I thought I'd eaten stroganoff before. I was mistaken! Their stroganoff was by far the best I've ever eaten. I was ready to curl up in the bowl. The smoked fish platter was also excellent. Can't wait to go back and try all the things we missed. Wish I'd had room for dessert. More...
It was my first time trying Russian food and wasn't disappointed, the food was great and the place is nice, clean and cozy.

Amazing!!!!! We ordered the Russian feast and it was exactly that - a feast!! Every dish was something that you didn't know you were already craving. The food deserves to be Michelin rated with the combinations of textures, spices and flavors making traditional dishes but with so much creativity and flavor. Aside from that, the staff was very efficient and courteous we had a five star experience as far as service too. We will be back and recommend to anyone coming to San Diego. Very happy customers! Thank you for everything. More...

Couldn't ask for anything better. The service was great. The food was great. And the setting was great. This is a great place to eat when downtown and I can wait to come here for birthdays!
This was everything I expected! I was so excited to eat some Russian food in my newly adopted city of San Diego. It’s soooo cute inside with this very whimsical-dachaesque like atmosphere. Pavel was our server and he recommended some delicious appetizers and entrees. I can’t wait to go back! More...
Delicious food, very authentic. Great atmosphere. Great service. I will definitely come back again and again.
What a strange and wonderful place - fancy and strange and excellent food, good service and great menu. Diverse options, well prepared, great drink menu. Would go back in a heartbeat.... soon as my next paycheck comes in. More...
We were there once. I really liked
My group of seven skeptical business colleagues (plus me) rolled into Pushkin after a power outage cast us out of Searsucker around the corner. It was getting late; everyone was hungry. The host convinced us to go with the Russian Feast, a multiple-course smorgasbord that seems too good to be true at $60 per head. It exceeded all expectations: infused vodka to start, the only delicious borscht I've ever had, pierogis, salads, Cornish game hen, lamb, desserts, not to mention excellent European beers on draft. My friends were blown away and were convinced that I'd planned our night to go this way all along. I credit our host at Pushkin, who created a lively atmosphere for us to let loose a bit and just enjoy ourselves. I cannot more strongly recommend this experience for a party of 5, 6, 7 or more. Get. The. Borscht. That's all you need to know. The duck, eh, it's ok.The little chicken filled noodles? Pretty great.
For Russian food in San Diego, look no further. The Chicken Tabaka was so delicious and the pickle platter was amazing too.
While in town, I wanted to try something a little off the beaten path. We found this place through yelp and overall liked it a lot. We tried the potato Bellini which was so good! We next ordered the beef dumplings and asked for it to be fried. Honestly we meant pan-fried and pointed to the menus sit says you can order it that way. The server interpreted that we wanted it deep fried. So the dumplings were incredibly dry and tasteless. It tasted like chicken and not beef but the server swore it was beef. It was the lightest colored beef I have ever seen. We couldn't eat it and asked for the Pierogi boiled and they were amazing. Also got the honey cake which was a little on the sweet side for me and was better without the strawberry sauce on the plate. But had really good flavor, almost graham cracker like flavor, and liked trying the cake. It is a 7 layer cake. Overall it was a good experience but I thought the service could have been better. Booked a reservation here for dinner on the weekend and even though it was pretty full, it didn't feel too busy because the tables are spread out. It has a cool environment that does give a throwback to the Russian style. They also have a live singer who sings some Russian but also some English songs, so this was pretty cool and adds on to the experience! It's definitely a nice restaurant to visit for a date!Time for the food! We ordered some East European classics! There were so many good options, everything looked delicious on the menu! We ended up going with the pierogi and the pelmeni - which are similar dish they're like dumplings except pierogis have potato and the pelmenis has chicken. But of course there is more, the pierogis also come with mushroom, cabbage and cherry; the pelmenis have soup inside - and they both come in a light, creamy broth. For the pelmenis I also got traditional beef stroganoff on top and boy did that add a kick to it! The beef was super tender, and both dishes were quite tender, savory and well balanced! For dessert, we had the honey cake which is a classic East-European dessert. The layers blended perfectly together and it wasn't too sweet, it was also soft and fluffy. And the strawberry sauce that they put around the side definitely improves the dish too!I don't eat East European food a lot, so my experience is comparing to other cuisines, and it was indeed a delicious experience. LOVED everything about our dining experience. The food was great, service was awesome!!

