Sagato Bakery & Café

I came here because I watched the Great British Baking show and had the need for some savory pies, and there are three places in Salt Lake that offer them. I have now been to all three and frankly, Sagato was the absolute best. The pies were incredibly flaky and the fillings were delicious. I bought two because they looked small, then only ate one because it was so filling. Combine the pies with the amazing cakes and you have one of the best savory and sweet combinations in existence. I went for lunch and ended up trying 4 pies (potato top, chicken curry, steak and mushroom, steak and cheese), the fish & chips, the Kekepua'a, and 5 dessert items (custard tart, cream puff with Nutella, Lamington, Koko Samoa Bundt cake, and the shortbread) with my group. Everything was really good, and the fish pieces were huge and probably the best fried fish I have had in the area! My favorite pies were the potato top pie and the steak and cheese pie, but all 4 were really good. My favorite dessert was the Lamington (standard chocolate one) but the cream puff with Nutella was a close second. I will definitely be heading back for more. More...

First time to Sagato. We had chicken pie and Kalua pork plate. Chicken pie was delicious! Lots of food on the plate!! Pork was soooo tender. Picked up a few baked goods too but haven’t tried yet. But...they look awesome. The cafe has a beautiful mural on the wall. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Cafe is clean, nice ambiance and music. This place has some delicious food! The meat pies are amazing. The fish and chips have been the best I’ve had yet! The plate portion sizes are big. The pig is my favorite but the chicken and beef is also very delicious. I returned within 24 hrs lol that’s how good it is and i have already recommended to a ton of friends and family. Sagato Bakery and Cafe is the Polynesian hidden gem of Salt Lake. This place is almost a year old and the restaurant is extremely clean, so stylish and very chic. The pastries are freshly made, authentic and light. The cream puffs are delicious. I order one of each because I can't choose! Whatever you do, GO GO GO to this place for authentic delicious island food! The staff is down to earth friendly and so helpful and polite. This is probably the best bakery that I've been to in Utah. I love how all of the pastries are Polynesian style. I tried their potatoe pie, steak & cheese, and the strawberry Nutella cream puff. All were very good! My favorite is probably the steak & cheese pie. The savory pies all had a crispy flakey crust that I love. The cream puff was yummy without being overly sweet.I thought thought that service was really good as well! Everyone was really nice and there was always someone at the front counter, which I find worth pointing out because at most places the staff would just go to the back room.Lots of seating and it's clean! There's no WiFi here so you probably can't do any studying if you need the internet. Aside from that I would definitely come here again and would recommend trying. More...

I recommend anyone going to Utah to visit Sagato their pastries are super good I was there this past Friday and tried out their peach tart and half moon pie they were a hit.
