R. is in R&B...Rose & Basil. though i do "luvz" me some 90s Rhythm&Blues..."Motownphilly's back again. Doing a lil east coast swing. ..Boyz II Men, Boyz, Boyz, Boyz, Boyz II Men, A B C, B B D" i digress/ i'm an idiot. one in the same. hahaRose & Basil is a welcome addition to east village as many of my favorite shop, eateries, bars, etc. get overrun and replaced by faceless chains or trend-chasing scheme-sters which lack any personality. thankfully businesses like Rose & Basil restore my faith and are replenishing the neighborhood's foundation of creativity and community.the space and vibe itself is as much a part of the experience of Rose & Basil as is its teas, coffees, baked items, and other sweet or savory confections. visually, it feels as if you are walking into a child's storybook...from the quaint table and seating outside the entrance to the flowery decor inside. the space for a walk-down gets a nice amount of natural light...sun-soaked at certain partx of the day only add to the charm.the decor has a whimsical flurry of eclectic touches throughout from the flowers, cushions, tables, displays, and other small touches that pull you through a colorful vision that doesn't constrict but expands your definition of what a neighborhood coffee/tea/treats place could be. the vision, feel, scents, and tastes seem to come out of energy-filled pages from fairy tales we all share as kids...whether you were born in New York or New Zealand. i wouldn't say there is a blatant theme bc that would make Rose & Basil kitschy. the ambience is inspired because it takes risks with the reckless abandon as we all used to as kids. a thread of kindness and safe haven ties the space together unabashedly. wide-eyed wonder is alive.truth be told...i have never sat here and soaked in the ambience for long stretches. often times, i observe then grab-n-go. it could be that i'm completely over- or under-scheduled and therefore am off to pull shenanigans. or perhaps the natural meditative vibe strolls counter against my faster than high-speed wifi life of clicking/swiping/ and other attention-deficit activities. or it's simply that in a fairy-tale-like-ambience--is the Big Bad Wolf (aka me) welcome? to be continued for the wolf of east village...why do i come here? for the finely-brewed organic teas which i ask to be poured over ice, year round. yeah i am one of those people. icy. ha. the pre-batched Lavender Earl Grey has a nice touch with a little bit of simple syrup (which you can add yourself). other times i opt for the Earl Grey (no lavender) over ice, when i have time for them to brew and do the pour-over. both have a nice caffeine kick without stirring you up with the jitters. the black tea had a nice finish too. all in all (forgive the pun) TEArrific.why haven't i tried the various confections like the truffles, cookies, and the list goes on? honestly, fear of becoming addicted. the staff? young. chill. friendly. good attitude. what more can you want.the customers? locals. neighborhoodlums like me (seewhatididthere! ha). passerbys. a mix of ages. and fair amount of people taking food photog and food selfies as the Rose & Basil has that backdrop and interior for those who live pictorially online. all in all, a good crowd sans one (ME!). every story needs a villain! lol *twisiting my non-existent moustache* haaaaathe team or individuals behind Rose & Basil? super responsive. i had a question about the Lavender Early Grey. i messaged via yelp. and Ioana, the owner, replied back immediately. it's one thing to have a great product (the space, the brewed beverages, baked eats, etc.) and it's another to have customer care that reflects the values of great product. hat tip to that.drops mic cuz i should use my "inside" voice here More...

Adorable is the best way to describe this place :) the adorable dog the worker had was icing on the cake. Had a Groupon for 2 coffees and a gift box chocolate here. The Groupon is for standard coffee, but I paid the extra dollar to up it to the special coffees (cuz I'm here, why not try their specialties?) And they were great. I got one iced rose latte and one iced lavendar latte. They are a little sweet for me, but next time I'll just see if they can tone down the sweetness. But the rose and lavender flavors were wonderful and yummy. The décor was great and the workers were so sweet and kind, they even let me charge my phone. Again, the dog was a great bonus. I did not try their cakes, but they looked really pretty, and the chocolates I ate later were nicely flavored and a real treat. Great place to chill with friends over good coffee or impress a first date. More...

Dropped by today to buy box of chocolate truffles for my kids, also bought my wife's favorite lavender and chocolate cake. If you aren't sure about lavender, it might not be the thing for you, as their flavors are very particular, but my wife loves it. And while I was waiting I had a Matcha Latte. There were people of all ages here, so I guess they do a good job of making it a place for everyone. There were people working on computer and some couples that looked like they were on a date. The barista showed me some new menus they had designed. I didn't realize they have essentially a full menu. They don't do a full dinner menu, but there's savory items for most parts of a day, and a brunch apparently. More...

Just wandering by and the lights and colors caught our eye. Just been in the city for a few months now so everythign is new and fresh but I’ve never been anywhere like this. Space was definitely floral and played it up. Wait staff was quick to greet us and seat us, place was about half full for an early dinner. Saw some people eating small cakes, so we saved that in our brains for after food. Got the salmon and some salad I forget the name of. Arugula was good and dressing was light but good. Salmon and rice has some fruit hints in it that played really well. Overall a good time and hopefully we can see everything else and come back soon. Too full for cakes though. More...

Rose & Basil was the perfect place to visit for what we were looking for. We tried a few desserts like the mousse cake. It was finished with fresh and edible flowers and bite-sized truffles and the flower inspired drinks were to die for. The cakes were not too sweet, but moist and delicious. Everything on the menu seems to be made with unique recipes. I didn't expect the range of the menu just from the outside.
If you're fan of desserts, this is the right place for you. And if you don't want to sacrifice the taste for the healthier version, this is also a dessert place for you. Staff was friendly and accommodating, and you will love the ambiance if you like a seasonal flair with changing colors. It's really nice to hang out with someone you love; this will be highly recommended with my family and friends.

I guess I'm the first customer to do so, which was fun. Had a cappuccino which was super smooth. Didn't try any other food but the menu looks interesting. The owner said they change their menu up seasonally, so I guess I'll be back often to try all the new stuff. More...

My girlfriend and I were looking for a place where we can sit awhile and talk after roaming around the city whole day. We passed by your place and caught our attention. The white twinkling lights and a little white table and chairs out front. I like the ambiance of the place, lots of roses and pastel colors, cute decorations, and a great place to stay for a few hours on a lazy afternoon. I ordered an espresso and homemade vegan treats, while my girlfriend ordered a few truffles and it was presented to her in a small glass pedestal with glass covering! Their food presentation is very unique. It was really good experience and made my girlfriends trip to New York complete. We will try to make it back soon. My overall experience with this place was marvelous, their customer service was charming and filled us both in on everything they had on the menu. I also saw lots of people parked there working, so it's nice to have a cafe to relax and do work. Some tend to shuffle you out after a while. Relaxing atmosphere all around and I'll have to try some of their additional delicacies upon return. Recommend this spot to anyone looking for a cafe with a unique twist and interesting menu.
