I rescued our dog Lucy as a pup and as she's got older I noticed a few bad behaviors I knew I needed to correct (aggressive barking & pulling on the leash). My kids could not walk Lucy because she would lunge and bark at people in a ferocious manor. I signed up for PUPs training after seeing a pit bull (Diesel) that was better behaved than my 8 year old golden retriever at the vets office. After enrolling in a class I signed up for a private lesson because I knew I needed to try to correct Lucy's behavior before first day of class. I had tried a lot of no pull collars and I walked into the private lesson with a no pull harness on Lucy that was not working because she pulled me all over the room and barked like a crazy dog at herself in the mirror. During the lesson Lucy was fitted for a prong collar and choke chain and I walked her around the room again. There was an IMMEDIATE change in Lucy's behavior (NO PULLING). The next day my 9 year old asked to walk Lucy and she returned 30 minutes later and told me that Lucy didn't pull at all. PUPS suggested a no bark collar to correct the barking that would increase in intensity until the barking ends. Before the barking collar the UPS man was afraid to deliver packages and now he's giving her treats!! PUPS YOU ROCK! More...

Karen is absolutely phenomenal with dogs. When I rescued my pit bull mix and was having an extremely difficult time trying to walk her, I called Karen. I enrolled in PUPS obedience class and felt like my dog was the worse one there! Karen taught me (not my dog) how to work on the exercises that taught my dog what was expected of her and how to properly discipline and reward her. By the end of the class, I had a completely different dog. 10 years ago, Karen Decker was the key to my rescued dog's current excellent behavior. Her wealth of knowledge regarding canine (and human! ) behavior allowed for a tailor-made regimen for my dog and me, resulting in a solid bonding experience, a dog who is respectful to houseguests and people we meet in the street, and who obeys my commands. Karen has over 25 years of trainer experience and lives and breathes training. I could not understand why my golden puppy would not listen to me and Karen worked with me to the point I attended FOUR FULL sessions of training for the initial fee. So, I didn't have to pay to go back to class. Today, my golden puppy is almost 7 and while she's still very strong willed, she's a great dog and I owe that all to Karen and her training experience, techniques and patience. :)She also helped to advise me on my second dog which was another golden retriever. We have a very happy, lively home with two wonderful best friends who know boundaries and we can actually enjoy day in and day out. This was the best training! I have a 12 year old reactive dog who made remarkable improvement in just 8 weeks. (And I improved as a dog parent too) Not only do you learn what to do but why. I now have a better bond with my dog (and I didn't think was even possible) and I am much more confident when we go on adventures together.

Karen and Kristen were wonderful to work with. I have a ~4 year old reactive American Pitbull Terrier mix who had no interest in listening to me anytime we stepped outside on a leash. After going through PUPS' basic obedience class, I'm happy to say I've seen great improvements not only in my dogs' ability and desire to listen but his overall happiness as well. I have also become a much more confident dog owner who can now make the right decisions for my dog.

Recently, while on a walk, we were able to calmly pass by numerous cats without barking or lunging for the first time ever!! Moments like this would not have been possible without Karen/PUPS. More...

After an anxiety seminar and a behavior assessment, OMG Ludo is like a completely different dog this week! We went on the same walk today that he bit me on one week ago and we walked by several little dogs with no problem. I didn't even have to pop the prong collar. I was contemplating becoming a first-time owner of a 4 year old bulldog/pitbull mix and I knew I needed help so based on the reviews online I contacted Pups regarding training. Karen provided a wealth of information and was very responsive to my many questions. I can tell that she genuinely cares about dogs. Karen and Kristen have worked extensivley with me and my sometimes difficult dog. They have gone way above and beyond to make accommodations esp. when my dog was injured and had to take a long time off from training and we had to train differently due to some behavior issues post recovery. I have also enjoyed having rally classes available to learn something fun to do with my dog. My Aussiedoodle Otis and I did both the puppy bonding course with Kristen and the basic obedience class. I HIGHLY recommend them and the training. The puppy class (we started when he was 16 weeks) really helped shape my relationship with Otis in a positive way. We started the obedience class when he was about 5 months old and the class was great for him. I know PUPS works great for dogs with "issues", but it was great for my issue-free puppy. It was nice to know we were starting off on a positive footing with his behavior and my handling of him. Karen was very flexible when I needed to move to a different class because of work scheduling. Can't say enough good things about this place. After 3 months of dealing with escalating aggression and one week of her starting to nip our kid's friends out of anxiety we almost took Miley back to the rescue. She was becoming a liability with all the children that come though here. We had done 8 weeks at another treat based training class. She learned everything they taught with food but when the food was gone would go right to targeting other dogs. PUPS and Karen got Miley back on track day 1! I was amazed week 1 around 10 other dogs. When she started to target a dog, Karen's daughter guided me with an appropriate correction. Miley stopped immediately, calmed and sat then laid at my feet the whole hour. Week 6 just finished at PUPS and we weaved through the other dogs at perfect heel. No sign of aggression. AMAZING. Miley was lunging at the other dogs at the other old class week after week. A place that wanted another $225 for 1.5 hr aggressive behavior consult! Before the $300 cranky dog class. Don't waste your money anywhere else. Try Karen/PUPS, do your weekly training exercise, and you have a great obedient dog. PUPS will help you build a relationship with your pup. Miley is lucky we found them. More...

In the beginning of 2017, my boyfriend and I rescued a 7 month old boxer mix. He had separation anxiety (to the point that he would lose his mind if I walked out of the room), crate issues where he would cry or bite himself when he was in the crate, and people aggression (he had lunged at my boyfriend several times). Needless to say, our dog was very reactive and we weren't sure if our home could be his forever home. We decided to give PUPS obedience school a try as it was recommended by the adoption center. During our initial evaluation, Karen was extremely supportive and understanding of our situation- she gave us some tips on how to handle our dog during the period of time before we started the group classes. Within 1 month of starting the group classes, we saw major changes in our dog's behavior- he was more comfortable being left alone and starting to see his crate as a safe space. It has been a little under a month since our group class has ended and it is like we have a new dog. He is no longer reactive, he trusts us, he LIKES people (who would have thought), he puts himself to bed in a room that we aren't in whenever he is tired or needs a break from us, and he willingly goes into his crate. He also listens, follows instructions, and his is now a pleasure to take on hikes. None of these changes would have been possible without Karen training US on how to train him. After the basics training classes, we have continued with some private sessions to further advance our dog training skills and we couldn't be happier with the decision to give our dog a chance and enlist the help of Karen and PUPs obedience school to help him succeed.
