A lovely spot to moor for the night - tranquil! I stayed at the Richmond Inn with friends for 1 night before we took part in a local sporting event||||We had an excellent experience. The location was great and the accommodation meet all our expectations and needs and was very competitively priced . But most appreciated was the welcome, hospitality, friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff. Our 'special' pre race eating request was facilitated with a smile and the food was awesome - we 'licked the plates'. And the adhoc price was very generous to us. ||||Again our request for breakfast at 7:30 on Saturday morn was met with good grace and we enjoyed an excellent breakfast.||||I would happily recommend Richmond Inn Clondara at every opportunity and will stay there again. The venue itself is cosy, family friendly & old style Irish, a family run business, u always get a great welcome on arrival. The food is fantastic, big portions & very well priced, large roast dinners around 12 euro, wow...I made sure to return there recently for a family function, which was held in the private lounge, with plenty of space, we had around 45 people there, the service was 5star & extremely efficient, all the meals came out at same time, no wait, the waiters offered second portions & we got free tea, coffee, biscuits after, you couldn’t ask for more.. there was no rush as we had the lounge for the whole day so it was very relaxed. I would highly recommended this venue for special occasions, lunch & dinner, also for tourists as it’s right beside the canal, you’ll see the boats & beautiful scenery just outside of longford town, it’s a real hidden gem More...

We were one of two couples to stayed for two nights in mid to late July. The premises was chosen by the other couple who were looking for a base from which to explore as far away as Sligo and Enniskillen where they had not been previously. What a surprise! Delightfully situated beside the meeting of the Shannon and the Royal Canal in a very house-proud little village - Cloondra or Cloondara depending on which map or road sign you read - set back just off the main Dublin to Galway road, no more than 10km from Longford town, the Richmond looks as if I might have been a mill or workhouse in the distant past. ||Our genial host, who could not do enough for us, admitted that the place had had its heyday some years before when fishermen and boat enthusiasts flocked there from all over Europe. Brexit, emigration, the draw of the cities, lack of investment in tourism infrastructure were among the many factors cited as contributing to the decline. However, the house was full and the pub/dining room was busy. A full menu was offered and the meal was impressively good - so good in fact that we resolved to eat there again on our second evening. The bar was well stocked with a good choice of beers and ales on drought and a reasonable selection of wines. Our rooms were spacious with queen and single beds and large and spotlessly clean bathrooms. Breakfast was similarly excellent.||The was a delightful discovery and I have a feeling that we'll definitely be back. More...

I stayed in the Richmond Inn as part of a kayaking group for two nights and it has been years since I have experienced such hospitality. This place offers the true Irish welcome which has been lost in many formal establishments in abundance. This is a family run establishment located in a lovely tranquil quiet spot beside the canal. The rooms were warm and clean and the food was very good and wholesome. The staff couldn't be more helpful and any requests were dealt with promptly and without any hassle. This is a review of the pub & restaurant, as we did not stay in the inn (we were moored in the harbour). ||||We received a very warm welcome at The Richmond Inn. We had boated on the Camlin in years previous (my favourite part of the Shannon experience), but the Richmond Harbour renos weren't finished at the time. ||||When we finally got the chance to stop in for the first time in 2012, we were so impressed with the pub/restaurant - the food was absolutely top notch. Very traditional options available that were stellar (including a big bowl of the best steaming boiled potatoes in their jackets on Earth). However, they were also (rather surprisingly, to me) happy to accommodate my vegetarian diet. They produced the best risotto I've ever had, no exaggeration... couldn't believe it. Last thing I expected in such a small village in the countryside of Ireland.||||Another touch that will forever leave me with a warm feeling towards the owners was letting me bring my dog into the pub in the afternoon, where she sat happily at my feet next to the stool. Not many Canadian establishments would permit that. His exact words were "We've had people in here who weren't so well behaved!"||||We'll be going back to the harbour (really super mooring for riverboats, by the way) and the Richmond Inn as soon as possible. More...
As we were travelling by boat from Carrick on Shannon up the Royal Canal to Mullingar we visited this pub quite a few times and stayed in the Clondra Harbour on our boat. The food we had at nights was good country food like hearty soup and bread, steak and veges and chips and we enjoyed the other choices on the menu. Des and Frances and their two children offered great customer service but we particularly enjoyed Frances the night she was on by herself when her gorgeous Irish sense of humour came to the fore and she started telling us tales of her travels. Thanks for a good night Frances and you need to visit NZ again and come and see us! More...
I have been a guest in The Richmond Inn on two occasions and I feel the two negative reviews are very harsh and undeserved. ||True, the decor is dated, like many an Irish home. My room, en suite, was clean, comfortable and reasonable. The hosts are very welcoming and they serve a tasty breakfast. I can't vouch for the Bar or the evening meal as I have experienced neither.||Situated alongside a picturesque canal mooring, this is a peaceful spot , a short drive from Longford town. You can stroll along the canal path and view the working bogs of the area.||I enjoyed my stay and look forward to my next visit. More...
7 of us stayed and we were all really happy with our rooms,it was comfortable clean and cosy. The breakfast was really tasty and the owners were really nice, we will stay again as we have family near by and the price was 35 euro per person.
I booked in here for two nights when starting a new job. I can honestly say I've never felt as welcome before in any b&b or hotel I've stayed in previously. Everyone is extremely helpful, friendly and very thoughtful. For example, they put an extra heater on in my room before I arrived back on the second night as the weather had gotten very cold. They asked what time I wanted breakfast and dinner and served up huge portions of really decent food. As I was travelling alone I also really appreciated that they all personally welcomed me to Longford and stopped for a chat when I was having dinner the first night. The bed is really comfortable and the room & bathroom are very clean with everything you need. I would definitely stay again. More...
