I'm complaining because the brisket queso didn't last long enough, the food looked too good to eat but we ate it anyway, and the drinks were so ice cold the glasses were sweating. Our waitress Chrissy was competent and friendly though, and a lovely highlight to our evening! Truthfully a wonderful dining experience overall. More...
The food is always great here. Tonight we had a takeout order. When I got home we found that had missed multiple items. Upon returning to the restaurant to tell them what happened the manager said they were remaking the entire order. You don’t often see that. Great place! Worth checking out if you haven’t been here. Excelent atention, very nice place
The steak was delicious
Awesome food. Great service.
Soooooo much good food! I had a chicken fried chicken sandwich and I had to cut off one third of it to fit on the bun. It was very good and my son will have a nice meal tonight. Waitress was right on it and restaurant was clean. A little dark in the area that we ate but otherwise I recommend. More...
5 stars as far as breakfast goes. Good coffee, and great omelet.
Good food. NOT Expensive. Fast service
The food is good and the service is great. Enjoy the live music.

Excellent food will highly recommend it.
The food is regularly fresh and yummy, cashiers hands out awesome service. I like how clean it is and vibes. I highly recommend this place.

Always love this place! Service, taste and timeliness are top quality!
If you’ve ever played RDR2 you’ll love this restaurant. Also the food is delicious. Courteous staff. Nice environment.
The salads are so good that ranch
Great Father's Day lunch with family. Always nice when a family member working here is you waitress.
Good selection, tasty food, reasonable prices, and friendly service.
Well worth a 40min to an hour or more drive. Everything was great
Service & good food
Awesome place! Great bbq, great service and great prices... we will be going back for sure
The food was wonderful and cooked perfectly the way I like it..the atmosphere was very nice...the service was great and you will not leave hungry if you go...I will definitely go back...
Always great food and fast, friendly service! Best brisket in all of Texas! Warning....the fried green beans with their house ranch are addictive! Wonderful country decor as well.
Good southern fare!
First time there! We were amazed at this "gem"! Great service, great prices, a lot of food for the cost & atmosphere was amazing! My new favorite place❤
Great breakfast. I can never finish my plate.
Delicious fried catfish.

Chicken Fried steak was very tasty.
Pork chops are always good.
First time visitor. Impressed with quality of food. Service was good but was slow to bring extra sauce when requested. Overall enjoyed experience and will return when back in town.
The food was very good and so was the service. The atmosphere was definitely rustic with animal mounts on the walls and filling the lobby. The prices were a little high. Overall we enjoyed our visit will probably go again in the future. More...
Love the food had enough to bring home..service was perfect
I love prairie house. Service is great. Atmosphere is great. Food is great.
Good! Real good! That bbq sauce is OUTSTANDING! We'll be back. Service real good.
Great food and great service!
I simply cannot say enough nice things about this place. The service was super friendly, the serving sizes were humongous, and the food was incredible!!
Went here for lunch based on a recommendation from a coworker. We had the burnt ends to start. I had the Saturday lunch special, the chicken fried chicken. It's enormous! My father in law had the smoked ribs. He said they were the best ribs he has ever had. Service was excellent. Highly recommend! More...
Love the breakfast
The food at Prairie House was delicious. The grilled salmon was perfect, my brother in law very much enjoyed his tender ribs, sausage and burnt ends, and my husband had some very tasty fried catfish. The atmosphere was quite enjoyable looking at all the rustic antiques of yesteryear. Service was friendly and efficient? We'll be back. More...
Good food and atmosphere everything on menu is Great as well as service
Amazing food with great service for the 2nd time. I will be back again.
Food really good, service was lacking.
Love the local establishment and food. Great for a family.
I've never actually eaten here, but stopped here several times when going back home after a long motorcycle ride. Upon entering this establishment, you will be greeted by a tall stuffed bear (real bear, not a teddy bear). In fact that bar area has several stuffed heads of animals, if that's your type of thing. The place is very family friendly and is never empty. The waitstaff is super friendly and the beers are always ice cold. The restaurant is clean and well run. It's very unique, and please stop by and visit! More...
Came here for the second time and the food was awesome! I got brisket and it was so good. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. We Will definitely be going back!
Love me some prairie house! I have pretty much tried everything on the menu and everything is always prepared nicely. Can't go wrong with this old school western style eatery.
Prairie house has good southern food. Their wait staff is on point and I love the food. At night they tend to have a wait list but the food and service is definitely worth the wait
Very excellent southern food at it's best. Steak fries are perfect. Meat is high quality & portions are generous. My only regret is I didn't have any room left for dessert
The very best breakfast EVER! The pancakes are crisp on the edges, bacon crisp and service spectacular.
Best steak I have had in a long time. Lived in Texas a little over a year now, and i drive past the Prairie House everyday. Decided to give it a try on my birthday and it didn't disappoint. I had the steak with a loaded baked potato, steak was cooked to perfection. I also sat by the bar, bartender was nice and polite. I will definitely be back. More...
Great food and service! If you've never been here, I'd highly recommend the chicken fried steak or the chicken fried chicken. The BBQ ribs are good, too... Don't forget about the Wagyu burger. At times it gets noisy but that's just a bunch of people enjoying their dinner. More...
The food was very good. There were three of us; we all got something different and we all really enjoyed what we ordered.
Spacious seating areas. Rustic farm/ranch/western atmosphere. Comfortable. Relaxed. More...
Always a great visit!! Consistently good food!! Recently had the pleasure of dining at lunch time in Chrissy's section. She understood that I was kind of in a time crunch. She was polite and attentive. She paid attention to detail and never left me waiting. My plate and service were outstanding! Thank u so much!!!! More...
I'd say this is a good choice when you're craving some BBQ in the area. Service was great and atmosphere is definitely fun. The only reason why I gave 4 and not 5 stars is I was disappointed in the Queso. The cheese wasn't melted enough. The sliced beef sandwich was incredible! The fried okra was pretty good as well. And I definitely was a fan of the bbq sauce. More...
This place is cozy and country. I work in the area and the constant, delicious, aromatic smells of smoked meats is intoxicating. I'd eat here every day if my waist line would permit. The Cowboy Special is perfectly filling and very flavorful. The burnt ends are also choice, as are the ribs. You almost can't go wrong here. Just go and order something, and you will be happy you did so. But seriously, this place is delicious. More...
We've been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. The food is decent and always hot. We've never had a bad experience here. I think the most memorable thing they have here is their stuffed hot peppers. They're pretty good. If you're looking for a hot meal and don't want to travel over 20-30 mins in 380 traffic you should try this place. More...
The atmosphere The food. The staff. All great! Only complaint they only brought me 1 piece of cornbread at a time but probably for the better I wouldn't have been able to stop otherwise lol.
Great place and service! Food was delicious the portions where huge and the price was fair!!
Good ole country comfort food. Fried catfish our chicken-fried steak are a good start. Great place for breakfast or brunch after church. Going back to try the Texas 2 or 3-side step plate. Ambiance is phenomenal for those into hunting game and old country paraphernalia. Loved it. More...
We stopped by here on our way home and were able to choose from the breakfast or lunch/dinner menu. I had the steak and eggs (sorry I cannot remember the actual menu name) and it was cooked properly and was tender and juicy and just the right size to start the day out. My wife had French toast, and it really delivered, 3 large slices, perfectly toasted and lightly dusted with powder sugar. The staff was friendly and attentive, and our waitress even filled my coffee tumbler for the road! More...
I had the chicken fried ribeye with sweet potato fries. It was delicious. My husband had the chicken fried chicken. He did not need a knife! The side salads are great, homemade ranch and croutons. I love the cornbread!!!! Great southern fried food!!!!! More...
We love this place, love the feel and the food. Always get great service. TEXAS toothpicks are our fav.
This restaurant deserves a five star for service and delicious food. I had a chicken salad and chips and dips. Both tasted absolutely amazing. The portions were large and price was reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant while visiting Little Elm. More...
Been here once. The food was orgasmic. Never had better mashed taters that I can remember! (No, I don't actually say that irl)

