Preferred Sonoma Caterers

We got married in Santa Rosa in a redwoods grove in July and had over a year to plan so have been working with Preferred Sonoma catering for a while.  The venue is bare bones so if you need a catering company to come in with full service and deliver on fantastic local food and service for a reasonable price then this is your company . Edie won us over on the first meeting where she laid out the day and the food options based on their direct experience with our venue and all the while asking us questions on our preferences and our story which no other caterer did. We honestly can not think of any category that they can improve.. the guests raved about the food (and I do feel like the standards are high for NorCal) and they worked seamlessly with our other venues and the drinks never stopped flowing ! If I could give higher than 5 stars, I would do so in a heartbeat. Not sure where to start on how invaluable Preferred Sonoma Caterers was to our wedding experience last November at The Secret Gardens in Bodega. First of all, Amber and her team were phenomenal to work with. We could tell how knowledgeable and on the ball Amber was even after exchanging just a few sentences with her. Our first meeting was extremely informative and efficient and you could tell that she works hard to make each catering experience personalized to the client's style. Aside from meetings with Amber, I corresponded mostly with Edie from the office and she was so incredible at answering all of my questions throughout the process with such a quick turnaround. Next - THE FOOD. WAS. AWESOME!We went with the Sonoma County Bounty display with cheese, fruit, bread, and crackers as our hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour, which I got a lot of really good feedback on from many of our guests. For dinner, we had a family style salad served to the tables immediately along with bread and olives, and then a buffet of braised beef short ribs  with truffle sauce (the MVP of the meal), lemon and rosemary roasted chicken with fig gastrique, white cheddar potato gratin, toasted pearl couscous with butternut squash and currants, and grilled vegetables. My mouth is watering just writing about it! I wish I could hire them to cook for me everyday.For our guests with dietary restrictions, I just noted where they were sitting and what their restrictions were in our seating chart and they brought out a special dish to accommodate them. They also noted which dishes were gluten-free and dairy-free at the buffet itself in case anyone wanted to go back for more. We got married over 6 months ago now, and just the other day someone brought up how good they thought our wedding food was. Luckily we did get to eat on the day (I know not all brides and grooms have that luxury), but also the team boxed up two meals from the buffet for myself and my husband for us to enjoy later. Even reheated it was absolutely delicious.As for rentals, they work with the company and place the order for whatever customized items you choose along with all of the standard necessities. They had two companies to choose from - Encore or JRB. (We went with Encore for the rose gold flatware and copper chargers. No regrets.) I found it helpful to have them take care of that piece. One less thing that we had to worry about!The team the day of also blew me away. During my first meeting with Amber she mentioned that they could set out table decorations once they place the linens as long as I have them organized with clear instructions for the team. This was incredibly helpful and they did an amazing job. I am so grateful for them. They even boxed everything back up for us in the end! Truly above and beyond. I am a wedding photographer who recently got to work along side of PSC! I was BEYOND impressed with their efficiency, their care, & their efforts to make everything amazing! !! Preferred Sonoma Caterers provided the excellent menu of goodies at the Hansel BMW Holiday party and could not have been better! The wonderful staff generously made the rounds with incredible hors d'oeuvres, hot from the mobile onsite kitchen in a tent, including a crab tartlet and a Korean short rib piled on top of sushi rice cake, scrumptious!In addition to the excellent hors d'oeuvres was a hot bar of melt in your mouth short ribs and the best mash potatoes I have ever tasted!Of course they had a premium charcuterie table and a desert table too!If your hosting a premium event in the area, I have no idea what the cost would be, but I would certainly obtain a quote form PSC. I can't even compile words that are worthy to compliment the incredible team at PSC. When my husband and I first started planning our wedding, we both agreed that our priorities are a great band and great food (and lots of booze). We've been to enough weddings to know to bring down our standards when it comes to wedding food, but Amber is a powerhouse! There was not one thing that wasn't absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked! How did she do that for 162 people Magic, that's how. We hired them to cater our Sonoma vineyard wedding this past April based on reviews and we are so glad we did!! Amber and Edie are a dynamic duo. They were flexible, patient, insightful and responsive. The wedding industry made the wedding planning phase quite unpleasant, but PSC brought light into our experience with their integrity and transparency. We really miss dealing with them!They not only executed a delectable menu for our wedding, but also took care of the equipment rental for us! This was a one-stop-shop and they did an incredible