Pushkin is a fine place for dinner. Many different items to try on the menu. Grilled elk steak was delicious. Nice wine and drink selections.
If you like flavor and something unique, you need to try to this restaurant! The atmosphere and service were impeccable. I don't give a 5 star rating often...I wish there were more stars to give to this gem of a place.I started with the "flight of 5", a choice of their diffused vodkas. They were AMAZING. I would love to try them all but since I would like to be able to walk, I'm sticking with just 5 today. The appetizer I chose was the picked vegetables. A huge pile of goodness...tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, cabbage and onions. My main course was the traditional Russian dumpling with chicken. I had the beef stroganoff added to the top. I can't even explain the flavor. It is just the right balance and not salty which is where I think a lot of places go wrong. It is traditional Russian food so come prepared to eat outside of the box and you won't be disappointed. More...
Good Russian food in San Diego! Really loved the bread and butter, olivie salad, manti, and rack of lamb. Compote was also delicious! Golubsti and honey cake were so-so and I wouldn't order them again. Service was on the slower side but very pleasant. More...
The food was delicious & looked amazing, the service was fantastic, and the decorations were charming. The borscht was perfection in a bowl and the blini were a wonderful balance of soft & crispy. The place was quiet, even at dinner, and the atmosphere was very relaxed. They do make everything after you order, so be patient - it’s worth the wait. More...
I have no idea how it's not a 6 star restaurant ))) The atmosphere is amazing, great verity of tasty dishes, owners are alway there to make sure that everything runs perfect. Super tasty food. If you get the groupon, the price is perfect. 10/10
Excellent place. Waitress was very helpful and kind. Food here is absolutely amazing. Price is definitely worth the food and experience. The place is very unique And is pleasing to the eye. There is also couches to sit and eat at. my group said they were comfy enough to sleep on the only reason I give it 4 stars is because there was a trash on the street right by the entrance which had a stench so horrible I though something had died and made me lose some of my appetite. Even so if your looking to come here definitely go! More...
Knowledgeable staff and delicious food, will patronize again.
Love love love this restaurant! I was visiting San Diego for a little birthday getaway and found this restaurant. I grew up with a lot of these dishes so I thought it would be great to celebrate and enjoy some wonderful food like my grandmother used to make. This was way better than what my grandmother used to make!! (Sorry grandma) Everything was amazing! Our server was the best, the owner stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying everything, they all were so nice and welcoming. If you're in the area definitely check this place out and make sure you save room for the Honey cake. Best. Cake. Ever! More...
Nice ambiance. Tasty food. Good Russian like experience. Bit pricey but hey it's the gaslamp.
We had excellent service. Our waiter explained when we had questions. We had winter rabbit and stroganoff which were both delicious. We tried their savory blinis and for dessert we had their honey cake which was fabulous. Nice atmosphere and great music for dining. More...
This was an absolutely wonderful experience. The food was phenomenal and the service was impeccable. We were made to feel welcome and taken care of by several members of the staff, including the manager. Great food- recommend it for dinner.

The food was excellent. We were hesitant when we arrived as the locale is low key. Would recommend highly.
It's not common for me to find a place with Russian cuisine. Finding this restaurant was like finding a gem in the city. The atmosphere is calm and quaint. It was nice to see the inspiration for the restaurant is from a famous Russian writer (poet). They have a menu that stays true to the dishes that are common and well known in Russia.I would highly recommend the borscht soup. It's so rich in flavor and very hearty and healthy. The color of the borscht is gorgeous as well. The roses color comes from the beets algo course. It has such a rich flavor you won't forget it. The savory blini is also delicious and filling. I'm usually in favor of a sweet blini (which can also be found here) but I can't deny the beef blini was a perfect pair to the borscht. The ambience was perfectly relaxing. It has the vibe for a romantic dinner for 2 or even to work alone in your iPad or to write and work if needed. Staff is very kind and food came to my table fairly quick. The lighting just has a way to calm you and you can't help but adore the twinkling lights the greenery walls. Somewhat of a refined Alice in wonderland feel by the window near the front entrance.Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. If you've never tried Russian cuisine, I would highly recommend this place as a start. You won't regret it. More...

