Q&As

What I love most about counselling is helping people to meet themselves.
I approach each session with no expectations or goals- but to accept each person as they choose to present themselves. The process happens naturally and at various paces- specific to each individual.
I have been very privileged to witness many individuals growth through therapy.

I have been training in Counselling since 2013. I started counselling my own clients in March 2015 as part of a charity , volunteer placement I set up in a deprived area in Bristol. I still volunteer with the Charity and have gained funding for the service to be coordinated by someone else now. So now is the time to expand my own private practice as well as the volunteer sector work.

I think its a really personal thing to choose the right therapist for you, I myself have had differing experiences and having the right relationship in the room with your counsellor is essential to the therapy being of real benefit to you.
I think if I was looking for a roofer or an I.T support person id check certain things about qualifications and likely reviews. I wouldn't really be wondering about the importance of a deep therapeutic relationship with them just about the job being done.
With a counsellor , yes absolutely ensure they are qualified, insured and registered to a governing body such as BACP or NCS ( I am NCS) but also if you are unsure I would call or arrange a call to you to have 10 minutes on the phone to get a feel for the counsellor and if they feel right for you.- The relationship will be key- that's my biggest advice.
Soon that premise my greatest strength in the field - while having all relevant qualifications and experience etc, is that I have a genuine warmth and I will listen attentively and I will be honest and gently challenge where appropriate.
I have had a really varied experience while working with clients with many complex issues. I can genuinely say that the feedback I have received personally from clients are that the therapy they have received has changed their lives.
I contract on the first session with you, and as the session draws to a close I will ask you if you want to continue working with me as your counsellor. it is absolutely ok if you say no, because its not about anyone being bad, sometimes people just don't match and that's ok! In my experience counselling so far- when I have asked a client if they would like to continue with me- I have never as of yet had a no.