After talking to the owner of the Prairie House I feel confident our issues in the past have been addressed. The owner was very concerned which, in my opinion was wonderful! I am certain that the food will be up to the standards that the Prairie House is know for. I remember the delight I used to have going to the Prairie House when I first moved to the Denton Area. I am very happy the Prairie House has grown and that they are the same people as they were before. Thank you Prairie House! A place that is still a pure Jewel of Aubrey, Texas. More...
We keep going because we moved into the area and we possibly have a barbecue addiction. This place holds its own against the bigger more popular joints. Try the bandidos and the brisket. The cowboy special is a good option for dinner and a little whiskey for dessert. More...
We have driven by this place for years. Coming and going from OK or some parts, the parking lot was always busy but our timing was never right as we we're almost home or just getting started. We finally had the right occasion to stop and it did not disappoint! Christmas Eve lunch and we got the Holiday Special with Turkey, Hame, dressing etc etc. Just a great place to "slow down" on 380 and grab a got bite to eat! We will be back More...
Absolutely love this place. Great atmosphere, food and customer service. Try the skillet brisket hash for breakfast. It is incredible. The chicken fried steak is also outstanding for lunch or dinner. The food is also reasonably priced. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a great experience. More...
Love this place. Food is amazing. Order the Bandidos or sampler plate! You won't regret it. Jade is the best bartender ever. Tastiest steaks you can find in this area. Breakfast is awesome, too. This place is a hidden gem! More...
This is my favorite restaurant! I have been eating here for years and I never get tired of the food, which is saying something! I have never had a bad experience with this restaurant whether it is eating in or takeout. Everyone is super nice and helpful if you have a problem tell them, the owner takes the service very seriously and will fix it. The food is to die for from the famous banditios to their steaks. This is definitely the best place for steaks in the Denton area. If you like Texas Roadhouse then you need to come here I promise you will never want to order a steak from Texas Roadhouse again! The decor is different and entertaining lots of neat things to look at while you wait for your food. No matter the occasion this is the place to be! More...
We ate there last Wednesday. Our group had a steak, pork chop, burnt ends, sausage and poppers; all were very good. The service in the bar was fast and friendly.
Years ago this became my favorite restaurant. Well we moved out of state but every time I am in the DFW area I try to make it. Years later it is still so good!!! We now live in Fort Worth, I will make the hour drive a couple times a year. More...
This place is amazing. I just had lunch there today and was blown away by there affordable chicken fried steak HUGE meal btw. My friend had a rib eye steak...cooked to perfection ! Usually places dont cook steaks to the Right temperature but they nailed hers. She also had a wine with her dinner. I could not believe how nice their wine list was and very descriptive as well.WILL BE RETURNING SOON to try some of those craft beers! More...
Came here with a bridal party group and we were able to make a reservation since there was 8 of us. The number one recommended is the country breakfast cause you can build your own, and have the eggs cooked to your personal taste. We also had mimosas and coffee, the prices were very fair, and the food was really good. Our waitress was super sweet and nice. PS: My personal favorite: the bandidos!!! More...
Great breakfast and a unique assortment of dinner meats to tantalize your palate !!!!!
Been eating here for several decades. Had the grilled catfish yesterday and was shocked. Best grilled fish ever. The fish had a smoky flavor and was out of this world. The sides of Cole slaw and beans were spot on. More...
Excellent food, extremely friendly staff and comfortable environment. Will definitely be going back!
Visiting from out of state, to help my youngest son whom just moved here. Decided to have our family birthday dinner for my oldest son while we were all together. Hands down this was an excellent experience and much appreciated from my youngest who has been lacking the good experience eateries since arriving to Texas. The waiter was attentive, gave great feedback on selections and overall...there was no complaints. Great food, great energy! Recommend the steak (of course), the bison burger, the queso, the fried mushrooms, the mash potatoes. The only complaint from my one son was the smell of the Dr Pepper. He said it smelled like the water in Albuquerque (which isn't good if you e ever been there) Other than that....it was great! More...
So the day I left my review the owner messaged me and was very interested in making the situation right and appreciated my input on my visit. I will definitely give this place another try as I stated before the food was really good and I felt like the prices were reasonable for the amount of food served. It's refreshing to see business owners take a hands on roll in every aspect of their company. More...
It's the restaurant we go to because we can't make up our minds and we live close by. The food is good but not great. It's a decent meal that feels like a home cooked meal. It can be a hit or miss with the wait staff but I've never had horrible service. I do like to take out of towners here since the decor is very rustic and has a country feel and they seem to always enjoy it. We did once ask to sit outside and had to dust off the table and clean off the spiderwebs. The waitress looked at us like we were crazy for asking to go outdoors. This place would make a great Friday night with some drinks and a live band out there in their amazing outdoor space that doesn't get used. I would be there hands down every weekend. Please consider this! I edited my review as I reread it and realized it was a little harsh. To me, 3 star would mean I probably wouldn't come back but my husband and I come here time and time again so I changed it to 4. More...
I have been here on several occasions and the food and service have always been pretty good! The banditos on the appitizer menu are a must! I feel the portions are a very good size as well. Great place for some southern comfort food! More...
It is a fun place to go and the food is good. We meet my daughter there on Sunday afternoon twice a month. Our 5 year old twin grand kids love it! The chicken fried steak is large enough for two people. Just order extra sides. We like the BBQ chicken breast. The kids love the childrens menu. We eat outside weather permitting. There is a fun area for the kids to run and explore on the farm equipment very nicely displayed about. The decor inside and out is rustic and gives you that warm feeling of being on vacation when you discover that "one of a kind restaurant" that you can't wait to tell everyone about when you get home. There is also a large room that looks like they may reserve for parties. I am not sure. You might want to call if looking for a party room and there is a stage outside. So I think there may be more to the restaurant that I don't know about since we go on Sunday afternoon. Go, check it out! They do serve adult beverages. More...
M husband loves the cowboy beans. And the cornbread was amazing! The staff was friendly, good atmosphere and clean restaurant.
Extremely good Southern comfort food restaurant. Their Bandidos (stuffed jalapeno, wrapped in chicken, wrapped in bacon, then grilled and drizzled with barbecue sauce, served on a bed of shoestring onions and jalapenos) are SO much better than they sound (I've made a meal of them before), and the chicken-fried ribeye (yeah, you read that right) is the tenderest steak I have ever eaten, and it is huge. From scratch mashed potatoes and gravy top it off perfectly. I'm not sure why I saw so many complaints about service. I always get exemplary service, even when they are packed to the rafters. And on Friday and Saturday nights, they serve a mesquite smoked prime rib that always goes fast because it is SO good! The only downer for me is that they quit serving their meat loaf lunch special. It was very good, and a personal favorite. More...
A little pricey but the food is normally pretty good. Chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken and the Prairie chicken are my usual picks for an entree. The Texas toothpicks and the fried mushrooms are both great choices for appetizers. Service is usually really good but can be a bit slow when they're really busy. Overall a great place! More...
The staff is always friendly and the portions are giant! This is definitely the place to go after a hard days work with an empty stomach. The brisket queso is AMAZING, and I recommend the chicken fried chicken or the catfish. Pretty much everything is worth trying though. We went when the place was packed for dinner and the wait times weren't bad for the amount of people there and seemed to go quickly. More...
This is a neighborhood fav. There's usually a moderate sized crowd here. The food is good and wait staff is always courteous and friendly.
Best BBQ in town, we were there this afternoon the 4th of July. We split a full rack of ribs. I ordered a side if fried green beans an okra. The meat was well seasoned well, succulent, and fall off the bone slow cooked. I am not sure why they don't have a 5 star rating. Our meal with drinks came to only $32.00. Well worth every penny we spent. KUDOS to the staff as well. More...
Went for breakfast. I had the cowboy plate and it was great. My Sirloin had great flavor. Everyone enjoyed their meal and mimosas. Great place for breakfast. You won't be disappointed. More...
Phenomenal! From the greeting by the hostess to the check and (substantial) gratuity, this is a first rate business focused on enhancing their customer's experiences and satisfaction. Evident every moment of our visit. Kudos!!! More...
We had family in from out of town and we decided to try this place out. There was a 20 minute wait so not bad for a Saturday night at all even thought it was packed. We got some brisket queso to start out with and it was super yummy. We all had either the fried catfish or chicken fried steak. Everything was great other than the tarter sauce. It was weird because it had cinnamon in it. So we passed on that. We ended the night with blackberry cobbler and fried cheesecake. Both were amazing. This place is great for bigger groups as well. More...
THEIR BBQ IS AMAZING. I've never had better BBQ. Their service is really friendly and attentive and the ambiance is super cute and on par with their restaurant theme of "rustic homestead". Their burnt tips are out of this world. 12/10 would recommend. More...
The food here is great. The customer service here is great as well. They do catering as well so that's awesome. Hardly had a wait the few times I've been. The restaurant is spacious. It's right off the road so you can miss it. I will definitely continue to come back. More...
We had our rehearsal dinner at the restaurant in their party room and it was great. We had chicken fried steak and the guests loved the food. It's such a cute restaurant and the outdoor area was perfect for some of the kids in my family to run around and get some energy out. They were easy to work with, and our rehearsal dinner was great! There is no better BBQ than Prairie House! I live 3 miles away and feel lucky to have this gem close by. All of my Ohio family loves to eat here when visiting, and I have used Prairie House to cater Christmas parties and baby showers. They're very easy to work with and I only needed one day advance notice to order 10 lbs of brisket and 6 lbs of sausage for a party. The atmosphere is rustic, and the giant stuffed bear at the entrance is always a winner with the kids. The service may be a little slow on busy Sunday mornings, but it's well worth the wait. More...
Never been to Cross Roads area. First time with my forever bud who has moved to Little Elm. A bit of a drive for this Dallas girl lol, but food was yummy! Great chopped beef sandwich. Baked potato was not Luther's size, but ok. I just realized I never got my other side dish, but thats ok. Bread was good. Coffee from Farmer's brother was the good, strong kind. Barrett was a good waiter. If in area & wanting bbq, be sure & stop by. More...