My boyfriend and I dined here this evening. I cannot emphasize enough how much we enjoyed it! The food was beyond delicious! Best we've had in as long as I can remember and we dine out often. The owner Ike was extremely welcoming as was his wife and our waiter Pasha was amazing! He had a party of about 18 what seemed like pretty high maintenance customers yet still gave us fantastic service. I had the lamb shank that melted in my mouth. I ate the entire thing which I never do but it was too good to stop! My BF had the stroganoff which he loved and the chocolate cake that he says was divine. He told Ike upon leaving that he would drive down here from our home in LA just for the food and service which is the highest compliment. Bravo! More...
Lovely authentic Russian food, I will definitely be back!
Great place to eat at. Fun clean and the food is delicious.
Wow, I'm really impressed. The place wasn't busy but the service was good and the "advice" on the food was spot on. Everything we ate was excellent. Since they weren't busy, they custom made me an appetizer of tongue, salo, and veggies so I could try them all. I was very impressed with the salo. Our entrees were excellent too. More...
our first time ...Food was amazing !There was a party and the muzak was a bit too loud ( bothersome ) to carry a simple conversation. It could have been lowered just a hair. We did not complain. Service, this is for customers, be mindful of welcoming the Russian service perspective : it is a bit dry when compared US type level service. We were absolutely fine with it.We are definitely coming back, very soon... More...
The food is amazing. Service was GREAT!!! It was an awesome way to experience traditional Russian food and cocktails.
Amazing food Highly recommend the braised rabbit
An enchanting restaurant with beautiful food. The staff gave me a complimentary experimental strawberry and vodka cocktail which was delicious! I really loved the beef stroganoff and the two lamb dishes were spectacular. I was, although, a touch underwhelmed by the cabbage rolls as the sauce seemed undercooked (it tasted more like a raw sauce rather than a slow cooked tomato based sauce) but that could be a matter of preference on the part of the chef, so I can respect that. I was also broken hearted to find they no longer serve chicken Kiev. No matter. The honey cake and their tea selection were wonderful and the caviar service was divine. As the evening progressed, they also played Russian club music which I enjoyed very much. Lovely staff. Not intrusive at all and very efficient. We will be back. The surroundings transport you into a fairytale. Poetically appointed topiary walls with twinkling lights accented with whimsical portraits and taxidermized busts of woodland creatures add to the magic of the space. The poet after who the restaurant is named would very much approve. More...
Took 9 people for a business dinner and everyone had a fantastic time, as always. Pushkin never fails because there's really nothing to complain about - unless you just like to complain! The vibe is very classy and at the same time chill and casual. It's cosy but not noisy. Most importantly, the food and drinks are all outstanding and offer something for every taste! Everyone left laughing, smiling and full. Some details: Drinks. As with the food, there's a drink and flavor for everyone! My group enjoyed sampling the amazing home-infused vodka's. You just don't see these anywhere else so, even though I don't normally drink vodka, I always order some. It's always fun with a large group to order a big variety and pass them around for everyone to sample. Most of our crowd went for the Jalapeno, Horsradish-Honey or Dill. I can say from experience that the cocktails, beers and wines are also great. There's also a lot of amazing non-alcoholic options like fruit sodas, juice drinks and interesting drinks like Kvass (a fermented rye bread beverage). The variety is awesome and everything is quality!Food. Pushkin has a wide range of great options. A lot of things are shareable and great for groups. We enjoyed pickled vegetables and marinated herring appetizers - with the delicious rye bread that's always on the table as soon as you sit down. My end of the table then had the Summer Salad and a variety of Peirogi, Pelmeni and Khinkali that we passed around. Wow, so filling and so good! A couple of people ordered individual entree's (which also got sampled!) so I know the swan lake fish and the duck were also amazing. In fact, that was the best duck I've ever tasted anywhere! And don't leave without coffee/tea and desert. We shared some sweet blini which are a perfect ending - not too sweet or filling after all that food! Staff. Another great thing about Pushkin is the staff. Ike, the owner, is passionate about everything and will always take time to talk about the menu and how things are made and make recommendations. That really adds to the experience and enjoyment! More...
Delicious, fun, Russians, who could ask for more? Elk steak, herring in a fur coat, infused vodkas, 20yr Armenian whiskey, sour cream cake. Will definately return.

Interesting food selection (very Russian!), but it's all very tasty. Food is exceptionally fresh, and the service outstanding. Good wine selection, and the cocktails taste good... But are bit kitchy. Best food ever) great service
Excellent service, incredible food, and live entertainment(at least on Friday nights). The borscht was fantastic, and well paired with the pelmeni and the rabbit.
Came upon this gem on our nightly walk through Gaslamp last night. Enough of your margaritas, tacos, burritos and seafood . .. want a good old shot and some Russian chow:-) Husband had uha and lamb shish kebab and I had okroshka and stuffed cabbage accompanied by a few vodka shots. I had lychee for the first time, was pretty good. Had tea and blini for dessert. Very interesting decor, jazz playing, very friendly service, all in all we had a great dinner!!! More...
Our meal was excellent. Of particular note was the availability of that great Armenia wine Karas. It's encouraging to find it in San Diego.
We picked this restaurant to go with the theme of a recent Russian novel we all read and wished to discuss. A few of us had grandparents who came from Russia and wanted to relive the dishes they once served to us. Food: Disappointed that many items on the menu were unavailable. -Outstanding dishes: Borscht; Rabbit; rack of Lamb; chocolate honey cake-Average: mixed pierogies; pelmeni topped with stroganoff sauce were fine but did not come close to our grandmothers' recipes. They may have been prepared from frozen where my grandmother would prepare and serve it fresh. -Disappointing food: Smoked fish platter consisted of only smoked salmon and was very bland.Russian bread seemed stale and you would think that it would be freshly baked daily. When asked what the assorted appetizer platter consisted of we were told just 2 salads so we did not order it . It would be nice if the large platter came with a little taster of items.Service: waiter was very pleasant and we appreciated not being rushed out. He answered questions when asked but we would have saved a lot of time if he would have told us upfront all the menu items they were not serving that evening. Atmosphere: Quaint and nice decor. Nice casual ambiance Parking is tricky in that area as meters are limited to 2 hours More...
If you want a memorable experience, come here! Came here in a group of four from San Francisco. It was engaging with live music and interesting decor that created an enjoyable ambiance. It's a place that we cannot stop talking about, a true Soviet experience. Now for the food: TOP NOTCH. The layering of the flavors had me drooling over the next plate. Highly recommend their house Cab. We got herring under a fur coat, that I will crave for days to come. Eggplant spread was also to die for. Honey cake 10/10. So glad this place exists. More...

