Ruth's Chris Steak House

There are two Ruth's Chris Steak Houses in Indianapolis, and they are the two best steakhouses I know of. That includes St. Elmo's, Morton's, JW (in London), Shula's, and a number of other fairly famous places in Miami, San Jose, San Francisco, and elsewhere. (I like steak, particularly a good filet.) Curiously, the two Ruth's Chrises in Indianapolis are also dramatically better than Ruth's Chrises I've tried in several other cities. I used to slightly prefer the downtown Ruth's Chris, for ambiance, but the Northside Ruth's Chris moved a few years back and I might slightly prefer it now. But either of them will give you the best filet mignon you'll ever taste. The service is also stellar. Side dishes like the potatoes au gratin and sautéed spinach (the menu only offers creamed spinach, but if you just ask they'll do up a much nicer sauté) are great. Good drinks, wine, espresso, desserts. It's basically a perfect meal. This is our go-to place for anniversaries, quiet birthdays, and just to have a great steak dinner. Enjoy! More...

Still one of the best places on the North side of Indy. I have no clue what the Happy Hour special is anymore. Came in on a Thursday expecting a few dollars of some of the bar menu only to find out that some of the items are half off. Hey, I am getting a steak for $13, no complaints. We took a young couple with us to Ruth's Chris that had never been. They were completely blown away by the experience. As usual, the steaks were perfectly prepared and all the appetizers and sides were delicious. Our waiter Grant took care of our every need and we could not have had a better time. My wife, neighbor couple and I came for a 5 course dinner with wine paring. Here's what I remember.  First of all you can never go wrong here. The staff is first class, as well as service and food, so what more can I say?  For this event we had our own private room but with cruise ship seating. In other words in this case we shared a table with 3 people we didn't know. It was all good though, we all hit it off nicely. Each course with wine paring was phenomenal. Believe it or not my only issue was that there was a little too much wine with each course. BTW, if you are on a budget this is not the place for you. It is very pricey but worth every cent if you enjoy fine dining and great service. But course after course was perfect as was the wine paring. I have been wanting to come here for the longest time as all my coworkers rave about it. Wife and the baby came here for happy hour and got seated in the outside atrium area which is beautiful. Our waitress was very friendly and accompanying as we had to make space for the stroller. We enjoyed the pomegranate martini and Ruth Manhattan as they were the popular drinks. The pomegranate martini is very sweet but flavorful. The Manhattan is like very similar to an ol fashion with the bitter flavors. For food we I had the steak sandwich with fries and we also ordered the grilled chicken that came with a salad. The steak sandwich was very filling and came with lots of meat which is what I needed. The grilled chicken sandwich was full of some much flavor with the pesto sauce and the fruit salad (berries and strawberries). Definitely come back and recommend for happy hour. More...

It's a chain.  I was hesitant, but my out of town guests insisted they wanted a steakhouse.What we got was a wonderful evening! The best filet I've ever had, but the service really made it great.  Our server couldn't have been more personable, and after the food arrived no fewer than 3 people stopped by to make sure everything was perfect.  The medium rare filet was perfectly cooked and delicious.Additionally, I indicated on the reservation website that it was a birthday special occasion and every staff member we interacted with asked whose birthday it was.  Overall, a memorably good meal and evening - and I wouldn't hesitate to go back! We didn’t know what to expect for our two year anniversary dinner. Ruth’s Chris popped up as a romantic place to go and it was everything we wanted! Ruth's chris has always been on my list of steakhouses. I was actually under the impression that all steakhouses were created equal until last two weeks ago. This location was very impressive and the service was par excellence. I am definitely a believer. I made a reservation on open table which definitely got me a better seat than walking in off the street. Barry was my waiter and he was very experienced and attentive. He told great stories and solicited reasonable recommendations. If you go on the website some locations offer the pre fix menu for lunch, but this location does not participate in that program. We ended up ordering a steak with asparagus and salmon with corn. You must ask for the bread and it is definitely worth the ask. I will probably be back in the next few weeks. More...

Generally, Ruth's Chris is spot on with all of their dishes. However, I was disappointed with a few dishes during my recent birthday dinner. The service was great as always. The Ruth's Classic is a great deal. I chose the ribeye, Lobster Bisque, and potato stack. The steak was cooked to perfection. The bisque was good, but a little on the salty side. The potato stack looked very tasty. However, I was very disappointed that some parts of it were cold. I chose the potato stack after I had to return the mashed potatoes. I have grown very fond of Ruth's Chris and for very good reason - delicious food, amazing customer service, and great ambiance. A few friends and I were out for a celebration and what better way to celebrate than at Ruth's Chris! We arrived at 4:30pm on a Sunday. We had a reservation made prior to going but it wasn't too busy at the time we went, anyway.The menu is full of delicious options. It was pretty difficult to pick! We started with an order of Calamari (~$18). It was lightly fried, with sweet & spicy Asian chili sauce. I would have preferred the sauce be on the side instead of all over the calamari since it became soggy fairly quickly. I still enjoyed it; the calamari was crispy and cooked well! I also got a Nola Mule Cocktail (~$14) which is ketel one vodka with ginger and fresh lime juice. It was a nice, sweet, refreshing drink. I particularly loved the ginger; it wasn't too overpowering! For my entree, I ordered the Petit Filet & Shrimp (~$54) which includes two 4 oz medallions topped with large shrimp. I asked the medallions be cooked medium. We also got a side of Au Gratin (~$12) and Cremini Mushrooms (~$12). The Au Gratin is Idaho sliced potatoes topped with a three cheese sauce and the Cremini Mushrooms are pan-roasted and topped with thyme.Everything came out in a timely manner and I was super excited to dig in. The medallions were cooked to a perfect medium. They were super moist and flavorful! The shrimp was a huge plus. I love me some good surf n turf, and this dish was a good balance of that. The shrimp was well-seasoned and complimented the steak well. The au gratin potatoes were so addicting! I was surprised at how delicious they were and how well it went with the dish. There was plenty of cheese and the potatoes were sliced fairly thin. The Cremini mushrooms gave the meal a more savory twist and went well with the potatoes! Both sides were solid and I can see them going well with various dishes they offer!Since we were there for a celebration, they also offered a complimentary Bread Pudding & Ice Cream dessert which was very nice of them. The bread pudding was super warm and sweet. It was a good contrast from the ice cream, which is why they went well together.Overall, this was an amazing time. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was quick and efficient. I definitely left feeling satisfied and fulfilled. We all left with full stomachs and full smiles! More...