job at creating the table we wanted; simple yet elegant. Six months later and we are STILL getting compliments from our guests about the food! Amber is not only extremely talented, she is also very passionate about her business as evidenced by the experience we and our guests had. Everything from the food, to the tables, to the professional serving staff enhanced our wedding tremendously! And in the middle of all the craziness, Amber even made the time to help my MOH bustle my very heavy gown! Hello Catering Team! Wow. Words cannot describe how amazing our wedding was. We wanted to reach out and give you are biggest thanks. It really could not have gone any smoother than it did. We enjoyed the food so much. I have to say, all the weddings we have worked and attended over the last 14 years, we have NEVER heard so many compliments, over the top raves about the food. We got married at the Secret Gardens and knew that we wanted a caterer familiar with the quirky setup of the venue. This team is the one to hire! We knew we were in good hands from the beginning; Edie was super helpful and very responsive, and Amber made the entire process easy, seamless, and fun. In fact, they were so fantastic that we asked them to caterer our brunch on the bluffs the following day.The FOOD! Our friends and family are still talking about how amazing the food was at the wedding. I work in hospitality and know how difficult it is to run a banquet event and to maintain the food quality. We had two passed apps, the bounty cheese & fruit display and added charcuterie; two types of salads family style, and a full buffet with chicken, braised beef, farro, veggies, and ravioli (these were mouth-watering). Amber, Edie, and the rest of the Preferred Sonoma Caterers team were absolutely amazing! From the first meeting with Amber, we knew we were in wonderful hands. When our wedding venue cancelled on us at the last minute, Amber and her team went out of their way to help us find a new location and adapt our plan to the new venue. Amber made phone calls to anyone she could think of, even though she was on vacation during the time of our venue canceling! Amber and her team were so professional and were always quick to respond to our emails and phone calls (and we had many)!!

The PSC team went above and beyond on the day of the wedding. It was a very hot day and when I (the bride) was about to take a car up to the ceremony site, one of the servers ran inside to get me a giant glass of water. The food and drinks were spectacular, and the service was even better. As the bride and groom, we were worried about having time to eat and visit all of our guests, but the PSC made sure we had food and drinks at all times without needing to go to the buffet. At the end of the night, they packed up any of the leftovers we had so that we could take them home and enjoy the delicious food after the wedding was over. We can't thank them enough for making our day so special! All in all, it was a wonderful experience with an amazing staff and we would recommend Preferred Sonoma for any event! More...

Long overdue but PSC was our FAVOURITE VENDOR BY FAR at our 88 person wedding in Sonoma in July 2017. They blew everyone else out of the water with their professionalism, willingness to help, wedding expertise, and creativity to organise a gorgeous and smooth family style dining experience. From our very first meeting with Amber, we felt comfortable from the start and knew we were going to be in GREAT hands. She helped us navigate the process of choosing what food we'd like, organising a tasting according to our tastes and budget, table/chair/linen/cutlery choices, and so much more. On the day of, we had a welcome drink station, a sweet as bar featuring wedding special cocktails, a beautiful Sonoma Bounty, passed appetisers, a family style dinner with such AMAZING food which everyone still RAVES about a year on. We especially love and still dream about the spinach and artichoke ravioli. Many of our guests, including my wife and I, are avid foodies with high expectations of food, and PSC simply went above and beyond. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, Amber, Edie, Karen (for the day of coordination on site), and the rest of the PSC crew. My wife Jill and I used PSC to cater our wedding in Sonoma and we couldn't have been more pleased with the quality of service and knowledge Amber and her team provide. Their service goes beyond food, which was exceptional. We planned our wedding from Texas and she was always willing to send my wife the information she needed, including linen samples to match with our colors. I couldn't imagine any caterer being more accommodating or easy to work with.They made the day-of so easy for us. We didn't have to worry about any of the set-up or take down, her team hit like a storm and everything was in its placed and looked incredible. Amber, Edie and the entire PSC crew are simply amazing! Food was always one of the most important parts of our wedding for us and they delivered an amazing dining experience for us. They kept the entire event running smoothly and paid so much attention to the details, things we didn't even go over like the bar arrangement and hors d'oeuvres table setup.  