Katharine Rhudy and Reed & Acanthus helped us with a long overdue update to our summer home. We wanted something low maintenance, child and pet friendly that reflected our casual beach style. Her recommendations were spot on from removing old carpet and installing hardwood floors to using much of our existing furniture and reupholstering, instead of replacing, sofas and chairs. Katharine Rudy of Reed & Acanthus is the consummate professional. She listened to my thoughts, and sought to create an environment reflecting my tastes rather than an easily recognizable signature decorator style. She was relentless in finding or helping me find the perfect fabrics. Her eye for color and texture is uncanny. She worked with my existing pieces and brought in a fabulous updated look I am so proud of. Her tasks included paint and fabric choices, as well as furniture and art placement. She excelled in all, while keeping a constant eye on cost. Katharine decorated our Vero Beach Home and we could not have been more pleased! She has a great eye for both quality and value and was able to take our ideas and translate them into a much better reality! She co-ordinated everything--perfect paint colors, floor coverings, furniture, fabrics, and many fabulous accessories. As a photographer, I have the privilege of working with a lot of different designers and seeing how they translate space and objects into an overall design. Katharine of Reed & Acanthus has a deep talent for curating special treasures from all periods of time and styles into a cohesive design that feels fresh and modern while still honoring classic traditions to create spaces that will stand the test of time.

For example, when documenting a home in which the homeowner did not want to change old wallpaper or carpet, I was very impressed with how Katharine worked with that challenge on a design level with furnishings and accessories to make the space feel fresh and new even though some large room elements needed to stay the same.

While preparing each space for photographing, it was also obvious that a lot of attention to detail, texture, and quality was given to all of the furnishings and fabrics in each room. Katharine helped us make updates to several rooms in our New Canaan home. She suggested changes like wall color, lighting and floor coverings and was able to make our home look fresh and new by reupholstering and adding quality pieces and art to our existing pieces.
