The restaurant is divided into a bar area with high top tables and a more formal dining room.  The view from the bar area is lovely as you can see the bridge.  The house manager is a delight.  He made sure we were happy with everything we ordered.  I loved the crab appetizer and was so pleased that another appetizer of summer squash was available because often veggies are hard to come by at restaurants. Their chicken with peaches was a fine portion and quite tasty.  The blue fish was also made well.  I loved the poached egg once I dipped it with their sourdough bread.  This place is a keeper. What a GEM!  Great happy hour with outstanding little known wines!  Then the added special in addition to the decor of clean and contemporary but inviting, is their menu!  Wow oh wow!  Had smoked blue fish that was out of this world! A touch of smoke and MeyerLemon. Not at all fishy!  The flatbread is made on premises and is better than anything I've tasted In Europe! Kind and informed staff!  We made reservations for the Friday after Thanksgiving if that tells you something! More...

I am surprised that this place isn't more busy! Having tried most of Portsmouth's offerings, Raleigh wine bar stands out. It has an original and inventive menu that is not seen around town . We ordered the smoked fish dip, jumbo stuffed dates, rock crab toast, farm tomatoes, tuna tartare and the lobster with a couple cocktails and a bottle wine. Each dish was unique with high quality ingredients. Our favorite dishes were the rock crab and the lobster served with avocado squash. Portions were appropriately sized for the price point. The service is great, something that restaurants in Portsmouth lack. The price point is not too bad given the quality. Next time you head to the Prescott Park area, skip Cure, Domo, Mambo, and Armando's and give this place a try. We will be back! More...

I met a friend here at 5:45pm, just prior to an event at Prescott Park, so we could catch a bite to eat pre-show.  We were seated at a lovely high-top table and while there were really only other guests at the bar at the tie, it felt comfortable.  We made it in time to choose from their happy hour menu, which ends at 6pm, and were thankful to see the items were on their standard menu but they had reduced pricing for the specials.  We asked for recommendations and in large part due to those, we ordered a caramelized onion dip with bread, rock crab toast and a roasted vegetarian special.  We loved all three. I also had a glass of light white wine and my friend gad rose; again, both were very tasty. I really enjoyed how our waiter was ver knowledgeable and helpful without being overbearing; it's a balance that is very welcome in a host/server.All in all, our first experience at the restaurant was lovely - and the only thing that was a distraction (some hands guests at the bar) is something the staff could not control. I would definitely go back. More...

We came after having dinner nearby on Friday of Mother's Day weekend (so we didn't have a chance to try any food here). Great wine selection but also a good number of cocktails and some beer options, which my husband was thankful for. The staff was great and friendly and I really liked the style inside. Although I don't live in town anymore, I come home for the holidays to visit, and Raleigh is a great spot for interesting, unique food and awesome service. I went on a recent trip home twice! Once for dinner, where we got the seared fois gras (amazing) and the truffle risotto with rush creek reserve cheese. I can honestly say there are not as many spots in Portsmouth with creative and as well executed dishes. If you are into food, COME HERE! I went for brunch the next day and they were squeezing fresh oranges for our mimosas :) I also got the braised lamb with sunny side egg and a light gravy which was something I've never had for breakfast before but would like to eat it everyday moving forward. The menu is different that most of what Portsmouth offers, which is great, if you're like me and have lived here a while and have tried most of the restaurants in town. The wine list is superb with a lot of natural wines. Try the Austrian wine flight. So good. This place usually has tables open but a reservation is always good if you want to make sure you have a table, especially on the weekends. We are locals and have eaten at all the food establishments in town. Portsmouth has many restaurants, many are good, none are great. Raleigh is as close to "great" as you will come in Portsmouth. The menu changes with regularity and everything is delicious. The food is expertly prepared, and service is professional and friendly. The waitstaff is not made up of college kids and this makes a difference. The restaurant itself has a modern urban look to it and it is situated in a picturesque part of town. You can sit at the counter and look at the bridge while sipping one of their great wines. We tend to share a few small plates and enjoy the clean lines of the decor and attention to dining details which all contribute to this excellent experience. Our latest visit included a new favorite of mine- the Napa cabbage grilled wedge and a Rose flight tasting. With a surprisingly well curated tap list, all will find a libation to their liking. Most nights we are not in need of a reservation, which makes it the perfect place to try out, your next stroll about town.. Finally got around to going here for dinner. Went with another couple--ordered the lobster pastry; about 3 rounds of bread, halibut entree, crab with pasta, asparagus dish, and green salad. All were very good, well timed, and reasonable for the size, quality, and ambiance of the place. Dessert was a nice, light semifreddo (think frozen whipped cream) with a simple chocolate cake and fresh strawberries, as well as a rhubarb tart--made to order, courtesy of the chef. We sat outside, which is nice, though inside is also attractive. Our server was excellent--attentive, knowledgeable about the wine (they have a well-curated, if small, list), and friendly. After dinner, we were able to buy a couple bottles of the wine we enjoyed with dinner, as well as a La Boite spice mix (VERY hard to find outside of NYC), and some other delectables. Like some of the other reviewers, we are local and will likely going back soon -- also new is they're open for lunch some. More...

Five stars on all counts.  We had to make changes to our reservation twice, and rather than be outwardly annoyed, they were nice as could be about it.  We were there during a shift change and so got to experience two different servers, and both were excellent - friendly, fast, and the perfect amount of attentive.  And then there was the food - entrees are small portions of genius combinations, the perfect amount of food if you share an app beforehand.  Some standouts were the cheese board with marmalade and the white anchovy tampenade and toast.  It was a really excellent experience - we'll definitely be back! This place is really cool. There is a room with tables and benches that is attached to another room with a small market. The market has a small, but quality, selection of wines, some beers, and Italian grocery items. The bar area is tastefully decorated, modern, and clean. We got a wine called Frick. It was a red, medium bodied, super delicious. A little on the pricier side but really great wine. We also shared the cheese/charcuterie plate. This came with mostarda and an apple spread, three types of cheeses, a pate of sorts, and a heap of prosciutto. There were a few pieces of crusty bread that came with it. My only complaint is that the bread to spreads ratio was a little off. I could have used more bread because that mostarda was amaaazing. Our waiter was awesome - super friendly and had great recommendations. No doubt I'll be back. More...