I love Prairie house for multiple reasons. I am a fan of their of banditos (jalapeño wrapped chicken with bacon over fried onion strings and fried jalapeños), Bloody Mary's and atmosphere. I live right down the road from Prairie House so it is a go to about three to four times a month. I love sitting outside in the summer and drinking a few margaritas. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Family friendly, convenience and good prices. More...
Excellent food and service! We leave close by and we frequently go with friends and family! Beautiful country place!
We really like this place! Price is right, food is Good, I would give 5 stars if the service was a little more enthusiastic, but Hey, it's a breakfast place!
Wow. This place was great! My husband's boss told him about it a few months ago. We finally decided to try it last week. I'm not a red meat eater. I eat grilled chicken every where I go. They had an amazing grilled chicken platter. It comes with two sides. I chose a garden salad and a baked potato. It was delicious! And only $10.99! My husband had the sausage and burnt ends plate with cole slaw and beans. He loved his too! Can't wait to bring my dad and his GF here. More...
Its a cute little place. Great chicken fried steak. Good service. Clean with interesting decor.
This is one my favorite Texas country lunch locations. They have a lunch special every day of the week. Chicken fried chicken is great. The banditos (barbequed and smoked, bacon wrapped, chicken stuffed jalapenos are a must try. It can get really busy at dinner and later, so I only make it over here for lunch. More...
Great chicken fried steak is the holy grail of any homestyle restaurant. Prairie House serves up a generous platterfull at a respectable price. Their menu covers all the staples and gives anyone plenty of choice. The atmosphere is country barn meets western dancehall and only adds to the experience. Haven't tried the BBQ yet, but expect it to be equally good.In an area shy of sitdown restaurants, it's certainly worth a trip. More...
Enjoyed this busy hotspot for several years now when we happened to explore this side of town. Very unexplored but has since exploded due to recent population transplants. Which is good because more people should experience the atmosphere, service and food that has this place thriving for years. Start off with the fried green beans and catch up with family and friends while the main dish is being served. More...
Our new favorite breakfast place. Got there about 9 on a Saturday, wasnt very busy yet, which is great for us. Our service was great!!!! They were out of Hot Chocolate which was a bummer for the kids. All of the food came out hot and correct. As for the food, pancakes are fluffy and light, eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon was crispy, hash browns ( homestyle and shredded) were seasoned nicely. More...
5 stars on food, price and atmosphere!! 2-3 stars on service... The servers are always friendly but it's like they're stretched thin because there are almost always delays and other minor issues.. good news is the management always addresses the issues respectfully and promptly. If they would step up the service a bit, this place would be 5 stars all the way!!! Best chicken fried steak and gravy I've ever had aside from my grandmother's!! Great burgers, great bbq, excellent steaks, beer a tad pricey but plenty of alcohol selection! Overall, I recommend this place and will definitely be back, often! More...
This place is and has been one of my favorite places to dine. Whether I'm dining in or carrying out, They never disappoint and I am always leaving happy. The appetizers are insane. So many menu options and styles to suite any mood or taste. Any out of towner I come across I am always delighted to tell them about Prairie House, classic down home comfort food mixed with the right amount of heat and kick to make new regulars with every dish. I suggest starting with Bandidos. My personal favorite. Oh.. and The ranch dressing! It's enough to keep you coming back! And maybe even buying some to take home, served in a mason jar of course! More...
The food was pretty good, I had the Chicken Fried Ribeye. The portion size was Texas worthy, and the other food that came out was pretty good as well. The decor is a bit like Cracker Barrel meets Black Eyed Pea, but everything was tidy which gave you something to look at vs something to try to avoid running into. If I had any advice to give the staff, it would be to make sure your ticket accuracy at the table and in the kitchen stays up (they got my gravy wrong and left a side dish off my plate, that came with two.) Maybe take the time to work on the presentation of some dishes vs just getting the food out. My baked potato arrived in the foil, which is fine, but it pretty much means you don't eat the skin as there isn't enough plate to remove the foil and still eat the potato with the main course. (Texas Roadhouse figured this out a while back, which was an improvement in my opinion.) Their dessert options seemed pretty nice, we will definitely be back. More...
Awesome spot that we found on our way to Frisco, TX. Definitely a country vibe. Our server was very attentive and impressively told me every beer that they had available without faltering. We ordered a bunch of different foods and not a single one was disappointing. I'll definitely come back when I'm in the area! More...
I ate here for lunch today, and there was nothing that was disappointing! It was all delicious and huge proportion. I had enough to have supper with tonight. Tomorrow I'm taking my wife there for her birthday supper! More...
I had the texas 3 step with the ribs, burnt ends and the bandidos. They were all delicious. You can tell this place knows how to do BBQ and have been doing it for years. The bandidos were sooo good and flavorful with a nice kick of jalapeno spice. The ribs were "fall off the bone" juicy as well as the Brisket. The service was great and the waitress was very attentive. My food was correct when I received it. The explanation of the menu was very helpful as it was my first time. I LOVED IT and will return. I suggest the cowboy beans and fried okra as the sides, but can't wait to try everything else. What are my plans for tomorrow? Hmmmmmm....... More...
Been going here for years! The food is consistent and excellent. Great staff too! Enjoy going here every time!
As good of a dining experience as you are going to have in the entire dfw area. Service excellent, food may be the best steak I've ever eaten. Burnt Ends appetizer is to die for. Beer ice cold, a very refreshing, friendly and relaxing atmosphere. They make everyone feel welcome and appreciated. You need to eat here for sure. More...

Prairie House is always our go to! Best BBQ around. The brisket burnt ends are to die for. Juicy,Tender, a little bit fatty and they make their own BBQ sauce, ranch, and jalapeño jelly! They are known for their bandidos appetizer, you'll never have anything like it. Jalapeño, pepper jack cheese, wrapped in chicken and bacon, basted in BBQ sauce and served with their house ranch over a bed of deep fried onion and jalapeño strings. We've had their fried catfish, and it's such a huge platter! You get 4-5 huge filets with scratch breading and homemade tartar sauce. My husband loves their 16 oz ribeye. It's a prime steak with just enough marbling and comes out perfect every time! We've gone in for lunch, they do specials every day for only $9.99, even on the weekends! And prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights. You just have to get there early because it can be so packed. The service has always been great and efficient, for it being so busy and I myself working in the service industry before, am completely impressed! It's a very diverse menu with lots of options and the kid menu is pretty big. My son loves the chicken strips that are made in their own special batter. Sometimes I can't help but take a few bites! Overall I love Prairie House!!! It's locally owned and operated and not a chain or corporation. I always see the managers on the floor and checking on tables and even help the servers clear tables. We always get greeted promptly and always get a "have a nice evening" on the way out. Can't wait to come back again and get some ribs! More...

