair. The process took a bit of time but it was nice chatting with her about our kids. After 2.5 hrs i was really happy with the way the color came out. Im always afraid of the color looking too light or brassy but the balayage blended nicely with my black hair. Finally a color i love! Ill be back for future upkeeps. Danny at Salon SCK is amazing. I usually go to him for a blow dry and he does a very good job. He is so down-to-earth and just pleasant to be around. I have never had a bad experience.That make-up, however, is a different story. I got make-up done here and the girl did such a poor job. It barely looked like I had anything on. I asked for natural with more color and when I saw it was so natural that it looked like nothing I asked for color, but she just didn't get it. I also asked for more around my eyes but even the liner wasn't good. I felt like she just didn't get what would work on me and did a sub-par job but charged me $100!!! It was the worst spent money. Anyway, I went to my birthday party that night and people told me after that it didn't even look like I had make-up on, in fact a few days after when they saw how I applied my own make-up so many of my friends commented that it looked much better than what I got done here. So yes I was very disappointed that I spent so much money and didn't get good make-up done. The salon itself is great and everyone is pleasant. I recommend it for hair but not make-up. More...

Yes there is a salon on nearly every corner of NYC but none is as professional with as nice a staff as SCK. I stumbled upon the salon while needing to get a blowout a few months ago. I've now gone back two times for blowouts and makeup. SCK is a first-class experience. Don't be surprised if the staff remembers your first and last name when you call to book an appointment. I came to salon SCK for a event with yelp elite and I loved my styling session with Devin Toth. He took the time to helping me achieve the hair style that I wanted even though 1) I was going straight home after 2) I was sweaty AF. I can really tell that he knows his way around hair. He's one of the stylists that actually take the time to work with you through the process to make sure that you're really getting what W A N T. Devin Toth taught me everything I know about hair :) I discovered this georgeous second floor gem in the heart of Columbus Circle about 5 years ago and never went anywhere else since. Devin is a wizard with scissors!! And not only that, he also took the time to show me how to completely transform my stubbornly lifeless fine hair into voluminous and beautiful locks. Seriously, my hair is difficult since it is easily weighted down or dried out by products that promise "volume", but... Devin. Just. Gets. It. I generally don't even come in with a particular style in mind. From the moment I sit in his chair, j absolutely trust his sense of style and more importantly he just understands his clients after the initial consultation. He even generously offered his time to show me a sampling of the countless techniques he knows that would be appropriate for my hair type, and the style I am hoping to achieve. It's been revolutionary! I now know how to work with my hair in a way I never have before, and I haven't stopped receiving compliments from colleagues, friends, and strangers in the street! Request for Devin! Kelly also put in beautiful balayage highlights to my hair that were exactly as I had requested. She is patient and kind, and again, she just gets her clients. As for the salon itself, it's simply impeccable. As other reviewers have already commented here, the front staff are so friendly and complimentary, and the space is beautifully decorated. Melinda was accommodating, friendly, and professional. I came in with difficult to work with hair that has been bleached treated and damaged. i was unhappy with how the color has faded to an uninspiring beige (from silver). She listened to me and took the time to discuss what can and cannot be done, and once we reached a decision she stayed after closing time to meticulously finish the color job. I love this salon. Ryan cuts my hair which is very thick and curly and does an amazing job. I've dreamily walked past the salon's beautiful 2nd-story windows in the past, which is what led me to track down the name of the salon in the first place. Experiencing the place inside was everything I dreamed it would be: great service on all levels, great atmosphere, and, most importantly, great haircut! I have long hair, so I'm pretty bad about prioritizing getting a haircut. By the time I do, it usually feels like an emergency situation where I schedule the next available time slot at any random place. In the past, I've had better and worse experiences, but never had an "OMG, I finally found my salon" moment. ...but now I have. I have been going to Danny Garrity for a little over a year now. He is the only person who I actually trust to cut my hair -- which is a shame since I now don't even live in NYC. I have thick, curly hair and I've found that it's very rare for someone to know how to cut this kind of hair properly. I have always been blown away with how Danny cuts my hair and it grows out flawlessly. He makes good recommendations and takes his time. I live in San Francisco and I got a horrible haircut that needed to be fixed. I was flying back to NYC to visit family the following week and immediately went to Danny to have it fixed. I have been going to Salon SCK for three years now, and have such a consistently good experience every time. I see Devin for cut / styling and Heather for color.  I have long straight hair that is fine but thick, and it has the potential to be monotonous but Devin always cuts such a great shape and teaches me new styling techniques on every visit. Heather does balayage on my hair, which is more expensive than traditional foils but well worth it, as I prefer a more natural looking color that grows out well.
