Second time here, an annual “must” , not only the staff are welcoming and very helpful but the local countryside and the grounds are unspoilt. Did a painting course with the celebrated modern landscape artist David Tress. All well organised. Last year attended a exceptional chamber music concert. Their grate hall is a magnificent structure that makes the Rhosygilwen very versatile. Okay it's not plush, but it is special, verging on the magical. The food excellent, a little limited on the wine selection. And comfortable More...

We were invited to the Rhos….. by friends who live locally, and were very pleased they had asked us. Tickets were purchased for the “West Side Story” performance and we arrived to see a most convivial, pretty venue with easy parking, and a warm welcome. We had bought our picnic and noticed that lots of seating areas were being “bagged” so we found an older table and did the same for the second half . I like smaller intimate venues and although snug, I was amazed how this performance was put on in such a tight space. The main leads were incredible, their vocal range and singing quality was that of a West End show. For the price of the tickets this was excellent value and you didn’t have to pay over £100 to get to the West End and have taxis and tubes and trains to contend with. My husband and I both really enjoyed it, even though he confesses to not like shows much! We enjoyed our picnic outside and the weather was kind. The second half was just as good as the first and we were soon swept away in the emotional rollercoaster that is West Side Story. Even my husband spilt a tear at the ending…A cracking show and a lovely evening, hope we will be able to come another time… its worth the 6 hour road journey from Bedfordshire! More...

We recently made our second visit to Rhosygilwen and it was every bit as enjoyable as our first trip. On this occasion we went to see a guitar recital. We did have a little initial difficulty in finding anyone there to book us in but once this was sorted we settled into a comfortable, charmingly decorated room with all the necessary facilities for a short stay. Our evening meal was delicious and Glen and Brenda were most gracious hosts. The music was out of this world and the chance to chat to guitarist Craig Ogden after the concert made it even more special. We had a plentiful, delicious breakfast the next morning before heading home. The whole atmosphere was one of relaxation and welcome and we look forward to a third visit. More...

Beautiful property and grounds. Well designed room and en-suite. Excellent breakfast (we had full English and poached egg and salmon) and friendly staff. Just a comment, it didn't spoil our stay but it would be remiss of me not to mention the nagging bleeping noise at breakfast that staff seemed to ignore.||Also the room was a bit hot and we could not find a way to open the velux :-( More...

Stayed for two nights in a double room. The room was spacious and clean and able to accommodate wheelchair users. Tea and coffee making facilities were in the room with biscuits topped up daily. The bathroom was large and bright with shower gel and shampoo provided. With regards to the last review which refers to the velux window we did have a hook and stick to open our velux with no issue at all. Staff are very approachable and friendly so should you need anything you really should ask so I’m unsure why the previous reviewer didn’t simply ask. Breakfast was plentiful and good quality. Anything asked for was accommodated. I note the previous reviewer mentioned a bleeping sound which was so dull and hardly noticeable. It is worth noting this is only heard in the breakfast room. It really was not an issue and extremely petty to mention. I did hear the guest complaint about the sound and the staff reassure it was nothing to worry about and apologise that it was being looked at. The grounds are stunning and it is well worth exploring them before you leave. Saw too many beautiful birds to mention. There is an honesty fridge in the breakfast room with drinks for guests to help themselves and leave payment. WiFi is not the strongest but you will be able to connect free of charge. A nice touch as the location is secluded and a couple of miles from local shops. I would highly recommend staying here from lovely rooms and excellent cleanliness to friendly staff, delicious breakfast and stunning location. Book direct for better rates and a choice of room where staff will help you choose. More...

This a is a very special place, set in the most beautiful countryside with expansive views. They host lots of musical events, and we saw a wonderful production of My Fair Lady, and the actors who played Eliza and Freddie were outstanding, with voices that brought tears of joy. Our room was enormous, and so luxurious, and all the meals were exceptionally good. It was a real treat, and well worth our very long journey from Cornwall. When our yoga group arrived at Rhosygilwen after a challenging trip from London by rail and taxi we were captivated by the beauty of this Victorian mansion and its sweeping grounds. We spent four days in this Pembrokeshire retreat doing yoga in the morning in a modern light-filled events building and spending our afternoons on guided walks through the trails of the surrounding farms and forests. We had most of our meals on the property and were delighted by the ingenuity of the menu and its reliance on the bounty of the household garden. The chef pointed out his childhood home, which was just over the hill, and he shows his commitment to his roots by preparing locally-sourced food in creative and delicious ways. Our group took over the entire house as well as the courtyard rooms and, although the spaces varied greatly as to size and grandeur, we all felt well accommodated. The dining room and its over-sized table seated us all, and the grand drawing rooms at the mansion’s entrance were perfectly suited to our end-of-day gatherings. The name Rhosygilwen means “Moor of the Fair Nook” and a romantic air permeates the property. The owners began to restore the fire-damaged mansion in 1994 and they have paid careful attention to retaining the charm of the building while updating it to modern standards. To fall deeper under the spell of the property, I read the novel “Landsker” written by Brenda Squires, one of the owners. Squires sets her story in a Rhosygilwen-style setting and has us imagine a young woman in the 1920’s who has to pry herself away from the confines of this jewel box to liberate herself from the constraints of the day. We, however, can both be liberated and enjoy the delights of this very special place. More...

To start with, our taxi driver got lost between Carmarthen station and the venue! We were there to attend a family wedding and were enchanted by its magical qualities: peace, birdsong, sunshine, scenery that was stunning and amazing helpful staff. We stayed in a small cottage away from the mansion house - just a few steps - that was beautifully fitted out with golden oak furniture, a comfortable bed and a large tiled wet room with rain forest shower. The wedding venue was in the Orangery that had been well adorned with fabulous flower decorations. Lots of ideal photo opportunities too! A good breakfast was on offer on both the mornings we stayed, it was well cooked with plenty to choose from. In a small room next to the cottages was a small [honesty] bar with well stocked fridge. The grounds are large with a tennis court and croquet lawn available. We could not have asked for more. We had not realised that no food is served in the evenings as it's a B & B but we sent out for pizzas that took some time in arriving, such is the seclusion of this venue. But I will remember this lovely place for a long time to come. More...