Prairie House catered a grad party for us in Denton recently. Everyone loved the food! We had a crowd of about 60 persons and served 5 different appetizers. With the help of Micki, we selected the right ones. There wasn't anything left over after 2 hours of snacking and visiting. Micki arrived early to the venue, setup and went over the food quickly. Everything was covered properly to keep it as warm as possible b4 putting it over warmers. It was perfect! Great food, great service - excellent deal!! More...
First time I have been here. Arrived after lunch rush around 2:30. Was seated promptly and received drinks within the first 5 minutes of being seated. The waiter was helpful on menu items and was accommodating to substitute items on entrees. I ordered the banditos appetizer which was awesome! For lunch, I had the sliced brisket with mashed potatoes and okra. Very good. The brisket was tinder with a nice flavor. BBQ sauce was ok. The sides were warm and had a good flavor. Nice location... good service... good food... More...

This place is definitely in the top 5 of the area restaurants. Love the rustic décor. The food was really good. My hubby had the ribs and I watched the meat fall off the bone. I had a small pork chop with baked potato and that was really good. Seasoning and freshness were outstanding; it is also nice getting a hot meal. More...

Stoped here for dinner on the way home from a rough day at the Casino. Great rustic atmosphere and exceptional staff. Wife and I were celebrating our 45 Anniversary and really didn't expect outstanding meals and service. We both had mesquite grilled trout. Fabulous. Not an item you can find on many menus in Texas. Our server, Natalie was outstanding. We live 35 miles away but will put this jewel on our regular schedule. More...
I have been to a lot of BBQ places, This place is definitely worth a stop. Great food, service, and a good value. Will be back.
The Prairie House has very good grilled chicken. You also have to try the banditos, they are the best!!!
Good service from friendly servers. The barbecue brisket was very good! Prices are reasonable. The rustic atmosphere reminds me of places back in Montana and Wyoming. Will definitely be back.
Today was our first time here and we came based on a strong recommendation from a friend. I know this location has been open for quite some time, I believe the server told us 1989, and they have a strong following so you figure they got to be good. I first noticed the rustic charm of the place: it looks like a giant wood cabin with an old, wooden door and there is a lot of country themed decorating. The second thing I noticed was this place was huge. You enter into the hostess area where there seemed to be at least 3 hostesses and a large dining area behind them. When the hostess asked me if the other room would be okay, I looked around and realized I was only seeing a third of the restaurant. You could probably host a party here and they would still have plenty of seating in the other two areas for customers. This worked out in our favor because we arrived Saturday, just before 1pm, but were still seated at a booth promptly. They have a mismatch hodgepodge going on with the tables but I find it adds to the rustic charm. The clientele seems to range from gathering groups to young families to couples so they clearly appeal to everyone. Our server gave us the lunch menus which was chock full of options and made me curious about their dinner menu. I noticed they have $9.99 lunch specials every day including the weekends. Saturday is CFC and Sunday is CFS, both of which were recommended to us by others, but not quite what we were in the mood for by the time we arrived. They have quite the range of appetizers including some real spicy items, mozzarella cheese, fried mushrooms and burnt ends- which I cannot wait to try on a future visit. They have a seafood section, steak and an extensive BBQ offering in addition to hamburgers and sandwiches. They serve the drinks in very large cups so you most likely won't need a refill which is good because the servers are kept very busy. My sweet tea was too watered down for my liking so I would most likely opt for a soda the next time. We ordered the Texas Grilled Quail appetizer for $12.99 and it came with a veggie skewer and four quail legs. The quail tasted good but was a little stringy on the ends so I found it easier to eat with a knife and fork. The veggie skewer included mushrooms which neither of us likes, so we focused on the zucchini, squash, tomatoes and onions. Overall a good appetizer, but I will be trying more of the menu on the next trip.My husband got the full rack of ribs with the intention of bringing left overs home. Since this was under the BBQ offerings it is served with a large portion of Cowboy Beans (spicy, which he liked) and Coleslaw for $17.99 but he also ordered a side of fries which turned out to be really delicious and flavorful steak fries for $1.50. I ordered the 8 oz filet, that is the smallest size they offer and they also carry ribeye, which comes with salad and a potato for $22.99. I got mashed potatoes because they told me they don't serve baked potatoes until 4pm which is when I assume the dinner menu starts. All of the meat was very good and I think this has to be their niche. My husband split up half his meal into a to go container and proceeded to enjoy his fall off the bone ribs, they really did fall off the bone, and that is how he likes it. My steak was very tender and was seasoned just enough. I wasn't as impressed with the sides as I was with the entrees. I didn't think anything tasted bad, I just thought they were okay. The mashed potatoes and coleslaw taste the same as you can get at a much cheaper place, but I did think the fries were good. My salad consisted of a lot of lettuce (which tasted fresh) with some croutons, a single onion and single tomato; it had way too much dressing on it, so next time I would request the dressing on the side so I could put it on myself. There were plenty of other side items that we didn't try and we plan on trying the baked potato and mac and cheese on a future visit. Besides, the protein should always be the star on the plate, as it's the main component of the dish, portion wise. Speaking of portion sizes, I thought the portions fit the prices nicely. It was more food than we could finish so I expect lunch specials are just right. They also include complimentary jalapeno cornbread which was moist and I liked that it wasn't spicy until you got to the obvious pieces of jalapeno, which is nice to a wimp like me who isn't good with spicy. Our server was very friendly and pointed out popular items and checked on us pretty often. The food delivery was a little slow but I think an appropriate amount of time for the crowd. Luckily the salad and app didn't take too long, we were starving when we arrived. I found the hostesses to be a little awkward, but had limited interaction. Overall, a good meal of comfort foods in a laid back, rustic atmosphere. The menu has a lot of great stand bys, and some things you can't get everywhere, and I look forward to coming back and trying some more! More...
This is the restaurant we always take our visitors to. It's so cute and homie inside-- a little kitschy in the best way.I've never had an issue with the waitstaff like some other reviews mentioned and I have been here at least 6 times. Sometimes there is a small wait but that's just part of life, people!I've had an issue with my food only once and it was rectified immediately and without attitude. They are super easy going about switching out sides with other side options on the menu as well.Overall I would say the service is great and the food is really good!Thankful for at least one good sit down place in our area of 380 More...
We stopped in this restaurant a few weeks ago after driving by. Being relatively unfamiliar with the restaurants in this area, it was a total guess and by a stroke of good luck we were rewarded. We were seated promptly in a lively but not overly rambunctious dining room. A lot of their food is entirely homemade - for example, the croutons are made at the restaurant, and it's that homestyle cooking and attention to details that makes Prairie House shine as a restaurant. The steaks were extremely flavorful and cooked according to our requests (medium). Portion sizes were good but not overwhelming, and the quality versus quantity approach was evident. Dessert menu featrured fried cheesecake -- every bit as good as it sounds. Thanks, Prairie House. No doubt we will return. More...
Eacellent food!!The banditos a must!Today's special chicken fried steak touchdown!Don't change a thing
I was brought to this restaurant while visiting my father in Aubrey and the breakfast was delicious. The staff was attentive, friendly and the food was brought out amazingly fast and hot. I definitely recommend Prairie House if you're looking for a good breakfast in the area. The grizzly bear inside was pretty cool as well as the old tractor out front. More...
Try to hit this place up once a month or so. I dig the food and the service. Last time we went Natalie was our server and she was upbeat and awesome! Fried green beans are legit here.
Gosh I LOOOOVE the food here! Everyone in my family is always trying to find an excuse to come eat here! Also the atmosphere is one for a true cowboy, the walls are covered in really cool southern style decor. I just love the banditos and I find myself craving them regularly. the chicken fried steak is amazing, but I recommend the chicken fried chicken. Also I have to say their ranch dressing blows any other ranch I've had in my life out of the water! My only qualm is that the service can be pretty slow sometimes but the food has always been worth the wait! More...
Always a great experience! Food and service are amazing! Love the atmosphere!
Came here on Monday to meet my dad for dinner, it had been years since we went last. The decor is rustic and has a nice ambiance. The staff was friendly. Service was a little slow, but the waitress got a few tables all at once and that's understandable. She was apologetic and had another server help her with our order since she was having to run around. My dad had the filet, husband had the smoked turkey, and I had the grilled shrimp. All three were good, but nothing mind blowing. I wish the shrimp came with a different sauce than cocktail sauce. I love cocktail sauce but that seems more appropriate for cold shrimp. Something bbq, garlic, or spicy to dip in would add a little flair that the dish needs. My husband and father both ordered sweet potatoes but they ran out and only one was available for the table. No big deal, they switched one out for a baked potato but it just seems strange they would run out at 7:30pm since it wasn't a real late dinner. Overall it was a nice experience and we will be back again. More...
What a great family owned restaurant with melt in your mouth ribs, succulent prime Ribbon. All the sides and fixings. Known for the banditos appetizer also try the fried green beans and onion rings. Ribeye steak and chopped sirloin was great as well. Brisket slow smoked and tasty. Will definitely be back More...
prairie house has some great food and nice atmisphere..great waitstaff and love their breakfast..they have outdoor seating which is really nice. my husband like the BBQ chicken which is really good. I didn't give 5 stars only because I think they bring even more home cooking to their menu. it's a great place to eat! More...
How have I not been here in the 10 plus years I have lived here? App combo was awesome and the ranch dressing should be served in a drinking glass. I had the grilled catfish and it was superb. Not fishy at all and seasoned to perfection, nice and moist and flaky. Also the bloody mary was extremely legit. I cannot wait to get back. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 strictly based on the fact that you can't serve bbq with other offerings. Good bbq takes focus. More...
Billed as a frontier cooking and bbq restaurant, I was thoroughly surprised by and enjoyed Prairie House's food. The kitchen knows how to cook a 16oz steak to temperature; our to-go ribeyes arrived home perfectly medium rare, so juicy and flavorful. The banditos were tasty morsels of sweet and spicy love. On another visit we got the same expertly grilled steaks and enjoyed them with burnt ends (though they were more brisket than burnt) plus crispy fried green beans. Harder to catch are their daily and weekend specials as we find they are often sold out before we can try them (like the prime rib). Less successful were side items like onion rings, jalapeno sticks, fries and vegetable skewers which, while finger-snackable, were pretty much standard fillers. Do make room for their desserts such as the cinnamon- and sugar-dusted fried cheesecake (enough to share with 4, unless you're greedy) and the sugar-coma inducing buttermilk pie.Their menu may be simple, but Prairie House gets the food right most times. Worth a try. More...
Great food! Good service that could be better at times. The ribeye, grilled trout, and brisket are a must try!! Beer is cold too!
Service was excellent, Hutch was the best!!! Food was good and not terribly over priced. I would have liked a little more sauce on the ribs but they were fall off the bone tender. Potato salad is homemade, brisket was excellent. Chicken portion for lunch was tiny we thought it was a wing at first not a breast and the Cole slaw was missing something. The kids smiley fries were adorable and tasty too. Highly recommend the atmosphere is awesome too! More...
This restaurant is 5 minutes from my house. The decor is awesome. This is the place where you should bring all your out of state, and out of the country friends and family. I had the $9.99 chicken fried chicken lunch special. It came with the gravy on the side, green beans, mashed potatoes, and a jalapeno cornbread muffin. The chicken was big, juicy, and crispy. The corn muffin was good. The green beans had no flavor though. They need to be seasoned and cooked in bacon. A good deal for $9.99 though. The service was good. The waitress was nice, and cute as a button. I took home some blackberry cobbler to have tonight. I've been there before and had a bison burger, sweet potato fries, banditos, and wagyu burger. it was all good. I still need to try their Friday and Saturday night prime rib special though. More...
My husband and I love this place, not only because it is close to home, but because they have fantastic food and great service. The staff throughout Prairie House are friendly and informative. This is important for me as I am sugar and gluten free. When asking dietary questions about the menu, everyone has always been very willing to assist. This is one of the few places I can get barbecue as they slow smoke everything without unnecessary seasonings containing sugar. We used Prairie House for Christmas catering last year, and the entire family raved about the food. Family favorites are definitely the Banditos and the Cowboy Beans. (I may have sneaked a jalapeno cornbread muffin once or twice!) All in all, I highly recommend Prairie House to anyone in the Aubrey area. More...
The food is what pushed it past three stars for us. The waitress was SO slow and I think we saw her a total of three times. We had empty glasses halfway through the meal that were never refilled. The check alone took ten minutes to get back. We had the ribs, sausage and bandidos. They all were tasty! We might go back, but never in a hurry. More...
Have eaten here several times, food is always good, service is great, never a long wait to be seated. Usually get the chicken fried chicken, it's one of the best I've had. Comes with a couple of sides, mashed potatoes and corn are both very good. Menu is home cooking traditional fare, very good variety.Always stop in when I'm up on the 380 corridor between Denton and McKinney. More...
First off I want to say I had an AMAZING experience today with my wife and family. We always hear about how great Prairie House is and so we decided to treat ourselves for Mother's Day. We were sat rather quickly even though there was a wait which was nice. Our service was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING as our server "Hutch" took care of us and even though we could see he was busy we never had to request a refill and he always had a smile and took the the time to make sure we were happy. We all ordered the special recommended by him and all four of our prime ribs were out of this world! I have taken my wife to many steakhouses and I can genuinely say this was the BEST prime rib I have ever had! Between the jalapeño cornbread and the sides I'd say we got our money's worth as well. To keep in theme with his 5 star service Hutch made sure we were satisfied with our meal and recommended the pecan cobbler for desert as it was a special cobbler of the day. My wife loved the cobbler and it was the perfect way to finish off an amazing meal. I am very impressed by Prairie House and the things our friends and family have told us about this place is 100% true. We will definitely be returning and if you have a chance to stop in I highly recommend requesting "Hutch" as your server and you won't be disappointed! Thanks for the amazing Mothers's Day experience Prairie House! More...

