How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Permission isn't usually required for a garage conversion, provided the work is internal and doesn't involve enlarging the building. However, you should always check with your local authority's planning department first.
garages of listed buildings and conservation areas will require more legwork and you will need to seek local authority consultation.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
A garage conversion can be a great way to gain that extra space.
a conversion will sometimes require an internal leaf depending on whether it has single skin walls or twin skin and cavity.
usually is an internal leaf is required the wall will be an insulated, ply lined stud wall over-boarded and plastered.
you will need electrics and plumbing (for heating, if not using electric heaters) installed
garage door removed and blocked up with a window, door or both installed.
the garage floor will usually need to be raised and insulated.
decoration and second fix will happen at this stage.
the project should be overseen by local authorities building control and a completion certificate issued at the end of the project, this will enable the conversion to be legitimate should you wish to sell in the future.
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
A loft will firstly need a minimum head height off 2.2m, (this can be measured from the floor to the tallest part of the room.
around 90% of attics can be converted into usable space.
planning permission is not usually required as converting mostly falls under permitted development.
you will need the project to be over seen by building control so you can be issued with a completion certificate so that the bedroom/office area created can be marketed correctly when selling. An un authorised loft conversion can prove a serious issue for perspective buyers.

How long have you been in business?
RNM has been in business since 2017 following the success of my sole trader business.
What guarantee does your work come with?
All of our work comes with a guarantee, the length of the guarantee is dependant on the type of work carried out, each situation is based on its own merit.
What do you love most about your job?
Interacting with customers and bringing peoples visions to reality.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have spent my whole working life in the building trade and worked in all aspects of the trade over the years finally settling with carpentry as my area of perfection, I had been self employed for the most part of my career and it seemed like the logical step to open my own business and expand the area of works that we cover while maintaining high quality work using a team of highly skilled contractors.
I believe that the best advertising is word of mouth and our healthy organic growth over the last few years is testament to this.