Her crew brought us food and drinks while we were taking our photos, she made each plate beautiful without a full kitchen at her disposal (pretty sure she used magic) and sent us off with a plate of food, cookies and other goodies that we ate as soon as we got to our hotel room. Our friends and family continue to mention how great the food was and ask us about the different cheeses or recipes they served! They were really good, the food was amazing I told exactly what I wanted to Amber on the menu. They spilled tomato soup on my grandma (87 years old) and cousin, which everyone knows does not come out. Also there was a form to fill out that stated who gets special left overs prior to the big event, it was my parents, my in-laws and my wedding coordinator, however no one on my form got left overs. I cannot rave ENOUGH about PSC! We hired them because they gave us the cheapest bid, but god can I tell you that the food was incredible! We did the tasting a good 6 mo before the wedding and everything was DELICIOUS even my picky mom loved it. And Amber was so great about adjusting things to what we liked. The day-of, everyone was raving about the food (there were stations so everyone got to try everything). It was seriously so good, my husband and his entire family are very into good and they loved it! Amber was incredibly responsive, had great ideas for creative drinks we could do to make the wine more interesting, was incredibly accommodating, and set up all our tables and chairs exactly like we wanted (they handled our rentals as well). They take pride in being 4th generation Petaluma, sourcing local and fresh ingredients, and helping your event go off seamlessly. Oh My God! Amber is absolutely amazing! Amber catered my wedding on July 7th,2017 and the food was just as good as the tasting was! We chose a salmon, a meat and veggie dish with the sides of green beans and rosemary potatoes which  was completely gluten free for the most part. Amber was very willing and learned as much as she could about gluten free and knew from working with temples about kosher, even though she does not have a kosher kitchen. She was so easy to work with and was very willing to do whatever request we asked for. However, her assistant Edie, was not as easy to work with and before considering our request, she would just say no or give an excuse. However, Amber told us to just contact her if we have any request because my mom called a meeting with her to talk about some of her concerns. We could not imagine to have any other caterer do any better! The food tasted so good and every single person had complimented her cooking. My Husband's cousin said she usually sees wedding food  being below airplane food and rather eat that, but was happily surprised because it was better than most high class restaurants do not even taste that good. The food was amazing and even was great as the few leftovers we had as she made us a box dinner just incase we didn't get a chance to eat as weddings can be hectic. A bit of perspective: going into the wedding planning process, I was extremely skeptical of caterers, and especially caterers who did weddings.  My plan was to cater it myself, make an enormous paella, serve it on paper plates with some excellent wine, and declare victory.  Unfortunately, J wanted a groom on our wedding day, rather than a paella chef, so I reluctantly agreed to find a caterer---convinced that I would end up underwhelmed with the food, and overwhelmed by the cost.  [The quid pro quo of that deal was that I did end up making the enormous paella for our rehearsal dinner.]Simply put, I was completely blown away by Sonoma Caterers.  The entire experience exceeded my wildest expectations (for a skeptic, i have surprisingly high expectations), from the initial email exchanges and tasting, to the end of the wedding when they packed up the extra food into meal-for-two boxes for us.  First, the food was amazing.  [You know its a good caterer when they refuse to give you the heirloom tomato salad at your tasting because "they aren't quite at the peak of their season yet".]  The attention to detail both in selection of ingredients, food preparation, as well as presentation (we went with "family-style" serving) seemed less like what you would expect from a wedding meal, and more like what you would get from a nice farmhouse restaurant (or a home-cooked meal from your  Auntie Veronique---the one who runs a community garden in the Luberon region in the south of france).  Beyond the food itself, I was amazed at how helpful they were with the ordering/delivering and setting up of all the tables and the chairs (for both the dinner and the ceremony).  As with everything, it really was the attention to detail that was most startling, and the way all the really little things were done perfectly---putting out the flowers that we had arranged, incorporating the menus that we had printed out (and then left in a stack on a chair) into each place setting, artfully arranging the ceremony programs (that we, again, had left in a stack somewhere), etc.   Each of these little details seems trivial, but they all added up, and imparted a kind of unexpected grace and elegance [dinner was in a barn...we were expecting 'sincere' and 'rustic', and instead got 'sincerely mind-blowingly elegant and magically rustic'.  And this brings me to the best part---Amber and Edie (and the rest of the Sonoma Caterer team) really listened to what we wanted, and made it happen.  Special cocktail recipe? Not a problem.  Emailed over the recipe ("must be served with mint and strawberry garnishes"), left the alcohol in a pile in the barn on Friday, and ended up with the exact cocktail, rendered in wedding-sized quantities, elegantly served (with mint and strawberries).   Family member with allergies to black pepper, onions, carrots, and who knows what else.  Not a problem--special meal prepared just for them.   We have a beehive in our yard and thought it would be nice to have some of our honey served at the wedding.  