Great food, even better atmosphere and staff.
Fantastic restaurant! Excellent food especially the lamb shank dish. Plenty of food so you won’t leave hungry. I know the next time I am back in San Diego that I will return to this restaurant.
Russian restaurants are pretty uncommon, so if there is one when I'm traveling I always like to try it out. Pushkin has a great vibe, and it's well decorated. They were a bit understaffed as only two people were taking care of a packed house. Needless to say it was slower than I would have liked, however the quality of the food and drinks were all there. I like their selection of house infused vodkas and went with the black currant. My husband and I ordered the cheese plate and beef stroganoff. We enjoyed both and had a great time. The staff were fun to interact with as well. More...
This is my favorite restaurant in San Diego. Bold statement so I'll explain....They have animal heads on the walls like old school hunting lodge style. They offer several flavor-infused cocktails, but many of these are natural ingredients infused into good vodka. You taste strong natural flavors and get lit. They have rare game meats that they do pretty good justice to. The stag (elk) is pretty good and the ostrich is phenomenal- tastes like one of the best steaks you've ever had. Totally red meat even bough it's a bird.So who else is doing shit like that in San Diego? No one? That's why it's my favorite place.I've been twice and service was great both times. Big fan. Keep it up! More...
Absolutely delicious!!!! Super service and delightful Atmosphere! I can’t wait to visit again!

This spot is worth trying. They serve large portions for fair rates. Constantly well organized and with great mood. Will visit here again.
Excellent food, service, and decor!
As a first-timer, the staff was very helpful and accommodating. All the food was delicious, and full of unique flavors. Will definitely be back!
Food was fantastic. It takes awhile to come out, but they warn you about that on the front end. Docking one star due to the karaoke singer, which we really could have done without. After 2.5 hours of piercingly loud Lady Gaga covers we were pretty desperate to get out of there. More...

Wonderful restaurant, large and open eating area with lots of tables. Staff was friendly, accommodating and polite. The pierogi was flavorful and the skin had a nice texture. The lamb shank and beef stroganoff were cooked well and paired well with the sides. The red and black caviar were fantastic, nice flavor that paired well with the blinis. The honey cake and sour cream cake were both delicious, a nice sweet to finish the meal off. They also have a nice selection of vodka infusions, the lychee vodka was nice. More...

This was my first time at a purely Russian Restaurant. I came here as a friend who has been to Russia told me this was the closest to what he had there. I must say I was very pleased overall. Started with the kvass and a compote juice. For starters we ordered the eggplant spread and for main course the Chicken Tabaka and White Rabbit. The honey cake was for dessert. Each and every dish was amazing, would definitely come here again. The servers were very attentive and nice too. I googled up some of the recipes for myself later. Overall, great initiation to Russian food. :-D More...

My wife and I ordered the Borscht, dumplings and rabbit leg. They are really really good.
I went to this restaurant based on other Google reviews. Usually, I'm skeptical about the reviews but, in this case, it was true. The rabbit entree that I had for dinner was excellent. The meat was moist and tender. It fell off the bone. Certainly not reheated via microwave. For dessert, again based on the prior reviews, I had the honeycake. It was fabulous. The service was slow but it was understandable as it was during Comic Con and the place was crowded. Eventually, I got my order and it was correct in spite of the busy atmosphere. There was no table available for me so I was seated at the bar where I both had my dinner and watched the bartender at work. I had a Czech dark lager for my drink. It was good as well. The host was very helpful and knowledgeable about Russian cuisine. You'll see him at the door wearing a fedora. I'm joining the rest of the reviewers and highly recommend it. Yes, I will go back if my schedule permits it and will drag along my friends to this place as well. More...

Different But Delish Atmosphere was Comfort . Staff A+
Love this restaurant! Especially happy because my favorite Russian restaurant in our neighborhood closed last year, and I've been missing those ole' Soviet flavors! We ordered the two fish entree offerings, and they were perfect. The Primador Czech beer was a surprise--even better than what I usually order (which was not available here so no need to mention). The decor was cozy, relaxed literary, and entertainment on a Tuesday night was outstanding--a gorgeous vocalist. But perhaps my favorite thing about the ambiance was that there was NO TELEVISION on, not even over the bar! Man! How refreshing is that!?! That alone will bring us back. More...
Excellent food, super cute aesthetic. The restaurant was almost completely empty, but we were eating right when it opened. Their tea selection is fantastic, and will definitely keep me coming back. I took my Russian step-mother-in-law because she was a bit nostalgic. According to her, the food was pretty authentic, and they even brought her some things that weren't on the menu. I wouldn't know about the resemblance to actual Russian food, but everything was delicious. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that the service was a bit slow. More...

