It amazes me what only six weeks of puppy kindergarten teaches not only the dog, but the owner as well. As long as you practice a few times a day you will have a puppy that is better at listening and following commands after just the first week. Every week builds on that progress. More...

We wanted to make sure our large breed pup would be well trained before reaching full size so started training at another local dog training center (I won't name, but we weren't happy) Within 1 visit to proper paws for a puppy socialization class, we learned more from Judy within 15 minutes than we had learned from all of our previous training and knew we just had to work with her. Judy is personable, incredible at her craft, and our puppy just LOVES being with her and at her facility. (he gets so excited to go to class) You will not be disappointed in choosing proper paws. With our 3 dogs, we have worked with 6 dog trainers. Judy is the best. She has on-line materials and home work assignments to insure we are prepared for our class. The physical layout, with movable partitions, lets each dog and owner work without the distraction of other dogs when necessary. Judy answers our questions and shares her deep experience of dog behavior, but most to the time we are working with our dogs - great balance of talk and action. She is supportive and extremely helpful in coaching us to understand our dogs' needs. We recommend her highly - and so does our dog, who adores her. More...

I've been working with Judy for a year with my 14 month old puppy. She has helped our family go from being overwhelmed to happy and proud to take our dog anywhere. She started by answering my panicked call the day after we got home and my puppy refused to go in a crate. We have come so far in a year that now we are doing some beginning agility training. Most importantly, my dog will come when called, stay with me in a public place, obeys commands, and does not jump on people. I'm not sure who loves Judy more: my pup, now just a year old, or me. In truth, we both adore her. We started working with Judy when he was about five months old and in the middle of the puppy crazies. She is really teaching me to train my dog and does it with fine instruction, good humor and cheer, and a love for dogs that shines through. She has helped me get into his head when he is not doing what I hope he will do. He comes when called about 95 percent of the time (one of the times he doesn't heed me is when he catches sight of her arriving at the field where we play), which I think is one of the most important commands to learn. Most of all, I appreciate her teaching me how to talk to my dog so he loves me and respects me and to show me how we can have fun together. I recommend her unconditionally. More...

I highly recommend Judy and her Proper Paws Dog Training. Judy knows how to communicate well with dogs and people; dogs respond beautifully to her, and she gives people confidence in training their dogs. Judy has been working with us since our Golden Retriever puppy was 10 weeks old (he's now 10 months), and we've worked with her on specific issues as well as general training. Her insightful and humane ideas about shaping a dog's behavior and her flexible approach, tailored to the particular situation and dog, have guided us in teaching our Golden Retriever puppy to be a responsive, attentive, and wonderful dog. She is thoroughly knowledgeable about dog behavior and will recommend books to read if you want. Judy is very generous with her time; for instance, she came over on short notice as behavioral problems arose during our dog's adolescent phase, and she readily answers questions by email in between training sessions.
