What makes a great website?
A number of components are required for a great website. It needs to be well structured, easy to navigate, beautifully designed and secure. I would say that the most important element, however, is high-quality content. The Web Design industry is highly competitive, and because of this, many designers get caught up in the metadata and analytics of a website (these are still important, of course) and lose sight of the primary function, which is to provide some information/service/product to the end user. In order to achieve a great website, all you need is a clear and concise plan to ensure that all of the above is catered for.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
This is highly dependent on the nature of the website that the client is looking for, I will discuss their requirements accordingly. Some clients have very specific ideas about how they want their website to look or function, whilst others hand us the reigns and ask us to get creative. We are happy either way and will always rise to the challenge.
What do you love most about your job?
I love creating good quality content to benefit the world, even in a small way. The Internet is rife with poor content, misinformation, viruses, hackers, and just plain spam. Therefore, I aim to protect myself and my clients from this as much as possible by ensuring that you have a high-quality, responsive and secure website that is well maintained and updated.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have worked in the Web Design industry for many years now and I have done some great work with some great companies. I was inspired to start my own business when I saw a much-needed gap in the market - high-quality bespoke web design and ongoing maintenance, that is both effective and affordable to smaller businesses and even sole traders. Too often are people with no design background forced to create their own website using basic tools, or even forego having a website altogether and just stick with social media, simply because there are very few reasonably priced options for people without a huge amount of technical knowledge. Hence Refreshing Media!