Impressive menu selection, flavorful food and a friendly staff add get 4 stars all day! Prime rib was average but the bandidos and a baker is the ticket! Chicken fried chicken is 2-lobe (had to be 9 or 10oz) & 2 meals! It's our go-to place when the work day is too much to cook. More...

Prairie House is a breath of fresh air, in this area. This is where you take your out of town guests, when you want an impressive meal in a traditional Texas atmosphere. The breakfast is especially tasty and they have good burnt ends! The lunch and dinner choices are creative and just as delicious. I know that Hwy 380 is growing in leaps and bounds, but Prairie House will remain one of my local favorites. More...

We came here for an early lunch and ended up being able to get breakfast as well. The chicken fried chicken was OUTSTANDING & my wife enjoyed the chicken fried steak as well. Priced accordingly to the amount of food they put on the plate. More...
My second visit to Prairie House. Pretty Sunday morning for a drive from McKinney to Crossroads. Went for breakfast around 10. Ordered a mimosa for $5.99 it was HUGE. Delish! We had omelettes and corn cake pancakes that were yummy. Had a great server, Dakota. We had a sticky ketchup bottled he brought us a new one right away and took the other one off of the table. Impressive. Food is good portions are huge to large. Homey, comfortable atmosphere and clean bathrooms. More...
CHicken fried rib eye, beans, and burnt ends are our favorites and never disappoint
I can't say enough good things about this place. Fantastic food, HUGE portions, friendly and fast service and the back room has so much character. Couple favorites of mine the ribs, the cowboy omelet, fried cheesecake...basically everything I've tried has been good. The only downfall is that I feel like a walrus walking out because I succumb to temptation and try to eat everything on my plate. Plus they do a really great military discount. More...
Great ribs and always a good time. I really love this place. Service is always friendly and with a smile. Top secret is get the Banditos. They are out of this world good.
Okay so maybe my rating is so high because I'm from Washington and we don't have very many good southern restaurants. This restaurant was absolutely amazing! All of the food we ate here were exactly what I think of when I think of food in Texas. We had a big group for a graduation party. I was impressed that we didn't have to wait very long on a Friday night, but we came before the mad rush. The decor in the lobby was a tad bit creepy lol... but hey, it's Texas. Most of our table ordered the chicken friend chicken or chicken fried steak. I ordered a 2 meat platter with ribs & brisket. The special was prime rib.... YUM. I had a bite of every single dish it... i'm drooling just thinking about it. I have never seen chicken friend steak so huge... We had so much leftovers that there was enough to feed everyone lunch the next day. The ribs were to die for... they feel off the bone and like melted in my mouth. Sigh, I wish I lived closer because it is what I am craving right now! More...
Prairie HOuse is great. The Banditos are the best around. I love that you serve them at breakfast now with hash browns. Fantastic. The service is slow and a bit neglectful but it hasn't stopped us from going. Love the food. More...
This is my go-to place when I don't feel like driving out to Frisco or Plano for a decent dinner. The quirky decor and stuffed bear and goats and deer, etc., lend a redneck country atmosphere and each booth has some kind of unique theme to it (my kids always want to sit at the Willie Nelson booth) and you almost feel like you are stepping back in time! It's always packed on weekends so get there early for the prime rib! The filet Mignon is surprisingly excellent and for $22 you get two sides. I highly recommend the grilled vegetable skewer and the green beans, or of course, a loaded baked potato! They have these deliciously naughty things called "Banditos" which are chicken and cheese stuffed jalapeño wrapped in bacon and served with ranch dressing on a bed of shoestring fries and jalapeño strips. The staff is always friendly and quick to fix any problems, and happy to make substitutions. The quality of the food is on par with many restaurants in Frisco and plano (and their steak is WAY better than at the snooty French restaurant "Mignon" in Plano - see my review on that horror of a restaurant to learn more ) My only complaints are that the steak knives are terrible, and so it makes it frustrating to try to cut into the ribeye steak, and padded chairs at all the tables and booths would be a plus. Overall, it's a great little local down home country restaurant that makes everyone feel welcome. I've never had a bad meal or poor service here, and I'm definitely a regular! More...
Traveling through we came across these Texas Style Restaurant. Great service, friend staff and great food. Recommend and will try to come back.
The Prairie House is in the regular restaurant rotation for us - been many times. They have great steaks at reasonable prices, good sides and many options for a group with varied tastes. It might not have many vegetarian options, I guess. Sometimes the service can miss a bit, but they're dutifully employing local young people, so that's good. They offer an excellent chicken fried steak, homemade ranch dressing on fresh salad, and the cowboy beans are a tasty fave. Don't miss the bandidos. It's family friendly, so even your toddler can go and get more awwws than ugggs. The Friday and Saturday night prime rib usually draws a crowd and runs out. Breakfast will satisfy the pancake lover and biscuits and gravy faithful alike. More...
Our wedding venue had Prairie House cater which we were just so excited about, but we had forgotten just how wonderful the food is! The BBQ was a huge hit with our guests and as a bride I can say I sat down and devoured my entire plate- brisket, chicken, coleslaw, beans, potato salad, & blackberry cobbler. We were all highly impressed! More...

You have to try the Bandidos Jalapeños and the Prime Rib... so good and friendly people.
There were a lot of cars in the parking lot so we thought there would be a long wait. It turns out we were seated right away.I ordered sliced beef, cowboy beans, and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes. His meal came with a salad. The salad looked fresh and he said it was good. While we waited for the main course our drinks were promptly refilled. That is always a good thing in my book.My beef was really good, but I would have liked more BBQ sauce. The mashed potatoes and gravy were nice and hot. This was my first time eating cowboy beans , so I was surprised at the kick of spices. Overall the food was good. My boyfriend said the chicken fried chicken was better then most places and he really liked it. We will come back. Good food and good service. More...
The food was great!! Every thing was prepared great!!! The only complaint I could have is the waiter seemed to have a lot on his mind that day which we all do at times. But other than that it was very good can't wait to go back and try their fish! More...
Not everything we ordered was worthy of 5 stars but the ribs, burnt brisket ends (appetizer) and cowboy beans are worthy of 10 stars so it evens out. The corn muffins, when fresh out of the oven are divine!! The mashed potatoes were real and delicious. My husband ordered the bandidos and loved them. I ordered the chicken fried rib eye, it was huge, as big as the plate. It was good but I wouldn't order it again. We ordered the Texas toothpicks, fried strips of onion and jalapeño. They were rather bland. I think they need to add salt to their batter. I really wanted to try the fried cheesecake but was so full I'll have to save it for next time. The service was good and the waiter was friendly. Well, we will definitely be back and I will order ribs, burnt ends, cowboy beans and cornbread!! More...
The decorations are cool. Old fashioned cowboy decorations. The food is not so bad. Service isn't so bad. I'd definitely come back.
I've been coming here since I was a little girl and the big stuffed bear behind the counter still had all its claws ;) lol. It's my #1 favorite place to eat in the area. I've never had anything I didn't like. Looking forward to many more years of dining here!! More...
My favorite BBQ to go!The beef brisket and ribs are hands down the best I've ever tasted! The bandidos are amazing! They're cheese stuffed jalepinos with chicken and then bacon wrapped around. They're fabulous dipped in ranch!Everything I've ordered on the menu has been nothing but excellent. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because the staff here aren't very friendly. We always get waitresses who seem like they couldn't crack a smile to save their life. One waitress was quite rude. If you can overlook that, the food is really awesome. More...
I went here the other day and It was OK. I ordered my favorite, the bison burger, and it was good. My parents ordered the Ribeye or something and they didn't care for theirs. They said the steak was too thin and over seasoned. My burger and fries were good, but I didn't want the cowboy beans with my meal. I asked them if they could substitute it for a dinner salad (like they used to do for an up charge), but now they no longer do substitutions. It kinda pissed me off because now I have to pay full price for a dinner salad and they still give me those disgusting beans! If I don't want them why still give it to me? It doesn't make sense. It just wastes food if you ask me. Oh well their loss, not mine. The service was good and the sweet tea was delicious like always. I'll still come here when I can :) More...
Awesome restaurant with great food great hospitality with a great owner he never hesitates to talk with any customer that has a question or concern this restaurant is very patriotic and takes care of military service members we need more businesses like prairie house in america who care about men and women who fight for this country thank you
Hands down the best ranch dressing available. Anywhere. And that's not the only good thing about even a side salad. Full of fresh veggies, cheese, and croutons. And GOOD lettuce. Chicken fried chicken is huge. Mashed potatoes and gravy are delicious. My husband says the beans are more spicy vegetable soup with beans than just beans. And they come with pico de gallo on top. He ordered a Bbq beef sandwich, which is good, but it's $6.99 for literally just the sand which. We didn't read the menu well and ended up spending $15 to get it with fries ($1.99), beans (1.99) and a side salad ($3.99). My chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans and a salad was the special and only cost $9.95. We will be back, but will order more carefully. More...
We had the bandidos as suggested and they were AMAZINGLY good! My husband had the Texas 2 step: sausage & burnt ends. Great tasting food! Great food, great service, reasonably priced.. I was a little disappointed that they ran out of ribs, and the waitress indicated they do that regularly. My husband and I LOVE Prairie House!! It is good country cooking and always tastes so fresh and delicious. We love it so much that we had them cater our wedding in October of this year and they did an EXCELLENT job!! Our guests were raving afterwards about how good the food was and they give you gigantic portions so we had plenty left over that we were able to eat the following week. The price was wonderful, especially for what you get. They arrived on time to our location and got right to work. Will keep them in mind for any future catering needs we may have. The chicken fried steak and brisket is my favorite meal there but all of it is delicious, we have never been disappointed. More...