Officially my favorite Russian restaurant of all time! The service was impeccable and the vibe was just amazing. Walking up to the door we where greeted by a gentleman in a tuxedo jacket wearing a top hat, he guided us to our table, adorable right by the window in this little alcove with greenery and twinkle lights. The decor reminds me of my grandmothers home, an array of nicknacks that under no means would you normally pair in one room but somehow it all comes together in a comforting atmosphere. The old books that lines the alcoves and Russian painting hangin above them are my favorites. Black Rye bread and fresh whipped butter arrived with our waters. The bread was soft and just lovely, hubby adored it. The owner was so sweet and dropped by our table, he made some suggestions and guided us through the menu. Blini - Mix of three : chicken, beef and mushroom: so so comforting, I could live off these. Pickled Veggies: I would like them a little more vinegary but the crunch level was lovelyRed Square Salad : the goat cheese was salty and perfect combination with the arugula/beets Pierogi- Hubby fell in love with these Russian version of the dumplings. We ordered the potato-mushroom with cabbage and cherries...my favorite and very authentic. Chicken from the Grill: comes with veggies and rice, and I'm quoting hubby here "chicken was beyond amazingThis is the first Russian restaurant I've been to where the food wasn't oily or over salted. It's obvious the owners/cooks care about the food they serve and their image. This is a must try when in SD! Can't wait to go back More...
Food: We got the Pierogi: Potato Mushroom, Pelmeni Beef, and Flight 5 (Red Currant, Blueberry, Pineapple, Dill, Pomegranate) . I thought the food tasted pretty good. The wrapping wasn't too thick and the filling was good. The free bread was decent too. Price: Kind of expensive overall but worth the experience. Pierogi was $16. Pelmeni was 18 and the Flight was 25. Service: Service was good. The waiter was really patient with us and checked up on us from time to time.Ambiance: It looks like you're in a garden. The place looks cool.Would I come here again? Yea. More...
Excellent variety of traditional Russian with a bit of modern flair! Friendly staff and really great cocktail menu!
I loved this place, everything was divine.
Everything ate was delicious. I wish the Russian menu had more options though.
Food is great, nice atmosphere
Very good food! They just hosted a big party for us (Cisco ENB SW team) and did a great job. I will definitely come back. I recommend it for some good Russian food.
The dishes were very good, I would say they tend to be a comfort food, very hardy. They're desserts were very unique and delicious.
Authentic! The most charming little place with wonderful food and great service.
Definitely tasty Felt strong and also bought the wintertime rabbit, this being the very first time I tried bunny and also it was scrumptious For our appetiser we purchased the salad sampler and be warned the beet salad is addictive
Real, authentic Russian food. Is usually very crowded but well worth it.
My wife and I love this place! It was recommended to us by two Russian friends. The honeycake is amazing - we had them make it for our wedding cake!
Amazing food. Great atmosphere and service. Super nice people. Best part of my trip in San Diego. Highly recommend the Duck and the honeycake!
This is the most amazing and beautiful place to visit and see.and the items wow mind blowing .one thing for sure you will remember it.....
Rabbit, salmon soup, pierogies... All excellent. Wait staff was great. The presentation and flavor of the food was exceptional. The perogies in particular was as good as anything I've had in Poland. More...
Thank you Pushkin for excellent customer service and wonderful dining experience. If you accidentally leave your credit card at the restaurant, the employees will hold it for safekeeping until you come back to retrieve it. Not only the employees are respectful and trustworthy, but they also make helpful suggestions with food orders. Pelmeni was very delicious, and the grilled chicken thighs were flavorful without being too dry. Also, the food here isn't too salty or greasy. Will definitely come back to try other entrees. More...
I had lamb which was fine except fried potatoes over salted...others had beef stroganoff and duck and they loved it...The singer (blonde) was low key not interrupting our conversation and we all agreed she had an absolutely stunning voice...
This is one of my new favorite restaurants in San Diego! This is one of my new favorite restaurants in San Diego! I came with a group who wanted to taste it all so we had quite a spread of dumplings, soup, salads - complete with a nice bottle of Georgian wine and infused flight of vodkas! It was all excellent and definitely tasted homemade. We discovered some new fave dishes, like the Kharcho soup and the variety of dumplings. We'll be back - and hopefully soon! Very authentic Russian / Ukrainian / Georgian food and the atmosphere is also lovely. More...
An amazing meal, service and a cozy atmosphere. If you're looking for a unique experience, freshly cooked meal, excellent service, Pushkin should be your go-to spot. I highly recommend it.
We vacationed in the area from June 15-19, 2019. On the 16th, three of us came in for dinner and ordered the lamb shank. It was by far the best lamp shank I have ever had! Two of us shared it and we immediately knew we should have ordered two of them. The mix Blini was also thoroughly enjoyed (no leftovers for any of us). We shared a flight of the vodkas, which were just as good as they were on our last vacation. We finished the evening with a specialty drink made by Dmitry. Thank you as it was delicious. On the 18th, we came back in for another flight of vodkas and had a great time talking to Ike.We thank all of you and look forward to returning. More...
Hello my friends I try Russian food here for laugh. I have siberian stag with baltika 7. No shashlik available please add to menu then I like alot.
We made reservation for the same day dinning. Already by 5:45pm on Saturday the place was busy. The food was delicious but came out cooler than my scorching hot preference. Chocolate honey cake is delicious and highly recommended. A hidden gem for high quality Russian food. More...
Delicious food. Great service.
An amazing meal! Plan on spending time here as the menu items are all made fresh from scratch. The thing is ... it forces you to sit back and enjoy the company of your dinner party while you take time to savor every morsel! !Start with the Olivie, the follow up with the Borch, followed by Pelmeni and finish it all off with the Honey cake. Best authentic meal in the area! More...
Great food and interesting decor. Also, the cocktails are actually worth the $ !
The food was excellent and the service friendly, albeit a little slow. In any case, the blini appetizers were fantastic, and the beef stroganoff was the best I have ever had. Highly recommended.
Great food, great atmosphere, and friendly service! We eat here every time we visit downtown San Diego. :-)
We drive from North County to eat here. The best Russian food around. And the lamb is one of the best things on the menu! We keep returning!
Food was awesome. Ribeye stroganoff was a favorite just to go back for and Ike was great too. The noodles with the handle filled with delicious flavorful meat was great too
The food was wonderful and the server was great. Drinks were slow getting to the table but once the food came all of the guest were happy again.
First time dining at a Russian Restaurant. I was in the area for a conference and when I saw the positive reviews I figure I try something new. The food was amazing! I ordered the Winter Rabbit and it was a such a different and bold flavor but it was very good. It was cooked very well and the meat just fell right off the bone. I followed up with the Honey Cake for dessert which was perfect as I am not much of a sweets guy. The only complaint is that the staff have a hard time keeping up with a rush. Once it started to get packed it took about 20 minutes to pay for my meal after I had requested the check. The waiter was friendly and very helpful though so I'll chalk it up to a bad day. Will visit again! More...
A first rate dining experience in Gaslamp district. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Delicious from appetizers to desserts.
Excellent grilled eggplant, duck and Cornish hen. Blini deserts were tasty as well. Service wasvery attentive.
Authentic ruski cuisine. Also would recommended if you want to feel fancy eating fishy eggs
Nice people. Great food.

