Q&As

What I love the most about my job is getting to the point where my client(s) no longer need my help. Where everything clicks into place and seeds for self empowerment and personal growth take root and flourish.

Honestly, I have no clue on why I decided to be a counselor. If I were to pinpoint one answer it would be that it is God’s will. I know I like helping people, and this line of work is a great avenue to touch other people lives in a very profound way. I am doing what I am doing because I believe God created me to do this specific task and gave me inherit gifts (i.e., patience, wisdom, warm, great listener, etc.) to bring peace into other people lives.

Practical Choices and Healthy Change Therapy is a counseling service owned and operated by yours truly. I seek to guide and facilitate change in the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of my clients as a way to tackle their experienced challenges and improve their overall well-being.

Services

It is important to know that you can connect with your therapist as well as be fully informed about services provided before deciding to begin treatment. In this 30-minute session we will discuss your needs, issues, and some possible goals; while reviewing several methods that I can use to assist you in determining and/or reaching those goals.

Client(s) complete a biopsychosocial assessment during their intake appointment. This assessment last approximately 90-minutes during which I will be asking questions that focuses on different aspects of your life. These areas include but are not limited to person's identifying information, personal/family history, marital/relationship history, history with addiction, education/work history, history of mental health treatment, legal history, medical history, and mental status. This assessment is beneficial because it posits that separate issues are often related. For instance, the course of a physical illness could influence social interactions or psychological functions, or a social and family background might have an impact on a biological or psychological problem. This allows us to create a holistic approach to treatment.

Individual counseling is a form of therapy in which the client is treated on a one-on-one basis with a therapist. The therapy process itself last approximately 60-minutes, and may take many forms, depending on the issues needed to be addressed and how far the client wishes to go in dealing with them. Therapeutic treatment is guided by a treatment plan that the client and I both agree to pursue. In our sessions the client and I will work together to help bring change in thoughts, feelings and behaviors that are interfering with their being able to live a fulfilling life.

Client(s) will be will be asked during their initial individual session to complete various other smaller questionnaires based on the information obtained during the biopsychosocial assessment. Depending on the assessment, the information obtain will provide clarification and/or better understanding of the client and will be used later to track personal growth and improvement.
Treatment specialization include:

Alcohol and Substance Abuse (Aftercare)
Addiction
Anger Management and Conflict Resolution
Marriage/Couples Counseling
Clinical Hypnotherapy
Stress and Time Management
Therapy for Anxiety and Depression

Clinical hypnotherapy is a type of complementary and alternative treatment in which the mind is used to help with a variety of problems, such as breaking bad habits or coping with stress.

Clinical Hypnotherapy lasts 45-minutes; and uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness that is sometimes called a trance. The person's attention is so focused while in this state that anything going on around the person is temporarily blocked out or ignored. In this naturally occurring state, a person may focus his or her attention -- with the help of a trained therapist -- on specific thoughts or tasks.

Hypnotherapy is usually considered an aid to psychotherapy (counseling or therapy), because the hypnotic state allows people to explore painful thoughts, feelings, and memories they might have hidden from their conscious minds. In addition, hypnosis enables people to perceive some things differently, such as blocking an awareness of pain.

Using screening tools provided by the Alabama Department of Mental Health, together we will collect information on substance abuse history in order to determine a suitable level care that will meet your needs in overcoming addiction.

This service last approximately 120-minutes and incude the folloing assessment:

Uncope Screening