Great service, great atmosphere, great breakfast. That being said, we went to dinner there tonight and got two burgers with sweet potato fries. Our waitress asked us how we wanted our burgers done and we replied medium well. Our burgers, unfortunately were VERY well done. They call them "the burgers". We agreed that it should have just been called "a burger". We were disappointed. Next time, if we want a burger we will stick with fast food (sadly better than theirs). The sweet potato fries were just ok too. Nothing to right home about. We will continue to go for breakfast, but not dinner. More...
I have been to this restaurant on numerous occaisons for breakfast only. The service is always great. The food is always delicious and the Bloody Mary's at 9AM are prefect!
My family goes here often (at least 1x/month) and we enjoy it. My favorite is the Saturday special - Chicken Fried Chicken. I don't know how they get them so big and thick and it not be pounded paper thin. I always have to take a to-go box and eat for lunch the next day. Get the gravy on the side so it won't make it mushy. Love the green beans with the bacon, too.The side salads are simple, which is what we like (not all the fancy lettuce), but the Ranch Dressing is heaven. Really. Yes the service can be slow. It's "Denton" and no where else seems to be that much faster so I am OK with it. We tried to sit outside one day, but it was too cold and windy. The staff did not seem put out at all that we asked to move inside. We can be a very indecisive group, but they totally understood and have always been very friendly. More...
It must have been a off night for the people that wrote the bad reviews, but our experience was great. The bandidos appetizers were wonderful, I could have those as a meal. My husband had the chicken fried steak, which he said was really good; I had a bbq plate and the ribs were falling off the bone, the burnt ends were great. My daughter, who is a really picky eater, ate every bit of her chicken strips. The service was great, very attentive, they were out of the vegetable of the day, so they brought my husband a vegie cabob - and it was the server's suggestion. Will definitely go back, it was worth the trip from Plano. People need to give it a try, want to go back for the prime rib dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. Yum!!!!! Now I see why the place is packed out everytime we drive by it. More...