Had the salmon and shared a bunch of appies. Very good.
Good food, great service.
The veal chop was rare. Had them re-cook it and it was still pretty rare. Rest of the food was great.
Great atmosphere, amazing food. Service is very attentive. Good music. Reasonable pricing. One of Gaslamp districts Best and tastiest restaurants. Private parties, even weddings are possible. Will sure visit again and again. More...

very good food several Russian beers and a good wine selection
So I've never been to a Russian restaurant but I've had subpar versions of the dishes they have here in other random restaurants. I was very surprised. I'm used to believing these types of dishes are sort of meh. This place prepares them SO well, I'm upset that I've been missing out on good versions of these dishes. The chicken kiev had incredibly juicy chicken with a crust that was incredibly crisp and flavorful but not greasy at all. The sides were all great. The perogis were sauteed per-fect-LY! They were just kissed with brown and were slightly crispy, and again didn't feel heavy or greasy at all as these types of dishes tend to be. The sauce on top was also creamy but not heavy. I liked the honey cake but it was a bit too rich for me. I don't think that was a fault of the restaurant, rather a consequence of having a cake made from honey (as honey is hard to eat in large quantities). It was good but I think I'd eat it when I haven't had as much of the entrees to eat. There are places that are good and places that are REALLY good that blow other places out of the water. This place is the latter. The food is exquisite and the atmosphere is fun (I liked the stuffed animals everywhere, especially the one with the hat and the doorman in the period-wear). I will 100% be returning to eat here. More...
Went here on a first date with a beautiful Russian woman. Her recommendation and it did not disappoint. We actually went here at around 11pm in the middle of dancing the night away. I must say that I've had very little interest in trying Russian food but I was very wrong. This place was amazing and even something as rabbit and potatoes were absolutely gourmet. I was very impressed with the food, the service, and the atmosphere. Next time I am in San Diego, I shall definitely visit again. More...
Very nice place Live music Delicious
Food is delicious and the restaurant is nice but calling the number provided for a take out does not go to the restaurant so take caution when trying to place an order.
Don't go here if you're a vegetarian, they do have some veggie items on their menu but the day I visited they didn't seem to have anything. That said, the ambience is pretty good. My meat eating friends loved their food. Also, we went on St. Patty's day when they had an event going on outside but the restaurant was very accommodative and still let us in without charging the event fee. More...

this is one of our favorite restaurants in downtown San Diego. great live music, a variety of Russian cuisine and a great atmosphere. highly recommended!
Ike was awesome and the stroganoff rib eye and the beef dumplings were awesome as well
We ended up here without any reservations. Nice place. Good food. Only negative for us was that there was only one server handling the floor. He was the host, server and the bartender. Great selection of exotic meats/foods. Very nice desserts. More...
I'm writing this review almost after 3 months from visiting, misty because I cannot wait to visit this place again. I flew down to San Diego to see a concert & I decided to visit this place for dinner. The night I went they had live music playing for dinner. I initially ordered the Siberian Stag however, my order was mixing with another guest and I was instead given the Lamb Shank. The lamb shank itself was delicious, perfectly seasoned & cooked to where the meat was tender & flavorful. I also order the tarragon soda and was superseded my expectations. After dinner I order a Vanilla Latte to finish off the night. While I'm not a coffee guru I would have to say the coffee was probably one of the best I've ever had. It's safe to say this place has become one of my favorite restaurants and is definitely one worth visiting if in San Diego. More...
The food, drink and atmosphere was amazing ! We loved everything about this place.
Interesting decor. All the dishes we ordered -rabbit, steak and the signature dessert. Only negative is that a few dishes that were popular on Yelp were discontinued, which was a bit disappointing.
We only came for dessert and drinks, so I'm not sure how the food is. We did the flight of infused vodkas, and most of them were really good! We also got the honey cake (I think that's what it was called lol) and it was soooo good! We could barely finish it between the 3 of us. Super fun and unique atmosphere. I have already recommended it as a place to visit in SD, especially if you like vodka. More...
Service was very nice and friendly. Food was amazing and I loved khinkaly which we ordered with my girlfriend. I was not sure about drinks and I asked my waiter to suggest something sweet. He recommended Pushkin drink from the menu. I agreed to try and once I got that drink it was supper strong. I didn't drink it at all and I feel bad to sand it back. I am used to people ask me how is food or drinks when I go to good restaurants. This time it didn't happen even clearly person who was serving us seen what I was not touching the drink. Well just waist of $12. Besides that, everything was nice. I would recommend to take taxi here since parking is a little bet complicated in the area. More...