Great idea!  Dropped off a bit of honeycomb, and it ended up paired perfectly with one of the cheeses at our cocktail hour (and, as with everything else, the guests were delighted by this).  We had two 40lb hubbard squash that we had grown in our little backyard and stored over the winter in our garage.  Sheepishly asked Amber if they would be willing to prepare and serve a hubbard squash soup at our wedding, made out of our own hubbard squash.  Of course!  Left the squash on their doorstep Thursday morning, and ended up with the best squash soup I have ever had at our Saturday wedding (and I know my way around a squash soup---there was no leftover soup anywhere at the wedding..)   All told, these were the (big, and little) things that ended up making our wedding feel like it really reflected who we are.  For this, we can't thank Amber, Edie, and the other folks at Sonoma Caterers enough. Holy amazing! If I could give Preferred Sonoma more stars I would. These are the guys that you want to trust to handle your wedding day. Seriously!My husband and I got married in Yosemite but we wanted something for friends and family as well. So we decided to hold a reception in Bodega Bay at the Secret Gardens. We immediately wanted a company who had experience at the gardens since it can be tricky to get to. Preferred Sonoma was the way to go. These guys have it down! They were helpful in choosing our menu (Amber is a genius with food!) and answered all of our questions and concerns up to the very last days before the reception. Edie (the woman who is in charge of emails) is hands down the best communicator we have come across. She is helpful, doesn't push any extra costs on us, and is very prompt in her responses back. She sent us multiple quotes as we added and eliminated things without any hesitation.The day of the reception, the team got to the gardens right on time and began setting up immediately. Amber handled everything and made our day so smooth and worry free. The captain made me a plate to eat (it's hard to remember when you want to talk to everyone!) and even packed us extra food at the end of the night. The staff was so friendly and accommodating to all of our guests.The food. My god, the food! We had the bounty harvest with cheese and fruits which was a hit! Everyone loved it and the caterers left the table out for almost the whole night so guests could nibble on it. For our main course we had chicken and mushroom kebabs, trip tip, macaroni and cheese (the best thing I have ever eaten) and grilled veggies. We had two different types of salad and they even baked us individual pies for dessert! We had a s'mores bar with different types of chocolate and guests just couldn't get enough! At the end of the night, the team broke down everything so quickly and efficiently and let my husband and I enjoy the rest of the night. Thank you Edie and Amber so much for all of your hard work. The team at Preferred Sonoma Caterers was absolutely perfect for our wedding! We had a DIY backyard summer wedding in Napa and they really made our wedding feel like a special event. Amber came out to the property twice to help us plan. She was instrumental in helping us execute our vision. I valued her opinion and expertise throughout the whole process. She made the planning very straightforward and easy. She understood exactly what we wanted and she delivered - from the table settings to the food. The food was refined and elegant, a perfect depiction of California cuisine.  I had a few special requests - a cheese tower, a gluten free menu, and the assembly of a macaron tower - and PSC went above and beyond on each account. Amber even woke up at 6am to bake gluten free bread for every table, which was an unexpected and touching surprise! Karen was in charge the day of the wedding and she was awesome. She was communicative, helpful, and completely on top of everything that needed to get done. Karen had a positive and cheerful attitude that made me feel at ease on the big day. It was really hard trying to find a caterer in the Bay Area when you live in Southern California but when we found Preferred Sonoma Caterers through Yelp things got so much easier in planning for our daughters wedding! Edie was fantastic in getting back to us promptly each and every time we emailed and very accommodating for our small intimate wedding celebration! Karen and Jan were amazing and the food was delicious as well as the presentation! Their professionalism made our dinner reception so wonderful not too mention their fun and friendly attitudes! Preferred Sonoma catered our wedding at Trentadue winery in Geyserville, and from start to finish they were incredibly professional.  Our goal was to have a memorable dinner for our family and guests, mirroring the quality of all the great restaurants my wife and I had visited in our years of dating.  The head chef Amber basically invented a menu for us on the spot at our first meeting in Petaluma, and was extremely professional and helpful throughout the process...not just with the catering alone, but also helping us find our other vendors, and an officiant!  Amber is the type of person who literally opened doors for strangers who were wine tasting while we were doing a walk-through of the winery.  She also helped my wife out with her wedding dress on the big day.  Big thanks to her and her staff.On top of that, the service and food were incredible.  I will attach pictures when I get the chance!  The price point is extremely reasonable and appropriate.  Don't hesitate to contact this business, they are the real deal.
