What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
A photographer needs to wait for the moment to take the best image, the more you have to force the situation the more you are unlikely to get what you and the client are looking for.
Particularly when taking pictures of a person, 90% of creating a great image is being able to relax the subject.
Preparation is key, always arrive early and take every bit of equipment available in order to deal with the unexpected.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What is your target audience. Where is this image going to be seen. What is your budget. Have you seen and other images you like and therefore we could use as a theme. What is the expected timeframe of the work.
What do you love most about your job?
Every day is different as my areas of expertise cover both commercial photography and digital and traditional illustration. Working close to home has enabled me to take a large role in bringing up our young family an experience I will always treasure.
What inspired you to start your own business?
After a seven year traditional apprenticeship at a large commercial photographers I felt it was time to strike out on my own, equipped with all the knowledge necessary to approach any assignment with confidence. That was 1996 and I have been fully booked using my skills as a photographer and illustrator ever since.
Why should our clients choose you?
I have a wealth of experience of all sides of the industry gathered over more than 20 years. I have worked in design, illustration and photography am very easy to get on with and hope that I am able to put a client at ease particularly when taking their picture.
I am also an accomplished practitioner of all post production software and bring a painterly eye to all my photographs.
