Excellent little hotel , set in its own grounds with a picturesque stretch of river , reception , bar and lounge, lovely olde worlde atmosphere from a bygone era, we took the choice of the taster menu for dinner , food was excellent , as was breakfast, only criticism was the maitre d , who deterred from the overall relaxed atmosphere of the hotel , verging on the Basil Fawlty at times , this type of table service adds nothing to the ambiance of the hotel , leave it to the polite and very capable young service staff please.

My parents stayed at The Roman Camp Hotel during their honeymoon 59 years ago. My family and I have often driven past the rather hidden entrance to the drive, and wondered what it was like. |Last night, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, my wife and I decided to stay the night. What a wonderful hotel ! |The gentleman on Reception was great; our room , with jacuzzi bath, was charming; the dinner was delicious; the downstairs reception rooms were delightful and atmospheric; the hotel grounds, and gardens were fantastic. |This morning, bright and early we went down to a stone table and bench beside the River Teith, and sat with our hot chocolates and watched the water flow by. We then wandered around the grounds and walked garden- and said hello to some ponies as well. |The Roman Camp was everything we hoped it would be, and more. |We hope to come back. |ND More...

This is an amazing comfortable country house hotel. The whole hotel is beautifully furnished in a period style. It has coal fires which add to the ambiance. The breakfasts are great quality with plenty of choice. The staff are well trained and very attentive. The 5 course taster type evening menu is nothing short of masterful. The grounds are spacious and great for a short explore. All in all this is a lovely comfortable hotel. More...

We spent one night and enjoyed dinner at the six hundred year old Roman Camp. The setting is stunning and the building itself, once a hunting lodge for the Earls of Moray, is like going back in time. We had afternoon tea by the fire when we arrived. We walked through the little town and visited the waterfalls, just a short hike from the hotel. Our every need was met by eager staff, sometimes literally at a run. The evening meal began with drinks in the lounge and then offered a set menu which we both chose. This was a lovely dining experience in a gorgeous old room with a big fire place and windows all around. Our food was lovely and the entire experience was a pleasure. More...

Just back from three days stay at the Roman Camp Hotel and all I can say is the whole experience was fantastic from the surroundings to breakfast and meals in the potting shed. The staff are a real credit to the hotel and we will definitely be back, a five minute walk had you in the middle of the Main Street which meant no driving for the duration of our stay. Bracklinn Falls is a real gem to visit, the shops and eateries in Callendar were warm and friendly which added to the whole experience. More...

We stayed here for a couple of nights while walking in the area. The hotel is in a lovely location, off the main road so it’s really quiet. It’s got great character but could probably do with a bit of TLC. Our room was lovely with dual aspect windows, one looked out over a flat roof which the hotel peacocks spent a lot of time on, much to our amusement. We ate in the little bistro restaurant which is in a converted potting shed and it was great. Food was lovely, the service was friendly and it had a great drinks menu. More...

We went to Roman Camp on a whim, as we were in Scotland for our honeymoon. We went for afternoon tea and can honestly say it was the best experience we have ever had. Staff showed us in and we had a choice of the many rooms to have the afternoon tea in. Each room was decorated with its colour themed Christmas tree. Staff were amazing. The customer service was 5 star and they lit the open fire for us.||The afternoon tea itself was off the scale. So delicious! We were left alone to enjoy and chill, without us feeling like there was no one around. Tea pots were filled up regularly and the fire kept going. They were just the best.||The food was brilliant and staff even boxed up what we couldn’t eat for us to take home. This is the afternoon tea experience that we measure all others against.||When in Scotland next, we will definitely be going there again. More...

We stay for 1 night in one of their vittorian room and we also had dinner in their restaurant. Their location is absolutely amazing. They have 4 wonderful common rooms where the guests can have an aperitive before dinner in front of a warm fireplace. The waiter will take your order from there and he will accompany at the table when the dinner is ready. You can take the menu of the day or order a la carte. We choose the menu that was composed by 2 starter (scallops and a pea soup), 1 main (duck) and 1 dessert. After that you can choose to stay at the table or go back to the fireplace rooms to have a coofee or a tea with some sweets. Service was outstanding for all the evening and thd food was well cooked and well presented. As for the night we slept really well in our rooms with very good bed and pillows. There were also people returning having had their wedding there years ago, they absolutely adored it. This place was just luxury for us. Shabby? Chic? Perhaps. It was oldy worldy and we adored it.