I don't normally eat here because I don't find their lunch/dinner menu very appealing, but I went there the other morning for a quick breakfast and drink and I'm so happy I did. Prairie House brings back so many fond memories of time spent at the original location in old downtown Carrollton. I was reminiscing about PH to a friend, and he suggested we make the trek up to Crossroads and check out this one. So glad we did.I am perplexed as to the negative reviews as our experience was very good. Guess reviews are subjective, huh? It's all in the individual tastes & opinions. I am jumping in palate first with a 4 star experience!Love the funky, rustic, cowboy-ish feel of the decor. l felt like we were dining at "the ranch house". Antlers for chandeliers, wooden high back booths, all sorts of memorabilia; pics and beer signs covering the wooden planked walls. We should have worn our hats and cowboy boots :)As is our most usual custom, we saddled up to the bar and were very promptly greeted by our friendly cheerful server, Candace. She quickly delivered our wine and beer selections and gave us a moment to peruse the menu.We started with the Texas Toothpicks; breaded and fried jalapenos and onion rings. Ummm, oh so tasty and crispy, dipped into that delicious ranch dressing. All that was needed was a little salt. A very nice beginning.Okay, I know we are in a BBQ/steak kind of place, but in keeping with my many previous meals in Carrollton, just had to have the fried catfish. It was 3 plump pieces of perfectly seasoned and fried fish; add a few squeezes of lemon, slathered with the made in house tarter sauce, and I am in a food trance. I ordered as sides the cowboy beans and Cole slaw. The beans were smokey and just the right amount of thickness to the broth. Cole slaw was okay; I'm not a good judge of this salad, so take my comments with a grain of salt. Overall, thoroughly enjoyed my selection.Friend had the BBQ brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries. By the end of the meal with his plate completely cleaned, I'd say he too enjoyed his choice.Service by Candace was very attentive, checking on our need for libation refills, etc. She deserves 5 stars for sure.It was a most enjoyable afternoon, worth the 45 minute drive to experience something unique, away from the "big city", entering a different world. Sure was a lot of fun and look forward to returning. More...
The BBQ is as good as it gets! The ribs are a Must have, and don't forget to bring a jar of their sauce home for another day!
Excellent Just had the Steak - Sweet I love this place and so does my whole Family
I gave this restaurant five stars only for breakfast! There breakfast is awesome. We wasn't really big on lunch. Service is ok. Setting is average.
Ate here with my sweet gf on Valentine's evening. We arrived early, around 5:00. Busy, but service was friendly and efficient. I think I had the perfect meal, a large order of Bandidos followed by a nice salad, great filet and baked potato. Really, really great meal! Best meal I have had at a restaurant in a while! More...
Tasty and reasonable. Everything is good, some things are terrific - the bandidos!
Since we are always driving between Denton and McKinney, we have stopped here for dinner on numerous occasions. It is about in the middle. They have been around for awhile and the location seems to work for them.First of all, the atmosphere is totally rustic and it is a large place. It can and will handle a lot of people, particularly, on weekends.Secondly, the appetizers and food are good to excellent. We have been coming and will continue going here. Depending on the crowd, the service can be slow. I think that is something that is difficult to handle when the restaurant is popular. More...
My first time here. We went here on a Sunday for lunch - they were serving from either the lunch menu or the breakfast menu - I ordered the Cowboy breakfast with a 10 oz mesquite grilled steak, 2 eggs, hash browns and toast. Everything was fantastic! Perfectly cooked and delicious - and how do they do all that for just $10.95 . Oh, the Farmers Brothers coffee was also excellent. The others in our party also said their food was perfect. I will definitely be coming back! More...
Service is sometimes slow, and it can get a bit crowded, but that is just a sign that the food is good. The chicken fried steak is one of the best and it is huge. I have had the chicken fried rib-eye, it is alright, but can be a little fatty. I guess that should be expected of a rib-eye, but just doesn't seem as good battered. More...
The food at Prarie House is very good. It definitetly has improved in the past year. The service is fast and friendly. The steaks are very good. Their breakfast is recommended too. They also have great accomodations for small and large parties. Great atmosphere and location. More...
I have been out to the Prairie House many times. The food has always been great and I am always amazed at how friendly the staff is. We have always been received and treated like family and that has been every single time we have been there! I do hope you bring back the blues on Sundays. More...
This place rocked It was fantastic atmosphere and all around good food. We had excellent service (Katie) and she was very on top of the service provided. I ordered the texas 2 step (chicken ribs w/ 2 sides) it was awesome. I defiantly recommend this place to anyone thinking about some good down home bar-b-que and they definently took the time to put up a lot of very vintage cool antiques! Also.. check out the door wall! one thing though i would recommend, is let's have some background MUSIC! More...
We absolutely LOVE the Prairie House Restaurant! Food is always delicious and fresh and the service is spectacular! You have to try the pecan cobbler with ice cream!! Awesome!
Just moved to Crossroads a month ago and my wife and I knew we had to try this place, because it was always busy. Went there and I got the Buffalo Burger and fries, which was amazing. My wife got the chicken fried chicken, which was also really good. Great home-style cooking with a great atmosphere. Only place I know of in the Dallas area that serves 4 different kinds of Shiner Beer. This will definitely be a regular stop for us. Will recommend to everyone I know, see and meet. More...
Go every chance we get!!: We've always gotten excellent service & food. We plan our trips so that we can eat here every chance possible. We're usually pulling a horse trailer which we can park across the street if there's not room at the restaurant. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!! More...
Best BBQ in Denton County. Everything else is A-ok too. Good fodd and good service. We go there once a week if possible. Try the buffalo burger or the buffalo meetballs. More...
Discovered this place by accident. What a find! Good food, great service and friendly also. Oh yes, I will be back.
Great place for some ""home cookin""! Love the Bandidos (chicken, jalapeno, cheese, wrapped in bacon and grilled) YUMMY! My husband and I try to get there once a month! Even if you are just passing by on HWY 380 you have to stop in an try the great food! More...
My wife and I went to dinner at the Prairie House. We had the banditos for an appetizer. The flavor is outstanding. I could make a meal out these alone and be very satisfied. My wife had the Texas 2-step with chicken and brisket. She loved it. I went for the full rack of ribs. The meat just fell of the bones. We washed it all down with 2 different kinds of Shiner beer and then split a blackberry cobbler for desert. Can't wait to go back!!!! More...
Our favorite restaurant in the area! Everything we've ever tried has been excellent. The service is always great, prices are reasonable, you get a lot of food for your money! Very family friendly!
I had my wedding reception here. The food and service were amazing! We are having our 5th wedding anniversary celebration here as well! Thanks Prairie House :)
Luck of the draw - stopped one day, Never regretted it!
Food is always good, guy was nice and trying to accomodate us.
We have lived in area for 7+ years. We go here occasionally for home cooking, probably about 12-15 times total.
I hear about this place from happy friends. I had a happy and excellent dinner with pleasant wait staff. They also have a pleasant and good atmosphere and good coupons. I come in mostly every week.
This place is excellent, I drove by and also have heard about it from several roofers.
I live in the neighborhood, everything is always excellent!
Drove by years ago - glad we stopped.
We've been coming here for years. I have nothing to improve about this place. Always Excellent!
Just driving by the place you can smell the wood burning and the food, makes one salivate for some Country Cook'n. This is a great place to have lunch or dinner with your family and friends. I usually order the Country Fried Steak and mashed potatoes and gravy, not bad at all! I wouldn't say it has that ""Home Made"" quality because I basically grew up with country cooking. It has that ""small country diner"" appeal I guess I could say. More...
