Brian Powell and his staff provide excellent service and care. As a pastor I work with many different funeral directors, and Powell's exceeds them all. I cannot imagine a more caring, competent, and kind experience. We are so grateful. More...

I cannot begin to express how amazing Brian and his son were during the whole experience after my mother's death. It's already such a horrible time, but Brian made it so much easier by taking care of everything, from the cremation to the restaurant reception. He was so sympathetic and considerate and respectful. He made himself available 24/7 and really helped my family and me through the difficult time. He went above and beyond to take care of every detail so that we could give my mom the most beautiful day to honor her life. I am eternally grateful to them for all their help and kindness. More...

Brian Powell handled the disposition of my parents' remains in a caring and dignified manner. He has been in the funeral profession for many, many years, working for and with the late Leon Elliston, whom my father trusted as a friend and fellow Knight of Columbus. To sum it up: Integrity. I am certain his son will follow Brian's example for another generation of top notch service. More...

Brian cared for our family in the most professional manner when we suddenly lost our brother last November.  He helped us navigate things like dealing with the cemetery, coached us on writing the obituary (which was complicated), and stood by our side throughout the entire ordeal. He took charge of the cremation, which was done in another state, making the rules and regulations overwhelming.  He helped us choose an urn, guided us through the process of choosing a headstone and made sure we had exactly what we needed for a wonderful Celebration of Life service for our brother. He was with us the day of the memorial all they way through the graveside service. I cannot thank Brian and his associates enough for the caring and dignified way they handled my brother's service and recommend them wholeheartedly. They are true professionals. More...

Brian Powell personally handled all of the details of the funeral and cremation for our dear friend. A nicer and more polite person you will not find. All of the arrangements were handled so well and at a very reasonable cost. Much less than every other funeral home we contacted.
We would recommend anyone to use Powell Funeral Directors. Very professional.

Brian has now handled the funeral arrangements for two close family members. In 2010, our family selected him for my mother's funeral. At that time he was the director for another area funeral home. Although I'm typically pretty organized, putting together a funeral when you are distraught can make details feel overwhelming. Thank goodness for Brian who stepped in and with great thoughtfulness and professionalism helped me navigate thru the process. He acted as liason with the church, ministers, cemetery, caterers, florists, newspapers (obits), death certificates, etc., and during the actual funeral day kept things running smoothly and on time (something you can hardly think about when you are in the middle of that situation). After the funeral he would occasionally stop and visit my elderly father who was very touched that Brian would check-in on him.So just a few months ago when my father passed away, there was no question in my mind who I wanted to handle the service. I was glad to discover he had become an independent funeral director (not tied to the previous funeral home we'd used as I was planning a church service) which allows him a lot of flexibility to organize any kind of service at nearly any location you want. However, after expressing some hesitation about the church, and telling him that I really wanted something that felt warmer and cozier (it was a winter funeral) Brian suggested I tour Adolf Funeral Home (Brian contracts use of their facility). The location was beautiful and exactly what I was looking for.Brian was extremely accommodating of a lot of small demands - everything from re-arranging the room to meet our needs, to bringing in additional furniture, to assisting with both live and recorded music, and juggling some last minute changes. Most importantly, he knew my father was a Navy veteran, and made all of the arrangements for my father to have a military burial. He knew exactly what papers I needed, and when I could not find those, took other papers we had and made multiple phone calls to just the right people to allow the military burial to still take place. When I was struggling with the right clothes to bury my father in, he and I talked thru ideas and he helped me make the final choices, as well as preparing the body, and allowing me to have final private time alone with my dad. When I was wavering on the florist he made a suggestion for another he thought would suit me better that turned out to be more than perfect (even the pastor who had done hundreds of funerals said they were the most beautiful flowers he'd ever seen. I couldn't have been happier with his suggestion!) Brian also intervened when issues arose with the cemetery, saving me a lot of grief and frustration. He also made great suggestions for caterers and restaurants for the viewing and dinner afterwards that were great. Brian is a very kind, gracious, unassuming, and humble soul, just the sort of trustworthy support you need during a time when you feel fragile and disjointed. The best thing about working with Brian is that he constantly watches the "bottom line" for you (something extremely rare in this business. Other funeral homes I contacted made me feel as if they couldn't wait to sell me another service or "upgrade" something for me. Brian was the opposite which was greatly appreciated). He was available by phone 24/7, and stayed on top of everything, making sure everything that needed to get done was accomplished. On the day of the funeral he greeted all my guests, helped with coats, flowers, candles, cars, and arranged a beautiful procession to the cemetery. I highly recommend his services. More...
