I live right around the corner and decided to give this place a shot one day. I got wings, Mac & cheese and yams. I also got their French toast another time. The wings are good but the actual chicken is not seasoned. Usually places get away with this because the breading on the chicken is seasoned heavy but this isn't the case here. The chicken is still good nonetheless but can definitely be better. The Mac and cheese was a little too watery for me at first but after I let it sit for a while, it got firm and tasted so much better. The yams were firm but not too firm. I would've been a fan if the sauce was thicker. The sauce for this is too watery and it has a hint of orange along with brown sugar and cinnamon. Not really a fan of the citrus flavor because it made it tangy but it was still good. The French toast was okay, nothing too fancy. Just average French toast with a SMALL hint of vanilla. More...

From the old town Bowie feels outside to the grandma's house decor inside I knew I was in for a treat.  There was no line to order and the cashier greeted me enthusiastically.  I fumbled with my order but she brought me right on track.  They took my number and said they would text me when my food was ready GREAT.  16 minute wait.  My food was still hot when I got home 20 minutes later.  Mac and Cheese-10, Yams-10, Blackened Salmon-8 (I'll try the bbq chicken next time).  Overall 5 stars for organized ordering system, class A customer service and great hot food. There were maybe two high tables set up, but not conducive for a family meal. We had a car seat and could not comfortably enjoy dining in the experience, because we didn't feel comfortable.Overall the food  was good and there was a good variety. I stopped by Ruby's after passing by it so many times for the first time today. Usually the parking lot is active so I thought something good must be going on in there so why not find out what the noise is about.  It's a cute spot with a small area to eat in and an outdoor patio for the warmer months that can hold quite a few.  Ruby's has a lot of offerings all sounding yummy.  Very southern for sure. I opted to try the barbecue and fried wings, collards, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread, and a biscuit.  All of this for two adults (not just me -lol).  The food is cooked fresh and the portions are generous.  The food is good!  I especially liked the flavor of the barbecue ribs and the mac & cheese. I love my cornbread sweet and I got what I wanted.  There are a host of traditional desserts but I passed this time around.  I will try the deep fried cheesecake on my next visit.  In addition you can find all of your southern teas and lemonades. If you have a hunkering for southern food Ruby's is worth your time. More...

Best to order ahead for this place or you will be waiting awhile as they cook your food fresh. You could also order from their hot bar with no wait. I had the fried whiting, Mac and cheese and greens with cornbread. I also got the salted caramel bread pudding. The bad: I got 2 big pieces of fish, unfortunately neither piece was seasoned. It was just breaded and fried. I saw the lady sprinkle what looked like seasoning on the fish, but idk where it went lol. It also was not a filet, so there were alot of bones. The cornbread was really dry and kinda hard. Maybe I should have warmed it up?The good: The portions are large! Luckily everything else outside of the fish was really good! The greens and Mac (baked to perfection) were really seasoned and the salted caramel bread pudding was soooooo good. I warmed it up and it tasted like it came right out of the oven! I'd definitely go back for the sides and to try their other desserts and main options. There was plenty of parking. You can eat inside as there are a few tables and it was clean. However, it seems like most people do to-go orders. More...

Ruby's is definitely a hidden gem. We found out about it a while ago but finally decided to go recently when we tried to go to another nearby restaurant only to find out they weren't open yet. Best decision we made. Service was great from the time we came in to the time we left. Everyone was so friendly. They even offer free coffee and hot tea. The amount of food you get for the price is reasonable. I ordered blackened salmon with green beans and Holy Trinity (greens, tomatoes, and cornbread). Everything was good! I didn't notice the tomatoes, which was fine because I'm not a huge fan of tomatoes. The sauce that was on the blackened salmon was really delicious. I think Ruby's is great and I will make that an option on my restaurant list when I'm in Bowie. More...

Solid Southern food from this little shop.  My wife got herb-roasted chicken with holy trinity and mac 'n cheese, while I got the blackened salmon with fried cabbage and green beans.  The flavors for everything were well-balanced, and the salmon was worth the wait (they made it fresh after I'd ordered).  Only a couple of seats inside though, so takeout seems to be the name of the game. My husband and I went to Ruby's after rave reviews by our family and friends who told us about it. Simply put, the service is quick. The food is super fresh, flavorful and well prepared. The staff were professional. I got the smothered chicken over rice with greens and sweet potatoes with a biscuit on the side. The greens were on the money. Not overly salty or bitter, the flavor was balanced. Oh and the biscuits are soooo good. They are perfectly light and fluffy with a hint of honey and butter. I got some to go as well, and I'm not that into bread like that, but these biscuits are something else .... jokers got me hooked. My husband got the blackberry short ribs and of course like a good wife, I was all up in his plate... I'm telling y'all ... Those ribs were banging! Fall off the bone type, and the blackberry aspect was a superb compliment for the flavor of the meat. Great home cooked quality food 'to go'! Really, what more could you ask for! The fried or bbq chicken wings are delicious, as is the fried whiting (this may be a bit salty for some but was perfect for my family). My daughter enjoys their blackened salmon; and the oxtail is pretty tasty. The sides are fresh and very well prepared: sweet potatoes, cabbage, greens, green beans, black eyed peas, Mac & Cheese (I like a bit more cheese in mine) but it's still pretty good...and get this, if the veggies are cooked with meat, it's smoked turkey and not pork for non-pork eaters like many of my family members.  Their biscuits are large and fluffy with a slight coating of buttered honey (at least it tastes like honey) and the corn bread is good but extremely sweet (reminds me of cake), so it's not my favorite but some of my family members enjoy it. On Friday's they have specials not on the weekly menu and this past weekend one of the specials were grilled ribs...OMG, they were amazing! So delicious that my out of town guest asked me to get the exact same food from this location and the Samosa place beside it for dinner again on Saturday. I happily agreed and we ate great for 2 days. Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed.  There's lots more on the menu so check it out. It's truly a hidden gem! More...

Some coworkers and myself ordered takeout from Ruby's Southern Kitchen today and the food was simply amazing. I ordered the PoBoy lunch special with a side of Mac & Cheese and Collard Greens. My PoBoy included some of the best fried shrimp, seasoned to perfection, inside of a hoagie roll with lettuce, tomato, and light dressing. This sandwich was bigger than I expected and I enjoyed every bite. The PoBoy was accompanied by a decent sized serving of tasty french fries and a cup of coleslaw (I did not try the coleslaw because it's not my favorite- however my coworkers said it was good). Robert's Mac & Cheese was everything you want it to be. Creamy, tangy, cheesy, and delightful- I even had a few crunchy edges. The Aunt Ruth's Holy Trinity collard greens taste just like your grandma cooked them, there is smoked ham hock mixed through out. My sister order the ribs, green beans, yams, and mac & cheese along with the freshly squeezed lemonade. Some of the items (fried foods and breakfast items) are made to order, other items (baked or grilled) are already prepared. Mac & cheese was amazing...cheesy and creamy, just like I like it! The rice and gravy was good but I could've used a little more gravy and the rice could've been cooked just a little longer. The fried chicken was good, however, next time I would request that it's cooked just a tad bit longer.  Some pieces were golden brown while other were a little. Now the ribs were *drool* the bbq sauce was really good and they were grilled to perfection. The other sides were good as well, no complaints here. Last but no least, the lemonade...it was so refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness.
