Over the past 20 years, I’ve undertaken a wide variety of carpentry and joinery work from producing doors and windows, to loft conversions and office and retail refurbishments. However, over this time I’ve come to realise that my true passion in my trade lies with producing bespoke items of furniture such as wardrobes, kitchens, alcove units and tailor made storage solutions.

I set up Purdom’s Bespoke Furniture with a view to moving away from general carpentry and growing a small team in order to pursue my passion and specialise in what I love. What drives me is the challenge to produce unique, beautiful items of furniture of the highest quality. I love giving clients something that is tailor-made to their own functional needs and individual style.

I have seen a lot of shoddy workmanship over the years, and a lack of care in people’s work as well as a lack of respect for clients’ needs and their homes, all of which I cannot tolerate. I am fully committed to giving my clients a high quality service, from the initial design stages all the way through to completion.

In the initial stages I liaise with clients in great detail to discover their exact requirements in terms of functionality, and also their preference of style and finish, offering design guidance when needed. I spend a lot of time researching the most suitable wood and materials for the furniture in question. I also put great time and effort into making sure the wood is stored in the best possible conditions in order to maintain its high quality and ensure the wood is acclimatised for someone’s home.

During the production stage in my workshop, I always pay great attention to detail in order to ensure the furniture is of the highest quality finish. I am never happy until I’ve created the best piece of furniture I possibly can, and I’m never happier than when a client tells me how delighted they are with their new addition.

At the fitting stage, I am very respectful of my client’s home and try to create as little mess and disruption as possible. However, my aim is not to leave their home just as I found it, but actually to leave them with that something extra special – a unique item of bespoke handmade furniture that enhances and compliments their home; a timeless piece that is an expression of their style and individuality.
