Everyone wants lovely photographs to remember their wedding day by. Whether it’s so a bride can feel at her most beautiful or simply so everyone can avoid the terrible up-the-nose shots from Uncle Vernon, professional photography for most couples, budget-permitting, is a no-brainer. But who to pick and what to ask for can be incredibly confusing, particularly as most of us don’t have the technical knowledge to make sense of those pages on photographers’ websites which detail their ‘gear’. I came across RoKi Visuals on one of my many(!) google searches, in my desperate attempt to find affordable but high-quality photography, without the hideous flashy (I mean literally a flash gun in someone’s face) or stilted shots that some photographers ‘excel’ in. But from swapping emails and a pre-wedding meeting, it was clear that these guys would deliver far more than affordability and quality. More? Yes, more. Rollo and Kieran will not only deliver beautiful photos – and with me, far from an English rose, that’s already quite an achievement. These guys will make you feel at ease on one of the most nervous days of your life (yes, it is exciting but it’s also very scary). They will fit around the gaps in your day and let you enjoy a few precious moments with your new husband or wife. This in itself is quite an achievement, given that you spend most of the day ‘mingling’, often without your partner, with people you haven’t seen in several years or making awkward conversations with great aunts and… whoever that person over there was. They won’t order you around or make you feel uncomfortable and, best of all, they’ll encourage you to have fun with the person you love most. That fun can be anything from confetti cannons (we weren’t allowed these because of pregnant cows) and flares (that was excellent) to simply wandering to a more unusual and beautiful part of your venue/surrounds (grassy fields in our case, once I’d assessed the ground for shoe-suitability) – you and your partner really define these limits. With this fun comes great results – original photography that captures more than just a record of who was there or where you were, but the atmosphere and the little details that you will have agonized over for months.Getting your photographers right, not just their photographs, is something I gradually understood to be really important. Our guests even commented on how much they liked the photographers and felt at ease with them, although I’m not sure Kieran will entirely appreciate my best friend’s description of the ‘smiley bald one’.