The live music is a bit too loud. We had to talk really loud to hear each other but other than that nice atmosphere, cute restaurant and delicious food.

Excellent interesting menu and very friendly good service
Excellent soup. But they were out of several items on the menu.
Cool place. Music was loud. No complaints about the food though.
So many vodka carafes Try the horseradish one!
Great restaurant with great food.
Great place. Fantastic service, and very good food!
My husband and I had a delightful experience tonight at Pushkin. The waiters were very courteous, kind, and efficient. The food and drinks were delish. Particularly loved the pelmeni with beef stroganoff and a sochi drink. Beautiful, unique and elegant decor. Hubby loved the honey cake. I was too full to indulge. An added bonus and a wonderful surprised was a young lady who appeared midway through our dinner to sing with an angelic voice. We had to order more drinks so we could linger and listen. Thank you, Pushkin staff, for a very lovely and memorable evening!Ike (owner) I am so sorry I didn't get to meet you tonight. I know I would have liked you! I just read your response to La N. Spot on and made me and the hubby LOL. That happens to be the first song your lovely singer did tonight (original lyrics). More...
This would be the first time I had Russian food (decided to explore new flavors) and I was not disappointed. Brownie Points: - The waiter was extremely helpful in suggestions- Portion for food were just right - Ambience was intimate What we recommend:-Honey Cake (I like my dessert first) -Beef Straganoff -Moscow Duck Happy Eating!! Xoxo
Lovely staff and food as usual
This place was such a different experience than what I am used to, which made it so much fun. My boyfriend and I had to try the vodka flights and trust me they do not disappoint. I recommend if you are looking for something new and different to do down in San Diego! More...
I couldn't get enough of their pickled veggies appetizer... so good! The rest of the meal was yummy, but IMO it was a little overpriced for the portion served. Regardless, it was an enjoyable meal overall. Would be happy to eat here again. P.S. - I tried one of their "infused" vodkas... very mellow in flavor, mostly tasted the vodka. More...
The food was very good and so was the waiter. The only thing that bothered me is my husband & I were the only people eating in tables at the restaurant .
Food was delicious! Service great!
Located downtown. Inside decor is adorable. All very russian themed. The food is VERY authentic! These are the exact dishes I grew up eating so I was being very critical of the food. The food is perfection. Not a thing that I did not enjoy.Started with the salad appetizer. Comes with three different salads. One is like a cabbage salad. Others are best salad and chicken salad. You also get complimentary bread and creamy dill spread. Cannot stop thinking about that spread! So good!Meat pelimeni are amazing. We normally eat them with vinegar at home so I ordered some on the side to add. So much flavor! The mushroom sauce is unbelieveable . Pelimeni are a staple for the russian culture.Holobts are stuffed cabbage. You get about 3 in an order. Filling has so much flavor. Exactly like we eat at home! Perogi with potato are another must order! Another dumpling type food. You honestly wish the plate doesnt end while eating it. You cant even prepare yourself for the end.Great service! The bartender Dima makes great drinks! I couldnt decide what to drink so he surprised me and it was exactly what I didnt know I wanted.Friday night they have Karaoke upstairs. More...
Y'all!!!! Ran into this place on a random excursion with my man, now I am a regular--please read because I'm about to tell you why you'll want to be a regular here too! First, they are a Russian style restaurant that is AUTHENTIC. Being from the east coast, we have a lot of Russians and their cuisine if you haven't had it is always a mouth full of flavor and a heart warmed with a home cooked taste. Not only is the head cook BOMB (Collin Douglass is his name, please thank him if you love your meal as much as we did) but the drinks are tasty. Infused vodka ranging from sweet to tangy to our of the ordinary. It is an all around good time as the staff is kind and everyone gives off a family vibe! If you aren't familiar with Russian food, this is the place you want to go to first because they show you what Russian cuisine and hospitality is all about! The hospitality deserves its own paragraph. The owner, Ike, personable Russian man who eagerly describes to you the meaning of the name Pushkin (please ask bc you're in for a treat). Additionally, he shares drinks with us all the while teaching us a game from his homeland called Batgamin. Met his beautiful wife Yulia who compliments Ike as a partner in business and life. My first experience is what had me wanting to go back but the consistency in the over the top hospitality from everyone, the tasty food and the extraordinary drinks is what has me return so frequently. I really hope to see y'all there because everyone deserves quality like this on a night out. Did I also mention that they are affordable!? Because the prices for the experience just don't compare to anywhere else in the Gaslamp! In closing, stop by!!! They have a stylish young gentleman in a top hat named Nicholas who will greet you with a smile and educate you on funk outside. If I could give them 10 stars I would because that is where their service level truly is! More...

