We've known Hope since her days at Ciao Baby, but the Mother's Day Brunch yesterday was an incredible slap to my dormant taste buds! The Fried Cauliflower appetizer was a wonderful portent to what was coming up -- a magnificent blend of tastes, spices and textures. Oh my goodness! So delicious! It was my turn to host my luncheon book club this week. As a full time employee, I knew I couldn’t pull off cooking for my luncheon in addition to the time to attend. I called Hope and described my event and my friends’ taste, she offered delicious options with subtle nudges to regular favorites, and everything went off without a hitch. How wonderful. What a beautiful culinary experience. The Red Thistle aka Hope Egan just prepared a lovely Father’s Day Brunch for us and a few other lucky souls.
Her skills are incredible. Each meal is so carefully prepared and you can watch her work from the open dining room. It’s small. It’s personal. It is the most European feel in Tulsa. She takes her time and care with each dish and uses the finest fresh foods to create her tasty dishes. Oh, speaking of dishes, her dinnerware is superb and made by her also gorgeous daughter who has a ceramic degree from OU. Today both her daughters were helping in the kitchen and with our service. We were checked on several times to make sure everything met our expectations and so they did. BTW. Her biscuits may be the only ones in town as good as mine. And, her meals could hold their own in Vienna as well. Don’t expect her to be open every day. You have to friend the Red Thistle and make reservations to know when she is serving or hire her to cater for you.
She is one hard working woman and you can tell she loves to cook. I love her to pieces and I have to say that’s the best meal we have had since Vienna.
