What do you love most about your job?
I began to suffer from low back pain at the age of eighteen, due to stress put upon it from a hard training routine as a gymnast of over eight years exerience, combined with manual labour work. The pain became chronic and, as those who suffer from low back pain will know, invaded my life not just in the physical sense, but in the emotional too. I sought after an alternative form of exercise that might help heal my back, and was lucky enough to stumble upon Tai Chi with the Rose Li School. The relief from pain started quite early during my practice, a benefit from the core strengthening, stretching and the correction of posture involved with the art. I was sold early on and stuck at it, discovering, not only physical healing, but mental and emotional too. My committed practice - which developed into practicing the whole system of martial arts with the Rose Li School - has led to a settling of my mind and emotions, as well as providing a greater sense of presence in my daily life. So here I am, having been given the rubber stamp by my teacher, I have decided to start up my own classes and private tuition in order to pass on these benefits and more to others out there who may be seeking what I originally sought or something else that can be gained from practicing the Chinese Internal Martial Arts.

Research has found that Tai Chi can help ease stress and anxiety, leading to a better quality of life. It can also help slow you down and become more present and aware of your actions and the world around you leading to a sense of having more time and appreciation for the ‘here and now’. Through controlled trials, Tai Chi has been found to improve balance, boost the immune system, improve bone health and benefit the cardiopulmonary system. Tai Chi in our system of Internal Martial Arts, which originated from Beijing, has been developed over a number of generations in order to use a logical, down to-earth approach to practicing the art based on fundamental principles from its Eastern origins, while integrating the knowledge of sports, medical and other physical sciences. A regular practice of Tai Chi need not take up too much of your time, and can fit in with all kinds of lifestyles and schedules. As little as 10 minutes a day can allow you to experience some of the benefits that this art has to offer. With private tuition you will get in-depth guidance and tuition tailoured to your own needs and the experienced advice of the instructor on how best to optimise your learning of the art, as well as unique ways of looking at how a regular practice can benefit and be integrated into your daily life Our Tai Chi courses comprise of a set number of four, eight, twelve or sixteen one hour sessions which can cover a period of anywhere between four to sixteen weeks, depending on your preferences. The time, place and frequency of sessions are personally tailoured to to fit in with your schedule, though it is often advised that only two sessions a week maximum are undertaken in order for tuition to sink in. All of courses are designed with set goals in mind within certain time-frames, but, at the same time, take an organic approach that will evolve with your own personal style of learning. Sessions take place indoors in professional studios or at a your home, depending on preference. Rose Li East is local to Greenwich, Bermondsey and Canary Wharf, though sessions can also be arranged in Central London.
