Sally was thoroughly professional & helpful from our initial query, through the brief, drafting & feedback stages to the finished design. She took the trouble to read our anthology manuscript before developing sketches. This meant her artwork had a strong organic relationship to the whole collection as well as individual pieces. We were thrilled with her final cover art and hope to work with Sally again on our book covers. More...

I've had the opportunity to work with Sally on two family trails for the SS Great Britain and on both occasions she's been outstanding! She's a great collaborator and so receptive to ideas. She has a fantastic eye for detail and responds brilliantly to feedback during a project. Her illustrations are packed full of character and creativity. Sally is so conscientious, you can trust her to care as much about your project as you do. More...

Collaborating with Sally has been great: She was able to work to an extremely tight timescale; she was prepared to visit our site and meet face to face when necessary; she really ran with the brief bringing her own creative ideas but responding positively to our input and amendments. Together we've created a really lovely family trail. More...

Sally has been amazing throughout this project, keeping me fully informed of progress and sending snippets of the work as she went. There was a slight delay from the timescales originally set but Sally was honest about this and I appreciate that, and it only added an extra couple of days to the project, which was still completed in plenty of time for our event. All in all I would recommend Sally for any illustrative work, we will definitely be using her again. More...

It has been an absolute delight to work with Sally on our new family portrait trail which is produced as part of the partnership between the National Trust at Montacute House and the National Portrait Gallery. Sally's full understanding and appreciation of the brief was apparent from the outset and resulted in a series of captivating illustrations which showcased her creative flair, imagination and meticulous attention to detail. Her willingness to work with me at each step of the process was greatly appreciated and nothing was too much trouble for her. I feel very pleased to have had the opportunity to work alongside such an immensely talented illustrator and I wish her well with future projects. More...

Thank you Tracey. It was an honour to be commissioned by two such prestigious organisations but more so, I was completely inspired by your passion for this project and we were both so fortunate to work alongside professionals with the same vision. I wish you well and happiness for the future.

I have worked with Sally on redesigning and updating our web site for over 2 years and everyone has noticed how much better it looks. Sally has also been helping us with social media. We have also had lots more traffic and inquiries, resulting in more business from our new look web site. Sally has also been helpful in other IT issues and nothing is too much trouble. Sally is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend her. More...

Sally presented me with a range of contrasting and imaginative design ideas for my book cover. The difficult task for me was which one to choose! A thoroughly professional designer/illustrator. I will definitely use her again for my next project. D A Bardsley (Mill Wall) More...
Describe your creative process.
I like to read a copy of the book/magazine/pamphlet/article first, in order to create the right atmosphere, for the book cover or illustration.
I will then create a series of mind-maps using keywords and sketched visuals, which may then inspire mood boards of colours, external imagery, connections of words. Following this, I will create a series of hand-drawn initial concepts, for the client to choose from.

What do you love most about your job?
Illustrating and designing has been my absolute passion from childhood. However, I never thought I could make a career of it when I left school. It was not the best of times to succeed in the industry and I was not ready. I can say that now. So I began a career in engineering. I loved being an engineer; the designing, the problem solving, the working relationships, but I always hoped one day I would return to Illustration and Design. However, that dream never got any nearer for me. In 2013 I took voluntary redundancy from my engineer job and almost immediately enrolled on a BA (Hons) Illustration and Design with University of Hertfordshire. I am now doing what I have always wanted to do, but I have the advantage of my wealth of experience in life and my work that I didnt have when I left school. I love every minute of it; the designing, the problem solving, the working relationships.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have always imagined myself as an artist; isolated, but free to decide when and where I worked. My work life to date, has been anything but isolating. The main reason why I started working for myself is so that I can control a balance. I have really enjoyed working in a team and I do miss it now I am a professional freelancing Illustrator/Designer, which is why I volunteer for local charitable organisations when I can; for the social aspect but also because I like to be useful. I can now control the balance of both worlds.