Really good martini. Stroganoff was very tasty. Grilled chicken was very large portion and seasoned well. Really colorful decor which makes you feel like you have been transported to Russia.
Great food, un-rushed dining, laid-back music and cozy seating. This is a great find!
Found this little place late at night and boy- the food was phenomenal!! Recommend the Swan Lake dish. The lime wedge garnish will further elevate the dish if you squeeze just a little juice onto the fish. WOW!!Service was great. Decor a little quirky. Overall a truly great experience. More...
Already recommended to a few people. Food and service were excellent but it was the atmosphere that made it outstanding. It’s like ... being an American in Russia. Other guests were almost all Russian, decor is spectacular and music is very Russian. We had the herring appetizer then shared the beef stroganoff, rabbit, and stuffed cabbage. Each one different, perfect portion size served by very attentive staff. The honey cake with brewed tea finished a perfect meal. Will definitely be back! More...

Liked the atmosphere, not the pelmeni.
About the pelmeni: I was there too ,I liked pelmeni:)but It was after the best duck I ever ate.Great atmosphere, great music!
Wow!!!! Amazing food. Outstanding service.
Good atmosphere, good food.
This place was fantastic!!! They suggested food and drinks for my daughter and I. We loved it all! Thank you very much. From Portland but next time we come to San Deiego we will be back.
Delicious food and amazing service! We had the Siberian Stagg (elk steak), Russian salad appetizer, and Roasted Moscow Duck! We will definitely be back
Friendliest service I’ve had in a long time!
Great service in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Love the couches - how fun for a restaurant to envelope a living room theme for dining - really cool! Food is terrific! Thank you!
Order the chicken Kiev! Probably the tastiest thing I had during my visit to San Diego. This place has genuine, delicious Russian food. Also, share the honey cake with someone! It's delicious but VeRY sweet and you will most likely need to share! I definitely recommend checking this place out! I always wanted to try this place and finally did. It didn’t disappoint me. Food was very good. Georgian wine was good too.
We were in the neighborhood, and not too familiar with Russian or Armenian food. We expected to have borscht and pierogies, but when we saw the menu, I went for the rabbit, and my dining partner had Moscow duck, both wonderful, and we began our exploration of Georgian wines. We plan to return very soon, to try the pickles and the desserts, and many other dishes that intrigued us, pheasant, elk, ostrich, but I might not be able to resist the rabbit, as it appears on menus too rarely, and was so delicately done. Marvelous food. A bit pricey but worth it.
Love this place. They have great food and in house infused vodkas. This place is a bit unassuming from the outside, but the service and the food make up for it.
We really enjoyed our meal at Pushkin. From the host, to the waiters, to the bartender, the staff were great! Attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious! It was my first time having Russian food so admittedly I don’t have comparisons, but we enjoyed every course. We started our meal with borscht, then the beetroot salad to share, then pierogis and beef stroganoff. We also enjoyed the Pushkin Chardonnay and the Russian pear soda. All in all a great meal! I really can’t describe how good this place actually is. We aren’t meat and potatoes kinda people and we’re skeptical that’s what we would find. Instead we found a wealth of unique flavor. I really enjoy the dinner and trying Russian food. Coming from Europe I was somewhat familiar with what to order. We had pelmeni dumplings and buckwheat with stroganof. Pushkin Russian Restaurant is perfectly located near the Balboa Theatre and the Lyric Theatre downtown for a pre-performance dinner. When I used to live in Northern California, I visited a few different Russian restaurants quite often. As much as I love Russian food, those places usually ran on alcohol sales. The food was not that great at most Russian restaurants I've been to in the past (dry, too salty, or lacking flavor). Pushkin is a whole different story! We only went there once for dinner. The place is so nice...Everything that we ordered was beyond delicious! My husband is not Russian and he loved every single thing we ordered. I ordered the vegetarian Armenian salad, which was to die for! He had lamb, and it was soooo good! The appetizers and drinks were amazing! And there was the cutest live singer there. I highly recommend! More...

One of the best meal experiences, hands down! Celebrated my birthday there in a group of 6. We ordered the "Russian feast" option, which included pretty much the entire menu, and both Russian natives and newbies enjoyed the cuisine. Their elk, rabbit, pelmeni and honey cake deserve a special mention, as well as vodka flights (horseradish, specifically). They also have a list of great homemade Georgian wines. Service was very attentive and personable. Definitely a great way to experience authentic Russian cuisine, whether you crave the taste of home or want to try out something new. More...

Good food. Good service!!!
A great introduction to Russian/Ukrainian food and beverage. We had the eggplant appetizer followed by duck and rabbit. We also had a glass of Obolon Dark beer. It was all quite good. The setting certainly makes me think "Russian" The clientele were quite mixed but clearly included those who should know the real thing.