Excellent, regular customer. Don't change a thing.
takes for ever on the weekend to get seated....they have a lot of younger staff that seem to rather fool around than help.great food!love the
Decent food, we came in the middle of a shift change so the order got botched a bit. (Mostly just things getting forgotten) Atmosphere is fun, agree with someone else that it was COLD in the restaurant.
This place is great for sitting outside with kids. The food is enjoyable as well and I've always had good service.
I had a great experience at this restaurant. The food is very good, I'd give it 3.5 stars; and remember, I'm giving it merit based on what they do and not comapring it to Three Forks, Truluck's or even my favorite Thai place. The 4 stars are because of the greet service and fiun we had. This is a very casual and family oriented restaurant. The night started well when I tried ordering a bottle of wine for our birthday party and they were out of the bottle I wanted. The owner came up and spent some time with us and then offered the next step up at the price of the bottle I originally wanted, thus making the best of the situation. I ordered the boss filet and I like mine almost raw. I was amazed that it was still nice and smokey after being on the grill for such a short period of time. It was very nice. We had a big party (10+) and everyone liked what they ordered from prime rib to catfish, fried mushrooms and fried pickle spears. The service was prompt enough. It was packed and if you are in a big hurry this may not be the time to go, but if you are up for spending time with your family and enjoying a nice meal, I higjhly recommend it. More...
Best BBQ in north Texas. I have been going to the Prairie House for 15 years. The food has always been good. Service can be slow, but always worth the wait. Half pound ribeye on Wednesday for 9.95 is hard to beat! More...
I haven't been here in a while but I just read a bad review and was taken aback! I needed to add my 2 cents. I can not speak to the BBQ because I never bothered with it. What I can say is SMOKED PRIME RIB. They only have it Friday and Saturday evenings but it is so very delicious. I don't think I've seen smoked prime rib anywhere else. They do sell out sometimes if you go later in the evening; whenever that happened my heart dropped and I may have weeped a little bit. I do resent that there is a smaller "Cowgirl Cut" for teh delicate ladies but I always go "Cowboy Cut" cos I can handle alot of of meat. The horseradish sauce is good too but I think you have to request it. The bison burger I had a couple times was okay but dry (as exotic burgers tend to be) and the fried jalapeno and onion strings ("Texas Toothpicks") are always tasty with their homemade ranch. It's a little bit of a haul from Denton but I always thought it was more than worth it for that prime rib and all its smoky goodness. More...
The Prairie House is AWESOME!!! I love all their food from their BBQ to their homeade Ranch and Chicken Fried Chicken. Definantly a place to eat. A great family place, definantly not a romantic date place. They also have an outside area where you can listen to music and dine or just have a few drinks with friends. You have to go!! More...
I recently enjoyed my dinner out with my girlfriend at Prairie House. Just right through the door, we were welcomed with big smiles and that continued through out our dinner. Very reasonably priced and large portions! Unique food like the buffal burger (which I got and really liked) and good ole country cooking, like chicken fried chicken. friendly atmosphere and good food. i think we'll make Prairie House our spot! The prairie house is AMAZING!!! The food is very good! IF you have grown up anywhere in the south you will know what real country cooking is.. As far as the "grease" comment some have made.. well, I find it hard to believe that grilled cheese sandwiches could be greasy.. However, that's just me. My experience has always been pleasant, The Chicken fried steak is ALWAYS crispy on the outside and nice and juicy on the inside. The steaks are always cooked to your specifications, and they have a wide variety of sides to choose from, The wait staff is GREAT about substituting anything for anything. The fact a restaurant gets busy and does not meet your needs upon visiting one time, well I don't have a problem with that.. lol more good southern cooking and hospitality for myself to enjoy! My family & I have been to The Prairie House numerous times. Sometimes during the week when they have not been so busy and some at night or a weekend when they are busy. The food is good with a large selection to choose from. You can have fried catfish, chicken fried steak, a burger, or whatever. I have never ordered out from them but if I did, I would check my food when I picked it up just like any other restaurant before I left & went home. Too many placed make mistakes and it's generally not the person who took the order, but the person who put it in the box. The staff in the front cannot help a lot of what the staff in the back does. If the problem continues, bring it to the attention of the management. More...
I went down to Crossroads, TX and fell down on my knees because of the amount of food served to me at the Prairie House restaurant. If you happen to come here, the Texas 3 step might be the way to go. You get your choice of 3 of the following: Brisket, Chicken, Sausage or Ribs. I went with the Brisket, Sausage and Ribs. That comes with a side of Cole Slaw and Cowboy Beans. All for the darn good price of $12.95. Look at the pic I took of it. It is a very good sized portion. I did finish it.One star gets knocked off because my dad ordered a steak that he said was just Ok. I didn't eat it so I'll stand by my 4 star rating. This is, if I can stand at all. I have fallen on my knees. More...
I love their baby back ribs, they fall off the bone. The only slight complaint I have is the service being a little slow. Food comes out speedy but they tend not to come back to check on you. As far as the price, I think it's as reasonable as you can get for the location and quality. More...
After helping a friend paint her apartment, we headed over to Prairie House for dinner, and to watch her friend's band play a set on the outdoor stage. It was the perfect evening for it, warm and summery, but not hot and muggy. We all ended up sharing our food, and every single thing I had was delicious, from the sweet iced tea to the barbecue platter. I was told that they make their ranch dressing and barbecue sauce from scratch, and it showed - or tasted, rather. I'm normally not a big fan of ranch dressing, but I couldn't help dipping the fried pickles and onions into it!I wish it wasn't so far away from where I live, or else I'd be there a lot more often. Reasonable prices for delicious homestyle food? I'll take that any day. More...
I absolutely love this place! Their food is so delicious. Their service isn't the best at times, I think management is a little too relaxed and teenage servers aren't the most considerate employees at times. But I love the food and the atmosphere is great. I would highly recommend this place! More...
Probably the best food along the 380 corridor. Homestyle food done correctly. Great ambiance, feels country. Portions are adequate, the waitstaff is cordial, and the prices aren't outrageous like many of the restaurants down Highway 380. Also, be sure and check the outdoor stage for some great free country music while you sip a beer or have some of their excellent pork chops! Well recommended! More...
wide variety of choices on menu, including lots of options for kids; western country decor, live music on the weekends; barbecue and chicken fried steak are among the favorites; moderate prices, large servings make for a good value More...
The Prairie house is a great place to dine. They have old west decor starting with the big stuffed bear as you come into the lobby. They have a great menu chicken fried ribeye to prime rib dinners. My daughters favorite is something with a baked potatoe. When you get a baked potatoe they bring out bowls of bacon, cheese and sour cream. The employess are always friendly. Their prices have seemed to go up from when they were down the road in the smaller restaurant. Even the prices have gone up this place is worth the price, wait or drive. So try it out!PROS: Potatoe toppings
Very unique setting with classic old west decor. Food a bit pricey but worth it. From chicken fried steak to buffalo diners have several choices. The waitstaff is friendly and management is always willing to please.
Set just off of 380 between Aubrey and Crossroads this resturant has been a part of the area for 10+ yrs,
Worth the drive and the time to dine at the Prairie House.
Great for events and parties also. More...
